Obsessed with your blog… Could you review Francis Bacon’s Painting 1946? Seems up your alley
I love you for this.
I love love love Francis Bacon's works. They're so upsetting oftentimes. This one specifically invokes a similar feeling as Saturn Devouring His Son for me. It's so horrific to look at that it tugs at my chest and makes me feel sick. I didn't explain this much in my original review of Saturn, but so much of what appeals to me about it is the strong emotions it makes me feel. It's so visceral I just have to jack it to work through my emotions, this one is similar.
I love the seeming butcher's floor in the background, the grotesqueness of the surroundings. The painting is seeped in death, in mutilation. The opened pig(?) carcass, the man with only half a head.
There's just something about a good decapitation, some mutilation of the body that, artistically, gets me going. It really tugs at something primal and visceral for me.
Overall, while this review is pretty short compared to some, it's because it's such a knockout 10/10.
