Well guys & gals & non-binary pals - it's here. Another installment of That '70s Show original scripts! This week features S6xE20 Squeezebox.
Not a ton of changes from script to episode in this case, but as always, read on for my dutiful summary! (FYI the cast signatures are a re-print - though still cool!) I absolutely love reading through these and noting the different lines - I hope you all enjoy learning these details as much as I do! 😊
Tumblr media
First up: confirmation that the Slurpee Slut's name is Chloe, for the record. It was never mentioned in the episode, though she was listed this way in the credits.
Tumblr media
The first (small) change is Eric's additional line when Donna asks about Chloe/Slurpee Slut in the opening scene: "They're all crazy in that business, it's all that slurping." 🤣
Tumblr media
Next we have an extra dose of "LOL Kitty is an alcoholic!"... sadly a theme this episode.
Tumblr media
There was a longer exchange between Bob/Kitty/Red re: Bob 'welcoming Pam to the house'.
Tumblr media
This extended interaction between Eric and Mitch. Apparently photon torpedos are from Star Trek, not Star Wars.
Also - Mitch bables about disco (??) and Kelso doubles down on his burn after learning what braille is. 🙄
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hyde and Red's scenes in the Toyota discussing the Pam situation were pretty much word-for-word, except for this added line from Hyde: "But it's like she's teasing us. It's haunting me, like a sexy, topless ghost."
Tumblr media
This cut Eric/Jackie friendship moment 😩. Well, kinda. *lol*
Tumblr media
More *lolz, alcoholism!* jokes. Kitty's not interested in the cake Pam brings until she learns it's a rum cake.
Tumblr media
This is after its revealed that the guys saw Pam's breasts and Red asks Kitty what she expected him to do: rip the eyes from his head? She says yes, *lol*
Pam's story is slightly different, too. In the episode she says, "This isn't the first time my body has caused a fight. One time I caused a riot on a topless beach in Venezuela. Imagine what you saw, only all tanned and oiled."
Tumblr media
In the episode, the scene ends after the guys walk out. In the script, Kitty and Jackie have the following exchange afterwards:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kitty feeling jealous of Pamela winning her teen son's friends' affection -> 😵‍💫
Next up, Mitch originally tells Donna that not only does he think Eric and Chloe had sex, but that they probably had sex on Donna's bed while laughing at her (🙄)
Tumblr media
In the final basement scene, Eric is less offended by Kelso's burn about him and more intrigued by the thought of Donna and Pam hooking up. 😂
Tumblr media
I liked Eric's addition here about the time Donna had mono.
Tumblr media
Their final exchange where they make-up is also slightly different from the episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's all she wrote!
Thanks for reading along with me, your host, @thatseventiesbitch!
Other Scripts I've Posted:
S2xE20 "Kiss of Death" S2xE22 "Jackie Moves On" S2xE23 "Holy Crap!" S2xE26 "Moon Over Point Place" S5xE21 "Trampled Under Foot" S7xE8 "Angie"

B-10 : Oscar 2024 Predictions - A Film Fan's Perspective
Tumblr media
The 96th Academy Awards, a.k.a. The Oscars®, are set to happen on March 11 at 4:30 AM IST. The celebrations of the Oscar season are at their full peak. Amid the fun and excitement - and less than 24 hours for the ceremony to start, here's a look at the movie categories and our predictions of the winners. These are predictions based on the trends, previous award ceremonies this year (like Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics Choice, and SAG), and the winners - along with my perspective. So sit back and stay with me till the end:-
P.S. SPOILER ALERT!!!!
Best Picture
Nominees:
American Fiction – Ben LeClair, Nikos Karamigios, Cord Jefferson, and Jermaine Johnson, producers
Anatomy of a Fall – Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion, producers
Barbie – David Heyman, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner, producers
The Holdovers – Mark Johnson, producer
Killers of the Flower Moon – Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Martin Scorsese, and Daniel Lupi, producers
Maestro – Bradley Cooper, Steven Spielberg, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, and Kristie Macosko Krieger, producers
Oppenheimer – Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, and Christopher Nolan, producers
Past Lives – David Hinojosa, Christine Vachon, and Pamela Koffler, producers
Poor Things – Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Emma Stone, producers
The Zone of Interest– James Wilson, producer
Tumblr media
Prediction: Oppenheimer
It's highly doubtful that the Academy would not give the highest honor to Nolan's cinematic masterpiece of the year. Not doing so would lead to havoc.
