sometimes i wonder if the mario universe is just kinda stuck in time or something with how most characters (for the most part) have stayed the same age for a while now
like i get keeping the main cast (mario, luigi, peach, etc.) looking the same for the purpose of just being recognizable and such, but i'm referring to the consequences of it story/canon wise
because mario and luigi have both been like 24-25 (as stated by miyamoto in an interview) for basically ever since they've first debuted as adults, but at the same time they've gone through so much during their adult lives to the point where sometimes i wonder when exactly this all takes place? because i feel like some of these adventures take weeks to months to accomplish, but if that's the case there's absolutely no way all these adventures would take place under the span of a year
so like....did time just pause for them or something once the bros hit 24-25 or does time work differently in their world and years are way longer/slower
would love to get other moots' thoughts on this 👀
#i tried thinking about my timeline for my mario au a few months ago and after putting all the events together i was like#“wait but how close together are these events because they've done so much in their lives already but they haven't aged at all”#mario#luigi#super mario bros#pap bleu rant#pap bleu post

driving will always terrify me because there's still a lot of things i don't know how to do and am scared of doing because i don't want to mess up. like i have no idea how to go to a gas station and actually fill up my car with gas using actual physical cash. people have tried to teach me by saying "oh you just go up to the worker and say '10 dollars on pump 9 please'" but like. the idea of just going up to a complete stranger on my own still terrifies me. "you're an adult now you should be able to do this" yes i'm an adult but i am also an adult with diagnosed anxiety and that crap terrifies me. we literally grew up being told not to trust strangers what do you mean.
also i always go the speed limit no matter how many people get mad at me for it, but still whenever i hear someone honking at me i still get a sinking feeling in my chest. i know what i'm doing is right and i'm just following the law but i really don't like making people mad
i hate driving. here are the laws! if you break them there will be consequences! except youre also expected to break the law just a little bit. people will get mad at you if you dont. you dont have right of way but the person who does is waving you forward for some reason. here's the speed limit! it's not the speed limit, the actual speed limit is that plus ~5-10. the light is green but you're in the turning lane. can you go? should you have gone just then? the person behind you is honking at you. there's a weird noise coming from your engine; if you try to do the right thing and get it checked out, will you get scammed? you are driving a 1-2 ton metal machine rocketing at speeds unknown to humankind for most of history. around a million people die in car accidents every year; that's about one person every thirty seconds. if you take that seriously and try to drive safely then people get mad at you.
#also side tangent but i hate how there's barely any walkable places#i love walking so much and it's also way safer than driving a huge piece of metal#pap bleu rant#pap bleu post

SolarTale Arc 1 - Chapter 6 : The Origin of Negativity
(English part below in the post)
-------------
For several weeks, Chara has been training with Papyrus to improve her powers. Every day she trains hard so that she can strike a blow at the great skeleton, while creatures of negativity appear more and more frequently, but Chara and Papyrus always manage to counter their attacks brilliantly.
The origin of these creatures is still unknown, as are their abilities, but they are becoming more powerful by the day, which worries our two protagonists until the famous day arrives.
A large skeleton with blackish matter like that which makes up the creatures was with them, tentacles were on its back, still blackish, while black liquid flowed from its eyes. This skeleton and the creatures of negativity were inevitably linked, and the fact that it was the source of the problem is more than likely. They attack the village of Snowdin again, while Chara and Papyrus neutralise the creatures one by one.
Chara suffers numerous injuries due to the number of creatures present and regenerates as best she can. The skeleton filled with negativity seems very powerful and destroys all those who oppose him. Papyrus is also badly hurt, then a teleportation noise is heard and a small skeleton with a broad smile on its face appears, bringing with it a huge gaster blaster that shoots, destroying many creatures.
Chara, on seeing him, remembers him immediately, he's the one who attacked her at the ruins but he seems to be saving them?
Sans : Well then, Gaster, are you attacking Snowdin?
