(Obligatory "I sound like I'm speaking objectively from authority but this is just my opinion and it's okay for you to like media I dislike for whatever reasons you may have")
Okay so like. while "the minecraft move trailer is so bad that it makes minecraft story mode look good in comparison" is both true and funny, can we please not start pretending that story mode is a well-crafted piece of media. as someone who has played through it multiple times (first when it originally came out and I was 12 and thought it was awesome, then later as an interactive Netflix experience with friends for so-bad-it's-good reasons) I feel pretty qualified to say it blows
Like, yes. There are so many things that MCSM got right that the movie apparently got wrong. But, like, they're all extremely common-sense things to get right -- like having the whole thing be animated, and maintaining a visual style that feels consistent with minecraft, and spending time with individual aspects of the minecraft experience that have their own communities (like redstone contraptions). that sense seems a little less common now that the movie trailer exists, but still, these are all bare minimum expectations of a piece of narrative-driven media set in Minecraft.
MCSM still completely fails, however, to have any compelling characters (RIP Reuben you were just as annoying as everyone else) or non-grating dialogue. The universe they depict isn't even well thought out! Like, okay, example:
Right off the bat, they make a big decision about how they're going to handle MCSM: they are not telling a story about people playing Minecraft the video game, but are instead depicting a universe where Minecraft is inhabited by a civilization of NPCs that have identical abilities to a player (aside from like, pausing the game or changing settings or what have you). This, in itself, is not a bad decision, but it puts the writers in a position where they need to conceptualize what is effectively a Minecraft AU. You're not playing survival mode or creative mode, you're playing Story mode. In this AU, humans exist in the minecraft world and have for a long time (centuries, at least?), they've built cities, they have language, etc. Imagine you're Jesse. Imagine you've grown up inside of Minecraft. Everyone is playing on hardcore, there is no respawning, and you live in a world filled with strange and dangerous creatures that seem hell-bent on killing you. Why the Fuck does anyone go out at night. Why isn't literally everyone combat-trained. Why is Jesse acting like he's never seen a Creeper before. Why is Petra the only member of the main party who knows how to craft a pickaxe.
At the build competition, the party is surprised that the reigning building team has a beacon. But nobody takes a second to actually investigate what that means. Did their team intentionally spawn and defeat a Wither? Doesn't that make them more badass and legendary than the order of the stone? Is there a black market for nether stars? (I think Petra is probably the one who gave them the beacon since she also trades Ivan a Wither skull. But like. Why isn't literally anyone else just going and doing what Petra does. Why aren't they impressed)
Ivan having access to a Command Block is also insane. Like, it has potential to be an extremely cool choice -- did Ivan find a way to break the fourth wall? Did he find an exploit in Minecrafts code that allowed him to obtain this? The command block has the power to just generate resources out of thin air. Ivan could actually use it to become a god and give himself creative mode. But okay, we can assume that the command block is just... Different, in the AU. Fine. It's a computing center / power core for the Wither Storm. Sure
But, like. I, even as an 11 year old, knew everything there was to know about minecraft when I played story mode (and, unlike the Movie, MCSM was actually attempting to appeal to the existing fanbase), so watching these characters who have lived for DECADES within the Minecraft universe just. Be helpless and completely clueless as to how the universe works? It makes me hate like all of them. I don't care about Jesse or Gabriel and if I actually had the freedom to perform the basic actions I could perform in Minecraft -- mining, building, and crafting -- I could use my game knowledge to pretty swiftly end the entire conflict at like any point in the story. And I'm not very good at video games. But I would expect a character who's been LIVING IN THE MINECRAFT WORLD TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. BECAUSE THEY'D BE BETTER AT MINECRAFT THAN ANY OF US.
The whole thing is a contrived and buggy mess that feels like it was written by a Hollywood CEO who watched someone play the game for 30 minutes, looked up some basic information like how to beat the game and whether there's any in-game lore, and then riffed on that until a script outline was finished. The programmers, visual artists, and composers clearly did a ton of work to make MCSM feel like minecraft. And they did a good job -- clearly, a much better job than the Movie is going to do. But that doesn't change the fact that the Story -- the focal element advertised in the title -- completely misses the fucking mark and centers around a group of characters who are largely incompetent and stupid in an unfunny and uninteresting way. MCSM was a shitty cashgrab by telltale games and I am not apologizing to it.

does anyone think about Minecraft Story Mode and thunk about how... Jessie kinda never gets angry?
Of course they can if you pick the jerkass option, but they kinda never get angry on their own
(Using they/them pronouns for Jessie so imagine whichever Jessie comes to mind. Ramble under the cut)
Notice how basically everyone has their moment of despair or anger. Like with Lukas' outburst in episode three, Olivia's moment of self doubt because Ellegaard was an asshole to her and she doubts her own abilities because of what she said, Axel and Lukas being at each other's throats for a bit, Petra as a whole.
Everyone has a moment like that.
Except for Jessie.
Sure there are moments when they're a tad snippy. Such as her wrestling for the amulet when Lukas is trying to take it, making a snide remark towards Aiden. And that's basically all I have.
But wouldn't it be great if Jessie finally snapped. It doesn't matter what you choose, what you make them say, it's inevitable. I would eat that shit up. It could be when the pressure of being a new leader, and the group is constantly questioning or flat out not listening. It could be during Petra's outburst in episode seven when she's annoyed with Jessie calling the shots.
"Yeah Petra you're right. I'm sure you could do sooooo much better than me, just ignore the fact that I'm at least trying my best why don't you? But suuuure, you decide where we go next! You're choice."
