Drabble queue is empty now but I think I'm allowed to fill my own drabble wants so Peixuan! :D
“This doesn’t seem fair somehow,” Shi Qingxuan pouts once the child has been taken away. He’d slept so peacefully in Pei Ming’s sturdy arms, cradling a fistful of hair between tiny fingers. “You shouldn’t be so good at this.” “I’ve had to learn,” Pei Ming admits, a rare confession from a man who never talks about his past. There’s a tenderness to his expression as he looks towards the other room, revealing a side to himself Shi Qingxuan has never known to exist. Pity he instantly ruins it with a haughty, “The ladies love a guy who’s good with kids.”

Summary:
In Dongsheng Shenzhou on the top of the Flower and Fruit Mountain, an immortal stone burst and turned into a stone monkey, who was revered as the Monkey King. In order to find the elixir of immortality, the Monkey King worshipped Bodhi Patriarch as his master and was named Sun Wukong. He went to the Dragon Palace to get the Ruyi Jingu Bang and called himself the Great Sage Equaling Heaven. He made a big fuss in the Heavenly Palace, disrupted the Peach Banquet, overturned the alchemy furnace and refined the Fire Eyes and Golden Pupils, and was later pressed under the Five Elements Mountain by the Buddha.
Five hundred years later, Tang Monk passed by the Five Elements Mountain, uncovered the Tathagata's pressure, rescued Wukong, and named him Sun Xingzhe; soon after, he accepted the White Dragon Horse, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing as his disciples. Since then, the four masters and apprentices have traveled together to the West to obtain scriptures. The master and apprentice passed by Wuzhuang Temple. Because Sun Wukong stole ginseng fruit and destroyed the ginseng tree, Tang Monk was trapped. Fortunately, Bodhi Patriarch gave him instructions in a dream, and Sun Wukong asked Guanyin Bodhisattva to save the ginseng fruit tree, which solved the dilemma.
Unexpectedly, when they arrived at Baihu Ridge, Tang Seng drove him away because he misunderstood that Sun Wukong had killed three people. Unexpectedly, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing were no match for the monsters. Soon after, Tang Seng was captured. Sun Wukong, grateful for his master's kindness, rushed to rescue Tang Seng and defeated the Yellow Robe Monster, the Golden Horn, the Silver Horn and other monsters. Only then did he know that these monsters were all gods who were implicated because of his disturbance in the Heavenly Palace five hundred years ago. The four masters and apprentices reconciled, but each of them continued to go west with their own thoughts.

Random Peixuan thought of the day
Usually my post-canon thoughts have Pei Ming actively maintaining the old relationship while SQX wants to pull away
So let’s flip that!
Pei Ming who believes SQX never liked him anyway and decides to give him space and enjoy independence (he’ll have someone check in every now and then but otherwise doesn’t get involved. The bittersweet feeling of not really having much reason to stick around anymore so you just… don’t)
And a SQX who kind of misses their old relationship and tries to find out how Ol’ Pei is doing through Xie Lian and the like and the bittersweet feeling of hearing he’s the same as always and not really being able to say you want to meet (and also feeling kind of abandoned overall… but then again Ol’ Pei was only ever tolerating him for SWD’s sake…)

