India has a stunning variety of unique avian life. Wildlife SOS photographer Akash Dolas usually brings us breathtaking leopard rescue images, but he also sees the huge biodiversity of the Western Ghat mountains of Maharashtra near our Leopard Rescue Centre. Akash photographed the moment this paradise flycatcher took flight, with an intense stare and a whip of its exquisite tail feathers.

August 18, 2023 - Rufous Paradise-Flycatcher or Cinnamon Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone cinnamomea) Found in the Philippines and parts of northern Indonesia, these monarchs live in lowland and foothill forests. Foraging alone, in pairs, or in mixed-species flocks, they feed on insects, capturing their prey in short flights. They build neat cup-shaped nests in forked branches from materials including plant fibers, moss, and probably spiderwebs and lichen.

the japanese paradise-flycatcher is a passerine bird distributed throughout southeast asia. this bird is known for their long, glossy ornamental tail feathers; only males have this flowing plumage, while females have shorter tails. females are also more chestnut-brown in coloration. these birds can also be distinguished by their bright blue eye rings. as their name implies, these birds are mainly insectivorous and catch their meals in flight. these birds are found in forest habitats, and have been suffering from population declines due to severe habitat loss.
