MoorClan, month 22. While on a patrol, Cranestar and Patchspring were caught by a violent snowstorm, forced to hide in a small hollowed out stump for hours. Things were never the same between them after that.

Could we have more details on Mapleshade's second litter?

Yes, you can! They are called Swansong, Goldenwhisker, Redmask, and Palefern.

Swansong was the firstborn and is protective of all of her siblings. Obviously, she was named after her Grandmother by Sunfrost. Like Swans, her swimming is elegant, and she can hold her breath for a whole minute to dive deep into the river to catch fish. Personality-wise, she is calm and level headed, but if pushed can become very aggressive. She had two kits with an unknown father. Became Swanstar after the previous one, Otterstar died. Her successor was Hailstar.

Goldenwhisker became a Medicine cat, not because she was forced, but she genuinely wanted to heal cats. That, and her older-half brother Larchfeather was a Medicine cat too. Together, they actually conceived the cure for worms and made splints using spiderwebs or grass with twigs. These two creations helped a lot of cats down the line, and their names are still remembered for it. Despite being a healer, she took no crap from no one and is very blunt on things. If she got lip from a patient, they got bitter herbs and a deadpan look that made them squirm.

Redmask, like her mother, is an able-bodied warrior. She trained her self to fight like a Thunderclan and Riverclan cat to confuse her enemies, and can seamlessly change between the fighting style. But if she had to choose, she’ll pick RC every single time. She is also the biggest Daddy’s girl in the clan but refused to admit it. When her brother needed help to train, she was there every step of the way. She’ll eventually grow very close with a cat named Mintbreeze and raised their surrogate kits together. Looked up to her older-half siblings, especially Petalsplash.

 Palefern is actually an albino. At first, they thought he was white like his sister Swankit, but noticed his eyes, paw pads, and other things pointed to albinism. He had help being trained to fight and get around since his eyes was closed because certain light made his eyes hurt.  Has an easy-going personality and doesn’t have a mean spirited bone in his body. Got the longest legs out of all siblings. When asked, he was the surrogate biological father to Mintbreeze’s kits and aided in raising them with the happy couple.

As for Patchkit, Petalkit, and Larchkit, they became Patchspring, Petalsplash, and Larchfeather. The first to became warriors while Larchfeather got into healing when he saw Cloudberry help an elder with a nasty cough back to health.

Look at this spooky heterocromic boy, his name is Patchleap/Patchspring and he joined Riverclan and named his child Moonkit (later Moonshine) because his owners were arrested for having a party with moonshine involved and he overheard that word before they were arrested ANYWAYS he has. Issues.

He got his apprentice name (Patchpaw) because of his pattern and he got his Warrior name because of a hunting technique he figured out, I personally think Riverclan is the more chonky clan so they don't do much climbing but he can climb trees near the banks and drop into the middle of the stream to catch fish out there instead of having to stick with the fish by the edge. He's not much of a fighter (fast but not very powerful) so yeah definitely not gonna name him after his battle skills.

His mate is named Echo and joined Riverclan as a rouge, she's very sarcastic and only even started paying attention to him because he fell out of a tree while hunting and landed on her.

CandyKit + possibly fadingflea kits : Kits born in the dark forest have paler, cloudy eyes 

FishKit, FrostKit, MoleKit, FungiChomp -  crushed by log - unnaturally bent spine with slivers of wood sticking out of it

TawnyKit - deathberries -  from time spent in the pit, her fur is always painfully matted and she constantly feels cold 

PinenutKit, JellyKit - drowning - soaked to the bone, always short of breath 

BrownMouse - adder, heart and kidney failure, seizures - swollen back leg wiry venom dripping from it, cloudy and dilated eyes, feels like he’s in cardiac arrest, frothing at the mouth (he carries moss around to soak it up) 

HollyKit - adder - swollen back leg, venom drips from it and burns her skin 

PatchSpring - deathberries - mouth frothing at the corners 

GoblinSnap - blunt force trauma, impaled through brain, paw skinned, eye torn out, broken neck - a branch through the brain that used to connect him to GremlinFrost, which was snapped so they could walk freely. Paw is completely mangled, neck hangs limply at the side, eye is attached by a string.

Story:

Her babies were gone. 

It wasn’t right, Bluekit suffocating in her sleep, Hawkkit sneaking out and drowning, Frondkit and Heatherkit overdosing on catmint, of all things.   

There was no way this was just bad luck, and as she saw the pitying looks her Clanmates gave her, her chest tightened with fear. Cloudfang is small, and she’s sickly, and she’s a former kittypet. They probably hate her, or didn’t want “weak blood” in their Clan. That’s what the other kittypets used to say, right? The Clan cats were cruel.   

When they took in an expecting Cloud after she had gotten lost, she decided to stay. Her kits died at only a week old, and she was devastated. She threw herself into training, becoming a fairly decent hunter.   

They had a mate, a sweet barn-cat, and by the next leafbare, she was expecting kits again.

They were born so small, so weak, that she didn’t think they would make it. An elder, Patchspring, was kind to her. She was a bit snappy, but it was still really nice to have company while she waited for her kits to get better. When they woke up one day to Bluekit dead, her Clanmates told her that the kit’s airway probably just closed off.   

But that was another kit, and she couldn’t lose any more. It wasn’t fair! What did she ever do wrong to deserve this? Hawkkit died after. Found in the stream while on patrol. They said he snuck out, but Hawkkit was always complaining about how he wanted to be able to see the territory by his mother’s side and not a mentor’s. 

