Presents
Pairing :  John Price x f!reader. (Reader is medic , call sign : Chameleon )
Summary: 141 boys getting their early presents. Including a very surprised one for Price himself. Slight crack-ish fun :) not beta'd.
This is part of the “Mini” MacTavish universe, but the reader isn’t “ Mini”. Continuation of Little secret series. Thanks for @captainpriceslover for her inspiration for the fic Trinkets, this is kind of continuation from that fic too.
“masterlist” for prequel to this Mini MacTavish expanded verse.
Tumblr media
“.... What’s in these boxes Captain? New gadgets for the mission?” Soap stared at the boxes his Captain sat down on the desk.
“Christmas Presents.” Price grumbled. He pushed one box each in front of Soap and Gaz, two towards Ghost.
Soap frowned. “It’s only October. Not even time for Christmas shopping yet.” he lifted the box up, trying to rattle it. “Jesus hell, it's a bit heavy.”
“Hum. Mine is a bit lighter, and sounds like there are things rolling around..” Gaz mumbled.
“Blame my wife. She insisted you boys have the presents early as we wouldn’t be around for the festive season.”
Price loves his wife. He tried to keep her a secret as long as possible but the big gossiper of Ghost “accidently” let it slip about her existence and cue the two nosy boys immediately went and hunted her down in the infirmary. He was actually quite surprised as smart as Gaz and Soap are, it took them this long to catch on, even seeing you and their child during Simon’s wedding.
Gaz and soap peeked into the infirmary, currently void of any patient, and saw you sitting in the corner, sipping on a cup of coffee while shuffling through patient notes.
Hearing the creak of the door, you saw the two men trying to push each other into the room. “Hello, I see you two have found me.” Chuckling as you wave at them to come and take a seat as you push your laptop and paper works aside. “What can I do for you? Did my husband send you two out to drag me out from here?”
“We just want to see the person who beated some sense into our Captain.” Gaz elbowed Soap as he blurted out. Two of them proceeded to bombard you with all sorts of questions. How did you two meet? Who asks who out? How old is the kid? You patiently answered all their questions, trying to satisfy their curiosity. You two “officially”met during the Amsterdam mission, Price asked you out (surprisingly), little Kyle is turning ten soon, a football fanatic just like his father.
Everything slowly became clearer to Gaz, the amused smile his Captain showed, when he introduced himself during the Piccadilly.
The occasional sad smile when his Captain checks his private phone during their long mission away.
The eagerness when they unexpectedly complete the mission and get to return back to the UK early.
He was eager to return to his family. To you and his young son.
Three of them had a good chatting session afterward. They found out you have been in the SAS longer than both of them, they are really surprised they haven’t really noticed you around, even with the amount of times the men have been in and out of the infirmary or on mission.
“Remember what my call sign is? Chameleon. I am very good at blending in,unnoticed.” She explained with a little smile.
You seem to be a very quiet but determined person. Gaz and Soap can see the resemblance in personality in both of you and Price. No wonder Price has fallen for you. He thought. Someone who is just a workaholic but devoted to each other.
Ghost’s brow went up a bit when he opened his box, Gaz looked over, a skull shaped soap dispenser?? And two little cute animal soap dispensers in there.
“She meant to give that to you when we moved.” Price shrugged as he lit up a cigar, a smirk on his face. “The other box is for Mini. Those two little dispensers are for Tiny and Aileen.”
“WHY IS THIS BOX FULL OF SOAP?” Soap cried, he sniffed himself. “Do I stink? Is she trying to say I stink? Oh Gosh Emma never told me I stink…”
Gaz opened up the lid of the box, in there he found a few fancy looking hand-made soaps,
“Soap… I got a few blocks of it too, don't worry. Seems she thinks both of us stink equally.” Gaz laughed. Underneath the blocks of soap, he also found a new set of knitting needles, crochet hooks and different colour yarns, You remembered, to Gaz’s surprise, during that initial conversation he mentioned to you his side hobbies are knitting and crocheting, crafty skill he learnt from his grandmother, which he found soothing and meditative to get his mind away from the bloodshed. Pulling out the yarns, he noticed right at the bottom there is also a little booklet of patterns for …. Baby clothes?
Gaz frowned. He’s not expecting any babies. He doesn’t even have a partner! What are you trying….OH.
Turning towards Price. “.... are you two expecting?” He asked.
Turning his head away from watching Soap’s self-wallowing and Ghost quietly happy with his little gag  present, Price slowly turned and looked at Gaz, he could see confusion in his Captain’s eyes.
“ What made you say that?”
Gaz holds up the book.
“..... are you not telling me something Gaz?” Price’s eyes narrowed, throwing the question back at him.
“Captain, you know I definitely don’t have anyone in my life at the moment. And I DEFINITELY did not knock anyone up.”
Price went all quiet. Gaz could see him trying to process the information.
All of sudden, he stood up, startling all three of them and marched out of the office, towards the infirmary.
“....what is going on?” Soap looked at Gaz, and back to Ghost.
“ I think he just got a pleasant surprise gift himself too.”
Moments later, they could hear your scream, followed by you insisting your husband to put you back down, to everyone’s jaw dropping and stares as Price bridal carried you out of the infirmary, along the corridor, heading towards the front gate, trying to get you home to rest.
The day the whole barrack finally realised Captain John Price and you are actually married to each other.

Sorry @captainpriceslover, as with all my stories, it takes turn unexpectly as I write them :P

Hear me out (clicks for Palestine)
John “I’m invisible” Mactavish
Simon “Everyone’s looking at me” Riley
First and foremost, Soap is a soldier. That’s what the army and everyone sees him as. He knows he’s expandable and easily replaced.
His personality isn’t to fault either. It’s not his fault that his personality would just be compatible with other soldiers. They’re all the same. Carbon copy. If you took a picture of Soap’s friends and another picture of a random group of soldiers all laughing together, it’s basically look the same but with a mohawk wielding idiot in the centre.
Soap’s dispensable as a fucking paper cup. If he died tomorrow Price would probably find another demolitions expert that doesn’t know how to shut his fucking hole the next day.
Soap doesn’t know if he’s grateful or annoyed that he’s so replaceable. It’s basically saying that his life doesn’t even matter in the face of everything. That no matter what, his death won’t leave a single mark in the army. Which, fair, they do have a lot of soldiers, but the parasites in soap beg to be special. It sickens him down to his core. He’s no better than any other pain in the ass, run of the mill ballsy solider. It’s demeaning, it makes him feel useless, like he doesn’t matter.
It’s horrible.
Ghost is special.
He’s, quite literally, one of a kind. He’s been to Tartarus and lived to see another day. Both a myth and a legend that’s whispered among the barracks.
If the demeaning skull mask didn’t make it clear enough, ghost was not made to be normal. It was etched into his bones and soaked into his skin.
He will never, ever in his life be normal.
It kills him, metaphorically.
For all the people that are stupid enough to approach him they’re lucky to not be thinking about him lurking in the darkness months from the encounter. He’s a big motherfucker, and he knows it. Always fills up a bit too much space in the room. He looms and sucks out the light out of everything like a screwed up version of a black hole. It draws people to him too, like he didn’t have enough problems to deal with on a day to day basis.
He wants it off. Most men with egos higher than their IQ would bask in the shine, but unfortunately Ghost is too self aware to find anything of the sort. If he had the ability to he would just rip his mask off and melt into the shadows but his face is even scarier than the mask. It’s more frustrating than anything, and on the bad days it bubbles and boils over, threatening to explode to any who still don’t know when to quit.
It’s horrible.

I wanted this home to be super cosy with "Live Love Laugh" vibes. Very much decorated with a feminine eye with lots of cute B&M/Best Buy/cheap & cheerful clutter decor.
I have play-tested this and it all works except the two bathroom sinks because the sinks aren't designed for those counters. I'm guessing the counters are too high which puts the sinks too high to use. I did try to play around and try and get it working but couldn't manage it. It doesn't bother me (it kinda eliminates the dishwashing in the bathroom) so I left it for the ✨ aethestic✨ but they can easily be replaced if you want!