It could be as late as season 2. Where after years of bottling up everything, it's basically second nature at this point to just push everything aside.
I'm gonna be honest I don't really know much about season 2 so I'll just leave it at that.
Have Jessie be mad at Ivor during the portal arc. Ivor was the one who made the insanely powerful monster that killed so many people, including Reuben. Their best friend.

Scene below takes place in my Minecraft Story Mode Rewrite, Episode Three.
“Hey, Lukas,” Jesse said. “What’s your deal with Soren?”
Lukas snorted, crossing his arms and leaning even further against the wool tree that kind of had the lever Jesse needed to use.
“What do you mean?” Lukas asked, although there was a sarcastic tint to his voice that meant he knew exactly what Jesse meant.
Jesse sighed, running their hand through their hair. “Do you see anyone else throwing a tantrum because we’re in a very fake version of the overworld?”
If possible, Lukas’ glower worsened. “First of all, don’t call it a tantrum. That’s just degrading. Second of all, the world is literally coming to an end, and we have to drag this guy back there. What do you think that says about his work ethic?”
Jesse bit the inside of their cheek. “Have you considered he just doesn’t know about what’s going on outside?”
Lukas laughed derisively. “Have you considered that heroes should pay attention to this sort of thing?”
Jesse’s chest ached at the words. They hated that there was a glimmer of truth in Lukas’ words, that the Order really hadn’t been living up to the expectations that they had set them up for.
“That’s not fair,” Jesse tried. “People are allowed to retire.”
“Sure,” Lukas said. “They’re allowed to retire, so that means they leave it to a bunch of unqualified young adults to fix their mess?”
“They didn’t start the Witherstorm.” Jesse tried not to think about their own hand in the catastrophe currently happening.
“Their drama with Ivor did.”
Jesse sighed, glancing at the lever that Lukas was still leaning against. They glanced back at Petra, who was sitting underneath her own fake tree, looking exhausted.
“Don’t let Petra hear you say she’s unqualified,” Jesse muttered. “I know you’ve been busy doing... whatever you’ve been doing with your life, but Petra and I have been training--”
“To take down a monster eating our world?” Lukas asked sarcastically. “Good to know.”
“Ouch,” Jesse said. They sighed. “Look, I just wanted to see what was eating you. Also... there’s a lever. Behind you.”
Lukas glanced at the lever. “Oh, I know.”
Jesse gave him a deadpan look. “So... can I get to it?”
Lukas shrugged. “Soren’s smarter than you give him credit for. The door isn’t going to open because of a very obvious lever.” A darker look came across his face. “I just say we break the wall.”
“We can’t break someone else’s property, Lukas,” Jesse said exasperatedly.
“According to you,” Lukas muttered.
“You were the one who was yelling at Aiden for trying to destroy Olivia’s build at the competition.” And didn’t that feel like a lifetime ago?
“That was completely different.” Lukas pushed himself off of the wool tree. “But fine. Be my guest.”
Jesse flipped the lever. The cloud lit up completely.
A door opened on the other side of the room, revealing another puzzle.
“I told you,” Lukas muttered.
Jesse gave him a dirty look.
Lukas sighed. “Look, I’m sorry. I know I’ve been... a jerk lately. Just... I kind of hate Soren, and between the world ending, and Petra’s sickness--”
“You know about that?” Jesse interrupted, trying to keep the surprise out of their voice.
“It was pretty obvious,” Lukas said. His scowl melted away, replaced by worry. “Can’t we try to give her some potions? Milk?”
“Tried that already,” Jesse said, grimacing. “Unless Ivor has some secret cure in his pocket--”
“He probably does,” Lukas said.
“Yeah, well, he’s not giving it to us.” Jesse tried not to let their own worry make them throw up all over poor Lukas. “The most I can do is to keep her from straining herself, which is, well...”
“Impossible,” Lukas supplied, his eyes shining with understanding. “Well, you don’t have to help her alone. I can help.”
Jesse smiled gratefully. “Thanks.” they shuffled away awkwardly. “I should, uh, get back to puzzle solving.”
Lukas raised his eyebrows. “I think Olivia has already gotten some of it.”
Jesse turned around, and, sure enough, Olivia was beaming over a solved puzzle.
“Great!” Jesse smiled. “The more help we get, the faster we can get to your least favorite person.”
“Yay,” Lukas said dully, although there was less frustration in his voice than before.

Mcsm Characters Good to Evil
(Based on the WickedBinge Tradition)
For the few people who asked, I decided to break down every character in Story Mode to decide who is the most virtuous and who is the most evil. Deciding this is hard for anything, so I'll try to explain my reasonings as much as I can.
Oh yeah, and with only a few exceptions, I'm not going to address animal characters unless they have a significant role, and I'll try to add as many characters as I can, but I'm not going to waste time with NPCs that only have like, one or two interactions. Because you really think there would be much go off of with those guys?
I mean, the lady who paints with her feet could be a criminal mastermind for all we know!
I'm also not going to address characters we haven't seen on screen, but get mentioned, because we've never met them in the present day. So don't expect to see the characters like Fred or Vos anywhere on this list.
