Last song I listened to: That depends: one that I chose, or one that I heard? Because I was in a cafe in Paris this afternoon that started playing “You Sexy Thing” on the soundsystem and almost did a spit-take with my latte. In terms of something I chose, I just put on Patrick Wolf’s “Teignmouth” (the Sundark and Riverlight version) before sitting down to answer these questions because I refused to have that song be my answer. :D

Currently Watching: Getting close(ish) to finishing some group watches of Luoyang and rewatched of Destined and The Untamed, and about to start a watchalong of Immortal Samsara with @eirenical, and on my own I started watching Legend of Shenli and In Blossom, which I put on hold because of travel (and wanting to spend my spare time writing).

Currently obsessed with: It’s still Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and that’s not changing any time soon. :D (it better not, at least! I’m almost 50k into writing what will probably be around a 100k fic for it, so I better keep with this hyperfixation for awhile, lol). I’m still regularly checking AO3 for my other favorite fandoms, but MLC hasn’t left a lot of brain space for other things.

Last song I listened to: I rarely know what music I feel like and just hit shuffle and hope for the best. The last song I can remember consciously choosing recently was Element of Crime - Wann kommt der Wind, which is prime "gazing pensively out the window in the rain" material (cf:this poll), and also great for spontaenously solo-waltzing in the kitchen when I meant to be cooking (ADHD-who?).

Currently watching: I usually have one c-drama on the go at any time, and currently it's The Wind Blows from Longxi - a gritty spy drama, because before that it was New Life Begins and I like alternating pastel-coloured romance type dramas with the more serious stuff and this one was on my list because it uses a set from A League of Nobleman that I was hoping to catch more glimpses of. Also: Leverage Redemption (though currently paused, because I only have two episodes left 😥 and I want to make it last), Ronja the Robber's Daughter, Ted Lasso rewatch, Ragnarok.

Currently obsessed with: Still anything MXTX, so mainly MDZS with a side of SVSSS and a sprinkle of TGCF. Also the layout of Siwencao in Wind Blows from Longxi, because it is apparently my fate to be tricked into watching a show for a specific set and getting distracted by a new set from that show instead (also happened with Osmanthus Lane from A Dream of Splendor which I watched for the SAME SET FROM League of Nobleman! *sigh*

Last song I listened to: I had to drive across town earlier today; I just checked the playlist and the station I was listening to played Sting’s “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” just before I got home. The last thing I listened to on purpose was Joji’s “Slow Dancing in the Dark,” while I was drawing a couple of days ago.

Currently watching: nothing has caught my interest. Several of my mutuals are doing KP 2nd anniversary rewatches, and part of me really wants to join them… but another part of me can’t? Isn’t ready? Has complicated feelings? So far, I haven’t started.

Currently obsessed with: I hyperfixate. If you do too, you know it comes when it wants and goes when it wants, no matter how inconvenient, problematic, stressful, etc., the coming, the staying, and/or the going may be. 😂 Right now, still reading vegaspete and still drawing Biu. Tomorrow? Who knows?

I actually started out writing an entirely different thing with wenzhou in disguise imitating each other but the Vibes weren't quite right for the prompt, so maybe it'll get repurposed one day? 😅

3. They're doing something stupid, and somehow, you find yourself thinking that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with

Han Ying hears them before he sees them – and by them, what he means is two pairs of running feet and Wen Kexing’s deafening shrieks.

“Mercy! Mercy!” he’s crying.

“Admit defeat then!” Zhou Zishu barks back.

“Never!” is Wen Kexing’s predictable response.

Han Ying has no idea what they are ‘fighting’ about this time, or if they’re playing by the usual stakes. But this level of dramatics is par for the course, so he only shakes his head with a fond smile and continues his work, gathering the latest produce of Siji’s modest vegetable patch. The whole garden is still a work in progress, but every now and then there’s something nice to bring back to the kitchens, and it’s always incorporated into the day’s dinner.

As Han Ying rights himself and brushes the dirt off his robes, a disheveled Wen Kexing appears in his field of vision, running towards Han Ying at full speed.

“Ying’er! Catch me!”

Han Ying has to make a decision fast, and he regrettably drops the vegetables to hold up the ridiculous man who launches himself at Han Ying, jumping and wrapping both his legs around Han Ying’s waist.

Han Ying huffs a little and adjusts his grip. “Can I help you?”

“Protect me,” Wen Kexing implores, clinging to Han Ying. “My husband is a brute, you must defend me.”

Han Ying snorts. By that time Zhou Zishu has reached them too, and he watches the scene from a couple of feet away with an unimpressed look. He meets Han Ying’s eye and raises an eyebrow in a silent question.

“You’re the one who married him,” Han Ying points out wryly. “I don’t see why I should help you.”

Wen Kexing whines pitifully. “I’ve condemned myself to a lifetime of cruel mistreatment.”

A lifetime.

Han Ying starts to laugh, but it dies in his throat as the words truly register. A lifetime of this.

A lifetime of – getting roped into these ridiculous fights, a lifetime of this everyday intimacy, a lifetime of witnessing the love Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu share and receiving so much of it himself.

Han Ying’s heart thuds. He wants it so much he feels delirious.

“And what is my thanks if I protect you, hm?” he asks back, tone lower and softer than he’d intended.

Wen Kexing tilts his head in deliberation, then whispers an answer in Han Ying’s ear that makes him flush down to his neck.

“Well,” Han Ying says with a grin. “I would have settled for your eternal gratitude, but I’m not going to turn that down.”

“I thought you’d know better than to throw your lot in with this idiot, Ying’er,” Zhou Zishu says with a sigh of mock-disappointment.

Han Ying deposits Wen Kexing on the ground but keeps a firm arm around his waist, and gives Zhou Zishu his best challenging look. “Sorry, Zishu-ge. I guess if you want him, you’ll have to get through me.”

Zhou Zishu shrugs. “Fine. You’ll both get what’s coming to you.”

Despite his stern tone, it sounds like a promise.

I get to have this, Han Ying thinks in wonder.

Currently reading: Not reading anything at the moment, actually. I had an absolutely insane book devouring month last month, I’m taking a break for new show hyperfixation at the moment haha. But the last book I read was the first part of the official Guardian translation that just came out!

Currently working on: No in progress projects at the moment, which was why I was reading like a maniac last month to keep myself busy, haha. Should start thinking about any paintings I might want to do for Christmas gifts soon though.

Current obsession: I am simmering Mysterious Lotus Casebook in my mind on medium heat. I am kissing the main characters on their foreheads and tucking them into a gas station hot dog warmer and watching them proudly through the glass. I am literally SO unwell about these men, dear god. I had to really go searching for the last line I wrote because my last real line was for a fic I’ve already posted, but I couldn’t remember the last line for a wip. it turned out to be for a VegasPete marriage of convenience (bluebeard) au, where Pete mistakes Vegas for someone else:

Vegas hadn’t asked for Pete to send a picture of himself, so Pete hadn’t asked either. What did it matter what his future husband looked like? Pete would marry him regardless.

Well, as it turns out, a picture would have been useful to avoid accidentally assaulting said future husband.