I've also removed the custom images in the bedroom (you can see them in the video), just because they are boudoir shots :)

The office building that made Ground Zero agency was quiet and still. The appointed office hours were over hours back.
Most staff had already retired for the day. Among the black, lifeless screens on the desks, only hers stayed running bright and full of words on its screen.
The cursor behind the word on the tail of her report was left to blink repetitively as she dragged her feet to the pantry.
Her head felt numb with mental exhaustion as the weight of the nearing deadline reared its ugly head once again as the dreading thought of it reminded her again. The uneasiness and brooding anxiety that it brought about was no help in elevating the stress on her.
Between her heavy thoughts about the report taunting her from her computer screen, her legs brought her to the coffee machine.
Her hand fell into a mechanical motion as it placed her mug on the dispenser and lifted to press the Espresso option on the LED screen.
This was her third cup...no, fourth. Wait, or was it the sixth?
It didn’t even matter anymore.
She just needed to get through one more night of slaving away to finish it, and she would be fucking done with this long-due paperwork.
It was stupid of her to procrastinate so much; now she had to pay the price.
In the lonely silence of the pantry, her weary eyes watched the dark coffee dribble over her mug, sending one central ripple across the smooth steaming surface.
Her hand returned its grip to the handle once again, tugging it out of the dispensing holder.
A yawn left her as she turned away and instantly greeted with a startled-
“Fuck-” As the coffee in her mug was sent swishing and splashing over its rim as her hand collided into something solid with a curt jerk.
The scalding sting over her hand made her hiss. Her eyes flew up with irritation, her mouth opening to yell.
And she froze.
Then her eyes widened, horror seeping in when she realized she was staring at the angry face of...Ground Zero himself.
Her eyes followed his gaze down to the coffee dripping off his pants.
Well, shit.
A hasty jumble of ‘Oh my god, I’m so sorry’ tumbled out of her mouth as she placed down her mug on the countertop behind while her other hand tore a handful of paper towels.
Her knees met as she quickly lowered herself before his stained pants.
Maybe it was the nights spent over the stupid report.
Maybe it was the coffee.
It seemed that all common sense or whatever would have kept her from grabbing the front of her boss’s pants had died along with her overworked brain cells.
Her apologies continued stumbling out of her mouth as her hands worked in a hasty pace on his pants, her eyes focused on wiping away the spillage.
Too caught up in her guilt and her panic to realize anything else-
The warmth in her hands was trying to pull away.
The stuttering mess of curses uttered above her.
The stiffening within her grasp.
He just returned from a long day outside to take some stuff and his craving for the aromatic bitterness of coffee was what brought himself straight to the pantry the moment he stepped through the main door.
It was absurd to think he would end up being groped by a female employee in the pantry. The brewing words he wanted to yell at the woman with fell at every brisk rub down him.
Bakugou could feel the resisting voice bubbling in his chest growing quieter at every stroke.
Fuck. While this was bizarre and all to him, the jolting thrill running up his length sent a delicious chill up his spine.
A particular thrill of friction brushing over the protruding vein on his clothed erection shook his next breath out of him.
Loud and harsh enough to draw her eyes up to him, her hands pausing.
And was met with a flustered yet irritated face glaring back at her.
Her eyes drifted back to her hands blankly at where her fingers were wrapped around - something was thick and kinda...lengthy.
In her hands was Ground Zero’s...oh wow.
She always had dirty thoughts about her boss but damn, this was not what she had ever imagined herself doing.
Along with muscular, lean built and tall stature that could give models a run for their money, the bulge accentuated in his flattering, somewhat fitting pants was a big distraction for the females in his agency...or maybe it was just her.
Exactly as she had imagined, he was indeed...big in her hands.
And it was...
Her fingers tightened slightly. ...hard.
A responsive jolt accompanied by a hissing curse made her jump, slapping her with a cold splash of realization.
Shit.
That she was on her knees in her company’s pantry, caressing her boss’s cock.
Oh shit.
Her hands flinched away from him as if scalded and her legs scrambled to get her away. A bright, red blush colored the flustered horror on her face.
She was so fired.
So so FIRED-
“Where the hell do you think you’re going?”
Her eyes raised to find him looking down at her with a towering glare brimming with impatience and frustration.
“You think you can just get away like this?”
“I’m so sorr-”
“Weren’t you just fondling with my cock?” His usual husky voice sounded rougher and breathless. “Who the fuck said you can stop?”
She stared, stunned. Wondering whether her ears were failing her as well.
But clearly they weren’t because she could hear an intriguing strain in his voice.
The struggle in his gruffness and the red eyes prodding into her sent a needy ache within her, feeling a gush of her arousal soaked through her panties underneath her dress.
A slip of her eyes from his face, a shiver ran through her at how his nipples on his well-defined pecs were poking through the tight clad of his hero costume on him.
Her eyes slipped even lower.
The huge tent prodding through his pants made her eyes waver and her breath quivered through her lips.
Was she high from all the coffee? Or had she officially gone nuts?
She wasn’t sure what, but she didn’t even want to care.
The man of her dreams himself was offering himself to her.
She could feel her body trembling with a strong ache. The long, yearning ache that had followed her through the years and pushed her to join his agency.
An ache to be filled by Bakugou Katsuki, the world’s second strongest man.
An ache to feel him shove his cock into her.
An ache to make her wild thoughts about him come true.
She felt the last straining thread holding herself back snap as her hands flew forward, immediately working on the buckle around his waist.
Her lips were stretched over his leaking cock as soon as it sprang free from his pants.
The pre-cum spilling over from his swollen tip smeared over her lips as she moaned giddily at the melting heat in her mouth.
The hand tugging harshly onto her hair dug even more pressure into her scalp as a throaty groan joined her muffled moan.
“Ye-Yeah, show me what you’ve got.”
A grin stretched across Bakugou’s face as he pressed himself harder into her, feeling his cock sink deeper into her warm cavern, her moans spiked with a choke.
“And I’ll give you a good one later.”
His hand left her head to join the other clutching onto the edge of the countertop behind her.
Her walls clenched to his words just as her eyes watered at the pressure pressed to the back of her throat.
Fuck, he was as thick as she had guessed. But she had never imagined he would be so...veiny.
She drew back and relished in the heavy pants and moans from above, tracing her tongue daringly across the trails of veins running along with his lengthy girth.
Her hands raised to join her mouth, adding on with tightening squeeze as she lingered at the tip of his bulging cock.
A slow, elaborate lick across the weeping slit on it, her throat swallowed with a  deep gulp.
Almost instantly, a dragging grunt rumbled through his body.
Humming in delight at what she heard, her cheeks hollowed as she started to suckle heatedly over the hot running tip.
Within the firm grip of her hand, she could feel his thick girth filling up, growing thicker as she welcomed more pre-cum into her.
The husky moans from above light a smirking glint in her eyes as she reached a hand up his length and clamped over his balls with a teasing curt squeeze.
Immediately, the husky moans from him hitched with a broken grunt.
Her walls clenched tight at how erotic that sounded.
“Y-You take my cock so well. Do you think you deserve to be fucked by me?”
The small collected pool of her own arousal on the floor beneath her heated cunt was rained upon by another surge as her walls convulsed with need.
“No, I-I don’t,” His stiff cock popped free from her mouth, a slick thread of her saliva remained connected to its flushed, bloated tip.
“Bu-But Bakugou-sama, you deserve to be inside me.” Her eyes were fogged with hazy heat and her cheeks red.
Bakugou…
His cock spluttered another rush of pre-cum.
...-sama?
“I-I’ve been ready for you ever since I laid my eyes on you.”
His red eyes shook with his expelling breath as a carnal jolt rippled through him, his cock tightening even more with the growing pressure within.
“Strip completely,” His eyes blazed as he spat his order, “Get on that table and show me how much your pussy wants me then.”
