Do you like frogs? What about tabbouleh? If you answered yes to both of these questions then I have just the frog for you. This fellow is a common parsley frog [Pelodytes punctatus], the tiny, singular member of it’s family Pelodytidae. These European natives range from Spain to the north of France, and the largest of their females average out at just 4.5 centimeters long. These frogs are listed as being of Least Concern by the IUCN Red List. Photographs by Jason Steel.

Los cambios graduales frente a las mutaciones en genes clave, responsables de la formación de nuevas especies en anfibios
Los cambios graduales frente a las mutaciones en genes clave, responsables de la formación de nuevas especies en anfibios
Sapillo moteado, ‘Pelodytes punctatus’.

It’s that time of the year when I start feeling a sort of “itching” inside, a sort of strange feeling about being caged among buildings and paved roads. Thankfully I live in a very good herping region where one can find unique species like the Parsley frog (Pelodytes punctatus), a very “early riser” among all the Italian Amphibians, being one of the first species that breed at the very beginning of Spring (or even late Autumn/Winter). All it needs it’s a wall of rain and a warmer night. And my itching is then relieved a little bit! :-) #frog #parlsleyfrog #pelodytes #italy #herp #herping #herpsofinstagram #amphibian #amphibianphotography @ilcp_photographers https://www.instagram.com/p/CLZvr2jAAjf/?igshid=10cxl3yb92876

today’s funky frog of the day is: pelodytes caucasicus! commonly known as the caucasian parsley frog, they are native to azerbaijan, georgia, russia, and turkey. their natural habitats include forests, shrubland, rivers, marshes, and springs. they are mostly seen during spring, when they gather in pools to breed. during the summer, they take shelter inside of limestone caves, and they prefer caves containing colonies of bats. they are usually a dark green or brown color. females are always lighter than the males, and they may exhibit a reddish color. they feed primarily on insects, and their lifespan is unknown.