Best Director
Nominees:
Justine Triet – Anatomy of a Fall
Martin Scorsese – Killers of the Flower Moon
Christopher Nolan – Oppenheimer
Yorgos Lanthimos – Poor Things
Jonathan Glazer – The Zone of Interest
Tumblr media
Prediction: Christopher Nolan
Nolan has given the ultimate blockbuster of the year - a period film with intense acting and technical excellence. It's time to make up for the snubs of the past.
Best Actor
Nominees:
Bradley Cooper – Maestro as Leonard Bernstein
Colman Domingo – Rustin as Bayard Rustin
Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers as Paul Hunham
Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer as J. Robert Oppenheimer
Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction as Thelonious "Monk" Ellison
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Cillian Murphy
With his wins at the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and the SAG, it's time for the Irishman to get the golden man for his first role as a leading man in a Nolan (after playing supporting or character roles in movies like The Dark Night Trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk).
Best Actress
Nominees:
Annette Bening – Nyad as Diana Nyad
Lily Gladstone – Killers of the Flower Moon as Mollie Burkhart
Sandra Hüller – Anatomy of a Fall as Sandra Voyter
Carey Mulligan – Maestro as Felicia Montealegre
Emma Stone – Poor Things as Bella Baxter
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Emma Stone/Lily Gladstone/Sandra Hüller
The competition for best actress is intense - as Gladstone has showcased her method acting (which might make her the first Native American to win the trophy). Meanwhile, Stone's feminist portrayal of a woman on her purpose to stand for equality and liberation seems Oscar-worthy (with her acting wins this year). Hüller, on the other hand, has given a breathtaking performance in the trilingual thriller.
Best Supporting Actor
Nominees:
Sterling K. Brown – American Fiction as Clifford "Cliff" Ellison
Robert De Niro – Killers of the Flower Moon as William King Hale
Robert Downey Jr. – Oppenheimer as Lewis Strauss
Ryan Gosling – Barbie as Ken
Mark Ruffalo – Poor Things as Duncan Wedderburn
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Robert Downey Jr
RDJ might be memorable for Tony Stark/Iron Man. However, it's his portrayal of Strauss that's going to win this year. With two previous nominations (including one for portraying Charlie Chaplin), RDJ would likely be the first Marvel hero to win the Golden Man. He would also repeat the feat of Actor-Supporting Actor wins for the same film - after 1959's Ben Hur (Charlton Heston - Charles Laughton), 2003's Mystic River (Sean Penn - Tim Robbins), and 2013's Dallas Buyers Club (Matthew McCoughnahey - Jared Leto).
Best Supporting Actress
Nominees:
Emily Blunt – Oppenheimer as Kitty Oppenheimer
Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple as Sofia
America Ferrera – Barbie as Gloria
Jodie Foster – Nyad as Bonnie Stoll
Da'Vine Joy Randolph – The Holdovers as Mary Lamb
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Da'Vine Joy Randolph
Randolph's portrayal of a grieving mother stuck in a boarding school during the holiday season involves her comedic timing and emotional depth.
Best Original Screenplay
Nominees:
Anatomy of a Fall – Justine Triet and Arthur Harari
The Holdovers – David Hemingson
Maestro – Bradley Cooper and Josh Singer
May December – Screenplay by Samy Burch; Story by Samy Burch and Alex Mechanik
Past Lives – Celine Song
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Anatomy of A Fall/The Holdovers
While the former is this year's Palme d'Or winner and Golden Globe-winning screenplay, the latter is what would become a holiday classic. It's going to be a tough contest between the two films.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Nominees:
American Fiction – Cord Jefferson; based on the novel Erasure by Percival Everett
Barbie – Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach; based on characters created by Ruth Handler
Oppenheimer – Christopher Nolan; based on the biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin
Poor Things – Tony McNamara; based on the novel by Alasdair Gray
The Zone of Interest – Jonathan Glazer; based on the novel by Martin Amis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Oppenheimer/American Fiction
The former might be possible with the guaranteed Best Picture & Director awards - which could make Nolan another director to win writing, directing, and producing Oscars. However, the latter would pose a tough competition - as it has already won the Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award, the Critics Choice Award, and several other precursor accolades. Its poignant exploration of race, family, and the American dream resonates with critics and audiences.