Tumblr media
Clothes were strewn on the floor in an irregular trail to the broad table sitting in the center of the pantry.
Propped by her arms behind her, her legs shook with effort to keep her thighs wide apart for him.
Her heated cunt wouldn’t stop leaking, trickles of her slick fluid continued to join the collected puddle on the table below as the man took his time to approach.
The way his hungry gaze sat fix on her weeping folds stretched wide enough for the chills from the air conditioner to tickle her.
Red eyes took in the sight before him greedily.
The clench of her eyebrows on her forehead
The way she bit down on her lower lips.
Her face flushed red and her breasts rising and falling with harsh pants.
And the way her raised thighs were spread wide apart for him.
“Look at you,” Bakugou stopped before her, his lips forming a smug smirk at the sight for the glistening trickles slipping out of her, “...Already dirtying my property with your slutty pussy.”
Her breathy pants spiked with a moan as he pressed two fingers to her clit, pinching it briefly before moving down.
A gathering of her warm arousal coated his fingers as they ran lightly over her-
“I haven’t even done shit yet,” -and paused to pry her sopping folds apart. “But fuck, you’re already so wet.”
A gasping whimper puffed out of her as his fingers pushed through the thick coat and into her aching walls.
The wet, lewd squelch dragged through the air as her wispy whimper rose to a drawn moan at the delicious thrill his fingers made as they bulldozed their way into her sensitive walls.
She found it hard not to stare at the way his erected, weeping cock prodded against his toned stomach. Wondering with a wistful sigh about how it would feel inside her.
“Ba-Bakugou-sama, I-” A rough shove of one more finger into her tore a startled cry through her words.
“You what?” His lips widened with a grin as his fingers curled and stretched teasingly within her pulsing walls.
“P-Please…”
Her eyes raised to his, staring back helplessly at the amusement in his dancing red eyes, trying not to give in to her aching desire to return to his cock. “...fuck me.”
Her struggle against her straying eyes was not missed.
“Aren’t my fingers already doing that?” His knowing grin widened. “Oh you mean...like this?”
His calloused fingers inside her suddenly sped, thrusting through her walls vigorously.
Gasping moans rode through her throat as fast, furious friction of the loud, lewd squelches accompanying his pumping fingers rubbed the heated air between them frantically.
The building pleasure within her was making her dizzy with euphoric fever as her moans rose.
Uncontrollable hot tears escaped her dazed, wavering eyes as she watched his fingers work heatedly between her wide opened thighs.
Her walls were convulsing, resonating with her urgent need to release the pent-up pressure inside her.
Not even coffee could keep her this awake.
The jolting thrills were shaking her overstimulated body. “Baku-Bakugou-sama, I’m-”
His fingers were ripped out of her before she could finish. A startled moan elicited out of her at the same time.
The slick threads connecting his fingers to her spilling cunt quivered as Bakugou brought his hand up, his eyes admiring the result of his work with a satisfied glint.
He brought his heavily coated fingers before her panting, parted lips with a smug, intense gaze.
“Clean up this shit.” His gruff voice was commanding and blunt.
Her lips immediately latched onto his fingers, hastily lapping up her own fluid. It tasted weird on her tongue, but she didn’t bother too much.
She could feel her body shivering with impatience and frustration. One big gulp down her throat, her eyes raised to him with anticipation, in time to see his hand run over his cock.
“I think it’s time I give you your little reward.” His eyes met hers. “Be grateful that I, Ground Zero, even considered putting my cock inside you.”
“Tha-Thank you, Ground Zero.” Her eyes followed his hand as it slid over his swollen tip.
“Bakugou-sama suits your mouth better. Eyes up here,” The edge in his voice hardened. Her eyes raised to his obediently. “Thank me properly if you want me inside now.”
A thrill jolted through her cunt.
Fuck, in her head where her imagination ran wild, he was always the dominating one but witnessing it with her own eyes...Shit, she never knew he could be any more sexier.
“Thank you, Bakugou-sama.” A sultry purr reverberated in her chest as she sighed giddly at the sinful sight the way his leaking arousal was giving away his own needs for her cunt.
Today was probably by far the best day of her life. The sex gods if there were any, were smiling down on her.
“Now, get down onto the floor on all fours.”
Her slick arousal cascaded down her thighs the moment she eagerly set herself on her knees. Her  softly arched back accentuated her ass as her excitement ran through her throbbing walls.
A shuddering chill ran up her spine at the light brush of his cock across her protruding ass as Bakugou planted himself behind her.
His eyes narrowed at the gap between her thighs.
“Is this how you show me your gratitude?” His hand landed on her butt cheek with a harsh slap. She responded to him with a sharp cry as her body jolted.
“Open wider.” A sharp sting rang across her other butt cheeks as another slap landed.
“...And I’ll fuck you like the little slut you are.”
His words sounded so...hot to her ears.
With a shivering whimper, she obeyed, lowering herself with forearms propped shakily on the floor beneath her.
Her butt cheeks spread open as she pushed her thighs apart for him.
His breath shuddered out of him as he watched the quivering threads of her slick fluid stretched, following the widening space between her sopping folds she made from parting herself.
All these...
A strangled groan escaped him.
...for him.
The tight pressure strained in his bulging girth even more. Fuck, he couldn’t wait anymore.
His hand slipped up her arched back and wrapped itself tightly around the end of her long hair, her back arching even more to his firm grip on her, as his other slathered his needy cock over her dripping slit.
The delirious whimper shuddering down to her cunt fanned his carnal ache to shove himself in.
The tightening grip on her hair was her only warning before his hip shot forward. His cock plunged through the pouring flow of her arousal and buried completely into her in one powerful rut.
The bright flash of pleasure searing through the sudden big, wide stretch of her cervix forced a choked moan out of her, hot tears spilling out of her widened eyes at how thick he was.
“Fu-Fuck,” A trembling grunt shook out of his lips as he drew himself back through the walls clamped in a vice-like grip around him. “What a tight little bitch you are-”
His cock rammed in one bruising thrust, shoving an instantaneous sharp cry out of her mouth.
More continued to tumble out of her as he continued to hammer into her, his hand tugging harshly onto her hair like it was his rein.
The other hand in a clutching grip on her hip as his cock drove fiercely through her pulsing walls.
Helpless sobbing moans forced out her mouth at every rough snap of his hip. Her eyes nearly rolled back every time he pounded into her.
A sly grin stretched his panting lips as he thrusted mercilessly into her
“Too much for you?” A slap on her ass drew another cry from her.
Somewhere between his powerful ruts, his hand had left her hair and joined the other on her hip in a harsh grip.
His intense gaze glared into her as she staggered weakly on her shaky arms with giddy whimpers and groans. She was a slobbering mess beneath his towering stance.
“Keep up with me.” A growl ripped through his words as he gave her another slap on her ass.
In the smothering heat ramming between her clenching walls, she was beginning to see white flashes behind her fluttering blinks.
Blazing brighter and brighter as she felt his rushing cock push her fast to the edge. She couldn’t anymore.
It was too...
“Ba-Bakugou-sama!”
A tattered shriek broke her voice as a starburst of electrifying ripple shattered through her shaking body, her orgasm instantly flooding his relentless cock with her rich arousal.
The hiss sifted through his gritted teeth as Bakugou bit back a groan at the hot burst and her rapidly gripping walls that were engulfing him greedily.
Fuck. This was it for him too.
Along with the squeezing tightness around him, the overpowering load in his cock forced the rolls of his hip to grow hectic and furious.
Her fleeting moans joined his breathless groans as he chased his own release with a fervor blazing in his red eyes, ramming hot blistering thrusts into her.
His desperate thrusts were accompanied with slippery, frantic squelches loud enough to mingle with harsh claps of their slapping skin as his hip met with her flushed ass heatedly.
One particularly sharp, powerful thrust forward forced a growling moan shredding through his mouth as his hip snapped into her and buckled erratically.