The large skeleton controlling the creatures seems to be called Gaster and he answers with a voice that is unrecognisable, jerky and terrifying
Gaster : 𝕊𝕒𝕟𝕤, 𝕤𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦'𝕣𝕖 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖? 𝕎𝕖'𝕝𝕝 𝕓𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕗𝕗 𝕢𝕦𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕪…
One of the tentacles on Gaster's back rushes towards Sans but he is intercepted and pierced by a bone just before it reaches him. Sans snapped his fingers and a dozen blasters appeared, all firing at Gaster in a huge explosion. Chara could only stand back and watch as the sheer level of power chilled her blood.
Papyrus : Sans! You're here!
Papyrus was in a bad way but he was happy that his brother was there to save them, he knew that all the inhabitants were now safe.
Gaster had protected himself with his tentacles, which formed a sphere, but he had still taken a lot of damage, and the tentacles suddenly shot out, sending a shockwave through Solar that propelled him.
A gaster blaster appears behind him and catches him before firing at Gaster, who takes it head-on but his negativity increases, regenerating his wounds.
Sans : Come on Gaster, do you want to have a bad time?
Sans says this cheerfully, then his right eye glows, leaving a trail of several colours across his right eye, then blue bones pierce Gaster and Blasters appear all around him, firing at full power continuously for several long seconds.
Sharp, pointed bones appear en masse to pierce Gaster at the same time, who doesn't even have time to understand what's happening to him. After this phenomenal attack, Gaster is half disintegrated as his body gradually reforms with his negativity, but very slowly, and he uses his last strength to flee.
Sans approaches his brother, Papyrus and Chara.
Sans : Hey, are you all right, Paps? You're not hurt? What about you, kid?
Papyrus : Sans! You're here, I'm so happy to see you!
Even though the skeleton seemed friendly, Chara doesn't answer, remaining wary after what happened in the ruins.
Sans : That's good then, it's all over for a long time, Gaster shouldn't show up again for a long time
The village was thriving again, but for how long? Fate will tell soon enough, but first let's take advantage of this well-deserved rest and have a bite to eat at Grillby's!

On a muggy May morning in a penthouse in Battersea, southwest London, the delectable self-styled “chef and food consultant” Tess Ward is slumped on an enormous grey sofa, cradling a cup of peppermint tea and musing on the downsides of social media.
“Snapchat I’ve deleted, Twitter — don’t really do it,” she says wearily, her home counties accent as sharp as mandolined celeriac. “I’m even a little bit out of love with Instagram. At the moment I’m getting a lot of direct messages there, but I respectfully choose not to reply to them, because they’re all, like, er . . . interesting. I want a break,” she wails, her tones turning mock-northern. “I just want a break.”
Why is Ward so disillusioned? She’s a key member of today’s cohort of gorgeous, uber-connected food writers/chefs/wellbeing gurus (think “Deliciously” Ella Mills of the Sainsbury dynasty and former models Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley), following the favoured career path for upper-crust pretty things, whom the satirical website the Daily Mash unkindly categorised under the headline “Sexy posh girls unveil bullshit fad diet”.
As in all their cases, Instagram has been key to building Ward’s brand: she has nearly 130,000 followers, mesmerised by her soft-focus lifestyley/foodie shots of toasted almonds and beetroot salad, Ward doing yoga on a Yucatan beach, sweet potato and avocado brunches, Ward sunbathing on the shores of Lake Como and looking foxy at the polo in a bright-red floral Gucci shirt . . .
This last shot, posted early last week, nearly broke social media, not to mention a million teenage hearts — and brought her an additional 50,000 followers. It was apparent confirmation that Ward was — as had been rumoured for days — going out with Harry Styles of the boyband One Direction. Only four days earlier he had been seen about town in an identical £530 shirt.
That same day Ward was papped in the passenger seat of an Audi being driven by Styles, whose first solo album was about to be released. Instantly, she became a 21st-century Yoko Ono, loathed by loyal Directioners who are notorious for making voodoo dolls and sending death threats to any woman with whom their idols are spotted socialising.
They started trolling Ward’s social media. An innocuous Instagram snap of her mango and honey ice cream (dairy-free, obvs) attracted more than 3,000 comments along the lines of “Go awaaay”, “Ew”, “This looks disgusting” and “social climber”.
