From the serene ambience to the personalized services and amenities, spa boutique rooms offer a plethora of benefits that attract customers.
Tumblr media
In this blog, we will discuss why spa boutique rooms are a popular choice for your next getaway:
Relaxation and Wellness
Customers are drawn to spa boutique rooms primarily because of the relaxation and wellness benefits they provide. These rooms are designed to provide a tranquil ambience. From the calming colour schemes to the comfortable furnishings, everything in a spa boutique room is geared towards creating a peaceful and calming atmosphere. Additionally, many spa boutique rooms offer a range of wellness services, such as massages, yoga and meditation to help guests unwind and destress.
Personalised Service
Another reason spa boutique rooms are popular among customers is their personalised service. Unlike larger hotels, spa boutique rooms are typically smaller, allowing for a more personalized experience. Guests can expect attentive service from staff dedicated to ensuring their needs are met. From personalized check-ins to customized wellness programs, spa boutique rooms offer a level of service that is unmatched in larger hotels.
High-End Amenities
Spa boutique rooms are known for their high-end amenities, designed to provide guests with a luxurious and pampering experience. From plush bathrobes and slippers to high-quality toiletries and bedding, every detail in a spa boutique room is carefully selected to enhance the guest experience. Privacy
Privacy is another reason why spa boutique rooms are popular among customers. Unlike larger hotels, spa boutique rooms typically have fewer rooms, allowing guests to enjoy a more intimate and secluded experience. This can be especially appealing for couples looking for a quiet retreat.
In conclusion:

I want to lore dump about my BG3 storyline and OCs so bad, but at the same time I don't want to release any information before it would come out in the future chapters of my fanfic, so to stave off the dark urge, here's.... 🥁🥁🥁
Team Tadpole doing sweet things for each other part 2!
Sometimes, when Astarion has trouble resting at night, Gale will stay up with him and play chess- They started with card games, but Astarion cheats like a fox. He still cheats at chess, but not as often.
Karlach probably notices when her comrades are in pain after battle, and will hug a sack of rocks until they heat up to make a sort of makeshift heating pad for sore muscles.- Bonus points, She'll borrow some scented oils from Halsin to add an element of aromatherapy.
Gale has 100% done talis card readings for Team tadpole when they deal with heavy emotional stuff, if only to help them find their path forward. Maybe he isn't the best at verbal comfort, but magic is one thing he knows he can use for at least some benefit.
I feel like Gale also notices when people aren't dealing well with things, and will purposefully annoy Durge so they have someone to pick on and hopefully feel a little better afterwards. They're definitely the sort of friends that pretend to hate each other, but are there when you need them. Durge definitely brings out his petty side, but its all in good fun. Usually.
While maybe they have a bit of a rocky relationship, I also believe Durge would indulge Gales special interests and let him ramble about things, because they know what it's like to have to shut up to make other people happy. I also feel like Gale would return the favor and deliberately ask about weird, macabre things so that Durge actually has an excuse to bring up topics that interest them.
Wyll has a knitting hobby. You probably wouldn't expect it, but he definitely does. And he's really really good at it, too. He uses every holiday as an excuse to gift people things like socks, scarves, mittens, etc. And I mean EVERY holiday. Earth day, valentines day, national owlbear day (Which is totally not something he made up as an excuse to give people their presents early), etc. The thing is, he notices when people complain about their socks getting worn from traveling, and gets random ideas for gifts at 3 AM, and then spends the rest of the night knitting. He has also been known to make cute little knitted outfits for the group pets in the winter, because he thought Scratch was getting cold.
Adding onto this, Lae'zel is the only person Wyll is willing to go to for a blunt and honest opinion on the gifts he makes before he gives them. Lae'zel doesn't take this lightly, either. While maybe she doesn't show it, she takes this very seriously and is somewhat honored that Wyll came to her instead of anyone else.
Shadowheart tends to replenish Wylls yarn reserve without telling him as well. She asks Lae’zel what colours he's run out of, and then sneak some extra spools into his pack. Wyll still doesn't know who's been doing it, but he's thankful nonetheless. And it's one thing the cleric and the gith can actually be somewhat peaceful about.
Durge doesn't take all of their kills lightly. When it comes to someone they actually respected, there's a ritual they perform afterward that they read about in Withers old temple. They'll grind bone and ash into ink and take time to write out the names of those they respected, and bury it with the bodies. As well as little offerings as well. It isn't a short process either.. Durge will spend the entire night locked in their caravan burning incense, praying their name to Jergal in hopes that the spirit will find rest, and doing little things in honor of the dead.- It isn't hard for team tadpole to figure out when Durge has taken the life of someone they held a genuine respect for, and will be careful not to disturb them, or leave bones or herbs/flowers on the steps of their caravan. Karlach and Astarion will occasionally come to check on them. While maybe it doesn't happen often, it does happen. Withers was particularly surprise to begin receiving prayers after all this time, but it strengthened a sort of bond between the two.

Tumblr media
NYE, 2022. You'd be very glad to kiss the year goodbye even if you'd committed to the ridiculous 2022 gold glittery glasses Javy had perched on your nose when you wandered into his house party around 11pm.
“Here she is, in her own time, ladies and gentlemen,” Javy hollered to get everyone's attention as friends and colleagues cheered, jeered and welcomed you as you followed him into the noisy living room.
“It’s not New Year, I made it in plenty of time,” you protested.
Tumblr media
Using your callsign, Jake asked, “Does that watch on your wrist work?”
“Only when I'm on the clock, Bagman. You miss me?” you asked as Bob handed you a glass of champagne and you patted his soft cheek in greeting, a gentle blush creeping to his fair features.
“Party doesn't start 'til you get here, hellcat,” he taunted as you laughed, and took Rooster's extended hand without a thought to sit yourself in between him and Phoenix.
“All good?” he asked as you shuffled in. You rubbed away some lipstick on his cheek and ask you looked to Natasha and Callie, to match Natasha's shade to Rooster's cheek and grinned. He thanked you.
“All the better for seeing you, Rooster. How's your night been?”
“I see these dorks day in and day out,” he reminded you biting back a gentle smirk as Phoenix punched his shoulder. “Hey,” he tutted her. “Don’t make my point so easily,” he muttered as you laughed. He frowned at you, squaring you up as you grew a little self-conscious under his gaze. “You have a little glitter,” he said softly, pressing his index finger into your cheek but it wouldn’t budge.
Relieved, you told him, “I’ll have a little glitter everywhere for the next month,” you grinned.
“Those glasses are ridiculous.”
“They are,” you wholeheartedly agreed.
He chuckled quietly. “What kept you tonight?”
“She had a date,” Natasha supplied. Rooster raised an eyebrow.
“On New Year's. That seems pretty serious,” Rooster joked, his knee nudging yours.