A loud sultry groan dragged through her throat as she felt the bulging tip of his swollen cock nestle into the deepest part of her with a rough prod.
The hot burst of his thick rich seed spluttering fiercely inside her made her eyes roll back.
The back of his muscular thigh clenched as he held his spurting cock snug inside her, expelling a wavering satisfied sigh.
Her dragging groan ended with a delirious whimper as she relished in the warm fullness inside her, her walls stirring their mixed fluid with fluttering clenches.
One thought ran in her hazy head as she crumbled to the floor, amused and amazed.
That she had done it.
Her dreams came true.
That she had actually fucked one of the hottest men alive.

Chapter 35
The bungalow was surrounded by aged trees, blocking the sunlight year-round. A chill ran through his body as he walked into the building. The faint musty smell and moisture in the air reminded him of a basement filled with children's toys. Lin Yan followed the Zhongshan man into an office with an old-fashioned wooden table. On the table, there was a large stainless steel thermos. The desktop computer occasionally made some buzzing noises. The office was close to the toilet. It didn't take long for the smell of amonia to rush into his nose.
"Sit down, Lin. I'll grab the contact information of the recent archaeologists that were there. It's still locked in the cabinet." The Zhongshan suit man said as he poured Lin Yan a glass of water in a disposable paper cup. "The files on the table are more than 20 years old. They were just transferred out of the archive room. Feel free to look through them."
"Thank you for your help." Lin Yan said politely.
"No, it's no trouble at all. It's great to see young people so active nowadays. We all heard about what happened with the porcelain appraisal. That was really something. Professor Chen wouldn't stop bragging about it when he got back." The Zhongshan suit man chuckled. He placed a bowl of melon in front of Lin Yan then grabbed his key and left.
Lin Yan sat at the table and waited. The office decoration was old but good quality. The real leather swivel chair was comfortable to sit on. The shade of leaves outside the window blocked the sunlight. A sparrow leaped lightly among the branches. It flapped its wings and flew away.
There were a lot of files about the Ming tomb on the table, sorted into vellum envelopes. Lin Yan flipped through them. They included a large amount of background information on the time period, project approval forms, equipment rental statements, reimbursement vouchers, and so on. An envelope labelled 'Staff Information' caught his attention. Lin Yan brushed off the dust and opened the envelope. There were several smaller envelopes inside with labels written in faded ink. The top one was labelled "1987 Shanxi Archaeological Team Payroll", followed by several others, such as rosters, contact information, etc. The bottom one was marked with the word 'important,' written in red, and the label read: List of work-related casualties and compensation details.
Casualties? Lin Yan picked up the envelope. It was very thin. It was almost like there was nothing inside. The glue on the seal had expired and could be opened just by a light tear. The brownish-yellow paper had become hard and brittle after not being handled for a long time. Lin Yan carefully slipped his hand in. The envelope was empty. Only after fumbling inside the envelope for a while did he find a small thin piece of paper. The hand-drawn table lines were smudged at the top. At first glance, he knew that whoever wrote it had drawn it in a rush. The ink hadn't dried before they dragged the ruler across the page.
A series of footsteps echoing in the hallway approached. Lin Yan jumped, instinctively shoving the paper back into the envelope. it took him a second to remember that he had been given permission to go through the documents. The old information always gave him an anxious feeling, like he was intruding. He felt like a thief, fleetingly travelling back in time from modern times.
The footsteps moved further away. Lin Yan carefully examined the paper in his hand. Everything had also been written in pen. The names, reasons for compensation, amount of money compensated and other items were divided into columns. Lin Yan skimmed over the columns, heart bursting with fear
"Li Erzhuang, hand fracture, compensation of 30 yuan for medical expenses, collected and signed for."
"Sun Dapeng, psychosis, compensation for medical expenses of 150 yuan, collected and signed for."
"Wang Aiguo, psychosis, compensation for medical expenses of 150 yuan, collected and signed for."
". . ."
All the remaining reasons for compensation written in after the names were for psychosis, but the diagnosis details are all blank. The signature on the back was pretty crooked, too. Some of the ink was written so lightly that it was barely visible. Back then, villagers weren't very educated and many could only write their names. He glanced at the page filled with awkward handwriting. When he reached the last two lines, the signature column was blank. After a double-take, the column for the reason for compensation was listed as 'dead'.
"Jun Xiangdong, Jiang Ying . . . did these two die?" Lin Yan gulped. He carefully flattened the paper and muttered: "Compensation of one thousand yuan . . . Hey, that's weird, for these two people. How come it's written that their compensation hasn't been claimed? A thousand yuan was considered a huge sum of money in a village at that time . . ."
Lin Yan confusedly opened the envelope containing the staff list. He pulled out a stack of yellowed paper, flipping through each of them. Besides the detailed information of the students sent by the university who participated in the excavation of the Ming Tomb, the rest were locals. Most of the villagers were uneducated. They only filled in their name, age, gender and village name. Lin Yan counted them. There were 13 people in total. The oldest was only 24 years old, and the youngest was only 16 and 17. Eighteen-year-old children make up the majority. Lin Yan recalled what the professor said and let out a sigh. He couldn't imagine what it must have been like for those children to be haunted by illusions and see their friends die in front of them in such a strange way.
It was too much to think about. Lin Yan glanced back at Xiao Yu. The ghost was standing leisurely by the window with his arms crossed, looking at the scenery, as if this had nothing to do with him.
When turning back to Jun Xiangdong and Jiang Ying's forms, Lin Yan was surprised to find that the information left by these two people was almost blank. Compared to the information awkwardly filled in by the other villagers, only their villages and names were listed. Written next to them in black pen were the words "wage uncollected".
Lin Yan stared at the list of villages and frowned. He mumbled: "They're all foreigners? No wonder no one got any money after they died . . ." As he turned over the page of information on the two, there was only one last name at the bottom. The name on this page was Wang Zhong. Similar to Jun Xiangdong and Jiang Ying, there was almost no information is almost blank. He also wasn't a local. Written in big black letters in the upper right-hand corner was: "Wage uncollected".
"Wang Zhong, Wang Zhong . . . This person isn't on the compensation list." Lin Yan glanced through several forms and muttered: "Was he so afraid that he ran away without even getting paid?"
Lin Yan was immersed in a few old documents when, suddenly, the office door squeaked open. Zhongshan suit guy rummaged through the file in his hand as he walked in, muttering to himself: "What's going on . . . "
Hearing his voice, Lin Yan hurriedly put down the files and stood up. Zhongshan suit guy stepped in and waved his hands: "Sit down and sit down. My memory's not what it used to be. Obviously, I put it all away before I went on a business trip. Why can't I find it? "
"What can't you find?"
"Professor Chen said you are looking for the staff roster from the Ming Tomb archaeological expedition in Shanxi. I purposely found it and put it together. The cabinet was opened just now and everything else was there. The fortune-teller's information is the only one that's gone." Zhongshan suit guy shoved everything back into the folder and said to Lin Yan: "Look, everything is numbered. Everyone has one. I filled it out when I joined the team. I kept a copy of it for payroll statistics."
Lin Yan flipped through several forms, each of which was detailed with the staff’s name, ID number, telephone number, address, working hours and position, etc. Indeed, like Zhongshan suit guy said, the number between No. 34 and No. 36 was missing. But the information from the 30th onwards was very brief, some even only listing names and phone numbers. Those people are temporary workers. No. 34 was hired to drive a tractor. No. 36 and 37 were temporary cooks. The form ended on No. 37.
No. 35 should be the mysterious fortune teller.
"This man wasn't part of the team. He came to watch over things with a feng shui compass. He stayed to explain his plan for the excavation then left. He negotiated the price with me and said that he would wait to get paid until his method was proven useful. We had the money ready to go but he never came to get it, otherwise, the financial account would have been recorded."
Everything was done so neatly. Lin Yan stared at the extra space between No. 34 and No. 36 and furrowed his eyebrows. He didn't even want the money? What was he after?