Best Animated Feature
Nominees:
The Boy and the Heron – Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki
Elemental – Peter Sohn and Denise Ream
Nimona – Nick Bruno, Troy Quane, Karen Ryan, and Julie Zackary
Robot Dreams – Pablo Berger, Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé, and Sandra Tapia Díaz
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse/The Boy and the Heron
It'll be Marvel's turn to preside over this category - with its innovative animation style, captivating story, and emotional connection. However, the Golden Globe-winning Japanese anime with a timeless tale of loss and resilience is a strong contender for the American animated film.
Best International Feature Film
Nominees:
Io capitano (Italy) – directed by Matteo Garrone
Perfect Days (Japan) – directed by Wim Wenders
Society of the Snow (Spain) – directed by J. A. Bayona
The Teachers' Lounge (Germany) – directed by İlker Çatak
The Zone of Interest (United Kingdom) – directed by Jonathan Glazer
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): The Zone of Interest
The Grand Prix-winning tale of a Nazi leader's family living next to Auschwitz is a tale that will send chills down the spine.
Best Documentary Feature Film
Nominees:
Bobi Wine: The People's President – Moses Bwayo, Christopher Sharp, and John Battsek
The Eternal Memory – Maite Alberdi
Four Daughters – Kaouther Ben Hania and Nadim Cheikhrouha
To Kill a Tiger – Nisha Pahuja, Cornelia Principe, and David Oppenheim
20 Days in Mariupol – Mstyslav Chernov, Michelle Mizner, and Raney Aronson-Rath
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): 20 Days in Mariupol
A tale about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 20 Days in Mariupol has won several documentary awards at multiple film festivals and award ceremonies. If it wins, it would be another film about the dark side of Russia to win the Oscar.
Best Documentary Short Film
Nominees:
The ABCs of Book Banning – Sheila Nevins and Trish Adlesic
The Barber of Little Rock – John Hoffman and Christine Turner
Island in Between – S. Leo Chiang and Jean Tsien
The Last Repair Shop – Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers
Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó – Sean Wang and Sam Davis
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): The Last Repair Shop
Showing Los Angeles as one of the few United States cities to offer and fix musical instruments for its public school students at no cost, it might win the Oscar - as it has previously won the Critics Choice Documentary Award for the same category.
Best Live Action Short Film
Nominees:
The After – Misan Harriman and Nicky Bentham
Invincible – Vincent René-Lortie and Samuel Caron
Knight of Fortune – Lasse Lyskjær Noer and Christian Norlyk
Red, White and Blue – Nazrin Choudhury and Sara McFarlane
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar – Wes Anderson and Steven Rales
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
I guess it's time for Anderson to win his Oscar now - with his colors, symmetry, and star cast.
Best Animated Short Film
Nominees:
Letter to a Pig – Tal Kantor and Amit R. Gicelter
Ninety-Five Senses – Jared and Jerusha Hess
Our Uniform – Yegane Moghaddam
Pachyderme – Stéphanie Clément and Marc Rius
War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko – Dave Mullins and Brad Booker
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko
Inspired by and featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono's peace anthem "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," It is a simplistic take on war and humanity - which the Academy might honor.
Best Original Score
Nominees:
American Fiction – Laura Karpman
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – John Williams
Killers of the Flower Moon  Robbie Robertson †
Oppenheimer – Ludwig Göransson
Poor Things – Jerskin Fendrix
Tumblr media
Prediction: Oppenheimer
With his 54th nomination (and final because of his retirement), John Williams has entertained with his latest rendition of one of Hollywood's greatest film franchises. However, Goransson's Oppenheimer soundtrack adds tension to the film's plot - particularly with "Can You Hear the Music?" He can easily add an Oscar to his collection of Awards for Oppenheimer.
Best Original Song
Nominees:
"The Fire Inside" from Flamin' Hot – Music and lyrics by Diane Warren
"I'm Just Ken" from Barbie – Music and lyrics by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt
"It Never Went Away" from American Symphony – Music and lyrics by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson
"Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)" from Killers of the Flower Moon – Music and lyrics by Scott George
"What Was I Made For?" from Barbie – Music and lyrics by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell
Tumblr media
Prediction: What Was I Made For?
It's likely a second win for the Eilish-O'Connell siblings - after No Time to Die.
