Pete and I have been on the road almost a week now, and we are one more short push from our destination: Rapid City, SD. Every day since we left has been 100 degrees or more as we have been crushing through the merciless desert. A few days ago while in Nevada, I remembered Great Basin National Park- and the cool and crisp high altitude temps were too much to resist, so we detoured and spent two nights up there. It was worth it. Here, Pete gives no f*cks about being at 10,000 elevation, and hucks air to catch a perfect spiral. We played endlessly- and I have never seen him pant so hard in the thin air. Gasping and breathing for air as my heart nearly beats out of my chest in the alpine is one of my favorite feelings in life, and it was dope to see him sucking air and having an absolute blast his first time up at altitude. @hikingwithdogs_ #PeterTheHeeler (at Great Basin National Park)

#6 is kayaking Center Lake with @petertheheeler in Custer State Park during sunset. We drove the van up to South Dakota to meet @chrisbrinleejr and ended up doing a bunch of rad stuff, but this took the cake. Pete is terrified of water, which is my fault because his first experience with water was when I threw him into the deep end of our pool in LA thinking that all dogs love swimming... all dogs can definitely swim- but they definitely don’t all ‘love it’... He was pretty freaked out in the @orukayak at first, but after a while he totally relaxed and it made for a pretty special experience. Spent a couple days sampling J Tree weather with @joseromero93 and @petertheheeler this weekend. We had a mini window of low and perfect temps, plus there was barely anybody in the park. I don't think I've ever seen Hidden Valley so empty! We pulled up and got a campsite right under the Space Station, scrambled around, and ate like kings. South Dakota is honestly a place I never thought I would see. Never even considered it as a destination. @chrisbrinleejr an @petertheheeler and I had an absolute blast over the last week, and I'll definitely visit again! Stoked to share some stories from this trip! For over a decade, going all the way back to my teenage days in metal bands; the goal was always there: get a van- and bounce. I finally did it, and I can't wait to hit the road w/ @petertheheeler and climb all over the place. I have been away from home for over 40 days, and traveled over 3000 miles with different people in different vehicles- and now the maiden voyage of Vanleyc will take me home. But first: @kevinsnothere and I are gonna wreak havoc on the strip one more time tonight- to end this absolutely insane adventure with a bang.