"Please think it over again. Did you take it out before and put it somewhere else?" Lin Yan was a little impatient. "Or did another colleague take it away?"
Zhongshan suit guy rubbed his hands and stroked the key in his hand in confusion: "Impossible. I'm the only one with a key to the cabinet. I had organized everything and locked it in the cabinet before I left on the trip. It was gone as soon as I got back."
Lin Yan's heart skipped a beat. This seemed too coincidental. He glanced back at Xiao Yu. The ghost was staring at the door with furrowed brows and didn't respond to him.
Seeing that Lin Yan's screwed-up expression, Zhongshan suit guy picked up the paper cup on the table and filled it at the water dispenser. He put it back in front of him and comforted him: "It's okay. You sit and drink some water and eat some melon. I'll keep looking for it. I remember when that man first came and spoke in a mysterious way, no one believed him. He left a phone number and address, saying we would definitely have to call him again. And he was right."
"Where did I put it . . ." Zhongshan suit guy talked to himself while fiddling around in the office. Lin Yan wanted to help but was pushed back into the chair. He was forced to stare at the desktop screen saver. A bright, shimmering mass of lines shifted on a black background. Green, red, and blue lines slowly changing, becoming larger and smaller, rolling into a big mess. He couldn't make sense of it.
"Today isn't a good time. If you come at another time, you could ask someone else. Actually, today is our day off so the whole building is empty. I'm the only one who came here for a reason."
Lin Yan smiled embarrassedly: "That's too much trouble for you." Then a thought struck him and he casually mentioned: "There are still people here. I just heard footsteps in the hallway. They just passed by but didn't come in."
Zhongshan suit guy was washing his hands in the washbasin by the door but abruptly stopped when he heard this and looked up: "Impossible. There's no one in the building but flies. There are only three offices, I just checked them and no one's there."
Lin Yan took a sharp breath. He looked towards the dark corridor in the doorway and suddenly felt an ominous feeling.
Maybe it was just him passing by to check the information, Lin Yan reassured himself. When the sun changed its angle, a few loose beams of light penetrated into the room through the gaps in the leaves. The soft yellow light peaked in. The dust dancing in the light fell onto the dark brown tabletop. Beams jutting to the side illuminated a cactus that had been watered too much, its petals hanging down limply.
"Hey, I remember, wait a second." A hint of excitement flashed through Zhongshan suit guy's voice. In the lower part of the glass cabinet, he pulled out an old jacket and searched through the pockets. He fished out a crumpled note from a small pocket in the lining. He fumbled with the crumbled note, studied it over, muttering: "Right, right, this is it."
Zhongshan suit guy slapped the note down in front of Lin Yan's eyes: "The address and phone number."
Lin Yan's expression relaxed.
By noon, the weather was getting hot. Zhongshan suit guy turned on the fan. The buzzing of the fan blades and the rustling of the papers being blown rang out incessantly. Lin Yan put the phone up to his ear and held a pen in his other hand, scribbling on a notepad, the tip of the pen trembling slightly because of the anticipation.
"Beep . . . beep . . ."
". . . The number you have called is temporarily unavailable."
The voice of the phone message came four times in a row. Lin Yan and Zhongshan suit guy exchanged a glance. He dropped the receiver and languidly stretched. Looking at the lower part of the note, the address handwritten in pencil looks familiar. Where had he seen it? Lin Yan tugged at his collar. He wanted to unbutton it to get some air, but he suddenly remembered the string of hickeys on his neck and he hurriedly buttoned it back to the top.
There was a splash of water from the water dispenser, followed by a series of gurgling noises. A thought flashed through his mind. Lin Yan froze in place with his cup in his hand, like the solution had smacked into his brain like a hammer strike.
"Mr. Chen, what does the fortune teller you mentioned look like?"
Zhongshan suit guy thought for a moment and recalled: "It's been a long time so I don't remember clearly. He looked like he was in his 40s or 50s. He's about the same height as me, and his hair is very short."
Lin Yan gulped and entered the address into his phone's GPS. The green route map was displayed, extending all the way to the northwest.
That's it. Lin Yan stared at the red dot indicating the destination in the upper left corner and quietly thought to himself: I found you, temple master.

How to choose bathroom accessories
Tumblr media
Bathroom accessories are essential and for daily use. There are wooden, plastic or stainless steel accessories and some are simply attached while others must be attached to the wall. You will find them in all styles and prices. Join us on this walk between tiles!
What are the different types of bathroom accessories
There are many accessories for the bathroom that can, among other things, equip a sink, a vanity, a shower , a bathtub or a toilet. They should be chosen based on your needs but also based on style.
Tumblr media
These types of accessories, which range from a simple soap dish to a telescopic magnifying mirror , are divided into two different groups: the rim bathroom accessories and the bathroom accessories for fixing or hanging.
Bathroom rim accessories
The rim bathroom accessories are practical because you can move them around and do not require the use of any tools for their installation. There are numerous accessories in this group: soap dish , toothbrush holder , bathroom trash can , mat , laundry basket, soap dispenser, bathtub floor mat , cotton boxes, brush holder, etc. You must choose its style and size based on the number of users and the color of the bathroom. They are easily replaceable and are an integral part of the decoration. Since they occupy the surface (they can go on the floor, on the toilet, etc.) they are not recommended in very small bathrooms and require more frequent cleaning.
Bathroom accessories with fixing
Some surface mounted accessories such as soap dispensers, soap dishes or toothbrush holders are also sold to be wall mounted. Other accessories are always fixed: toilet paper dispensers, towel racks and storage shelves.
Tumblr media
The bathroom accessories to be fixed are more practical and have a longer useful life due to their fixed installation , since their wear is reduced. The materials can also be of a different nature: plastic, glass, aluminum, stainless steel , etc. To be able to fix this type of accessories, it is necessary to use a drill and very often, it is necessary to break the bathroom tile and choose the plugs well .
Some bathroom accessories to fix such as towel hooks, shower soap dishes or sponge holders are fixed with  suction cups and others are hung, (because it is not recommended that they be used with very heavy objects).
Style and materials of bathroom accessories
Tumblr media
Roughly speaking, there are as many styles for bathroom accessories as there are bathrooms. In order to match each style, the choice of stylish bathroom accessories and materials is paramount.
Bathroom accessory styles
The style of bathroom accessories is marked by their shape but also by the nature of their materials.
Contemporary or designer style: plastic, ceramic, glass, resin or stainless steel accessories; simple and clean shapes.
Classic or Zen style: ceramic, wood or stone; simple, round and rounded geometric shapes.
Retro or romantic style: glass, iron, porcelain, enameled steel; structured and detailed shapes, with moldings, ovals and combination of materials.
Bathroom accessory materials
Materials are often determined by the style of the accessories. It is difficult to find plastic accessories in a bathroom with a retro or romantic touch, for example. Accessories can be:
ceramic , glass or porcelain, in which case they are fragile and easy to maintain; wood or stone , and therefore they are more solid and difficult to clean; enameled iron or steel and are resistant and easy to clean.
Tumblr media
Whatever the material or the type of cleaning, it is absolutely necessary to use a suitable product that is not aggressive to the material, but disinfectant.
What accessories go around a sink
From soap dispenser to toothbrush holder
Bathroom accessories are sold individually or as a kit . Depending on the use for which they are intended, it is common to find kits that include:
liquid soap dispenser;
glass for toothbrushes;
cup or cup holder;
soap holder.
Hooks, towel racks, shelves, baskets and toilet brush are placed around the sink and garbage cans should be close. Magnifying mirrors can be manual or fixed, in which case they are adjustable and can also be telescopic.

Previous Chapter
You feel an immediate shock the next morning when Jongdae shows the photo of Naomi’s hand. The hand was covered with rashes and minor cracks with dried blood spots topping scratch lines. During the drive to the clinic, your daughter wouldn’t stop scratching as she was half asleep. Jongdae opens the entrance door for you carrying Naomi and the front desk women say their greeting. You pass your daughter over to your husband, and he gently lies Naomi over the chairs, removing his coat to cover her, and confirms that you would watch over her while he uses the restroom.