Best Sound
Nominees:
The Creator – Ian Voigt, Erik Aadahl, Ethan Van der Ryn, Tom Ozanich, and Dean Zupancic
Maestro – Steven A. Morrow, Richard King, Jason Ruder, Tom Ozanich, and Dean Zupancic
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – Chris Munro, James H. Mather, Chris Burdon, and Mark Taylor
Oppenheimer – Willie Burton, Richard King, Gary A. Rizzo, and Kevin O'Connell
The Zone of Interest – Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn
Tumblr media
Prediction: Oppenheimer
It's Nolan's year when it comes to technical awards. The sound design and editing show that Nolan has duly followed the laws of physics - and ensured tension in the other scenes.
Best Production Design
Nominees:
Barbie – Production Design: Sarah Greenwood; Set Decoration: Katie Spencer
Killers of the Flower Moon – Production Design: Jack Fisk; Set Decoration: Adam Willis
Napoleon – Production Design: Arthur Max; Set Decoration: Elli Griff
Oppenheimer – Production Design: Ruth De Jong; Set Decoration: Claire Kaufman
Poor Things – Production Design: James Price and Shona Heath; Set Decoration: Zsuzsa Mihalek
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Barbie/Poor Things
Fantasy films have eye-grabbing sets and decorations that are attractive to the Academy voters. It can be either of the two women-centric films.
Best Cinematography
Nominees:
El Conde – Edward Lachman
Killers of the Flower Moon – Rodrigo Prieto
Maestro – Matthew Libatique
Oppenheimer – Hoyte van Hoytema
Poor Things – Robbie Ryan
Prediction(s): Oppenheimer
Tumblr media
Hoytema's camerawork captures expansive desert vistas and painfully intimate close-ups using IMAX film cameras (in color and monochrome). A win for him is confirmed
Best Makeup and Hairstyling
Nominees:
Golda – Karen Hartley Thomas, Suzi Battersby, and Ashra Kelly-Blue
Maestro – Kazu Hiro, Kay Georgiou, and Lori McCoy-Bell
Oppenheimer – Luisa Abel
Poor Things – Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier, and Josh Weston
Society of the Snow – Ana López-Puigcerver, David Martí, and Montse Ribé
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Maestro
Although other movies have dominated the major categories, a Bradly Cooper film can win an Oscar this year - with the magnificent transformation of the lead actor into Leonard Bernstein.
Best Costume Designing
Nominees:
Barbie – Jacqueline Durran
Killers of the Flower Moon – Jacqueline West
Napoleon – Janty Yates and Dave Crossman
Oppenheimer – Ellen Mirojnick
Poor Things – Holly Waddington
Prediction(s): Barbie/Poor Things
Tumblr media
Like many fantasy films, it's a tough pick between the two films in costumes - like the production design category.
Best Film Editing
Nominees:
Anatomy of a Fall – Laurent Sénéchal
The Holdovers – Kevin Tent
Killers of the Flower Moon – Thelma Schoonmaker
Oppenheimer – Jennifer Lame
Poor Things – Yorgos Mavropsaridis
Tumblr media
Prediction(s): Oppenheimer
It goes with saying for the technical awards and Nolan - with the montages, parallel storytelling, and transitions that accompany the screenplay.
Best Visual Effects
Nominees:
The Creator – Jay Cooper, Ian Comley, Andrew Roberts, and Neil Corbould
Godzilla Minus One – Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi, and Tatsuji Nojima
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – Stéphane Ceretti, Alexis Wajsbrot, Guy Williams, and Theo Bialek
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – Alex Wuttke, Simone Coco, Jeff Sutherland, and Neil Corbould
Napoleon – Charley Henley, Luc-Ewen Martin-Fenouillet, Simone Coco, and Neil Corbould
Tumblr media
Prediction: Godzilla Minus One
I'm deeply offended that Oppenheimer didn't get a nomination in this category. However, with the nominees, I'd have to pick Godzilla - with its first-ever nomination in the franchise - and also because it is a visual spectacle besides Oppenheimer this year.
That's all for now. Let's see who wins what this year. See you at the Oscars.

Does anyone want a T7S Titanic AU?