You motioned him closer, cupping his ear and whispered, “How well do you think it went if I'm here with you guys now?”
He pointed at you and nodded. “Gotcha. Well, I'm glad - we're glad you're here.”
You grinned and pet his cheek, this sweet manchild. You put the celebratory glasses over his eyes to share the magic of never-ending glitter as well.
“Gee thanks,” he sighed, already seeing speckles in his eye line.
“You’re welcome,” you grinned. “They look better on you but they’re no Caravans.”
The usual suspects were there, Dagger Squad members who'd chosen to stay in town for the holidays. A while later were gossiping unabashed with Natasha and Callie on the couch, happily crammed up against Rooster to chat with the ladies, making wild accusations about Christmas Eve shenanigans at Penny's, and Callie getting a bit of action with a visiting Lieutenant. You had seen her flirting with them and gave a congratulatory high-five. The babe was hot.
“We had a few drinks and one thing led to another. It was just a kiss in the spirit of the season,” she tried to explain herself.
“'In the spirit of the season',” you said in unison with Natasha and it only made you cackle further, collapsing back against Rooster, who adjusted his posture to let you have more space.
“The professional levels have been crossed,” you giggled raucously.
“Was just a bit of fun,” Callie shrugged, blushing.
“What about your date tonight?” Natasha turned her attention to you. “You didn’t seem keen on the guy. Surprised you didn’t cancel. Sounds like you’re MO,” she teased.
You shrugged. “I dunno what I was thinking. He was cute, funny, smart.”
“Sounds awful,” Callie snickered as Rooster hopped up behind you and let you fall back into his spot. You watched him leave the room, missing his body heat.
“It just didn’t feel right, you know?”
“So no second date?”
“No second date,” you confirmed. “Is it next year yet?”
“Six minutes,” Natasha confirmed as she popped up with Rueben to start refilling cups and preparing for the ball to drop. Goodbye, 2022. No one will miss you.
“Time for a bathroom break,” you told Callie as she nodded and you pulled yourself off the couch and went to the kitchen to refill your own cup with whiskey where you quietly toasted with Javy and Mickey. “Where’s the bathroom, Javy?”
He nudged your side, pointing down the hallway. “Just through there.”
“Thanks,” leaving your cup, you wandered down the hallway and knocked.
“Just a sec,” Rooster responded.
“Sorry, no rush,” you reassured him.
“10, 9, 8,” you heard as you rolled your eyes. New Year’s Eve was such bullshit, you were confused why you had even bothered coming - there was only one real reason why.
The door suddenly burst open and you sprung back, frightening you momentarily. Rooster grinned. “Sorry, you need to get in there?”
Hello reason.
“5, 4, 3...”
“Please,” you admitted as you traded places, each of you guiding the other with gentle caresses on the side. He looked towards the sound of the '2, 1', and in the spirit of the season, you laughed with each other, planting a tender kiss on the other's cheek. “Happy New Year, Rooster,” you smiled up at him, cupping his flushed cheek as he nodded and caught your eyes with his.
“Happy New Year,” he smiled fondly and as if it was the most natural thing, you both went in to kiss again. This time gently on the lips. You both laughed bashfully pulling a respectful distance away from each other. Rooster checked over his shoulder, the commotion in the living room undisturbing you both.
Both grins faded when it seemed impossible to distract yourselves from the other's gaze and before you knew it, Rooster was pushing you into the bathroom and kicking the door closed behind him, hitching you onto the sink and kissing you manically.
Rooster's hands bunched into your hips, dragging your body to his as you lost your fingers under his hideous Hawaiian shirt, pressing into the dimples on his lower back, moaning gently into the kiss. This wasn't something you had planned, and of course, you had two eyes, you could see how good-looking Rooster was, but he was your teammate, there was no way this was right to be doing in Javy’s bathroom.
But kissing him was amazing. You relinquished his back and your hands travelled to his strong chest, resting your warm palms against his racing heart as he lightly bit your lip and pleaded for you to continue. Opening your mouth to him, this tongue glided against yours and you were completely lost to the kiss. You were at his will and though it scared you, it excited you more.
“Rooster,” you said against his mouth as he breathed and rested his forehead against yours.
“I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me,” he said.
“It's okay,” you told him, holding his chin in your hands, your finger tracing a side of his upper lip, his moustache soft. He was sinfully good looking, it wasn’t the worst thing that had happened tonight.
“I shouldn't have done that here.”
“It's just a New Year's kiss,” you lied for both of you as he nodded, his eyes searching yours, looking for a hint that the kiss meant a damn sight more than fucking New Year.
“Do you believe that?” he dared ask and let his hands drift to your rib, his thumbs rubbing against the side of your tee, dangerously close to your bra.
You shook your head. “Not at all,” you admitted, an easy smile gracing your features and you tenderly traced his strong nose, both of you relaxing a little.
“This is the first time we've done something like this in front of everyone,” he said to you quietly. “Well, around others.”
“No one saw us,” you reassured him. “It’s okay.”
“You think?”
“The professional levels have definitely been crossed,” you parroted what you'd teased Callie of earlier.
“They crossed months ago, sweetheart. The first time we slept together,” he gently reminded you, a wet smirk crossing his face. “Why were you on a date tonight?”
“Because you were on a date before Christmas,” you threw back at him. If you were only sleeping together, what did it matter?
“I don't want us dating anyone else except each other anymore,” he confided lowly. “I know the rules were only sex, but you know. I know. It's a lot more than that now.”
“You got feels,” you teased him as he chuckled quietly and shrugged.
“Something like that. I don’t want to date anyone else. I want to take you on dates and not leave your bed after we cum.”
“You’ve been sleeping over for weeks,” you reminded him and the feeling of waking up in Rooster’s strong arms enveloped you with warmth.
“I don’t want to go sleep in a cold bed when I can stay with you,” he said softly, his hands lacing around your breasts, his thumb combing against your bra he wanted to rip off you,
You nodded solemnly. For you, it was months ago when you realised how truly wonderful Rooster Bradshaw was and though sleeping together muddied the waters, you couldn't stay away from him.
He smoothed your hair behind your ear and sighed. “I really want this.”
“Me too. No more dates with others, no more fucking around.”
He nodded. “I’m all in,” he told you, kissing you again. “Can we get out of here?”
“Yeah, let’s go find where else the glitter has lodged itself,” you said as he laughed and kissed you deeply.

dear @i-got-hit-by-a-planet, happy holidays!!! this is my gift for you from the @mcytblrholidayexchange, I hope you like it! :D
beta-ed by @rutellingmeashrimpfriedthisrice tysm for your help!
Summary: Joel and Scar travel the kingdoms selling crystals reputed to give magical properties. Their caravan is always ready for a hasty getaway, for no particular reason.
text under the cut if you prefer:
So, against the odds, it continues...