For feveruary: 22 for Pei Ming/Shi Qingxuan!
Peixuan my beloved! <3
Thank you for the ask!!
Feveruary Day 22: “Our date can wait! You’re far more important.”
(this ended up a 700 word drabble lol)
-
“One date then. Don’t make me regret it.”
Throughout history, many tales had been spun about General Mingguang. His feats of bravery. His battlefield conquests.
His many, many lovers.
General Mingguang’s love affairs had no limits. From princesses to prostitutes, from goddesses to ghosts – so long as she caught his eye, his pursuit would be relentless. A hero in some tales, a villain in others – exaggerated or restrained, there were as many stories as there were storytellers, and then some as the mortal playwrights couldn’t possibly know just how much actually went across the three realms.
The stories were popular. The man behind them a legend.
But every story – fact or fantasy – always had the same ending.
When the flames of passioned burned out, the great general would disappear.
General Pei’s lovers rivaled the stars in the sky, but whether or not they stayed in his heart, they never stayed in his sights.
He wasn’t one for commitment. He didn’t believe in eternal love.
He just liked flings.
Short-term physical relationships that lasted as long as it took him to find another beauty, and then he never bothered with his exes again.
According to some rumors he even went out of his way to avoid crossing paths with them. “Brothers like limbs, women like clothes,” or so he would say as he tossed out his old robes with the changing seasons. Hard feelings? Broken hearts? Those ceased to be his problem the moment a relationship ended, and he took great care to keep it that way.
And that man…
That man…
That bastard stood Shi Qingxuan up again!
---
“This time I really will tell Ge.” Shi Qingxuan brushed her hair past her shoulders. “What will he do when he finds out how you’ve poorly treated me, I wonder?”
Pei Ming groaned as he turned to her. “Be careful Qingxuan. Decisions made in anger rarely end well. If you tell him this, you’ll have to tell him certain other things.” He coughed into his fist, the harsh sound pricking Shi Qingxuan’s chest like a series of needles.
“How does a heavenly official like you even get into such a state?”
“Well, you see, it started when –
“Actually, never mind. Don’t talk. You sound awful.” Awful enough that Shi Qingxuan was convinced at least. “And after I went through all the trouble to get ready…”
“You, know this is the part where you’re supposed to say ‘Our date can wait! You’re far more important.’”
“Oh? So that’s how it is. The only thing more important to General Pei than a date is himself.”
Pei Ming frowned. “That wasn’t what I said.”
“It’s what I heard.”
It was always something with him. “Not today, Qingxuan, I’m on patrol.” Or “Your brother invited me out.” Or “I’m seeing someone else.” Or “Mt Tonglue is opening, so I’m busy.”
One would think there was something wrong with Shi Qingxuan with the way he always had excuses ready.
It wasn’t that her female guise wasn’t beautiful enough for him. She knew it was. She knew of the way he stared at her when he thought she (or her brother, rather) wasn’t looking, of the lechery in his smile and the thoughts that filled his head when she leaned forward. She found amusement in that little tsk of disappointment he made whenever she switched back.
“The way you look at me – why not ask me out already?”
“Since when are you old enough to date?”
“Is that a no?”
“It doesn’t have to be.”
“One date then. Don’t make me regret it.”
Shi Qingxuan has done nothing but regret it ever since. With a sigh, she switched back to her male body as Pei Ming tsked in disappointment.
“This is the part where you’re supposed to be grateful I’m here to look after you.”
“I’ll be grateful if I’m not poisoned to death.”
Later, when Shi Wudu returned, Shi Qingxuan would debate mentioning that the Palace of Ming Guang passed along a message of its master’s imminent demise and leave Pei Ming’s recovery to him.
Until then, Shi Qingxuan slapped a fully soaked towel onto his face and got to work.
No ending for them just yet.

Random Peixuan thought of the day
The last dialogue between Pei Ming & Shi Qingxuan in Book 3
SQX:Where does one get a coffin around here?
PM: Gege will build one for you right now
this dialogue suddenly feels a lot darker in hindsight xD

what i was thinking was that when swd made pei ming swear, he used some kind of binding artifact that forces pei ming to keep his promise. pm knew about it when the vow happened, but didn't care because he never thought anything would happen to shi wudu...and a year post-canon, pei ming's powers are fading and he doesn't realize why until he remembers the artifact. he confesses what happened to xl first, then they tell sqx together, and pei ming frames it as "sqx, thank you so much for doing this for my sake" and offers to house and feed her friends from the capital in return.
OH! MY! GOODNESS! I LOVE THIS A LOT!
This is going in a sad direction but in a very fun way! Pei Ming is someone who never wanted to get married in the first place but now has to or he'll die, and worse - he's effectively trapping SQX into the marriage. I can see him as stoically considering death before dragging SQX into this but SQX wouldn't be able to live with the guilt of someone else suffering because of her brother's protectiveness and questionable choices so - yeah, she does agree to it for Pei Ming's sake, and its deeply uncomfortable for both of them, especially because PM made this vow centuries ago and can't remember what the exact wording was
(But he insists - repeatedly - that he entered it willingly and knowingly and aside from a desire to smack SWD a few times, doesn't hold a grudge against him. And for his own sanity acts like his usual silly self)
But they're willing to make it work. At least temporarily while Hualian and Ling Wen find a way to free PM from the artifact's curse so SQX can be freed too.
And of course, as Pei Ming's legends go, any woman who enters into a relationship with him is guaranteed a good life so exactly as SWD would have wanted, SQX is set up with a good house for herself and her friends and both of them do their best to pretend that nothing has changed
(someone in heaven leaks the story to the mortal realm and SQX goes to watch plays of it when PM isn't around and feels very awkward and uncertain especially with how the story gets warped and embellished.)
(Meanwhile, something something lots of complicated SWD feelings because how could her brother do this to both her and his closest friend!)