On Amazon her cookbook The Naked Diet, which had so far received about a dozen four and five-star reviews, overnight attracted a tranche of one-star write-ups, along the lines of “boring” and “unoriginal”.
“It’s been so weird, the hate messages . . . very bizarre,” Ward sighs, her fragile frame hunched. “I’m not the kind of person who’s interested in fame and if you’re put in an environment which you don’t understand and you can’t control and you don’t want, it’s horrible.”
She bites her lip; her doll-like, tanned face bleak. “Reporters have turned up at my mum’s house several times, at my old house. I just want to do what I love and that’s cook, it really is.”
So what’s going on? Is Ward, 27, going out with Styles, 23?
“I literally don’t have anything to say about that,” she sighs, as her PR snaps: “My clients don’t talk about their personal lives.”
Many distraught Directioners are convinced there’s nothing to talk about because this is all a publicity stunt to flog cookbooks (although what’s in it for Styles is less clear). Last weekend, Ward attended his “secret” London gig until, according to one fan who claimed on Twitter to have been standing near by, she was told by Styles’s people: “That’s enough, you can leave now.” In other words, her presence had been noted, job done.
If this is all a ploy to boost Ward’s profile, I doubt she would be so visibly shaken. Shortly after we meet, Ward disables her Instagram messaging facility, posting: “For everyone following and messaging me, I am thankful but please be kind to me. All I want is to share beautiful food with you all.”
Assuming there is a relationship, then Styles, who is refusing to comment, is a lucky chap. Because, even compared to his arm-long list of exes (Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, Caroline Flack, Pixie Geldof, Rod Stewart’s daughter and someone from Made in Chelsea), Ward is a catch, ridiculously pretty in frayed jeans and an embroidered denim jacket, bobbed fair hair, endearingly darker at the roots, framing an angelic face — a testament to the power of good genes and quinoa.
She’s also — when not brooding on her role as Britain’s most-hated woman — extremely likeable: voluble and friendly with a dry sense of humour.
“People can be so weird,” she continues on the social media theme. “You post a salad and they’re like, ‘That’s not nutritionally balanced.’ I like to be playful. There’s a slight puritanism about the way a lot of people post about food — they’ll be like, ‘I’m eating this salmon bowl and it’s got all these omegas, it’s perfect for getting your skin to glow.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care! It’s a f***ing salmon salad!’ ” She frowns as she scrolls through comments on her Instagram feed. “Here’s this pasta recipe I’ve written. ‘Even if it’s not perfect it’s good when it’s made with love’ — that’s a bit too earnest. I was like, ‘Ew! God, far too nice for me.’ ”
Part of London’s It crowd (she is forever being snapped at parties with minor royals and the models Suki Waterhouse and Amber Le Bon and was, allegedly, introduced to Styles via “mutual friends”), Ward has walked here in Battersea from the house she shares in west London. “I used to live alone, but when you cook, you need people around to offload the food.” She’s looking to buy in hipper Stoke Newington, nearer the buzzing bars and restaurants.
Her parents — she has a brother, who’s a student — divorced when she was ten. Her father, who lives between west London and Oxfordshire, works for a multinational property company. “Dad’s a bit nuts; he wears tweed suits and bright purple shirts and odd socks always,” she says, smiling, scrolling through her phone to find a picture. “Look, here he is going to a fancy-dress party, dressed as bouillon, so in a chicken hat.”
Her mother, who lives in Oxford, is a yoga teacher. “She’s very spiritual, she sends me pictures of her in her crystal healing area. So cute. I have the best parents. They’re very progressive, bohemian, they’ve always been like, ‘Do whatever you like, it’s your body, it’s your life’, but everything has consequences and as a result I’ve always been very responsible.”
Ward was a tomboyish child, happiest helping her maternal grandfather, a farmer, to “pluck pheasants and gut fish’’. She attended a Quaker boarding school, then a small private day school for girls in Oxford. “I hated it. I was disruptive and got in so much trouble. I really didn’t feel the cookie-cutter school system was for me.”