Regardless, here's my list on Minecraft Story Mode characters: Good to Evil:
I'll start with the most noble characters, the heroics and also the casual goods, AKA, The Good Guys:
1: Reuben
Yeah... y'all saw this coming. As a pig, Reuben has done so much nobility, and you can argue that he kept the whole team together from his determination and his empathy. He's also one of the most selfless and defensive characters as well, and of course did one of the most heroic things in the entirety of the series that costed his life, without hesitation. Granted Reuben is kind of a no-nonsense pig, and isn't afraid to be defensive every once in awhile, and even aggressive, but granted, it's done either to help his friends or to because it's how a runt like him survives, and I don't blame him for that. Reuben, in short, truly deserves better.
2: Radar
This kid is a bundle of heroism and innocence, and you may not think of that at first when looking at this intern. However, it goes to show how dedicated and caring he is towards BeaconTown, and towards Jesse, putting his own interests aside to do what he believed was right, even if some of his persona's are... questionable. Even then though, he always has the intention to do the right thing, and ends up doing that at the end, finding his own independence in the process. Radar had always been a sweet kid, and has never resented his job or his responsibility, never blaming anyone for anything other than himself. He may be a second class citizen in an obsessed world, but Radar ultimately finds himself and becomes a hero in his own way, and eventually he even becomes the new Hero in Residence.
3: Lukas
Lukas was easily the most misunderstood character in all of Story Mode, both in cannon and from a writing standpoint. Addressing cannon for this list, Lukas was a part of a building group that had won so many times, and Lukas pretty much had everything handed to him on the spot, plus he's friends with people who let that get into their heads. You'd think Lukas would be just like the rest of his group, but surprisingly, he still becomes willing to help out when things get out of hand, even if it's helping his rivals. He tries to be the most orderly and caring leader in the start despite his history with his rivals, and he immediately feels guilt when he fails to save Petra and Gabriel. That's another thing, he may be a bit of a coward at the start, but his heart was in the right place, and it was useful to have someone as alert as him around. He only grew as a person as the series went on, willing to help his old friends regardless of their faults, and in season two, became a highly brave hero and a good friend. The only thing I have against him is that he doesn't become very reliable until the latter half of the Wither Storm Arc, he was kind of a stick in the mud beforehand.
4: Jesse
The player of the game, Jesse, was admittedly hard to rank. Yes, he/she is very heroic and does a lot of noble things. They took the responsibility to slay the Wither Storm without hesitation, and despite what drama gets in the way of their team, Jesse stands their ground, where they stick to what’s important. They became a hero for a reason, and were willing to take so much more responsibility than anyone else. Even throughout their time in fame, where time had worn on them and left them with several regrets and desires, they originally stood their ground to be the heroes the citizens wanted them to be. Even if they end up leaving BeaconTown at the end, it’s not completely out of selfishness, as they realized that the citizens were better off fending for themselves and Jesse themselves were better off pursuing what their heart desired. However, I still can’t put Jesse in the top three for a few reasons: They can be arrogant and dismissive, especially when their leadership gets questioned. Jesse also has the tendency to think they have to one up everyone else, whether it’s with the Ocelots in the past or even with other people in need of their help, claiming that they are the only ones that can fix things. Granted, Jesse does get consequences for this in some episodes, and it both led to his friends being made useful, and it gave BeaconTown a target on its back, all because Jesse thought he/she had all the answers. And like it or not, that is arrogance, especially if you look up the definition, “having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities.” This is Jesse’s major flaw, and it does hold them back for a good chunk of the series. Still though, they do eventually move on past it to create a healthier life for everyone, and with that redemption in mind, I placed Jesse as high as I felt I could get them. (Trust me, Jesse was originally MUCH lower on this list)
5: Petra
Petra wanted to be seen as a hero even through her own circumstances, and that faithfulness shows as an altruist who fights for everything. She vowed to protect so much in her position, and was a tough mercenary willing to fight on despite all the bad stuff that happens to her. You could even argue that it was because of her that Jesse became the hero that they were, even if she never got the credit. She was the longest running hero in the whole series next to Jesse, and even after she decided to vow for herself at the end, she didn’t stop caring about her friends, and even became more open to the perspective of other people. That however brings me to the points I had to dock from Petra, since I must be fair and completely objective for this list. Petra has the tendency to be overly critical of other people, without even understanding them, where she has an ideal way of how heroes work, and when she thinks others don’t meet that criteria, she’s quick to call them out. Sometimes it’s what the person needs to hear, and it is justified, but other times, it has led to severe consequences for the entire team. Many have even blamed Petra for the Admin attacks, given she decided to leave BeaconTown and pursue a life against Jesse’s fame without their knowledge, and more than once gone behind Jesse’s back to try and escape taking blame. We understand where she’s coming from, since she had been neglected by her friends for so long and thus lost her trust in people, but it’s still inconsiderate, and she’s had to face the consequences for her actions. Granted, Petra did come around and learn from her mistakes, and it ended up benefiting both her friends and herself, even when she was forced to confess that she’s not perfect. Hey, that’s kind of what we love about Petra in the first place, so she just barely makes it in the top five.
6: CaptainSparklez
May be controversial, but Sparklez having so little screen time to work with is both a point for him to be a sincere and good guy, and also a point against him for how little there is to work off of him. For the time he survived though, he was the most sincere and honest of the YouTuber bunch in the mansion, being the most direct of the situation, as well as being the least infuriating to get information out of pretty much any of the others. Yeah that’s kind of a subjective statement, but in a situation where you want to prove your innocence, being straightforward with what has happened and trying to help the detectives is a pretty noble call.