It starts when Joel tries to sell magic beans to Scar, desperate and not very convincing, and gets an offer of partnership instead. Joel has his reservations at first, but—as previously mentioned—he's desperate. They end up working well together; Scar with his charisma and Joel with his easygoing nature, and when it comes to it, brute force.
The caravan swings off the main path and through what feels like a wall of fully-grown berry bushes, then slows to a stop. The horses snort in protest, Scar exclaims "oh, goodness me!" from inside, and Joel grumbles as he dismounts; was that really a path?
Nevertheless, it appears they have arrived in the Fairy Fort. An abandoned stronghold of a faction long disbanded, nature has overtaken the castle that once stood on the hill. Superstitions and legends spread like wildfire here, and no traveller dares cut back the brambles in the way of its eastern entrance for fear of retribution.
Joel picks the more stubborn branches from his hair and surveys the clearing they're in. It's surrounded by eerily skeletal oak trees, the occasional leaf clinging valiantly to its branch, but the denseness of the trees more than makes up for the thin foliage. Only dappled patches of sunlight reach the forest floor, which is patterned with red and brown mushrooms.
He spots a circle of them ringed by darkened grass and carefully gives it a wide berth as he checks on the horses. Forget superstitions, what were they thinking, letting horses trample through that mess?
The horses have stopped but not stilled. They don't seem hurt, fortunately, pawing at the ground with their hooves. Emerging from within the caravan, Scar slips past Joel to pet them and thank them for their work.
"Who's a good horse?" he croons, running his fingers through their manes. "You are, yes you are."
"Am I, Scar? I didn't know that." Joel asks, amused. He can't help it, really, and laughs when Scar yelps and flails, turning around with a hand on his heart.
"Joel, you can't do that to a man!" he protests. Joel holds his hands up in apology, shaking his head.
"Sorry, sorry!"
After a brief rest, they continue deeper into the grove, proceeding more cautiously. The horses rear occasionally, whinnying at something unknown. Joel hangs strings of bells on the reins, and sews protective charms into Scar's and his clothes. It doesn't hurt to be careful; they're here because they're greedy, not because they have a death wish.
They pass a large swathe of land ravaged by a forest fire. Scorch marks reach up the stumps of trees left behind, soot and ash painting the area in streaks of grey. The air is oddly warm, too, as if the fire had just recently been extinguished instead of having burnt out ages past. Legend has it, this is the place where the undead witch Cleo had her fiery revenge against those who wronged her.
But the place isn't only defined by the legends hanging over it. There's a thriving community of people—who are, presumably, not fairies—set up in the town. It's almost worth the rough journey over, Joel thinks, as they settle into a cosy inn for a meal. Laughter and chatter fill the room, and after they've overcome their reservations about fairy food, it's the most relaxed they've been in weeks. Joel blows the steam off a warm bowl of mushroom stew as Scar charms the diners beside them, pitching an array of protective crystals set into lockets, bracelets, and rings.
They don't need to know the iron chains cost more than the centrepieces. At least they aren't really lying when they say their wares can protect them; iron does help against the fairies reputed to live here. Scar's doing them a favour, frankly.
Speaking of whom, Scar's pitch has progressed from fanciful to outright unbelievable as he gets caught up in the delights of storytelling, and Joel quickly sets down his bowl to intervene.
And continues...
The wheels of the caravan clatter over the uneven path, rocking it from side to side. Leaning against one window, Scar peers outward to the forest. They are departing the kingdom of BEST, pockets heavy with swindled gold, and Scar can't help but whoop in delight. A passing wind sweeps away the sound and loses it amongst the rustling of leaves.
The farther out of BEST territory they go, the sparser the leaves become. Evergreen spruce trees melt into dry, barer branches as the deciduous oaks and birches shed their leaves in the winter wind. The movement of the caravan kicks up a cool breeze, and Scar fancies he sees snowflakes drifting along the chilly air. That is surely just his imagination, however; it is not that cold yet.
Ahead, Joel steers the horses to their next destination. He's humming, cheerful, as is usual after their customary stop at the town of Snowpeak. The people there come from all places, though the locals are used to their tricks. Joel cares more for the company; Etho the trickster is stationed at the Snow Fort, the fortress that gives the town its name. Scar, for his part, is happy to conduct dealings from the caravan alone while Joel attempts to charm Etho, or what Joel does.
There's an exclamation of surprise, and Joel tugs on the reins; the caravan lurches past a fallen tree. The pots by the window swing from their hooks and Scar rushes to their side, hands flying frantically. Ah, the hazards of a moving home.
He settles the assorted plants—succulents and kalanchoes, which will bloom in the springtime—and pats the ceramic pots as if to say "now stay put!".
Behind, the white walls of the Snow Fort are slowly fading into the mist. When the snow comes, it will gather on the spruce walkways and pile against calcite walls, letting the fortress live up to its name. Until then, the most arresting feature of the fortress is its soulsand defences, cleverly built under planks; they leave enemies stumbling while their allies skate past with charmed shoes. Scar has one of those, too—and plenty of fakes that he's sold to curious travellers and prying enemies.
Not that Scar takes sides, of course. No, no; he's completely independent... but Joel does, and Scar likes the leverage it gives him. (That, and he's afraid of Etho—though he'll never say that!)
And continues…
The smoky scent of gunpowder floats about him. Joel carefully transfers the explosive powder onto the waxed paper, holding his breath as the movement sends clouds of dust blossoming into the air. Gunpowder is volatile, light, and exceedingly easy to ignite. Joel resists the urge to brush the specks of grey from his sleeves; the slightest friction could set the whole thing off.
Later, when there isn't a full pouch of the stuff inches from him. Of all the ways to go, exploding because he couldn't stand getting his clothes dirty is not his preferred one.
He is in a clearing, a safe distance—he hopes—away from their caravan. Through the thick tree trunks, he can hear Scar humming to himself, though he has to strain his ears. Softer still is the sound of a campfire crackling, the contented neighing of horses, and the scratch of ink against paper as Scar writes. It's a domestic little scene that Joel can practically see, made familiar from years of travel, and he is struck with an intense, almost dizzying need to protect it.
Hence why he's doing this, he supposes. The vigilantes known as Smajor and Moon have been worrying at their heels, making trouble for the two of them. Joel intends to send them a message, and he's out of fancy paper, so explosions it is.
Joel reaches—slowly, holding his breath—for a piece of string. With a finger holding the paper in its folded position, he loops the string carefully around the package.
The rest of the mechanism is easy to assemble. The string is tied to a latch attached—say that ten times fast—to a spring, which holds a stopper linked to a string of fishing line in place. Ingenious, really. With the slightest step on the tripwire, the package of gunpowder will tear open and spill into the space between the open latch and the casing. The catch swings back due to the spring, which sparks against the gunpowder, and— boom.