However, she flourished at the local private sixth form college and ended up following a classic upper-middle-class path of reading history of art at the University of Leeds where, with a lot of free time, she held “a lot of dinner parties”.
On graduating, she did some modelling “but that didn’t sing for me”, so studied classical French cooking at Le Cordon Bleu, before working at various establishments including the Ritz and River Cottage.
“Cooking for people didn’t really do it for me. You’re always making the same stuff, and in a restaurant the hours are long and it’s hard physical labour. You’re on your feet for at least 14 hours a day and I’m not very big — my parents were like, ‘You’re quite pale and weathered.’ ”
She started reviewing restaurants for Grazia magazine, consulting brands such as Fortnum & Mason and Grey Goose. In the future she is hoping to open a restaurant and write a sequel to The Naked Diet, whose title reflects Ward’s “stripped back” approach to unprocessed food.
Like Ella Mills, Ward has been “mindful” of what she eats as a result of health issues — travelling alone around India on her gap year she picked up a parasite that was eventually cured by a clinical nutritionist (she has done an online course at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition). She’s allergic to soya and avoids wheat: “It gives me a stomach ache.” She doesn’t eat dessert much because “I don’t have a terribly sweet tooth” and dislikes melted cheese — “so pizza’s out”. She has just given up red meat “more for the planet than for dietary reasons. Other than that, I’m pretty relaxed.”
The #avotoast world is an increasingly crowded one and can be bitchy. Last year she had a skirmish with the Bake Off finalist Ruby Tandoh, after Ward tweeted: “Let’s all make baking books and wonder why the world has health and sugar addiction problems.” Tandoh lashed back calling her a “denizen of the weight loss industry” on Twitter, screenshotting a reference to a “Skinny Bitch” cooking class Ward had hosted.
“A lot of girls in food aren’t so nice,” Ward says. “Though the Hemsleys really are good girls. I went to their first book launch when I was submitting my first draft, looked around and thought, ‘This is the beginning of a thing, isn’t it?’
“Ella’s book was coming out, it became a wave and the media lumped us into one category. But I was very aware that these were girls telling people what they should eat. I’m not a qualified nutritionist, I’m a chef — my standpoint is food being delicious primarily and secondarily what’s good for you.
“Healthy living is a trend and that’s more my thing than clean eating, which is a fad and something I feel I was pulled into. The vegan and the clean can perpetuate a lot of other problems, which aren’t good.”

to add my own input on things, my teachers have told me before in the past that we aren't allowed to use ai in our writing assignments (for good reason), but they told me that despite them telling people not to use ai, some students still use it thinking they can get away with it
and i'm starting to realize now that if i want to become a teacher (which is what im in university for right now), i'm going to have to eventually be in their situation of trying to tell my future students not to use ai for things. but i think me having knowledge on it already (both from just being someone online and also from being a writer) will help me not only tell them not to, but also tell them why they shouldn't
one of the things my university is focusing on in terms of assignments isn't necessarily to make sure you get the right answer, but to show the process behind why/how you got to that answer. if you use ai to just get the answer to a question, you learn nothing, and then when it's time to take a test you're in trouble because you have no idea how to actually get that answer
writing and learning are both important processes to be able to do, and ai is just making it harder for people to learn because they want to take the "easy" way. but by taking the "easy" way, you won't be able to get far
a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
#tbf i'm going into elementary education so the chances of me having to even deal with students using ai are low#but i still think it's important to acknowledge that ai is bad#pap bleu post

A Well Needed Break
(A little drabble based on an edit I made on my channel recently with Mario and Luigi!! This is the first time in a while I've written something, so I hope you all enjoy qwq)
...
Mario closed his eyes as he leaned against the fence, feeling the calming ocean breeze pass him by. He listened to the waves as they hit the shore, finally having a chance to relax and enjoy nature. No quests, no adventures, and no shenanigans.
Just peace.
Luigi was close by, his eyes open as he watched the waves. He and his brother decided to take a break from everything, a break from the chaos of their world. Especially with the crazy adventure in Concordia several months ago, as pretty as some of the places were, the brothers never got to properly take their time enjoying the sights. They just focused on trying to help fix Concordia and get back home.