7: Olivia
Olivia is the most level headed of the Order next to Lukas, and she manages to grow from her own insecurities and become more sure of herself. The original trio reacted to their situation as nobodies in different ways, and in Olivia’s case, it was living up to the expectations of her idol, Ellegaard, and pursuing her dreams as a Redstone Engineer. But due to her anxieties, there always seemed to be someone better than her, and it made her think that her ideas are complete trash due to their little success, especially when Ellegaard puts her down because of it and even states that Olivia doesn’t have what it takes to be any good. Olivia however, managed to prove her wrong, and started believing in herself far more after that. Let it be said that bad financial reception doesn’t say the quality of your work, the only bad thing that comes with it is when next to nobody checks out your hard work, and I should know…
8: Stampy
I obviously have to dock poor Stampy some points because he does fall into the trap the other YouTubers do in Episode 6 where he constantly has to keep everything he knows and does a secret for… whatever reason. While he is quicker to admit his distrust than the others, he did steal the Flint and Steel that caused the mayhem in the first place. Granted, it was meant to be a prank, and he didn’t intend to harm anyone by doing so, but while I understand why he would be scared and hesitant to own up to his thievery when there’s an unknown murderer roaming around trying to take it, the fact that he didn’t even tell Dan or Lizzie, people he should trust, about it is very inconsiderate. That said, Stampy is probably the least spiteful of this group, and arguably the most personality as a sweet, naive, and even smart cat. He tried hard to befriend everyone despite his fears, and he even tried to assist the rebellion against the Admin and even the Order back at the mansion.
9: Binta
It’s hard not to feel bad for Binta, as she hardly ever knew about the sunlight, feeling so much responsibility and weight on her shoulders as the leader of Fred’s Keep. She was burdened with the promise she left Fred before his death, and she had to keep that promise for centuries and look after the few people left. She knew that the underneath would eventually perish herself and her people, but she tried to keep everyone thriving anyway, leaving no one but herself to worry about what could come. If she does survive and make it back to the Overworld, she’s both grateful and heartbroken, as she vowed to have Romeo pay for what he had done to her people. She’s honestly a really underrated character.
10: Nurm
Nurm was a good villager, a foreign explorer who was the last surviving member of Jack’s friends, and he was the voice of reason to the guy. Nurm knew right from wrong and was the calming voice of reason to so many members of the Order, and he even offered to sacrifice himself to Cellblock X for the sake of helping Jesse and Lluna. Speaking of which,
11: Lluna
Lluna was a stubborn animal to say the least, but we understand why. She was the pet of Stella, who only used Lluna as a piece of treasure and rarely treated her as anything but, which is very much abuse. We understand Lluna’s desperation to escape her master, and even explore further in the world. She’s aggressive, and even cold to others, but she has done so many impressive feats and selfless things in her time with the Order.
12: Axel
Axel is chaotic, to say the least. He has a wild side to him and is very much driven by that. I talked about how the trio was affected by their past as nobodies, and Axel probably has let that sink in the most. He held a massive grudge against the Ocelots that took so long to overcome, and he seemed to be driven by what he felt was justified. He stole the potion Ivor needed to stop the Wither Storm because Ivor stole from Petra and therefore felt like it was deserving. I’m not saying any of this to say that Axel is a bad guy, because he is still a good guy, he cares about his friends and is highly protective of them, plus he owns up to his past mistakes at the end of the day. However, this is the first instance on the list where a character is in some things for their own gain, and that requires just a little bit of chaotic nature to spawn some selfishness.
13: Stacy
Not much to go off of with Stacy given she wasn’t even accused in the murder mystery episode. And even there, she was pretty sarcastic and dismissive, curious of what loot a dead person might have, which is kind of sketchy. But I can’t really say she’s a ‘bad’ person because despite these attributes, she was straight forward with what she knew, and seemed to have become better as a baker with Stampy. She even adopted a puppy and cared for it deeply, and like Stampy, became a significant member of the rebellion against the Admin. So she does manage to find herself in the good tier, she’s just a little snarky.
14: Nell
Nell is a surfer girl with a surfer accent and yet never became a surfer. She’s okay, she hasn’t done anything nobly wrong. She did kill Lukas and Ivor (Petra) but it was completely impersonal on her end, and she did apologize for it and even decided to help Jesse in the Games. She was one of the first people to trust Jesse and look up to them in episode 8. She doesn’t really do anything else in the series, so she's only left wrapping up the good girls on the list.
15: Jack
Putting my distaste for this character completely aside, because this is an objective list. Even then, Jack is kind of hard to place. On one end you can feel bad for him after he lost his friends exploring, and it traumatized his life, even with that trauma though, he vowed to help Jesse and Petra and even offered Petra to go exploring with him. He is nobly a decent guy, and he has clearly had a history of heroism, but he does have a tendency to be arrogant about his feats, to a point where he barely does anything to live up to that. Still, he’s alright. Objectively.
It's time I covered the neutral characters in Story Mode, who are kind of just in the middle of morality. They’re not heroic, they’re not evil, they’re just kind of in the middle for one reason or another, AKA, The Grey Area:
LDShadowLady & DanTDM
These two are dramatic and sketchy to say the least, or that’s how they come off in the murder mystery episode. Lizzie clearly has a distaste for TorgueDawg, and feels no sympathy for when the dude gets murdered. Dan on the other hand killed CaptainSparklez himself, and didn’t own up to it at all until it was too late. These two are kind of at each other's throats most of the episode, more so than the other YouTubers, and they don’t appear later to redeem themselves from that exterior. Still though, they’re not bad people, they don’t sabotage anyone on purpose, were quick to forgive Stampy for stealing the flint and steel, and showed pity for the fallen friends in the mansion, so they are caring in some cases.