Joel feels pretty pleased with himself for coming up with that. He divides the gunpowder into two packages and slots them into his bag with the rest of his materials. The wax will hopefully reduce any stray friction as he travels to the Scottage, where he'll set the whole thing up.
As he heads back to their campsite, he notices that Scar is indeed sitting by the fire. Joel lingers by the trees, bag hanging from a far branch as he starts brushing the last of the grey powder from his arms. There is a series of soft pops as they ignite, but in small quantities, they're harmless enough. Once he's satisfied, he retrieves his things and returns to his partner.
And continues...
Years ago, Scar took up lapidary on a whim, liking the process of shaping gems and jewels. He learnt how to use the files, templates, rock tumblers, and trim saws; charmed his way into an apprenticeship with a local jeweller. He handled rubies, emeralds, lapis, even a diamond or two. When the money ran low and the mines lost their wealth, it was just a switch to a cheaper, more brittle material.
Scar turns his attention to the pieces of glass in front of him. Or should he say, crystals? His newest batch: a dazzling array of crystals in pink, green, and violet. He picks one up to polish and smooths a finger over the natural-looking bevels. It really is his best work yet. He'd made them on the journey over, sanding and polishing each chunk of glass to a perfect shine.
It is tricky to write on a moving vehicle, though, which is why Scar leaves the intricate details till they arrive. Later comes the ribbons; gauzy, delicate, and most importantly, pretty.
In the lull between customers, or the quiet at the end of the day, he loops lengths of ribbon around each crystal and writes in shimmery ink on perfectly cut paper. Pretty little labels in a flowing script, making fantastical claims of the crystals' properties. Strength, Luck, Protection… Everyone underestimates the power of presentation, and Scar'll be damned if he doesn't use that to his advantage at every opportunity.
They've set up shop in Sunspark, a village on the outskirts of the Southlands. A sta-hall, Joel would call it, because "when in Rome", right?
At this time of day, the cobblestone streets are empty. The air is still, as if waiting with bated breath for something to break the silence. Seated at their stall, Scar watches the sun set slowly, dipping over the roofs of the houses across the square.
It's winter and the days have shortened. Golden light spills onto the counter, catches and refracts through the glass— through the crystals. It catches on Joel's hair as he ducks through the doorway.
"Hey, Scar," says Joel, sleeves rolled up and hair in a bun. His voice is lowered, like he has also sensed the hushed atmosphere. There's a clock swinging from his vest, delicate clockwork outlined in gold and lapis, small diamonds inset to act as miniature stars. It's extravagant and practical, exactly how Joel likes his possessions.
He checks it; the hand ticks closer to night. "Good day today… I'm thinking another day here and it'll be about time we pack up,"
"Yeah, yeah, absolutely," Scar agrees. He leans on the counter, attention drifting around the area. A crow pecks at a gap between the cobblestones, the clicks of its beak against stone echoing faintly.
There's a flicker of movement between the houses. Scar tenses. Joel follows his line of sight and swivels around, crouching slightly in preparation.
A strong wind whooshes past.
A man bursts from the shadows, cloak billowing in the wind. For a second, all Scar can see is a deep scowl and the glint of eyes under the hood. Then, he gasps as it is thrown back to reveal a very familiar face.
"Grian?" he can't help but exclaim. Scar knows him; Grian is one of five leaders of the Southlands' most notorious faction, a rowdy bunch called the Spyglasses. Apart from that, well, Scar may or may not have recognised Solidarity, another Spyglass, at his stall yesterday. And he may or may not have sold him... false goods. But that's neither here nor there!
Beside him, Joel yells, "What are you doing here?"
Grian skids to a stop, hair wild and eyes alight with righteous indignation. Scar recognises the look, because it's often directed at him by previous customers. He rises from his seat, readying himself to start running.
Before Grian can launch into a rant—Scar remembers those, too—he pauses and does a double-take. "Scar? Joel?"
"Yes, yes, we know each other's names; we're all very famous people." Joel sighs, waving aside Grian's spluttering objections. He pauses, feigns disinterest as he looks Grian up and down. "We're actually closed, you know, but we'll make an exception for you. I suppose."
"Why hello there, good sir," Scar sweeps into a bow obligingly. As always, Joel brings the managerial aloofness and Scar plays the friendly sales clerk. "May I interest you in some wares?"
"NO!" Grian shouts, laughter creeping into his voice regardless. "No, Scar, you cannot!"
He jabs a finger at Scar, sending Joel into raucous shouts of laughter. Grian slides a glare in his direction; Joel laughs harder. "You scammed Jimmy! Do you know how much I heard about you two liars and scoundrels today?"
"Nooo?" Scar tries for innocence. He knows how much Jimmy, code name Solidarity, talks when he's upset, indignant, or otherwise feeling wronged. That's why they like winding him up the most—and Grian's reactions are just the cherry on top.
Joel has quietened and slunk to Grian's back, a smirk splitting his face in two. There is no threat here, though they'll probably have to leave the town ahead of schedule if they've been discovered. If they can just redirect Grian's attention…
"A— a lot, alright? He won't stop going on about you and your protective crystals," Grian says, disdain dripping from the last two words. Joel makes elaborate gestures behind his back, culminating in a dramatic pantomime of his ears falling off his face from, presumably, Jimmy's constant talking. Scar stifles a snort.
"Wha—" Grian whirls around, suspicious, and sighs. "Very funny, Joel,"
When he turns back, the stall is empty—of both crystals and Scar himself. Joel's snickers linger as the pair melt swiftly into the shadows, disappearing down the winding streets to the sounds of Grian's screeching.
And continues...
For all the glamour of a life of trickery and travel, it has its mundane times. Now, as the first frost breaks across the land, their pace slows in concession to the dropping temperatures and Joel can't help but feel a little restless.
They are in the Southlands again—Amethyst's Peak, nestled deeper into the territory—because Scar has more contacts there. Joel wonders if they'll meet the Spyglasses again. It's too fun to mess with them, really; Grian's dramatic anger aside, they are actually quite friendly with the pair of conmen and there's no end to their shenanigans when they meet.
Business has slowed for Joel and Scar though, now that they have to operate on foot while the caravan is off for repairs. Joel wishes them luck with it; there are splinters and cracks and dirt in every corner, born of a year of constant travel.
In its absence, Scar has gotten them a place of sorts. It's a lovely house, charming even, and especially welcome on a cold day like this. Where the biting wind would have pried its way through the slats of the caravan, the brick and mortar of the house keeps the interior comfortably warm. Joel sits himself by the fireplace and wraps his hands around a mug of wine. Scar is sat by the window, nose practically pressed to the glass as he watches the snow pile on the street outside, falling in not so much flakes as clusters of snow.