He would never sneak out, she was sure of it!   

They were allowed to move to the nursery, and Cloudfang was happy aside from the, well, cloud hanging over them. Frondkit and Heatherkit loved Patchspring, and everything med-den related.   

Maybe if they became medicine cats, Cloudfang wouldn’t have to worry about them getting hurt. Now, with her friend and her four kits dead, they were convinced it was their Clanmates.   

They grew snappy and skittish around everyone, clawing anyone who dared to sneak close to her. She slept on her own and made sure everyone was asleep before her.   

Her mate was so gentle, so kind. Duke was incredibly supportive of her, and managed to convince her that everything would be okay. Life went on, and when they decided to have kits again, she promised herself this time would be different.  And it was; she had a beautiful, healthy son. 

Lionkit was perfect, and they would do anything for him. When the apprentices started bullying her baby, she took one out on a hunting patrol with her and snapped his neck.  

 Riverkit was the most difficult to kill. She was so sweet, so much like Frondkit, that Cloudfang almost couldn’t do it. But RiverKit already had permanent chest pain, and she didn’t want the poor kit to be in pain her whole life. 

At least now she would be protected in Starclan.   

Besides, she had to give Lionkit the best chance in life. Lionkit went everywhere with her, and she glanced over at him while he played with a beetle, too young to realize what was happening to Riverkit.  

While she was burying the body, the kit’s older brother was out on a patrol. He attacked her, and they cried out in pain as Greyfur slashed his claws across her face.   

With blood pouring into her eyes, she didn’t see as her baby stepped in front of her to see if she was okay, and didn’t process as Greyfur called out for her to be careful. She kicked, and her heart sunk as she heard a loud crack. 

Lionkit hit the tree stump hard, his back and neck breaking. No, no, she couldn’t lose another baby! Not again! 

She didn’t have much time to process before everything went black as she choked, Greyfur holding her head under water while she struggled.  

Additional Information:  

--Greyfur became another Dark Forest cat. He was also Patchspring’s apprentice. He thought that Cloudfang hurt Lionkit on purpose, and was scared that she would hurt him as well as any kits back in camp.

--Cloudfang genuinely believed that her kits were killed by her Clanmates, and she never formed any bonds with her Clanmates after her kits’ deaths.  

--Most people tend to think golden cat when they hear Lion, but he’s a white cat with a black spot on his chest.

CloudFang and FleaThistle 

I’m still working on FleaThistle’s story, but basically he’s a small fluff ball who kills his clanmates to protect plants. It sounds weird but it will make more sense later. 

CloudFang’s kits were killed (unknown to her, her “friend” patchspring killed them) and she grew completely distant from her clan, believing they were trying to hurt her and her kits. She had another kit, LionKit, and she grew so obsessed with keeping him safe that she killed two apprentices and a kit.

I’m considering the idea of having CloudFang be so overwhelmed with the death of their “friend” and their kits that they end up becoming a dark forest cat after they lash out at their clanmates, growing paranoid that they would try to kill them next. It would be the Spider-Man pointing meme once they meet PatchSpring in the dark forest — @wills-woodland-warriors

Story:

Patchspring was a respectful warrior, but she had no friends or family. Born a rogue, she was brought into the Clan and later lost her foster mother to greencough.   

She was always quite a solitary cat and when she retired, she was happy to finally have a den all to herself. It was perfect, really. She got all the alone time she needed and didn’t have to do any work. Well, it was until she had to stay in the medicine den for a moon to recover from a sickness.   

Cloudfang was such a weak cat, and her kits were born even weaker. Patchspring wouldn’t have cared if the kits didn’t have to stay in the medicine den with her.   

Now having four unruly kits and a medicine cat in the den with her was far too much. She had to do something! After all, she deserved a good rest before her time to join Starclan.   

Poor Bluekit, suffocated in her sleep, her windpipe crushed. Everyone grieved, but the kit was young. They’d get over it.   

Except it backfired on Patchspring, and now Cloudfang spent all her time in the medicine den, fussing over her remaining kits. HawkKit was next. He was more difficult now that he was older, but he was easy enough to convince him to follow her outside camp in the middle of the night.

Tossing the small kit into the creek, she held his head under easily until he stopped thrashing. He was found on patrol the next day, and it was assumed the adventurous kit had snuck out to explore.  

It was better, now. The remaining two kits and their mother moved back to the nursery, and aside from the shy medicine cat, Patchspring was finally alone again.   

For the first week, things were great--until the kits were allowed to enter the medicine den without any good reason at all!  Constantly talking, asking for stories, running around. She barely got any sleep now, and nearing the end of her life, she decided this just wouldn’t do.   

Frondkit and Heatherkit happened to overdose on catmint. It was a tragedy, really. When Frondkit looked up at her while she was on the brink of death, Patchspring felt a pang of regret. These kits had such a great future ahead of them.   

Didn’t FrondKit want to be a medicine cat?   

When the kits went still, their bodies cooling, Patchspring pulled some deathberries from the medicine shelf. It was difficult to stay quiet while grabbing them, having to knock multiple herbs out of the way to reach them at the back of the shelf.   

She curled up around the kits and stuffed the deathberries into her half-eaten mouse.   

Patchspring was found dead not long after, along with the kits. Her clanmates assumed that she was overcome with grief  at the tragic accident with the kits, and poisoned herself.  

In the dark forest, she avoids all kits and spends most of her time alone on the edges of the forest.