You fill out the patient check-in paperwork until a sudden thud and deafening cries ring around the room. Naomi was sprawling over the ground flat against her back screaming out painful cries.
You immediately flew to the ground and lifted her off with your arms. Jongdae bursts out the family restroom and once he sees his daughter with a red face, wailing, and crying, he rushes over to the chairs. This very fear of your daughter being harmed since pregnancy made you feel anxious and guilt that you couldn’t catch her in time. You whisper promises into her crown that you have her and how she was okay while rocking back and forth in the chair.
Your husband begins rubbing her back and head. He pecks kisses over the toddler before asking what had just happened. When you told him that she fell off, his eyebrows furrowed immediately.
“You said you would watch her.” He said sternly. “She wouldn’t have fallen off if I didn’t use the restroom then. What in the world were you doing?”
“Well, you should’ve gone before we left,” You sassed, placing another kiss over your daughter’s head “I had to check her in for an appointment.” Naomi stops sobbing, officially wide awake with her face was still red overall and streams staining her cheeks, making sniffs through her button nose. She uses the fabric of your shirt to wipe herself from her tears as Jongdae stops caressing her.
Some static sounds brought your eyes to wherever the static flows through your ears until you watch your husband insert a peppermint candy into Naomi’s mouth. You dislike children receiving candy first thing in the morning, especially toddlers. It wasn’t the time to stop Jongdae, and the bright side was that Naomi had stopped crying.
She reaches herself out toward Jongdae for him to take her. He takes her after sliding closer until your knees touch. She was always the greatest gift you ever conceived. He keeps his noggin off Naomi and without a word, the two of you stay together watching your daughter while she watches the movie.
Since the other night when you and Jongdae made an agreement to work regular hours, provided the favor spending a quality amount of time together was working decently, and surprise calls from your daughter asking when you two would arrive home. Thankfully bill prices have been lowered due to using utilities responsibly; however, the mortgage for the house remains the same.
However, Jongdae hasn’t had his phone ring nonstop for forever such as how much the device has been ringing this morning. Naomi wiggles out from Jongdae’s lap, the boredom of the movie and runs through the waiting room to a water fountain. She doesn’t care for the button that dispenses water and instead grabs the sleeve of paper cups.
Jongdae pulls his phone out from his pocket while you finish filling out the paperwork. While you sit beside him, whoever your husband was speaking to sounded like they were yelling. They probably are since you can almost hear what they are saying and the way your husband is reacting
He stands from the chair. “Honey, I have to go.”
He kisses you on the head, unseeing how baffled you are by this sudden goodbye. Months prior there were issues with paying two coverages for two vehicles. Then Jongdae took the option for having his car towed which now leaves the family with only one car. One car wasn’t bad if there was a plan on how to get around. But, if Jongdae leaves right now, then you and Naomi can’t get home. You can’t visit the pharmacy for medicine without the vehicle.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to work,” He said, swinging his coat on as he parted his lips. You just arrived at the clinic, for what reason should he leave right now? This made you raise your eyelids with surprise because the company shouldn’t open until another hour.
“But, your shift starts at nine.” The reception nurse retrieves the papers and clipboard along with the ink pen.
Jongdae sighs, “I know.”
When he asks for the keys, you notice his brows are quirked upwards and the worry within his gaze. Jongdae rarely makes his expressions like the way he is making them now. Just seeing him that way, your looks reflected your husbands’ except your lips are formed into circular shape opposing to his purse ones. “Babe, what’s wrong?”
Jongdae said that he needed to use the restroom, but he must’ve used that as an excuse to answer the phone. There was nothing wrong with responding anymore after these past months. “Nothing.”
That rose a brow. “What do you mean ‘nothing’?”
“Nothing happened. But I have to go.”
Nothing has ever been hidden from each other especially from the workplace, and Jongdae wasn’t the very best from lying. He disliked hearing lies as much as you, and he promised with his vows that as a husband and father, he would never keep anything from you. For as long as you know Jongdae, once his problems were indeed resolved, his chest became a dis-inflated balloon releasing air. If he doesn’t precisely know what was occurring in the company, he wouldn’t be frantic about leaving.
“Jongdae, I know you,” you said, concerned and able to see him anxious. The problem must be a grave one where your home could be taken away at one point, making you wonder if it would be that fruitful. The company might disperse forever, and if Jongdae weren’t hired for another job soon, the down payment for the house would be harder. You were afraid of losing the home, fearful about providing for Naomi, but mostly for your husband. Because what if the business was swimming but has a problem with Jongdae for whatever reason? Will he be able to take getting fired and keep his head above the clouds?
You could ask and offer the position on working together and still be a family with few worries. Why would Jongdae be fired though, he was admired for by his boss. When you met his coworkers, they were venting about Jongdae and his exuberant affection around their floor. Listening to positive characteristics about your husband made you smile. “Don’t lie to me.”
“Y/N nobody said they’re lying.” He squints his eyes. His hand was hovering mid-air before him, waiting for the car keys, but you don’t hand them out to him. You keep them hooked onto your fingers.
“You look depressed though,” you said, “Are you sure nothing happened?”
“Yes!” He exclaims. The volume in his voice rose slightly although the attempts on convincing yourself that you were exaggerating, the reception nurses seemed to notice also. You were feeling apprehensive and tense from his risen volume where booms around the empty clinic room. You were taken aback with how Jongdae answered and the way he rolled his eyes at you.
“I’m not depressed either.” He says. You backed your upper body, Jongdae whines often but he always keeps his attitude positive that made him somewhat amusing. Admittedly that was one of your favorite traits about him.
However the crummy behavior today consists an annoyed snap out his throat, his hands clawing, and scrunched eyebrows is as rare as Jongdae having crummy behavior in general. “Don’t bring random shit out of the blue.”
“Babe, why are you yelling? I’m right in front of you.”
You look like something had just been snatched from your hands. Your husband's phone starts ringing again which grasps your hearing but probably not Jongdae since he cannot hear.
“Y/N the company needs me urgently.” The room feels like being stranded in an abandoned building in the middle of the largest desert. The concerns for how you would get out from the land of nowhere being for what will happen to your husband. The frustration for the longer staying in nowhere without figures getting out for how Jongdae feels the rush to leave, taking that out on you. Nobody else around and nothing around except dirt valleys. “I’m trying to leave, but you don’t seem to allow that.”
“Well, what happened at work?” Your husband certainly doesn’t see the concern for him, or he chooses not to see them. The phone jingle tune turns on inside his blazer pocket with the keys jingling against your fingers moving back and forth. Jongdae stood several inches and three feet apart from you, turning his head away, inhaling through his nose. Is he trying to relax his temper? While he thinks he’s hiding it, you can see his clenched jaw and eyes closed lashes over his cheekbones. “I’m worried about the boss firing you, but you’re telling me that nothing is wrong when clearly something is.”
He turns around again, “Y/N, it’s none of your business!”
This argument contained zero physical harm but certainly provided the feeling of your heart squeezing like a lime slice. Indeed included nothing insane like your husband slapping you, or you slapping him however your mouth dangles wide open. Now showing off the same frustrating features off Jongdae and standing off the seat. The worries disperse into smoke clouds, nausea spreading around your stomach, paper-thin sweat and an itch ghosting the base of your neck. That was the borderline of your’s and Jongdae’s patience.
Your nostrils flared before starting again. “How-“
Suddenly some paper cups appear flying out from nowhere hitting the chairs between you and Jongdae. The popping sounds successfully put the arguing onto halt once you saw them. They bounced off the chair and stopped between your feet as both of you turn to see wherever the cups came from the spot where your daughter Naomi is staring toward you. She has about four more paper cups in one hand while standing behind a nurse who stood underneath an open door, wearing a polite smile that seems forced, with her naturally frizzy hair tied back into a tail. Naomi creeps closer to the door where the nurse looks toward the reception nurses hiding their faces below and away from the front counter. The argument became louder than thought until you couldn’t hear the nurse’s call.
