Hi everyone! My father is now in Hospice. I don't know if they only exist in Italy but a Hospice (exactly called that) is a hospital-like structure for terminally ill patients. No doctor can tell me "how long" he has left… he isn't suffering from cancer but he has heart problems. But he is there and I hope to bring him home if I am given the chance. He wants to go back at home and die at home. I go to visit him every afternoon, he is in a different town than the one where I live. I have to go there after writing this post. But I have to spend the time at home, alone when I return in the evening. Even if in reality I come back tired, especially mentally. Thank you for the get well wishes you sent to my father.❤️ Unfortunately it's too serious, he won't be able to heal. Last night, since I couldn't sleep, I started looking for photos of Jerry and Dean again and found several that (I think) I'd never seen. Now I'm sharing only this. I'll be back here tonight. (now here in Italy it is half past twelve in the morning)

Dean didn't show and poor Jerry cried all the way there. Dean knew Jerry better than anybody and knew how to hurt him and he did very often in the next few years. Their relationship was so complicated, it was like a maze.

Why did Jerry and Patti almost divorce shortly after their marriage?

I had planned to respond to this like weeks ago, and gathered the information for it, then forgot to respond. I'm ashamed.... :(

Anyway I talked with @kingdc2017 about this question specifically, and here is what was found/discussed.

There was a letter from Jerry to Patti, in the summer of '46, where he said if she wanted a divorce he would not stand in her way. It likely had to do with his gambling debt in Atlantic City.

"In Patti's book she wrote on page 40 about how he, "on many occasions during this time (which time?? 1946, 1947??), decided not to come home at all. It had happened when Gary was a baby and we were in New Jersey..." Further on: "Dean and Jerry were playing the Capitol in New York when Jerry announced our second separation." They played the Capitol in April 1947, a whole month. Second separation? So when was the first? Remember Jerry wrote in his autobiography that he took a room in NY to be near the action. So this is likely what Patti was referring to when she said he sometimes didn't come home at all. Maybe this period was the first separation?"