Gabriel
Gabriel the warrior is a member of the Order of the Stone who ‘slayed an Ender Dragon and saved the world’ Except that turned out to be a false legend thanks to their leader Soren, and the entire Order kept this a secret from the world, including Gabriel himself. But while all the Order are obviously selfish liars who barely try to help with the Wither Storm, Gabriel is at the very least the only member of the Order that genuinely tries to change his ways, and make the legend a reality. This doesn’t completely excuse that he values mission over his allies, but he does put in effort to be a hero, and feels ashamed when he can’t stand up for himself. That has to count for some form of dignity, so I can’t place him any lower.
Isa
Isa meant well, as she believed that ruling over her civilians and stripping them of creative rights was helping them survive. I can’t really fault her for that, but it still caused quite the havoc in Sky City. And I can’t forget that Isa blindly trusted Aiden, an outcast, and believed his every word, then was somehow shocked when he betrayed her. Given how cautious she is, that’s both stupid and basically her asking to get thrown off the island. That said, Isa does have good intentions, and she even redeems herself once she realizes there was land beneath them. Sure she can be dismissive of others' say in things, but Isa’s not a bad leader, just a fairly flawed one.
Otto
Otto is an old builder. Enough said. But he is the ‘least terrible’ of them, and he actively tries to stick to straight forward rules as much as possible, making him an ally to Jesse. Still though, he supports these games, games that actively kill and enslave people and the fact that he never did anything to change this before is shady.
Milo
Milo means well, he constantly breaks the law and isn’t afraid to put people in danger for the sake of freedom, but he does mean well. That’s not really enough to put him below Isa though, what does is that he’s completely reckless, and puts his priorities above all else, and never chose to hear out Isa. He was willing to steal the Eversource for his people without fear of the consequences. At least Isa puts people's safety first.
Em
Em is a tribute in the Hunger Games. And after being trapped for years, she tried everything to get home, and she became quite ruthless. Not only did she antagonize Jesse when he tried to help, but she manipulated him just to have the Gladiators step on him. She only cares for herself to land the victory due to her insecurities, and she isn’t afraid to kill her own teammates to achieve that. However, I can’t place her any lower because of the fact that she does come through at the end and redeems herself, and fights alongside Jesse.
Harper
It's hard not to completely fault Harper. She didn’t intend for PAMA to go corrupt and for her friends to remain brainwashed, and it clearly left her isolated for life. So we know why she acts untrusting and is willing to sabotage people. However, it still counts as a dock of points because Harper doesn’t ever learn to trust people again, as once her heroes save her, she lies to them about what's been going on with the games, and willingly throws them in a trap. Which is a pretty malicious way of saying thanks. Still, Harper was raised as an old builder, and the apocalypse she started was an accident, so I can’t say she’s that bad.
Slab
Slab was a gladiator who had the job to kill people, torture them, and he find pleasure in doing so. He thrived in the opportunity to kill Jesse, determined to make him behave at any cost, and as such he antagonizes every competitor in the games. However, I can’t place him any lower because he does open his eyes to him being manipulated, and he decides to leave and be his own boss so… redemption? I guess?
Ellegaard & Magnus
These two are obnoxious, and they don’t even try to better themselves until the very end. The Order were frauds through and through, but whereas Gabriel actually tried to make it true, these two soaked up the fame and just yelled at each other. Let’s start with Magnus, he clearly does not care for people’s lives and rather chooses his fame over them, and his chaotic nature leads to a lot of harm and a lot of arguing from him. Ellegaard might be the tamer of the two, but she still only cares about her own image, and rather chooses to make a new invention over potentially getting her people to evacuate, and she also causes a lot of destruction in her path. They don’t even contribute anything to the mission. That said, like Slab, these two did sacrifice themselves and gave Jesse their armor, at the cost of their lives, to claim that they could be real heroes, so… redemption? Again, I guess it's the thought that counts?
Ivor
Come on. Ivor being in the grey area is a given. He is one of the most morally questionable characters in the series, going from an Order of the Stone member, to a bitter loner, to a straight forward villain. He vowed revenge on the Order after they cheated their way into fame, unleashing a dangerous Wither Storm just to prove to the world his point. Obviously, that is very extreme, and I can’t deny that. However, Ivor is willing to fix his mistake and stop the Wither Storm himself, even if he seems shady in the process. After Jesse becomes the New Order, Ivor tries to turn over a new leaf and fit in with society, even if he fails due to his insane nature. He does help the Order in the Portal Arc, admittedly also getting them in trouble as well, unintentionally. He retires with Harper and goes on his own adventure, where he becomes a portal hopping ninja. Admittedly, though he has his redemption, I can’t place him any higher because I can’t forget that he is still insane and reckless, even after he joins the new order, and as a ninja, he is recruited by the Admin to kill Jesse. While partially not his fault, he still goes along with this plan, even if he stops when he realizes it’s the real Jesse. Bottom line is, Ivor is an insane guy, one of the hardest characters to place on this list, and he stays insane while also coming through, admittedly, a bit of a chaotic neutral.
TorgueDawg
Though only appearing in one scene, he is memorable enough that he at least deserves a mention. TorgueDawg was the friend of CaptainSparklez, and a thief. He has a sick sense of humor, and never gets along with anyone, in fact when he dies he uses his last words to insult Jesse. So he’s not on screen enough to be an entirely bad guy, but it is a shame that he died so brutally.
