Let’s talk Paige for a second. Cause’ man oh man is she a doozy of a character concept.

Because if Beck sparks discussion about fighting for free will in a system that demands conformity then Paige is a crazy crazy occurrence.

She’s a medic! Her whole job is to heal people! And she does the exact opposite! So how come she isn’t just tolerated, but celebrated in CLU’s regime?

Answer: because it’s not conformity they want. At least not quite. It’s obedience. Abide by your function. But if you’re willing to kill for us then function be damned. If you’re willing to blindly obey orders then who cares what you were made to do.

Paige could have been a security monitor. But no, she was a medic.

Arguably the least likely candidate for becoming someone who’s job description is ‘kill anyone that gets in the way’. And yet she is and she does.

I think it’s an awesome exploration of the idea that no one is immune to radicalism. No matter how benign you start out. How pure in intention. Oligarchies can twist anything and anyone to their purpose and suddenly someone who set out to heal and to help can have a graveyards worth of death on their hands and oppression of the ones they swore to heal on their resume.

And like! You can still see some of the qualities that made her a medic in the truest sense. She’s just so goddamn genuine and oddly trusting . She’s creative and a problem solver. Whenever there’s a crisis she doesn’t hesitate she just acts. She THINKS she’s doing the right thing even as she sentences programs to death by gladiatorial arena.

It’s wild is what I’m saying.

Half-joking, half-serious headcanon idea: Paige is actually neither a security Program or a medical Program. She has forgotten it for some reason, but she was originally created by Flynn to be the software that can send a signal from the Grid to a pager (he thought he was being clever by naming her "Paige").

The final season of Tron Uprising would have been about Paige and Beck going on an epic journey to the I/O Tower, so she could send the call for help to Alan's pager, thus setting in motion the events of Legacy.