"Scar..." Joel calls to him, tipping his head at an angle to stare sideways at his partner in crime. "I'm bored."
"Well, why don't you look at all this snow!" Scar suggests and turns to look at him, delight evident in the expressive flying of his hands. Joel doesn't want to look at some boring snow. Plus, he's still shivering from that morning, when a sudden heavy snowstorm sent them sprinting across the street back to shelter.
He says as much to Scar, concluding with a pout, "And I didn't get to buy those books, even though I've been looking bloomin' everywhere for those!"
"Hey, that's not too bad!" Scar says. His hands fly some more. "We can go back tomorrow, if you like."
"Yeah, tomorrow, while a sheet of solid ice falls on our head out there." Joel retorts sarcastically. Scar follows his gaze out the window, where the thick flurry of snow blocks out the street. The glow of lanterns shines weakly through the onslaught; still, it is hard to even make out the silhouettes of the houses opposite.
"…You have a point." He concedes.
"But I'm about to go mad here; what can we even do?"
"That's the question, isn't it, Joel?" Scar sighs. There's a certain distant quality to his sigh that suggests Joel is in for a long speech. "I don't have the faintest clue. We've been on the road for so long—don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change that at all—but now that it has been changed, Joel, against our will; we are at a loss. Perhaps we've gotten too used to the rapid pace of…"
"Let's play cards," Joel heads off the incoming introspection. He searches his bag—still unpacked, shoved into the closet while they took in as much of the town before winter hit in full force—for a deck. Scar abandons a sweeping gesture and hurries to his side, making grabby hands for the cards.
They don't get to the 'playing' aspect of playing cards. Scar is too engrossed in shuffling them in increasingly elaborate ways, and Joel eggs him on and attempts to vanish an ace up his sleeve. Still, amidst the falling card towers and the scattered cards of a failed shuffling, the snow gathers around them.
Joel cuts the deck of cards again and starts anew. He thinks of winter days and sunny laughter, of endless unlikely tales and the clink of glass-turned-crystal. His pocket watch ticks on, counting the seconds until they're ready to go on the road again. Together— always.

Pick a song for each letter of your URL, and then tag that many people! @esskuesli thank you for the tag!!! I did this once before and goddamn the x is so hard, so I'm doing italimiks instead (that lets me put in an extra song as well 😈) It was very interesting to see how my music taste has changed already since last time I did this
Idemo do hodnika by Buč Kesedi: I had listened to this one a bunch already when I was listening to the entire album but ever since Kris mentioned it was his most streamed song of the year it has been on repeat
Tous les mêmes by Stromae: relatively old but such a banger. This feels like such a basic choice but I like it so much
A sem ti povedal by Joker Out: I try to put max 1 Joker Out song in these things but I'm so glad I had an A for ASTP ❤️
Lone Digger by Caravan Palace: Not for super deep reasons or anything, I have had this song on loop a lot and most of the time that puts me off a song for a while but with this one I don't mind if it comes one even after hearing it a LOT
I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE by Måneskin: Kinky banger, what else could I possibly want?
Mekano (originally by Konstrakta, but specifically the Filip Baloš cover): god this song is such a vibe and looking at the lyrics they are so good too: dva dana pet dana dva dana pet dana dva dana... time is a loop and we're constantly running and I also want everything to be so damn soft for a change
I wanna be yours by Arctic Monkeys: I have been listening to a lot of Arctic Moneys again lately. The only negative is that I first listened to this album on loop when I was also in a days deep Sims 4 play session so listening to it does sometimes put images of spinning green crystals in my head 😭
Kiertävä Sirkus by Käärijä: A banger by Käärijä, I love it and it is one of my sisters favorites so we listened to it together while doing the dishes on holiday. Each one earbud just rocking out to Käärijä while the people around us have no idea what we're listening to
Samo Otrok by Masayah: god I love Masayah's music so goddamn much and I need her to become more popular because there's so little translations of her songs and I am in the trenches trying to translate them with my limited Slovene knowledge. Zavedno is probably my favorite song of hers at the moment, but I sadly don't have a Z in my url
I'm tagging @jerichoes (bc I'm curious if and how your taste has changed as well) @seokoilua @thanatos-zagreus-shagreus @flapdr0l @misterybusiness @skylightdistraction @greencow and @luadusk

So.... I signed up just to talk to you about your UK visit recs hahaha. Don't know if I'm even messaging you properly. This is Winterine from ao3, but annoyingly someone took that name here and I cbb going for variants when I am pretty sure I was the original Winterine lol. But yes, realistically, I'm planning to head to the UK for a big solo walk/cycle tour or historical/interesting/spooky/beautiful/natural places maybe 2025 or 2026 after I finish uni, I'm thinking around April-May ish. Keen to hear what you think I should see/do, or if I should go at a different time of year etc.
I honestly think April/May is the best time to visit because it's out of the main tourist season and the weather is starting to get better. Don't get me wrong, it will rain, but it won't be as cold and miserable, or as hot and miserable 😂.
I definitely got carried away listing places, but I figured if I listed everything and why, you'd be able to pick and choose what sounds best to you
Scotland:
- Inverness and Loch Ness: I was obsessed with the Loch Ness monster as a kid which is one of the main reasons I visited, but Inverness is also a really beautiful town and there's a lot of walks/hikes nearby
- Glen Coe, Fort William, Ben Nevis, and Glenfinnan viaduct: we did all these in the same day, but we were driving and didnt actually walk up Ben Nevis. Glen Coe is a place that looks as close to lord of the rings as you can get outside of New Zealand, there's plenty of hikes/bike routes through it. Fort William is a little town directly at the bottom of Ben Nevis, so it's a good place to see/climb the mountain, and there's also hikes/bike routes. The Glenfinnan viaduct is most famous from Harry Potter, but it's also a really pretty place full stop.
- Oban and the Isle of Mull: Oban is a historic seaside town that's famous for it's whiskey distillery (which I recommend the tasting at) and seafood. There's a ferry that runs several times a day to the Isle of Mull, which has plenty of great places to visit, lots of hikes/bike routes.
- Edinburgh: it's honestly one of my favourite cities and looks exactly like it does in pictures. There's a lot of history and literary influence, and I highly recommend Armchair Books, which is a little second hand book shop. The castle is also worth visiting.
Wales:
-Snowdonia and Mount Snowdon: absolutely loads of hikes/bike routes, but if you don't want to walk up Snowdon, there's a little railway that I highly recommend. Because Snowdon used to be under the sea, it's also possible to find marine invertebrate fossils at the top.