Xara
Xara is one of the most tragic figures in the series, as someone who watched her friend murder her other friend, and was left in a prison for several years with no sleep. Obviously, that would drive anyone insane, turning her into a loner and a bit of a sociopath. We understand why, but Xara tries to burn her saviors in lava when she meets them, and is only out for vengeance against Romeo as her only goal in life. She even murders the Warden in cold blood, and though he had it coming, it’s still brutal for her to do. Though Xara was once an Admin though, she’s not ‘evil’ even if she does a lot of questionable things and pressures the people trying to help her, as around the end of book four, she reflects on her life and everything she lost, essentially finding solitude with a simple bed, and accepting that she can find good once more. So I felt that her wrapping up the neutrals is a great fit.
Lastly, it's time I covered the despicable characters in Story Mode, who are malicious and cruel in one way or another. They have little sense of good in them, and have done many bad things that they don’t regret, AKA, The Bad & Evil:
8: Soren
Soren was the leader of the original Order of the Stone, and you could argue that he is responsible for the entire Wither Storm conflict. For starters, he was the one who used the command block behind his team's back, making him the one responsible for their false victory. And instead of confronting the situation up front and apologizing to his team, he ran away from them when the fame became too much for him to handle, and split up the rest of the order as a result, and made Ivor bitter in the first place. Soren is responsible for so many betrayals and disasters that led to Ivor’s insanity and Jesse’s suffering. With that said though, he does regret what he did, so you could argue that all of this is not enough to put him in the bad tier. What DOES put him here though is that unlike the previous entries, he doesn’t even try to make up for what he does wrong, and rather pins the blame on others for what goes wrong whether that be Jesse or Ivor. He’s willing to put his allies in unnecessary danger for the sake of his own desires like his Endermen, and spends his time on the journey bragging about his accomplishments and moping about how much society sucks rather than living up to them, with the former being lies. And if you think he would redeem himself like the rest of the Order members did? He doesn’t. As he runs away from the fight as a complete coward, he's never seen again. Look, I don’t think Soren is an awful character or anything, but on an objective standpoint, he is the definition of a false idol. Feel free to disagree with this statement and this placement, but be thankful he isn’t lower because the ones that are lower than him directly did MUCH worse things. At least in Soren’s case it was an indirect downward spiral.
7: Aiden
Aiden was a bully through and through, and only cared about the fame and glory of himself and his team, the Ocelots. And he completely owned his time as a well known winner, and posed everyone else as beneath him. However, later down the line, Aiden becomes worse and even destructive. When the Order gets fame and glory, Aiden feels like his rights have been taken from him, and convinces himself that the Order are self absorbed dictators who will destroy society, even portraying his former friend Lukas as a traitor. That’s kind of ironic. He tries everything to destroy the Order, siding with Isa to arrest them, and soon tries to steal the Eversource of the island to destroy the land and claim it as his own. He fell into such a crippling insanity that he even tries to murder not only Jesse, but his old friend Lukas with no remorse, just so he can be seen as superior. This guy's insanity is kind of hard to watch as his vengeance completely corrupts him. Though I can’t place Aiden any lower because not only are there characters who have even worse insanity, but there is proof that he’s doing all of this because he thinks it's what for the best of the people around him, a twisted sense, but he was right in a way given where the Order ended up later. Plus there’s proof at the very end that Aiden is searching for redemption, but since we never saw that proper, he’s left with this spot.
6: Stella
The idea that Stella is an egotist is an understatement. She attempts everything to be on the same level of fame and glory as Jesse, in the belief that power and recognition is how the world runs. While she’s kind of sort of not wrong, it does lead her to care very little about the people around her. She runs a whole town solely made to express herself, and takes advantage of people to be up to her standards, just so she can steal from them, not even bothering to remember people’s names. It’s because of her beliefs on how the world works and her ambitions that everyone else sees her as a selfish, cruel, and greedy narcissist that can never see the forest for the trees, if she even knows what trees are. It’s no wonder she willingly became the Admins right hand after meeting him in person. You might be saying that for these reasons characters like Em and Slab should be lower since they were also manipulated, but keep in mind that those guys were forced into their situations against their will, whereas Stella has no such excuse, and joined the Admin on her own call. But despite what many may think of her, Stella DOES have some redeemable qualities. For starters, Stella does secretly idolize Jesse explaining why she tries to rival them, and also hints that she may have insecurities about herself and her own status. There is evidence that she does see Lluna as more than just a tool, even if it is brief evidence under her abuse. She vowed to keep Lluna safe, even if it is under Jesse’s watch when she has to, and is disheartened when Lluna rebels against her, though she does still treat Lluna badly, it is something to consider. Last evidence is that unlike Aiden and the lower spots on this list, Stella actually does care about the people she controls. Even though she treats her people wrong, she shows remorse for them as the whole reason she even goes to the Ice Palace with the Order, and becomes guilty for not being there to protect them after a while, making her see the trees and realize she’s on the wrong side. Not only does she become crippled with regret when Romeo blows up her city and very likely her people, but Stella redeems herself in the hopes she won’t make this mistake again, and vows to try and be her own person. How regardless of these facts, her redemption arc is solely made only under certain choices in the game. On another route, she remains just as egotistical and stuck up. But given I personally think Stella isn’t THAT bad, but objectively still bad, she’s just outside the bottom five.