“Mister and Missus Kim.”
She wore dinosaur printed scrub shirt and dark blue scrub bottoms and a stethoscope around her neck. You bite down your bottom lip before helping Jongdae pick the cups off the ground and tossing them into the trash bin. She shakes both your hands and introduces herself as Nurse Terri. Naomi leaves, placing the paper cups she held back over the refreshment table while returning the favor until Jongdae’s phone begins ringing again. After releasing the nurse’s hand, he pulls out the phone, checking the caller ID and as expected he excuses himself and answers. You rolled your eyes while shaking your head without thinking to stop him. “I’m sorry about my husband.”
“No worries, I live with someone similar.”  A corner of your lip tugs upward then your daughter begins hitting the nurse with her endless curiosity about the dinosaur print scrubs. Three months past your daughter had an obsession for anything related to Hawaii, but now her newest passion became dinosaurs. She names each versatile picture that she points out and then asking your daughter which one was her favorite and Naomi pointed her small little finger to her Father. She calls Jongdae as “him,” but you correct her that she should call your husband “Daddy” but a smile stretching over you.
Over the shoulder, Jongdae was still speaking into the phone about the appointment he made and if the company might be able to wait for him. If the nurses and Naomi have to wait any longer for you and your husband, the morning would suddenly become the afternoon. You turn around, arms crossed and releasing out an exhausted sigh.
His eyebrows knitted and question marks whirling around him then he whips his head with his shoulders jumping until he realizes you are touching his wrist. He lowers the phone below his ear, staring at you with the worried brown eyes, assuming that something will stir again. “Go ahead Dae. We’ll catch a cab.”
His eyebrows rise in surprise and his lips shaping into a circle. This was his opportunity to leave and begin work early to find what was going to happen.
“Papa!”
Jongdae sees Naomi standing bored within the hall corridor that leads into the patient rooms waiting for him and surprises you when he ends the call and hides the phone away. "I'll call in late."
                                  ——————————————
Throughout the appointment, you discover that Naomi became diagnosed with eczema. Eczema causes her skin to dehydrate, crack, itch, rash, and all of that spreads everywhere. It’s not contagious nor curable but can be treated. You both also found out that she has several allergic reactions to pollen, cedar, eggs, and tree nuts.
Before leaving Jongdae outside the company, neither one thought of saying a word to each other and also because of earlier. You don’t hold his hand like always because his hands gripped the steering wheel. After saying goodbye with hugs, it felt like he didn’t want yours either.
Your daughter watches the prescription ointment swirls fade onto the reddest parts of her skin, ”Smells like fruitcake!” she said while plugging her nose.
You look at her amused. “How do you know that princess?”
She inherits her buttoned nose from both parents and the whining from her dad, but only because she is a toddler. How Naomi behaves would suggest how she will grow up to become a young lady. Regardless of who she will be and what she wants to become, she was your daughter although the way she currently is would be excellent in the future. “Grandma said fruitcake is yucky.”
The temperature rose high now warmer than a few hours ago but the new restaurant-the one where you missed the date with Jongdae-keeps their propane torches burning. Outside you see Jongdae’s assistant employee, Jisoo waving from her chair and Naomi greets her with a hug.
“Hey sweetheart,” Jisoo was wearing active sports clothing and seemed to have already ordered judging by the green smoothie over the metal table. “How was the appointment?”
“It was all right,” you said, “We didn’t take long did we?”
Jisoo shakes her head, insisting that she barely arrived at the restaurant.
“You really liked that smoothie.” You said puzzled, glancing between her and the half empty cup. Jisoo started her diet before meeting her, and after the first taste of green smoothies, they weren’t her favorite.
She chuckles, “You know me, I asked for a pinch of cinnamon.”
You never met Jongdae’s assistant workers before even though he talked about them, and how meeting Jisoo happened was an evening trip to the supermarket. You and Jongdae were deciding which toilet paper package you should choose, and for only one minute, Naomi disappears from the aisle.
Thankfully she was roaming inside the next aisle stacked with beverages and candies. She bent down to grab gummy worms and places them inside a strange woman’s basket. The shopper turned around without moving from the spot, knelt down. She gives out a flustered laugh until you called out your daughter and she trots away from the person to you.
You apologized while giving out a flustered laugh until the woman comments about how your great it was finally meeting your daughter and you. She extended her arm, quite hesitant about the offered handshake, introducing herself as an employee for the company and how she knew you. One minute turned like an hour passed speaking with the woman who was Jongdae’s coworker and suddenly became an acquaintance after exchanging numbers.
Her chubby cheeks cooperated with her heart-shaped face. Her hair was a silver blonde ombré, tied back into a curled ponytail and long and dark eyelashes that you admire.
Jisoo raises the straw to her lip, asking about your family’s wellness, leaning against her arm. She was now the third person learning about your child having eczema while reading the ingredients under every menu option immensely. You explain her newfound allergies how she needs to drink her allergy medicine every morning too.
Your daughter lowered herself down off the chair, moving close, resting her head above your thighs, wrapping your knees with her arm. You ran fingers through her hair, feeling touched by her loving affection until she sees other children playing with some blocks over at the children area.
Naomi’s bubbly-ness adds much to her extrovert behavior. She gives interest in varied activities and favors whoever was playing with her, and wishes to meet them again someday. Some children were pretending to work in a restaurant and while Naomi attracts toward the plastic medical tools.
She doesn’t seem bothered about her condition, and neither are the other children, except, her skin was covered from the head down, and the cracks are light. “Poor baby.”
There was a pregnant woman outside sitting at the other end of the patio wearing thick wool cardigan and scarf, thickly covered, you could hardly notice the womb, but Naomi stood before the woman.
“How’s Jongdae?” She asks.
An instant reaction became dropping the teaspoon, an eye roll, and a deep sigh. You explain the concerns and your husband in a calming mindset which increases into venting about the argument at the clinic and the sentences your husband said that threw you over the edge.
The memories from the sudden outburst to paper cups aiming between you rumbling out your lips. It was ridiculous how being worried about someone who matters with the entire heart starts yelling as if you insulted Jongdae for trying to leave for work. The sentence ‘none of your business’ replaying brought steam huffing out the nose, a wave formed into your chest. Jongdae never said anything similar at all, and you’ve had frustrating moments as every couple and marriage.
Those moments have been resolved and forgotten, and neither of you said anything overboard until today, just thinking about what Jongdae said feels like a wound breaking open. Feeling more like skin getting a sliced wound. Your brain fueling with toxic emotions enough for your veins to become near visible. It seems a little extreme for such a mood, the best medicine you need was yelling.
You didn’t realize how much anger was returning until Jisoo grabs you by the wrist. She repeats the words calm down, trying to cut every sentence, and suggesting a sip of tea. She pleads for you to take deep breaths after drinking. You feel the muscles in your upper body stretch out from them flexing, without even realizing they were flexed. Your brows lowered down right above the eyes, and the air feels chill again.
Jisoo cracks her smile, still holding your wrist. “You know how snakes extend their body and hiss to scare their predators?”
The warm tea pooled inside your cheeks before falling down your throat, relaxing the heated knot in your esophagus. You nodded, thankfully Jisoo stopped the venting before the volume in your voice would grow higher in case you aren’t loud enough. “I think that perfectly resembles your anger just now.”
Miraculously, the exasperation became replaced with giggling before taking another sip of tea. You glance around the patio for Naomi whose now pretending to be a doctor, using the plastic stethoscope and checking the pregnant woman for a heartbeat. The tea was blowing the steam out.
“Look Y/N, Jongdae will think about the argument and later come around his senses.” Her hair floated around her shoulders with the wind blowing gently, making the air slightly colder. Her French manicured hand slaps back above your smooth, natural nailed hand as she smiles at you. “Has he ever gone way over his head before?”