- Llandudno: most famous as where Alice in Wonderland was written/inspired. But also a great little seaside town
- New Quay: lovely little coastal town with loads of walks/bike routes around it
-St David's: the UK's smallest city, very pretty and lots of hikes/bike rides around
-Portmeirion: this is, hands down, one of the strangest places I've ever been. It's basically a fake town that was used as a set for the TV show The Prisoner, but it's now a tourist attraction. I can't really describe what it's like, just very fantastical and strange, it even has a pet cemetery
England:
(The Peak District and London I've done as separate lists at the bottom due to all of the places I recommend in them)
-The Lake District: absolutely loads of walks/hikes/bike routes. Very picturesque and there's a lot to do and see. It's also where Beatrix Potter wrote all of her books so there's a lot of Peter Rabbit related stuff around.
-Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne: there's lots of hikes/bike routes through Northumberland, but I think Bamburgh Castle is worth a visit, it's been used in a lot of films. Lindisfarne is an island that used to be home to monks, they brew their own mead and its the first place the vikings landed in Britain.
-Scarborough, Whitby, and Robin Hoods Bay: these places encompass my childhood because we used to go on caravan holidays with my granddad every year. This whole stretch of coast is very good for walks/bike routes. Scarborough is a very stereotypical English seaside town with amusements and 2p machines, but Anne Brontë is buried there and it actually has a lot of history. Whitby is one of my favourite places on earth, not only because of its ties to Bram Stoker, Dracula and goths, but it's also very historic and the abbey is incredible. The kippers and fish and chips at the Magpie Cafe are a must. Robin Hoods Bay is a tiny little village that it really picturesque and has a history of smugglers.
-York: very historic, very old English. There's loads of tea rooms, interesting shops, second hand book shops and there's even a shop where you can buy your own little York ghost friend.
- Manchester, Leeds, and Sheffield: lumping these three together, and no one can get mad as me for it because I'm originally from one of them 😂. All of these cities have changed a lot from when I was a kid and all now have thriving food and drink scenes. But they're also all historic centres of industry. Manchester used to be a textile capital of the world, Leeds is known for it's engineering and canals, and Sheffield was vital to the war effort due to it's steel production. Depending on what interests you, they're all worth a look.
-Birmingham: not just for peaky blinders! Birmingham actually has more canals than Venice and a lot of industrial history. It's also got a thriving food and drink scenes and a lot of shopping locations.
-Cambridge: I've only been once, when I toured the uni when I was applying at 17, but it's very picturesque and has a lot of history. Ngl, some of the people can be quite snobbish and very stereotypical posh English.
-Winchester: old historic town, famous for it's Cathedral but also as where Jane Austen lived and died. There's a lot of literary influence and a lot of amazing book shops.
-Weston-super-Mare, Wells and Glastonbury: Weston-super-Mare is another old, typical English seaside town like Scarborough, but it has an absolutely massive beach so people flock to it in summer. Wells is a little town, most well known for the cathedral and the location Hot Fuzz was set and shot in. It's definitely worth a visit. Glastonbury outside of the festival season is a lovely place with lots of hikes/bike routes and a lot of history.
-Plymouth and Cornwall: again, only been once due to how far it is from home, but I'm actually going again this week for my mum's birthday. Plymouth has a lot of naval history and I'm planning on going to the National Marine Aquarium Thursday which is supposed to be amazing. The only place in Cornwall I've been is Looe, but I highly recommend it as it's so pretty.
-Jurassic Coast: including Weymouth, Lulworth and Durdle Door in this. All very picturesque and where the bulk of UK fossils are found. There's absolutely loads of hikes/bike paths along this coast
-Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch: Bournemouth is mainly known for it's huge beach, Poole is where the RLNI headquarters are and where Lush was founded, and Christchurch is just very picturesque.
-Portsmouth: where the UK navy is based. Very historic and very flat for walking/biking. Where D-Day was launched from and the D-Day museum is worth a visit. Was also home to Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle and Rudyard Kipling. Has a good independent book shop called pigeon books.
The Peak District:
(Growing up so close to it, I have a lot of recommendations, hence the separate category 😂)
(There are hikes/bike trails between most of these places, with apps/guides online for the most popular routes)
-Bakewell: very picturesque, old English town. But obviously you have to try the tart! I recommend trying both the tart and the pudding
-Castleton: another picturesque little town, but it's also full of caves you can go down, one of which was used for the gringotts scenes in Harry Potter. Lots of good pubs for a pint as well.
-Cavedale: very lord of the rings looking picturesque walk, but it's personally one of my favourites because it's where Wesley rolls down the hill while yelling "as you wish!" in the Princess Bride
-Hathersage: lots of great pubs, cafes and restaurants
-Scrivener's books and bookbinding: multi-leveled second hand bookshop in Buxton.
-Chatsworth House: old manor house with huge grounds. The house and gardens are worth visiting to walk around. JFK's sister is buried across the road in the little village of Edensor. But I honestly love visiting because it's used as Pemberly in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice.
-Lady Bower Reservoir: on the route of a lot of hikes, it's where the Dambusters practiced dropping the bouncing bombs during the war
-Eyam: the first place to social distance and lockdown during the Black Death, lots of history there.
-Padley Gorge: also looks like something out of lord of the rings
London:
Museums: most museums in London are free, but you can book tickets online and not have to queue.
-The natural history museum (my all time favourite museum, especially as a biologist)
-The science museum (right next to NHM)
 -V&A (across the road from NHM and SM, mainly art and design.
-The British museum (great if you were an ancient Greek or Egypt nerd as a kid (or if you still are))
-The Royal Naval College and National Maritime Museum (in Greenwich and where the second Thor was filmed)
-The Tower of London (where the crown jewels are held, they are wonky, it pissed me off 😂)
Bookshops:
-Hatchards (oldest bookshop in the UK, five floors of books).
-Waterstones Piccadilly (just down the street from Hatchards, absolutely massive)
-Gays the Word (oldest LGBT bookshop in the UK, setting of the film Pride)
-Daunts Books (technically a travel bookstore, but it has other stuff as well. One of the prettiest book shops I've ever been to)
-Lutyens and Rubinstein (very pretty, had a bit of everything(
-Books for cooks (is only a cookbook shop, but it's honestly worth going for the experience because it's also a cafe that cooks from a different cookbook each month)
-The Nottinghill Bookshop (a bit of everything)
-Word on the Water (bookshop on a barge)
Markets:
-Borough Market (one of my absolute favourite places on earth, great for lunch or to pick up snacks)
-Camden Market (alternative fashion, art, music and good food)
-Eatly (near Liverpool Street station, it's an Italian market hall, also good for lunch/snacks)
-Spitlefields (food as well as shops, near eatly)
-Portobello Market (Nottinghill, only on certain days so make sure to check before going)
-Covent Garden (more high end shops, but it's nice to walk around)
Shops:
-Harrods (just worth going to look at the price tags and laugh 😂)
-Fortnum and Mason (just down from Hatchards, expensive food shop, but it's nice to look around in)
-Hamleys (huge toy shop, I haven't been in a while, but it used to be amazing as a kid)
Places that I just think are worth visiting:
-Russel square and Cafe Tropea, and Bloomsbury
-Hyde Park
-Walk down Knightsbridge just to see all the fancy cars
-The Wellcome Collective (cosmetic museum, but it has a reading room where it's free to sit and read)
-The Paddington statue in Paddington station
-You can walk up to Camden Market from London St Pancreas/Kings Cross Station via the regent's canal
I've sadly never been to Ireland, but I hope these are useful and you have a really good trip!!!