5: Warden
The Warden is a cruel and monstrous leader of the Sunshine Institute, and rules over its prisoners with an iron fist. He has zero sympathy for anyone imprisoned, and refuses to see their ideals on how the Admin is cruel and unfair. In the name of the Admin, Warden will torture anyone for the most pathetic of reasons, solely for his own benefit of pleasing the Admin to get himself out. Not only has he imprisoned everyone under strict measures, but he also manipulates Jesse into following his twisted ideals. He forces upon things like stripping cows to ensure ‘balance,’ and if Jesse refuses, he forces starvation among all the prisoners in the Mush Room, for no other reason than him being mad at Jesse. Not to mention he also forces Jesse into following his example by torturing and nearly KILLING Radar, A CHILD, with zero remorse. Whatever decency the Warden may have, might come with one shred of understanding where he’s coming from. He was once a griefer until he met The Admin, and while we don’t learn exactly what he did to end up in the Sunshine Institute, it’s implied that he’s also a victim of this place just like everyone else. His experience there has corrupted him to the point where his only hope of ever escaping and finding his freedom is to follow the Admins every order, and as I’ll explain later about the Admin, you can tell what that turned Warden into. But that’s only one shred of sympathy over a whole curtain of a cruel, twisted, brutal, and absolutely heartless Warden, to a point where you’d have to be mad not to hate this man. And he doesn’t redeem himself at all like Stella did, cause once he loses his power and becomes a victim again, he only vows to defend himself and try to murder those that try to get revenge upon him. He even attempts suicide just to kill Xara and Jesse’s gang, cause he has nothing left to lose, and is very much his only way in his mind that he can ever be free again. Honestly, while that sounds like a sad end, we kind of sort of don’t feel bad when Xara instead shoots him dead, putting the Warden out of his misery. Good riddance.
4: Cassie Rose
If you think imprisoning people for life for your own benefit is evil, let’s discuss outright killing them. I’m not gonna lie, under different circumstances I might switch Cassie and Warden around, because they’re both people who turned heartless and cruel under harsh circumstances, and maybe would have turned out better if they hadn't been put under pressure. But while Warden is definitely far more hateable, Cassie Rose goes the extra mile in her goals to murder everyone she comes across. She was abandoned in another world from her fellow Old Builders with no way to escape and return home. And her search to find a key and having to gaze at the two moons, and the locked portal right in front her drove her to insanity, where she will do ANYTHING to get a key to that portal, “Even if I have to resort… to murder!” If you think about it, we feel more sympathy towards Cassie, but sympathy doesn’t always excuse actions, which speak louder than words. What’s even more disturbing to think about is that given all the cats and the pumpkin patches in her lair, she has been doing this for years, and was not the first time she’s used the mansion to find a flint and steel. With that theory in mind, Cassie might have a way higher body count than we think. And no, Cassie does not care about her victims, nor does she feel remorse for them, as again, she only has one goal in mind for her. What keeps her out of the bottom three though is that Cassie does feel a shred of guilt over what she’s done after she’s defeated and left in an endermite cage for all eternity. But even then, she’s maliciously laughing at her cat around the end of the episode, and the end of season two has a letter by Cassie to Jesse that says “Look Out.” So yeah, she’s probably out for a serious revenge. I personally would have loved to see her come back.
3: PAMA
As a robot, PAMA was programmed to make mobs ‘useful,’ essentially to make them servants to it and support the townspeople. Unfortunately PAMA exaggerated its programming, and made the humans useful as well, stripping them of their own sentient nature, and ensuring that every single living thing in the universe was under its control. All in the name of making it ‘useful.’ The scary thing about this is that not only does this mean every person is stripped of even having their own thoughts, not only does PAMA rule over an entire land, but it succeeded at ruling it for YEARS. PAMA might be the first villain on the list to successfully achieve its plan, and keep it successful for a very long period of time (And no I don’t really count the Warden, he was the Admins servant and was trying to carry out the Admins plans.) PAMA is straight up a dictator, and a very threatening one, and the insane thing is that it's not even trying to be evil. It’s programmed to make things useful, and it just wants to do its job well, and simply became twisted when it began to feel useless itself. The only positive point of this computer is that motivation. Otherwise, there is very little decency in PAMA, and the insane thing is that it's only number three on the list. I did agree that PAMA was the most evil character, at one point, but I then later saw two characters on the list that did even more damage.
2: Hadrian & Mevia
What is left that can be said other than these two are as cruel as human beings can get?! Though PAMA was cruel as well, it at least believes that what it's doing is right. Hadrian and Mevia however have no such care or motivation, and only are as cruel as they are because it’s fun to do so. They recreated the Hunger Games essentially, and they imprison lost souls from the Portal Network to play in them, to have them kill each other. And even if they somehow manage to win merely impossible challenges, Hadrian and Mevia have Gladiators designed to slaughter them anyway. I have no idea why nobody is allowed to win these games, as it's not explained at all, but the fact is that these two do everything in their power to prevent that from happening. They lie to contestants and make deals with them as promises of freedom, only to pull a reverse card even if they do what they want. They are also not afraid to straight up murder people, because at least PAMA hates wasting its hostages, Hadrian and Mevia have a massive body count on their hands. And in case you can counter that with ‘oh but they respawn afterwards, so it's not that bad,’ well try that along with enslaving these people for the rest of their lives under the Underworld. Even when all their rules get shattered with no way of countering them, by Jesse winning their games, Hadrian and Mevia refuse to give in to their failure and instead opt to murder Jesse at all costs. They don’t have any clear motivation why they are so cruel, but the facts remain that these two have zero decency, and there is practically NOTHING positive to say about these two.
