Studio/own time: Part 1

This is notes that i created over the few weeks of making the final work.

first thing, Materials, Photos of drafts in week 10 (although i experimented with a few materials, i only got photos of one)

Revision:          Pens: Pros

1) can’t obsess over detail.

2) if done well it looks really good

 Revision          Pens: Cons

1) Its meant to be a surprising turn, although drawing for me, is different from what i usually do, to create the animation as well as draw hands that i cant do very well, is going to take too much time

2) you can’t fix up mistakes

3) traditional animation, unless you are amazing at drawing, it very impractical

4) you cant quickly shade,

5) When it comes to drawing not only hands, but unnatural hand gestures, to be able to tell what it is at all, you need to add a bit more detail so that the audience can make out what it is, and with pen, unless u had a lot of time, you cant really achieve that with the skills i currently have.

Revision:   Charcoal: Pros

1)would look really good

2) it is a challenge

Revision          Charcoal: Cons

1) smudges easily

2) i cant draw hands perfectly the first try

3) can only use certain materials to work on

4) need to make many frames for the animation and cant waste time trying to make drafts in pencil and then final in charcoal.

Revision:   Pencil: Pros

1) still looks really good

2) able to rub out mistakes

3) refining a skill set that i am not very strong at (drawing in pencil_

4) sketch has natural shading which gives illusion of depth and that there is more details than there actually is.

Revision:   Pencil: Cons

1) more possibility to obsess over detail.

Revision:   Lined paper: Pros

1) it even further adds a reminscent and nostalgic vibe (reminds drawing in people notes

2) will be a challenge, but if done well will look amazing

3) will help with drawing the proportions of the hands

4) can perfectly line up the different frames

5) can see through each paper, and even when you can’t because of how you are able to line up the paper

Revision:   Lined paper: Cons

1) lining up the paper, if you dont do it properly people will notice

2) cant see as clearly as tracing paper

Revision:   Paper: Pros

1) looks good

2) doesnt have to perfectly line up

3) is easier

Revision:   Paper: Cons

1) not as much of a challenge

2) because of how some of the positions of the hands, i am more likely to accidentally make the frames different sizes

3) proportioning the fingers are harder to draw and line up

KS Attempt #3, day one

l started reading _Katawa Shoujo_ for the third time a couple hours ago, and left off at the beginning of act two a few minutes ago. It’s okay so far, I guess. If you’re curious, I chose Rin as the heroine. Some random thoughts so far...

* I remembered almost every line of the opening two scenes from trying to read them in 2009 and 2013.

* I think there was a conflict in act one. Though I could be wrong. The protagonist keeps asking things like “How do I relate to other people?” or “How do I talk to people with disabilities without insulting them?” or “What do I want?”

* While reading, I kept asking myself if I liked the story. I wasn’t sure whether or not I enjoyed it. Several times I thought that I would have preferred _Katawa Shoujo_ if it transitioned from a story into a complex gameplay experience. Sort of like how the _Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side_ games start with about ten minutes of story, and then let the player experiment and work on stats.

* Why was a brief animation sequence included? Perhaps it would have been better to invest time / effort into backgrounds and special effects. That way, the reader wouldn’t constantly see the same hallway with a painting, or the same crowds-moving effect every time.

* Does this story stack up when compared to the freeware VNs which I enjoyed during the 2000s? Right now, I am not sure. The characters in _Project Nattsu_ were easier to understand. While _Heartache 101_ barely had a story, I didn’t mind because of how much I liked its gameplay. Finally, I had a positive experience with the slow-paced dread in _Black Pencil_, and the adventure plot in _Elven Relations_.

I’ll start reading act two soon. It might take a couple days though, since I’m inclined to resume playing _Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 2nd Kiss_ first.