I was tagged by @lost-on-the-highway for a get-to-know-you tag game. The link to the (long, mind you) post chain is here.
Here is the format:
Name(s)
Pronouns
Star sign
# of siblings & fun facts about them (if you have any)
# of pets & their names
Fandoms
Favorite color
Favorite song
Favorite author (of anything readable-- books, fanfics, zines, webtoons, whatever!)
Hobbies
Favorite fic type
Favorite holiday
Do you have any partner(s)? (romantic, qpp, anything!)
Fun facts about you / anything extra you wanna share!
Here is my portion:
Name - You may call me Harley.
Pronouns - He/him, but it's not that big a deal. I'm fine with any.
Star sign - Aquarius (had to look it up).
# of siblings & fun facts about them - I do not have any siblings, unfortunately.
# of pets & their names - Sadly, I also do not have any pets. I wish I did. I'd love to get a cat.
Fandoms - Star Trek, PJO, Mother, Pokémon, Cuphead: Don't Deal With the Devil, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Deltarune, D&D (not sure if this is technically a fandom, but oh well), Gravity Falls... There are probably more, but I've forgotten about them.
Favorite color - Lavender, easily.
Favorite song - Wonderland by Caravan Palace.
Favorite author - Honestly, I have quite a few, but my favourite author as of late has got to be Aziz (@aziz-reads on Tumblr). I'm on their taglists for a couple WIPs, and I couldn't be having a better time reading the snippets she provides. I definitely recommend checking out Rise of the Mantis (it's my favourite so far).
Hobbies - In my spare time, I make wire jewelry, work in my garden, read, write, and create odd scripts or videos for my close friends to enjoy.
Favorite fic type - Dead Dove: Do Not Eat. Fics of this type give me better inspiration for my own than ones of other types, and I don't know why.
Favorite holiday - Halloween, hands down. But really, one shouldn't need an excuse to watch horror movies with friends or family.
Do you have any partner(s)? - I have a queerplatonic partner. I love them a whole lot, and couldn't ask for anyone better.
Fun facts - I started working on a certain analog horror series with someone before they knew my name. Completely by coincidence, they suggested giving one of the key characters my name. I've kept it, both because I find it hilarious to think I would survive for a second in the world the character is a part of, but also because I jokingly torment them about it. They're an excellent sport.
Tagging (with no pressure) @chauceryfairytales @voidismyhome @a-had-matter and anyone who would like to join!

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #05 – Part 2
Introductory post
Masterpost
🎪🐵👑 Five Go Off in a Caravan – Le Club des Cinq et les saltimbanques
Original publication date: 1946 (UK), 1965 (France)
Tumblr media
(Cover art by Jean Sidobre, 1976)
Here is Sidobre's art for Five Go Off in a Caravan/CC et les saltimbanques. You will find that the plot summary is a little more detailed than what I originally wrote for Part 1, as I needed more context to fit all the illustrations that I wanted to include. I also updated Part 1 with the newer, more detailed text -- use the link above if you want to go and have a look!
~~~~~~
Plot (adapted from Wikipedia):
The Famous Five are holidaying at the family house of Julian, Dick and Anne. They befriend an orphaned circus boy, Nobby, who is in a procession of horse-drawn circus caravans. This inspires George to suggest a caravanning holiday. Julian's parents assent and hire two caravans for the children.
Tumblr media
(Four cousins enjoying the start to their holidays)
Tumblr media
(This is the life!)
Tumblr media
(The circus caravans)
Tumblr media
(A headshot of Julian, Dick and Anne’s mother, which I think is the only illustration of her in the entire series!)
Tumblr media
(Onwards to adventure!)
Tumblr media
(Dick watches the horses enjoying a refreshing halt on their way to the camping place)
The Five travel to Merran Lake, where they are reacquainted with Nobby and meet various animals. The Five camp on a hillside, much to the annoyance of Nobby's guardian, Tiger Dan, and an acrobat named Lou, who want them to leave.
Tumblr media
(The circus camp)
Tumblr media
(The Five get to see some of the artists’ performing)
The Five and Nobby agree to a signalling system whereby Nobby can let the Five know when the coast is clear (i.e. when Tiger Dan and Lou are away) and that they can come down to the circus or to a nearby lake where they all have fun together.
Tumblr media
(The Five look out for Nobby’s signal)
Tumblr media
(The Five hike from their camping place down to the lake, while poor Timmy is left behind to watch over the caravans)
Tumblr media
(An invigorating bath!)
Tumblr media
(At the circus, the children meet Old Lady [Titan], a mischievous elephant – here playing with Nobby)
Tumblr media
(Old Lady also loves messing around with Pongo, Nobby’s pet chimpanzee)
Tiger Dan and Lou keep prowling around the children’s caravan, much to their annoyance. Suspecting foul play, they have their own look-around but find nothing. Ultimately they devise a plan in which the Five make it seem like they’re all going shopping to a nearby village, whereas Julian doubles back covertly to see what Tiger Dan and Lou are plotting.
Tumblr media
(The Five search around their campsite to try and figure out why Dan and Lou keep lurking about)
Tumblr media
(The Five make it seem like they’re all going on a shopping trip to the next village…)
Tumblr media
(… but Julian doubles back to see what Dan and Lou are looking for)
Julian discovers that one of the caravans is directly above the entrance to an underground passage, from which Tiger Dan and Lou emerge with two sacks of presumably stolen valuables.
On the next day, Julian, Anne, George and Timmy go to the next town to buy torches in order to explore the tunnels, while Dick, Nobby and Pongo are left behind to guard the caravans. Unfortunately, Tiger Dan and Lou come back, determined to bully their way in, but the boys and Pongo (mostly Pongo) manage to fend them off.
Tumblr media
(Dan physically abuses his nephew, a detail that has been expunged from later translations)
Tumblr media
(Dan gets his just deserts, courtesy of Pongo)
Tumblr media
(As a reward for his feat, George gives Pongo an old torchlight to play with – the chimp is delighted!)
