Trillium at Jessup's Falls Conservation Area

In the heart of Jessup's Falls Conservation Area, this remarkable display of nature's delicate balance unfolds each spring. Here, the forest floor becomes a canvas painted with the white petals of Trillium flowers. This serene tableau is a testament to the enduring beauty of our natural ecosystems, inviting us to pause and appreciate the quiet majesty of the unfolding spring.

I try to visit every year and I have to say that this year was the best just from the sheer number of flowers; it was Trilliums as far as the eyes can see.

I used a low and close-up perspective, to emphasize the flowers in the foreground, making them appear large and prominent. The angle also helped convey the density and expanse of the floral carpet behind the main subject. Shallow depth of field helped isolate the large flower in front.

PENTAX K-1 II & HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mmF4.5-6.3ED PLM WR REで東上線を撮影。APS-C用レンズなので、35mmフルサイズセンサーのうちAPS-C相当の部分をクロップして使用

2018年のボディと2016年のレンズなので画質に関しては特段問題なし。K-1 IIのコンティニュアスAFはそれなりに被写体を追ってくれるものの、連写していると途中でピントがすっぽ抜けたりして信頼性は今一つな感じ。PENTAX機なのでその辺は仕方がない(キヤノンや近年のソニーと比べる方が無謀)

春紅（HARUBENI）で春を撮る

春紅（HARUBENI）とは、PENTAXの特定のボディとレンズの組み合わせに適用できるカスタムイメージSpecial Editionの一つだ。

僕の持っているK-1 Mark IIとHD PENTAX-DA 20-40mmF2.8-4ED Limited DC WRで春紅が使えるので、今が盛りの梅を撮ってみた。

生田緑地梅園はまさに見ごろ、赤系の色はもちろん、青空も印象的な色に仕上げてくれる。

白もわずかに暖色系に寄るからだろうか、白梅も暗がりや青空をバックによく映えている。

ここからはカスタムイメージ「鮮やか」「ナチュラル」と比べてみる。

左から春紅、鮮やか、ナチュラル。紅梅を春紅で仕上げると、ちょっとどぎついかもしれない。今日のような天候では、ナチュラルが好ましいように思う。

ミツマタの黄色は、春紅ではかなりオレンジ色に近くなった。

こちらの椿は、外側の薄い色と内側の濃い色のコントラストに違いが出た。

今日撮った写真を見る限り、春紅はソメイヨシノを印象的に仕上げることを意図しているように思える。

生田緑地の梅でいうと、枝垂れ梅「藤牡丹」には、春紅がよくはまっている。

梅園から中央広場に戻ると、スタッフの方かボランティアの方かわからないが、大きなシャボン玉を飛ばしていた。

これも春紅で仕上げてみた。葉が落ちた落葉樹も、寒々としたイメージではなく、ほんのり春めいて見えるような気がする。

Valenciennes No. 70 – Rue du Quesnoy II

📍Valenciennes, France

Walking the streets of Valenciennes with a camera felt like a treat. Ornamental facades like this one aren’t the kind of thing I get to photograph much back home. Everywhere I turned, there was something worth shooting—a sculpted flourish, an iron balcony, a timeworn door.

This window stopped me in my tracks. A finely arched surround with heavy baroque details—floral swirls and faces carved in stone—frames a set of tall wooden doors. The ironwork below holds its own, each curve and point like a line from a wrought-iron script.

I cropped in post to better center the symmetry, and corrected for some vertical distortion to restore the intended majesty of the arch. I also gave the sculptural elements a little extra punch—some local contrast to bring out the time-worn texture. The wooden doors got a nudge in the red channel and a pull from the blue to lean them into a warmer tone.

There’s a quiet formality in the composition: symmetry, texture, material, and craft all pulling in the same direction. A façade like this wears its age proudly — and that made it feel like a privilege to document.

Cape Kedo, situated on the west coast of Chiba Prefecture facing the Pacific Ocean, showcases heavily eroded sea cliffs and remnants of quarried stone.

This coastal area, including Cape Kedo and numerous other capes along the Boso Peninsula, was once a bustling site of stone quarries. These quarries extracted Boshu stone, which was ideal for crafting tombstones, stone lanterns, and large blocks used for building foundations and construction materials during the Edo Period (1603–1868).