I was thinking about the peixuan prompt and just.... thoughts of swd knowing that Pei Ming caring about sqx wouldn't be enough, he would have to bring sqx into his family and establish a relationship with her that couldn't be taken back.
Anon, I am also thinking about the peixuan prompt and YES TO ALL OF THIS T_T <3
SWD wants to make sure SQX's future is secure in all the ways - wants to make sure she still has family to turn to if something happens to him.
(I picture this promise coming about by Pei Ming proposing it jokingly one time, except Shi Wudu takes it very seriously and won't let it go until Pei Ming agrees... so he does eventually because what's even going to happen to Shuishi-xiong anyway?)
(I always like to picture that SWD knew that the price for the fate swap would be a violent end for him - he just has zero problems with it and instead makes sure there's a contingency plan for SQX in place in case it ever comes up)

Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Pei Ming & Shi Qingxuan, Jun Wu & Shi Qingxuan Characters: Pei Ming (Tian Guan Ci Fu), Shi Qingxuan, Jun Wu (Tian Guan Ci Fu) Additional Tags: and other heavenly official npcs, Mid Autumn Festival, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, sqx is a tsundere, sqx is also jun wu's favorite daughter, in a way that is not worrying, probably, Protective SQX, Pei Ming's Backstory Summary:
“Me again? How does this keep happening?”
It's tradition at this point for Pei Ming’s salacious tales to be featured in the Mid-Autumn Festival Banquet, and he downs the wine in a single gulp to great applause. The curtain can’t rise faster than the anticipatory whispers, as everyone wonders what sort of stage they’ll find the general on this year. A palace? A brothel? Maybe an enchanted forest?
They get a battlefield.

While trying to write a different kind of Pei Ming h/c fic, I remembered this draft exists and decided to clean it up and post it ;w;
I hope you enjoy! <3

WIP Wednesday 7.17.24
This is shaping up to be the most domestic thing I've ever written
“Are you going to stay?” Shi Qingxuan asked quietly at some point. “Nope. Your brother told me to get out. But I might change my mind if you bow your head and ask nicely. Please stay with me Pei-gege, I’m scared.” “Go away. Never come back.” Pei Ming laughed. If Shi Qingxuan had said something like that, he would have been really worried.

Looking at the pickle jar scene where SQX explains PM’s history with the Rain Master… I don’t know why but it’s so amusing to me that the history he mentions is the one about PM’s previous deputy and not… you know.
Does SQX tell that story because it’s more recent? Or does he just not know their full history?
(I like to think he doesn’t know)

Drabble prompt: 37 for Pei Ming and Shi Qingxuan! I read so many of your fics about them and now I'm hooked...
Thank you so much!! So happy to hook more people onto this duo <3333
I ended up writing two drabbles here haha. The first one is in the same verse as these other drabbles where sqx has a kid and pm is a doting uncle
“But what if he doesn’t like me?” Shi Qingxuan made another loop around the room. “What if he runs off and gets hurt? What if something weird latches onto him?” Pei Ming’s eyes followed him on yet another loop. Any more and he was sure there’d be a hole through the floor. “Qingxuan,” he began. He didn’t have advice, but he could confidently say there wasn’t anything weird out there he wouldn’t be able to beat up. Before he could say anything though, Shi Qingxuan suddenly stopped. “Is this… how my brother felt?” Pei Ming snorted. “Always. Welcome to fatherhood.”
and the second one is just silliness
“This isn’t what it looks like,” Pei Ming started to say, although in truth it was exactly what it looked like. “This happens all the time.” That didn’t make it any better, in Shi Qingxuan’s humble opinion. Her lips curled into a smirk at the sight of the swaddled baby in the general’s arms. “He’s not even mine!” “Isn’t he? That’s what I’m here to figure out.” Sometimes Shi Qingxuan rather liked the cases the Emperor gave her. She intended to investigate the baby abandoned in the Ming’guang temple thoroughly. “If you’re wrong, I’m saying it first: Welcome to fatherhood.”
sqx is investigating as a neutral party, which is to say jw either doesn't know what neutral means or just enjoys chaos. or both.