The children explore the tunnel and follow it to a cache of stolen items and jewelry. But on their way back, they find that the entrance has been closed up with planks! They try to find another way out, following an underground stream, with no luck. At night, the villains come back to pick up their loot. Dick manages to sneak out and goes to a nearby farm to call the police.
Tumblr media
(Lost in the network of caves 😱)
Tumblr media
(Dick is the hero of the day!)
After the villains are arrested, Nobby leaves the circus to live with a local farming couple and look after their horses, which was his dream job.
~~~~~~
Thanks for reading!

Short Term Accommodation in Melbourne
If you’re thinking of starting a short term rental business, you should know the rules and regulations that apply in Victoria. These laws include zoning regulations for vacation rentals. They also specify that the place to be rented out must be the operator’s primary residence.
The Greens have urged the state government to regulate short stays as they reduce the availability of long-term rental homes. A statewide registration system and a 180-day cap could help address this issue.
Private landlords
When looking for short term accommodation Melbourne, you can choose from a range of private rental options. These include vacation rentals, serviced apartments and rent by owner homes. These are typically located in the city's inner and bayside suburbs. They provide privacy, space and a range of amenities, such as a fully equipped kitchen and laundry. They also offer connectivity benefits, making them ideal for business and travel.
Houses, flats and apartments are usually found through newspaper, online and real estate agent listings. You can also check university or TAFE websites and noticeboards for student housing. If you're an international student, it's a good idea to arrive in Melbourne at least a month before your course starts to inspect offers from the student housing database and apply for rental properties. In addition, you can look for share housing or house mates in the local area. Many of these homes will require a bond, and some may require a deposit.
Hotels and motels
If you are looking for a hotel in Melbourne for short term accommodation, there are many options available. You can find luxury hotels with modern amenities or budget-friendly options for extended stays. The best hotel in Melbourne will suit your needs and provide you with all the conveniences that you need.
One of the newer hotels in the city, the Olsen, is a boutique hotel that features rooms inspired by local artists. It is located in the Box Hill area, which is becoming the city’s “new Chinatown.” Its sleek interiors showcase artist Zhong Chen’s pixel portraits and ink-brush paintings.
Another new hotel in the city is the Lancemore, which offers boutique accommodations for travellers. It is situated on Crossley Street in the heart of the city, near top-tier restaurants and theatres. It also has a rooftop pool and lounge, and it offers a variety of packages depending on your needs. The hotel has a minimalist, sleek style, and its rooms feature rain showers.
Caravan parks
Caravan parks are ideal for travellers looking for a family-friendly short term accommodation option. They offer a range of facilities, from kids activities to well-equipped camp kitchens. Some also feature self-contained cabins and powered caravan sites. Some even have a swimming pool and a playground.
A popular choice is the Big 4 Coburg Holiday Park, which is located less than an hour from Melbourne’s major attractions. It offers a large selection of modern and luxury villas, apartment-style rooms and cosy log cabins. The park has a number of kid-friendly activities and is close to the Melbourne Star, the aquarium and loads of trendy cafes.
Another great option is the Big 4 Bellarine Peninsula Holiday Park. Located near the Mornington Peninsula, this park has deluxe one- and two-bedroom villas, spa cottages and powered caravan sites with en-suites. It also has a flying fox, BMX track and adventure playground. The park is also a good base for exploring the nearby beaches and markets.
Serviced apartments

These luxury apartments are furnished with all the necessities for a comfortable stay, including modern appliances and Wi-Fi access. Most serviced apartments also offer regular cleaning and room services. Some even allow pets, although it is important to check with the provider before booking.

Today was the usual mixed bag. Readmore for animal death (not my pets)
Ended the day with another Barbie bad cam viewing as a palette cleanser, noticed more outfits this time around. Such a delight.
Started the day with quick chores then tomorrow's grocery pickup by the replacement carer we managed to find for a full 2h a week 🙃. (Usually we pay someone happy to work off books but thought this agency might be a little more thoughtful). It just is, so we're making do.
I walked one dog after the other at daybreak. I've been slowly taming the very scaredy Gargouille, he now comes slowly close for scritches and a peanut.
Tumblr media
Yesterday someone left out a bunch of near new shoes and I carried them home (a small part of why my shoulder hurts) as they were roommate sized. She kept 4 pairs.
The rest was bagged and ready to go to the second hand store. I left the sandals, marrocan slippers and some large boots. As with all previous clothing or electronics dropoffs, they were thrown into the bin even though we have multiple clothes bins and second hand drop off points in town.
Tumblr media
I find that very odd, someone clearly wants to share their cast offs and someone else doesn't want that left out more than half a day and tosses it instead of using the two second hand stores (clothes are less than 5€ each like 5€ would be for a coat, the point is to reuse and teach folks repair)
On the second walk for Lily (i can't handle both dogs, they both walk very differently because of the age difference and both have strong temperaments), the walk goes by the cemetery and sis had said she'd seen someone complain about a dead cat. So I went to the bins opposite the gate and there he was, a large ginger cat, flattened by a car and rotting under the bins. We're supposed to take them to the vets for incineration but I'm not able to and he'd been there a while. I acted on instinct, grabbed him with a dog poop bag and placed him inside the bin 1 and started looking for bags to wrap him in. In bin 3 there was a ripped bag of school papers and junk so i emptied it out and gently placed the cat in it, tied knots in the top and tear. It's not the burial or sanitary incineration he deserves but it felt so disrespectful to see him just decaying on the tarmac.
Bin 2 contained 2 stainless steel branded dog bowls - they'll go to one of the local animal rescues. I didn't dig further, I was feeling drained from a dozen different emotions about that ginger cat. This is a caravan parking lot on weekends so it could have been from abandoned dogs. We're a small tourist town on the road to large tourist destinations.
Last week I found a muzzle and collar at the car wash and I don't know if it's one of the dogs that's been spotted loose in town. Animal control has already caught two who are now up for adoption since vacations started in july. The stray cats and dead cats are adding up as people who rent their house out for the summer leave for *their* vacations and holiday makers drop off their cats during a pit stop.
They'll probably do another massive "catch, spay and release" for the cat population in autumn.
As much as I rant about outdoor cats killing wildlife and our neighbours who let their dog roam at night (she's a sweetie who sits most of that time on their doorstep), the fact is that it's easier to talk about than the culture of disposing of pets. Even if the best case scenario works out, it's a huge amount of volunteer work and the new owners have to discover the animals quirks and fears instead of a simple form and a small fee when you surrender them.
The law is very slowly catching up.
I'm far happier with the new age of no-consent laws but it would be nice to see some lawmaking about pet owning : some basics to agree to before you buy and fines for not just the cruelty but the chaos for animal control, drivers, vets and shelters during the summer hols.
I got Lily in july 8 years ago from a local shelter. Talia was a surrender to the same shelter around Christmas. So so so worth the expenses and work.