Steven Hyde (born 1885) as Jack Dawson: A twenty-six-year-old drifter from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, who gambled his way onto the Titanic. He's traveled throughout North America and western Europe, including Paris, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and London, never settling down in one place. It's just him, his new friend Fez, a few books, and an acoustic guitar. Until he finds Jackie, a young woman who longs to free herself from the shackles of high society.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Burkhart (born 1887) as Rose Dewitt-Bukater: Part of the disgraced Burkhart family, her father Jack is in prison (he was on the wrong side of the law, and his trust was broken up by Teddy Roosevelt himself). And she's close to becoming an old maid, in her mother's eyes, so she must maintain appearances. And engage herself to a restless investment banker, and commit herself to misery. Like many before her.
Pamela "Pam" Burkhart (born 1865) as Ruth Dewitt-Bukater: Pam is desperate. Her husband is in prison, the money is almost gone, and she's trying to salvage what's left and save face. And that includes marrying her "old maid" of a daughter off to an investment banker.
Katherine "Kitty" Forman (nee Sigurdson) (born 1861) as Margaret "Molly" Brown: A former Wisconsinite and daughter of an abolitionist, she follows her restless husband Red to Chicago and then to Leadville, Colorado, where he strikes it rich. She's a mother, a nurse, and heads a soup kitchen. And as a part of the "nouveau riche," she's almost universally shunned by high society. But she's willing to lend a hand, when the rest? They hoard their riches, and sit on their laurels.
Michael Kelso (born 1885) as Tommy: A meager, reckless Scotsman and welder, hoping to find a better life in America with his wife Elizabeth "Brooke" (born 1883) and their children Elizabeth "Betsy" (born 1904) and John "Jay" (born 1910).
Fez (born 1886) as Fabrizio: Hyde's close friend, who he met in New York. He has accompanied him on his adventures in Paris, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and London.
Karl Schmidt (born 1884) as Cal Hockley: Jackie's fiance. A hot-headed, ambitious investment banker.
Plus:
Eric Forman (born 1886) as Lawrence "Larry" Brown: Shunning the family mining business by being a history professor at the University of Chicago and an amateur photographer and filmmaker, he's well known for consistently disappointing his father. But because of Red's failing health, his father appointed him to be the representative of the American branch of the Forman family at the family reunion in Northern Ireland. Unlike his father, he is notorious for being incredibly unlucky.
Donna Forman (nee Pinciotti) (born 1886): Eric's progressive suffragette wife and a promising freelancer, originally from New York, who fails to fit in with the society ladies. Her paternal grandmother (a Visconti) was born into old money, older than even the society ladies can possibly boast. But her father Bob also lucked out by investing in Henry Ford's business early on, largely due to his daughter's insistence.
Sarah "Sadie" Forman (born 1905): Eric and Donna's young daughter, who is quiet, pensive, and creative. She seems to have both her mother's love for reading and writing, and her father's love for photography and filmography.
William "Liam" Forman (born 1909): Eric and Donna's young son, who is often attached to his sister's hip.
And:
Reginald "Red" Forman (born 1857) as JJ Brown: Not featured but consistently mentioned, Red is a mining engineer that struck it rich (and found a massive ore seam) in Leadville, Colorado, with his wife Kitty already (and still firmly) by his side. His branch of the family, hailing from Northern Ireland, left during the potato famine and initially settled in Point Place, Wisconsin. But his failing health prevented him from attending the Forman family reunion, so he asked Eric to represent the family in lieu of his attendance.

one difference: kelso makes out with another pam
by ymnfilter
diverging from s01e13 ski trip, what would have happened if kelso had started an affair with his girlfriend's mom?
“Say Michael, have you and my daughter been dating very long?”
“Oh yeah, it’s been almost 4 months now.” Kelso stated proudly, but then pouted, “But it feels like it’s been forever. Jackie won’t even let me reach second base with her and I’ve been really good about not doing it with anyone else because she wants us to lose our virginities together, but it’s really hard, Pam.”
“Oh, I can just imagine. Jackie is stubborn just like her father.” Pam seemed to have made a decision. She shrugged her shoulders, the coverup slipping down her arm artfully and exposing her barely-held-together-by-a-skimpy-bikini-top breasts. Michael’s eyes zeroed on them like a beacon and Pamela smiled, taking a step closer to the younger boy, “Say Michael- if you ever get bored… waiting for Jackie…” She placed a hand under his chin, raising it up so that their eyes met, “how about you come and find me?”

