It is with heavy hearts and a great sense of sorrow that we are announcing the closing of our store due to sudden and unexpected circumstances. Join Furnace Creek Forge one last time at our store this Saturday, November 25th from 10-6 as we kick-off our store closing event and our last holiday hours. Starting November 25th, the store will be open Wednesday thru Saturday 10-6 and all other times by appointment. The doors to the store will close for the last time on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 2pm. We don't know what the future holds for all of us yet, but our website and social media accounts will remain active and updates will be posted there as we move forward into the next chapter's of our lives. We can't wait to see you all for one more holiday season.

Us Pennsylvania Dutch have a plethora of superstitions about the month of May. This month held many positive and negative intonations. It's a common held belief that collecting the first rain of May and washing your hair with this water would make your hair grow extremely fast and long. There's an entire ritual concerning the morning dew on May 1st, see my last post The month of May was considered an unlucky month particularly for getting married. "Marry in May and you'll rue the day" "Maid or widow married this month must expect ill luck" ~Being born in May was thought to produce a sickly child. ~Never buy a broom in May "Buy a broom in the month of May, sweep a family member away" ~Never wash blankets in May. "Wash a blanket in May, wash a dear one away" ~Cats born in May will bring snakes into the home. ~Taking baths in May is considered unlucky and even thought to bring death to the home. "Those who bathe in May will soon be laid in clay" ~ Any Hares (rabbits) seen on May morning are witches in disguise #primitiverootsconjure #primitiveroots #padutch #pennsylvaniadutch #pagerman #pennsylvaniagermans #pennsylvaniawitches #powwow #powwower #hexerei #fraktur #frakturart #roots #appalachianfolkmagic #appalachiantraditions #appalachianwitch #mountainwitch #traditions #yayinikki #munumidnight https://www.instagram.com/p/COTpsXVH3vn/?igshid=7is51nla754x

Subreddits can be a great way of exchanging useful resources, methods, and ask questions about the language you’re learning. But not everyone knows how to easily find one dedicated to their target language/s. So I’ve created a directory of all the ones I could find under this read more.
Note: Whilst there are country-specific subreddits for a lot of these languages, unless they explicitly mentioned accepting language questions I left it out. I also used a subreddit’s list of languages, so please excuse any weird ordering.
If you have an active subreddit dedicated to learning a language/linguistics/translations please let me know and I’ll add it. This includes conlangs! If you think I’ve left out an active subreddit please let me know and I’ll add it!

What would the ship name be?
Charlotte Page and Max Thunderman.
You ain't gotta ship it. I just want the name. I feel like I used "Thunderpage" previously, but idk. Charx is kinda pleasing 🤔. Charlax 😬 Pagerman 😂 Maxlotte 😕 Give suggestions please.
Not saying that I'm moving forward with my idea, but my idea does keep bothering me.

My mom used to have my brothers and I repeat to her this Pennsylvania German rhyme when we were little:
Mammi, Daddi Butterbrot
Schlack die Katz im Keller dod
Heng sie uff un zieg sie ab,
Sel gebt on gooty Winder Kapp (or Un mach en guder Schrtripperkapp).
My PA German is extremely rusty nowadays and I only really understand when I’m being scolded. So of course I’ve forgotten what the translation was. So I asked my mom and great aunt. What they told me makes me wonder why the hell they taught my brother’s and I this:
Mommy, Daddy butter-bread,
Strike dead the cat in the cellar,
Hang her up and skin her,
And make a good winter cap (or And make a good stripper cap).
How is this for children???? Oh well, I’ll probably teach this to my kids too.
P.S. There are a few different ways to say this rhyme but this is how my family says it.