Now that everything was over and their injuries were healed, they had a chance to sit back and enjoy the scenery.
"Mario, look," Luigi called out.
Mario opened his eyes, turning around and facing the ocean to see what Luigi was pointing at.
The sun was setting in the distance.
Mario couldn't help but gasp in awe; it was beautiful. Nothing blocked the view of the sun; it looked as though the giant star was slowly sinking into the water. The pinks, reds and oranges of the sunset were amazing to see. Luigi wished he had brought his camera.
"I wish it was this easy to see sunsets all the time," said Luigi. "They're so hard to see with all the hills back home."
"Yeah," Mario replied quietly. The peaceful environment started to make him feel tired.
Luigi looked at the ocean, seeing how quiet the water seemed. The waves didn't seem too powerful now. He began to think.
"Mario?"
"Hm?" Mario hummed.
"How did you learn to swim so well?" Luigi asked.
"Trial and error," Mario answered simply. "Though after having to go to so many places around the world, I just...kinda had to. I had to figure out how to get better at swimming or else I'd risk losing too much air."
Luigi listened quietly to Mario's answer, looking back at the waves with a serious look on his face. He wasn't the best at swimming; he could survive in it, but he can only stay afloat for so long.
"Why do you ask?" replied Mario.
"Well...I was wondering..." Luigi began, "Could you teach me a few things?"
"About swimming?" Mario asked.
"Yeah," Luigi nodded. "You're really good at it, and...I want to get better."
"Of course, bro," Mario agreed. "I'd be happy to help you."
"Really?" Luigi muttered.
"Yeah!" Mario cheered. "I don't mind at all. It'll be fun! I can show you everything I know. But we can take it slow. We don't have to rush through it, okay?"
Luigi smiled.
"Thanks, big bro," Luigi chuckled. "You're the best."
Another breeze from the ocean came by, this one much colder, making Luigi shiver a little. It was getting late.
"Come on, Lu," Mario guided. "Let's head back to our room. It's getting dark."
"Y-Yeah," Luigi shivered. "Okay."
The two then made their way away from the fence, heading back to their hotel room where they could be warm and cozy while also watching the ocean's waves from their window.

That's Not Me
(A Luigi-focused story that deals with a few intrusive thoughts. Nothing too graphic, but be warned that things get a bit angsty.)
...
Luigi was walking around town on his own, holding a bag full of groceries. He was on his way home when he ended up overhearing a nearby conversation between a few toads.
"I think that people shouldn't be judged for stuff they did years ago," said one toad. "People can change."
"Not always," said another. "Some just try to distance away from what they did to forget it even happened. To try and not be held accountable."
"Not only that, but some can probably act different, but still be the same on the inside," another toad added. "They just hide it."
Luigi felt a feeling of guilt rising up in his chest. It had been quite some time since he remembered what happened when he was Mr. L. While he still had some doubts, he had Mario and Princess Peach who reassured him that that wasn't who he was. He'd never hurt anyone on purpose.
But by overhearing that conversation, he started to wonder if that was wrong.
What if he did hurt people on purpose? What if he was just as bad? What if Mr. L was who he was truly supposed to be?
No, he thought. It couldn't be.
But what if?
What if he didn't change? What if he still is bad, mean Mr. L, and he just isn't aware of it? What if he does end up hurting the people he cares about?
What if he ends up hurting Mario and Mario doesn't want anything to do with him after?
Luigi walked over to a tree, taking a deep breath.
"No," Luigi insisted to himself. "That's not me. That's not true."
The thoughts only came from his anxiety. They weren't him.
Luigi breathed in for four seconds, holding his breath and then breathing out for another four.
"I'm Luigi," Luigi muttered to himself. "And I care about my friends a lot. I'd never hurt them on purpose."
"That's not what I want to do," stated Luigi.
He had to keep going, he remembered. No matter what he did or what people thought of him. He had to keep living.
"I can be better," said Luigi. "I can change. I don't have to be that."
Moving his feet once again, he made his way back to the house, where his brother was waiting for him.