Your husband and yourself have fought ever since living together as dating roommates, during your first Christmas that the white bulbs better than the colored ones. Arguing topics such as home decorating, spending too much money on something, and pretty much anything that resolves into disputes never was enough to stay mad at each other.
“Take one problem similar with Steph and me,” Jisoo continues, “When I told him I wouldn’t be present for his promotion because of some huge knot in my hair, he had gotten upset. He has been ignoring my calls, and I went off on him while he was at work.”
You listen onto her story while picking loose flakes off the croissant and glancing over your daughter. Eventually, Jisoo and her current partner realize both were in the wrong for ignoring each other and admitting fear of embarrassing him for the knot.
“I ended up being embarrassed after my brother Kyungsoo stroked my hair and the extension clipped off revealing my bald spot where the knot used to be.”
Maybe Jongdae will think about the things he said and feel some guilt for raising his voice. That he would realize that you were only concerned. Even when nobody deserves blame, he would surprise you with daisies. Jongdae was never one who brings problems back from the past nor holds grudges because he hates feuding with people close to him especially when the feuds were with you, his wife.
“What if he doesn’t?” You looked aside, pursing your lips thin. Not looking toward Jisoo nor Naomi. “What will I do if the argument flew out his memory?”
Jisoo gives your wrist the softest squeeze, “He’s your husband isn’t he?” You turn around, and you see her smirk. “You know him more than anybody, and he knows you more than anybody. Did you ever have doubt about each other?”
“No,” You say instantly, “of course not!”
Not once for halfway almost twenty years. If anybody asked, Jongdae is the one for you.
                                      ——————————
Naomi plasters her hands against the window, watching dozens of bodies exiting the building. You hold her carefully by her cushion bottom, watching over her shoulder. With the confidence for Jongdae, provided some sheet of doubt. What if the situation occurring at work was supposed to be kept as private?
Maybe that was why Jongdae said that nothing happened because he wasn’t allowed to talk about whether he was keeping the job or not. The more you thought the morning over, the more you realize how you were pushing Jongdae by asking him over and over. You insisted that repeating the question would have him answer, but instead, he lost his patience. Would he want to talk with you about his day?
Would he be calmed and accept affection from you once he exits? Jongdae doesn’t hold grudges and he can’t since you live together both inside a house and each other’s life.
Jongdae carries the title as the best husband and most amazing out of all men long before proposing. Admittingly, you never thought true love existed until that night when you trash talked him about his phone. Then wanted to prove your judgment wrong and asked for your number. “There’s Daddy!”
Your head lifts higher where you see your husband walking through the revolving glass door. The change from his neat self rose your eyebrows had his sleeves rolled above his arms and his lips downturn into such seriousness. The blazer he wore in the morning was missing, and his book bag strap dragged onto the ground.
Naomi jumps out the car, running away and throws her arms above her head in expectation of being carried. But Jongdae bends down and wraps his arms around his daughter as others walk around them like avoiding a force field. He held her around the middle, resting his hand behind her head and hiding his face.
They walked side to side where you meet them outside, stretching your arms to pull your husband into another embrace. Instead once Jongdae sees you, he ignores the open arms and places his over your cheek. His lip corners downturned with exhales and his smile eyes hidden behind his lowered lids and hair slicked back like his fingers ran through the strands numerous times. He looks exhausted.
Jongdae buckles Naomi into the car seat beside plastic grocery bags. He stops his movements and smiles party when you see him in the visor mirror where your daughter strokes the hair beside his temple. She says, “Papa, it’s cold.”
The buckle clicks. “I know baby.”
“Where’s your jacket?” You paid attention to the scenario in the backseat, knitting your brows again from the affection of Naomi. “Put it on pease.”
You always wanted to be good parents and raise your children with full hearts. What did you both do to deserve such a daughter?
Jongdae plants a quick kiss on her forehead before closing the door, quieter than expected. He sat in the driver seat, and you look down his arm considering to hold his hand, but you hesitated. “Y/N,” he begins.
“Hm?” Jongdae keeps his head toward the building occupying the expanded space in front as you stare at his side profile, searching for some sort of sign in his eyes. His face straight, knitting his brows twice, and biting his tongue, holding the steering wheel tight rather than your hand and his adam’s apple bobbing up and down. While waiting for something the hints over his facial expression increase the concerns into insecurity with Jongdae keeping his job.
“I’m going to start working early tomorrow.”
You blink and gape your mouth. “Oh.”
He doesn’t speak another word while you continue telling yourself that everything is fine, that everything is alright. You inhale your scent off the knuckles beneath the nose while turning toward the window. Maybe it wasn’t the right moment to mention the argument, so you stay quiet.
There’s a sudden tap over your knee being Jongdae’s hand. He keeps his eyes open for the road while you turn to him again. “Yeah.”
                                          ____________________
The worst possibilities that every company faces are crashing and becoming removed from the business. Hundreds of employees and the leaders losing their job without any idea of what will happen to them next. Anxious until they cry and throw tantrums about what to do, where to go, and pushing themselves with finding another suitable well-paying career fast.
The minute he called you after dropping him off ten minutes ago, you felt sick to your stomach. The anxiety was tapping upon your shoulders once again. The minute he walked out the building carrying a cardboard box filled with his belongings, you began breaking down in tears.
Once Jongdae sees you, he dropped the box on the concrete and held you within his arms. Then while you wrap your arms around him, you muffled an apology though he didn’t hear. You wanted to blame yourself for not pushing him to leave the clinic, but he said that no one deserves blame. The car serving for a circular stone wall, blocking curious gazing, winter seeping through the closed doors, hiccups muffled, soaking each other’s shoulders. Including the most extended embrace ever in almost twenty years together with emotions of despair.
Jongdae sobbed into your ear for what feels like the entire morning. Catching and wiping away each other’s tears with your hands while seated inside the car. It was also Naomi’s first day of school, and thankfully she was meeting and possibly already making friends instead of seeing the emotional breakdown. You stayed parked outside the building for another five minutes dropping tears onto each other’s shoulder. Finally, Jongdae calms the sobs and reclines the passenger seat to rest his head against the leather.
With another hour before work, you thought about how to lift the moment somehow. The restaurant that both of you dined when you were both newlyweds welcomed you back and asked about what has been happening. You both disguise the devastation with fatigued smiles to talk about your daughter. The employees who remember you rejoice over her slight transformation from two months old into four years. Both you and Jongdae follow the waitress hand in hand.
The atmosphere around the restaurant felt somewhat relaxing with the inclusion of Jongdae’s hand beneath yours. Your faces direct toward each other, but your eyes focus on his hand while he focuses on the painted teal wall. His eyes were still forcing tears within making them shine despite being bloodshot. his nose cleansed, and he felt depressed for what just happened, and so were you. Then he mumbles apologies under his breath for failing to keep his job as promised very long ago, raising hopes of steadiness, and for making a scene at the clinic.
The more mutters apologies, the more broken arrows stab through your heart, and he stops after you tell him that he was alright. You tell him that he is fine. The waitress brought the drinks you both ordered when you drag the glass closer beside, you realize that your husband ordered coffee. Seeing Jongdae order coffee was amusing because when you first dated Jongdae, he never liked drinking coffee. Just like he never enjoyed any bitter disputes between you both.
For the rest of the day, you couldn’t stop thinking about Jongdae and what will happen now, and if he was already searching for a new career again. He stayed home while you would work until he would come back and wait outside with your daughter standing beside him. You were exhausted from training newcomers and overthinking what solutions would work for Jongdae to get back on his feet. Naomi exuberates about her classmates and teacher-who she already considers her best friend-while you spare looks toward Jongdae smiling at your daughter.
That same evening at home rather than instantly job searching on his laptop, the three of you slouch over your bed watching a holiday movie with some milk and cookies.
Your head was stuck over Jongdae’s shoulder while he snoozes, admiring his eyelashes, smooth skin, with the two moles on his temple and the way his lips parted. While looking at him, you squeeze your husband’s hand. “No matter what you do, I will always support you. The same way I have all these years.”
