Peles & Bran Castles 🏰
Today we got to tour not one but TWO famous Romanian castles! We left Bucharest behind early this morning, and headed towards the mountains. Along the way, we stopped at the train station & picked up our second tour guide, Raz. The first castle we visited was Peles Castle, located in Sinaia. Completed in 1883, it was the summer home for the Romanian royal family and is an eclectic collection of various architecture styles as well as artwork itself. The Weapons Room was a collection unto itself with the variety of different weaponry used by both members of the Romanian royal family, but also weapons from other countries and weapons won in battle. The grounds were spectacular and it was so nice to be in the cool of the mountains. Mom, Pat and I remarked how much the area around Sinaia reminds us of the Blue Ridge Mountains, so many a picture was taken.

Next we made our way to Bran, where we stopped and had some lunch before heading to the castle I have waited over a year and a half to see: BRAN’S CASTLE 🏰 aka DRACULA’S CASTLE 🧛‍♂️. Yes I had a major nerd-out, yes I took tons and tons of pictures, yes I did a vampire pose outside the castle, and no, I regret nothing. The hike up to the castle was pretty steep so I got a good leg workout but it was worth it when we got up there. The castle has been restored inside and out, and the exhibit was all dedicated to the lives of the persons who lived in the fortress, including the famous Vlad Tepes Draculae. There was also a really cool exhibit about the various myths and supernatural legends in Romania, including strigoi, werewolves, ghosts & goblins. There was even an example of a “vampire killing kit”. I was really proud of Mom for braving the cramped and narrow staircases to make her way up the castle floors, as well as her not getting afraid of being up so high. It was truly SO COOL, and I am going to treasure the memories forever in my little nerdy heart.

The van then made its way to Brasov, stopping along the way for us to try some plum brandy made fresh in the area. I will tell you, that brandy was STRONG and not exactly my liquor of choice, but I am glad I at least gave it a try. We then made it to Brasov and settled into our hotel room. Mom & I decided to just take it easy and have some snackies before settling into bed.
Tomorrow we tour Brasov and see its treasures, so I look forward to telling you all about them tomorrow!
Till then, I bid you all farewell.

MAX HEY what got u into soccer (as u call it) / ur football origin story ?!?!?
HI BESTIE I LOVE HEARING FROM YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING!!!
warning in advance i talk. so much. like half this info isnt even necessary to answer the question i jus like to run my big mouth.
so it all started when i was a wee lil lad. actually if you wanna be technical it starts before then!! basically i love soccer cause my dads loved it his whole life. n my dad loves soccer cause his dad loved soccer n i'll probly pass it on to my poor kiddos in the future lmao.
but yeah when i say dad loves soccer i MEAN it. he played when he was in school n continued to play after for the local club, a club made entirely of irish immigrants in new york. he is not irish. but he was rlly good so they were like aight. i have a ton a their trophies n yearbooks n stuff!! my dad was a goalie n helped them win a CHAMPIONSHIP (that he postponed his wedding for)!!! he got a buncha mvp votes n my opa has a plaque thanking him for being their biggest supporter :)) fun fact dads team played against usmnt goalie tim howard when he was younger. dont remember who won tho.
i know less abt opas exploits unfortunately, but by God did he love the sport. man could watch half a dozen games a day. oh wait nvm i jus remembered how could i forget he took my dad to PELES FAREWELL GAME IN '77??? oh yeah my dad n opa used to see the new york cosmos EVERY HOME GAME. so theyve literally seen pele himself more times than my dad can count. funny lil story they were season ticket holders but at the farewell game their seats were given to mohammed ali. as i type this i realize that sounds so made up but im not shitting you. look it up he was there.
so yeah naturally being raised by this man means being raised around soccer. as a baby i had a little plush soccer ball n i actually took my first steps with it. its still lying around somewhere i think. i did play when i was a kid (goalie, ofc) but the fact that i have the atheticism of an asthmatic squirrel cut my playing career short. honestly, i regret not pulling through n playing more. i actually didnt get into european soccer till i was like eleven. up until then i was a DIE HARD mls/new york red bulls enjoyer. i went to my first red bulls game when i was literally an infant n went to damn near every home game for over a decade. which means i jus got to watch the man, the myth, the legend mr thierry henry more times than i can COUNT. i didnt realize till years later how fortunate i actually was!!
now the REAL awakening. so its 2014, either march or april i cant remember. i come downstairs from an absurdly long minecraft playing binge n like usual theres a game on the tv. i ask whos playing n my dads like its el clasico. n im like ??? he explains that barcelona n real madrid are two teams in spain with an intense rivalry n every time they play they call it el clasico. n that barcelona has a player named lionel messi, who many consider the best in the world, n that real madrid has cristiano ronaldo, who many also consider the best in the world. i watched the rest of the game with him, n i honestly dont know what exactly made me a die hard messi fan. my dads a serie a/juventus enjoyer so he didnt care enough to steer me one way or the other. but from that day forward i was the BIGGEST messi n barcelona fan. i remember the 2014 wc VIVIDLY, it made me the woman i am today n NOT in a good way. i also remember growing up watching msn n that was literal crack. the 2015 ucl final especially was an,,, interesting time in my house lmao.
n thats why i love soccer!!!