penelope grew up an only child to richard and emiliy hainline. the world knew her as their pride and joy, but, if you had asked penelope she would not say the same.
richard was an attorney and her mother a retired model and socialite. they lived in a luxurious home in manhattan where penelope had to want for not. the girl was spoiled with many materialistic items yet her parents failed to show her affection.
the main person who raised penelope was her nanny. her nanny was an older woman by the name of pamela, she took care of penny as if she was her own. penny loved the woman more than anyone. she was there throughout everything in the young blonde’s life.
penelope never saw herself as different as a child. she was just a loud ball of energy. of course she was a little chunkier than her fellow pageant contestants but she was just as good if not better in her mind. it wasn’t until high school when she realized maybe she was different. her classmates began to call her miss piggy as a diss to her weight.
it made penelope extremely self conscious but she didn’t think it was that bad the coolest guy in school had a crush on her after all... and eventually asked her to prom. she thought life was looking up. he made her feel cool and that none of those people matter.
it wasn’t until the fateful evening of prom when she was crowned prom queen and her fellow students decided to pull a full on carrie and dump blood all over her that she realized she was just a part of a big joke. after that day she vowed to never let anyone treat her in such a way. she changed everything about herself. she lost weight and made new friends. she was going to be the one ruining lives not the other way around.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Beulah Burkhart (born September 24, 1961), the Familial Lore...
Jackie is the daughter of John "Jack" Charles Burkhart Jr (born 1920) and Pamela "Pam" DuBois (born 1938). Yeah, there's a major age gap, and Jack is easily old enough to be Pam's father.
Pam comes from Madison, a sheltered only child, but went to college to Milwaukee. With the intent of finding a husband. She dates Dean the eventual fireman for awhile, who hails from Point Place, but meets Jack while she's there. And although she does love him, she mostly sees dollar signs. And after college graduation in 1960, with a business degree in hand, they marry. A year later, Jackie is born.
*****
Her Father:
John "Jack" Charles Burkhart Jr (born 1920): The youngest child of John Sr and his wife Emma. His father is a foolish scoundrel, and he takes after his far more seemingly calculating mother. Well, mostly. Him writing his classmates' papers got him kicked out of law school in New York, and he's more than willing to skirt around the rules to get his way.
Her Father's Roots:
Her father has German, Dutch, and English roots...
John Charles Burkhart Sr (1882-1929): The Burkhart name was anglicized from the German surname Burkhardt by his ancestors, who typically intermingled with German, Dutch, and English stock. He's firmly old money, from the northeast. He's a desperate party boy, a reckless schemer, who is willing to marry down...
Emma Grace Cowell (1885-1980): Her family is firmly new money, finding success with a string of department stores (called Cowell's) in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. She was previously married to a lowly store clerk named Thomas Dunne, which outraged her father, who died of pneumonia in 1911. He fathered her first daughter, Sarah, who is Jack's only notable ally (along with her son Charlie) following his arrest in 1978.
His Siblings:
Sarah Louisa Abbott (nee Dunne) (1907-1988): Jack's half sister, from their mother's first marriage. She's a loving social butterfly, and she treats Jack almost like a son. Her son Charlie (Carla's father) and Jack are almost like brothers.
Lillian Grace Croft (nee Burkhart) (born 1913): Jack's quiet but calculating older sister. She's more than willing to adhere to the rules of high society, and one of her daughters Corinne is notorious for doing the same.
Extra:
Emma's sister Julia married into the Morgan family, and the Morgan family helped bring the Burkhart family to Point Place. So, Buddy and Jackie are not so distant cousins (second cousins once removed).
*****
Her Mother/Her Mother's Roots:
Pamela "Pam" Anne DuBois (formerly Burkhart) (born 1938): The spoiled rotten child of two Canadians, one French and one English. Her parents, Philippe and Annie, moved to the states during the Great Depression.
Her mother Annie and her grandmother Flora run an alterations shop, but Pam doesn't share much of their enthusiasm. She deserves to be more than a measly seamstress, and her dad's government job in Madison is boring. Cutthroat yet considering the ways of the day, she goes to school to find love. And finds love, and love for the cutthroat world of real estate. The latter of which distracts her from her miserable personal life, along with the copious amounts of alcohol. Until her whole world explodes.
More context:
There's this whole other plot point where Jack gets annoyed for not giving him a son, and a stillbirth gone horribly wrong (to Jennifer, hence the name aversion on Jackie's part) renders Pam infertile. Now, she is no longer a woman, she thinks, so she projects this toxic attitude to Jackie. As she drinks.