Brazil Says Farewell to Late Football Legend Mario Zagallo
Brazilians paid their condolences on Sunday to football hero Mario Zagallo, a four-time World Cup winner and coach who died at the age of 92.
On Sunday, Brazilians paid their tribute to football star Mario Zagallo, a four-time World Cup-winning player and coach who died at the age of 92 and was the last member of one of the country’s finest generations in the cherished sport.
Tumblr media
A steady stream of mourners, dressed in black, the yellow of the Brazilian national team, or the colors of the numerous clubs where Zagallo played and coached, filed past his coffin at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) headquarters, whose facade featured a giant banner in his honor.
Brazil’s record five World Cup trophies were on display near the lace-draped coffin. Zagallo, a small left-wing famed for his tactical acumen, was involved in four of them, more than any other player in football history.
The “Professor,” as he was called, was a member of Brazil’s World Cup-winning teams in 1958 and 1962.
He later coached Pele’s 1970 world champion squad, widely regarded as the best team in history, and served as an assistant coach when the “Selecao” repeated the feat in 1994.
“We’ve lost a sporting legend,” Bebeto, a member of the 1994 squad, stated.
“He was my second father,” he told journalists, echoing fellow World Cup champion Cafu (1994 and 2002).
Others who paid their tributes included former Brazil coach Tite and CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who delivered an emotional embrace to Zagallo’s son Mario Cesar.
‘Only one Zagallo’
Claudio Auvarenga, a 64-year-old driver, arrived early to be among the first to walk by the casket.
“You can travel the world and only find one Zagallo.” “No one else in history has won four World Cups,” he told AFP.
Eliana Gaia, 66, Zagallo’s longtime aide, described him as a “human being without equal.”
“He was a magnificent person, a hero,” she went on to say.
Following a public wake and a private service, Zagallo’s casket was lifted atop a bright red fire truck for a funeral cortege through Rio de Janeiro’s streets, as a small gathering of supporters applauded and shouted.
He was later laid to rest in the Sao Joao Batista cemetery, which is home to some of Brazil’s most famous individuals.
Zagallo died on Friday from multiple organ failure, following a string of health issues in recent months.
From Saturday, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has designated three days of national mourning.
Tributes from the football world have also flooded in.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino referred to Zagallo as a “tactical genius,” World Cup winners Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Romario praised him, and current Brazil and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior simply referred to him as a “LEGEND.”
Only Franz Beckenbauer of Germany (1974 and 1990) and Didier Deschamps of France (1998 and 2018) have won the World Cup as both player and coach.
Nostalgia for the good old days
Zagallo is remembered for his warm humor, strong superstition (he swore by the number 13), and fierce passion for the game.
After the famous Pele died in December 2022 at the age of 82, he was the only surviving starter from Brazil’s first World Cup-winning team in 1958.
The defeat comes at a terrible time in Brazilian football.
Brazil fired national team coach Fernando Diniz on Friday after the “Selecao,” who were missing injured sensation Neymar, suffered a humiliating string of losses in World Cup qualifiers.
Brazil is presently sixth in South American qualifying.
Dorival Junior, the coach of Sao Paulo, has been nominated to take over as coach of Brazil, according to the club, though the CBF has yet to confirm this.
CBF chief Rodrigues, who was reinstalled in the role on Thursday amid a lengthy legal struggle over the confederation’s leadership, told journalists at the wake that he “just want(ed) to talk about Zagallo today.”
“This is a time to talk about this legend of Brazilian and world football,” he went on to say.

Pearls And Strawberries
Pearls and strawberries… strawberries and pearls like a hidden, forbidden desire she couldn't resist.
Like a rhythm or a rhyme that was endlessly repeated, like a heartbeat, like a shiver that she feel on her skin and that forces her to close the eyes in pleasure.
Like two lovers coming together on a winter night, so were her deepest desires and those that still reminded her of him.
Missing translated into sighs and whispers brought by the north winds, the same ones that separated them forever on a journey of destiny, in a last performance on a stage that she had always thought would be forever...
All that was left were the memories, the sweet memories of the necklace he gave her, the taste of strawberries in his last farewell kiss...
Strawberries and pearls... Pearls and Strawberries, rhythms and memories not always in the same order... but like images and feelings always destined to repeat themselves... to meet in dreams that are never forgotten !

Perolas E Morangos
A new series for 2023 "Atellan Stories . Mystic Mime Worlds " based in the pantomine of the mime artists in a World full of fantasy, color and mystery.