That said, though these two are probably the worst in terms of morality, in terms of the damage they caused to people, the whole world, the entire universe?! And in terms of some of the worst evil acts in the series, even THEY fail to compare to #1...
1: Romeo The Admin
Like, who else would it be? This guy is very much responsible for the existence of all the previous characters established. Romeo was once one of three Admins who had the power to create life itself, and nearly every structure Minecraft has ever known. In his past, he was once the closest friend of Fred and Xara, who were Admins as well. But even then, there are several signs that this guy really loves to play with his toys, and in a pretty sadistic and extreme way with all his own chambers and arenas. This caused people to start avoiding him, and they neglected him unintentionally, leaving the guy to fall in isolation and even descend into madness. This is where the guy becomes a heartless monster. He chooses on his own free will to abandon the first world and everyone that lives in it to rot, so that he can find his own supremacy and acceptance. What’s worse is that when his old friends try to stop him, he KILLS one of them, and leaves the other in an underground prison for a century, and we already said how that scarred Xara. Even when making a new world, the Admin’s only goal now that he’s isolated himself is to replace his friends with a champion, making relics and temples for aspiring heroes to investigate, just so he can find someone worthy of potentially loving him. If they’re not, the Admin shows very little remorse even if they’re completely innocent, trapping several people in the Sunshine Institute just for their quirks, and even killing people and deleting them from existence without a care in the world. He mentally scarred several characters in the series forever, I already mentioned Xara, but Jack was also hurt by the Admins reign as the guy killed his friends, Petra starts comparing herself to the Admin when she falls into the champion hands, and even the worst of people like the Warden were also hurt by this guy and forced to obey his ideals. The Admin has no room for beliefs that challenge his own, as he has a very clear story in his head on who the heroes are, and who the nobodies are, proof of this being when he forces Radar into elimination for no other reason than ‘he didn’t deserve the title of competent.’ And then there’s how the Admin treats his champion, Jesse. In that sense, this guy is essentially THE abuser. He constantly tries to ruin Jesse’s life and destroy what they care about, just so they can notice him and play with him, and when they stand up for themselves, Romeo makes Jesse miserable and helpless, stealing their very identity not only for his own gain of admiration, but to make them suffer as a nobody once more. Oh yeah and did I mention he blows up an entire city and kills thousands of people just as a threat towards some pawns? Honestly, with these other villains, while their actions are bad, at least their actions are permanently rid of by the end of their reign, and even the killers I’ve mentioned eventually show remorse for their actions. With Romeo however? What he’s done is never going to be erased. People like Xara and Jack are always going to be scarred from all the evil Romeo has done, the first world will always remain abandoned, the people tortured by him will be changed in one way or another, in a way, Romeo has shaped the new world. Admittedly he shaped it in a very sadistic way. The only other thing worth noting is that he does eventually get defeated by Jesse, and now that he’s stripped of his power that’s essentially defined him, he’s only left wondering why Jesse became what they did, and he even decides to sacrifice himself to the Terminal Zone as one last act of redemption, and even if he survives, he does decide the best thing is to leave this world and return to the first world and ‘try to fix things,’ which… good luck with that. So in one way, even the worst of people do have some decency. But otherwise, the Admin is straight up malicious. He’s cruel, he’s heartless, he’s manipulative, he’s abusive, he’s merely invincible, and he has evil feats that plague everyone in this series’s universe. As such, he deserves the gold medal as the most evil character on this list.
And that is the list! Let me know if there’s anything else you want me to talk about, since this list took awhile to put together. And that’ll be it, do I have some catchphrase to end this? No, no one asked for it.

picked a whole bouquet of whoopsie-daisies the other day reading some Very badfeel content so to cheer myself up here’s some super self-indulgent ramblings about romeo recovery post-s2
“YOU CAN DANCE IF YOU WANT TO YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR INTERNALIZED MISOGYNY BEHIND” or how romeo learned to stop worrying and indulge in the ““feminine”“ shit in life
when romeo transitioned he scrubbed everything that could be potentially viewed as feminine from his appearance and behaviour. while he did everything he could about the former (hairstyle, clothing, body language, voice), it didn’t feel like enough bc he couldn’t change some things that ppl used to be jerks- his frame (short and lithe), his family, his being trans- so he made up for it by trying to “act” like a “real man”. this unfortunately meant he was super vulnerable to manipulative alt-right indoctrination tactics (”we will validate you as a man as long as you endorse our assholery and share our shitty beliefs about what it means to be a man”) and he was on the verge of getting sucked into gamergate ideology when [THIS LORE IS ANOTHER POST] and hey, now the world is minecraft. u dont gotta perform gender roles for villagers they dont care. xara will not only actually eat ur liver for pulling The Bullshit but when you are kind she smiles, so bright and warm, and it is very very nice so maybe you should keep on doing that. n fred? fred is chill with their Everything in a way uve only ever Dreamed of. romeo marinates in this sauce for a couple centuries and comes the closest to being comfortable in his own skin he’s ever been.
however,
after the Incident he slam-dunked himself back into the hypermasculinity juice bc it was a mindset “safe” from feeling pain, whether his or others’. n since the worlds the admins created dont have the same ideas of gender as the world they came from, once he’s been dethroned romeo has a particularly hard time adjusting wrt That on top of all the other 2750347502730 issues he has to face
anyway flash forward a couple months of being incredibly volatile bc he now has to confront all the terrible things he did and how Dare u make him do that and maybe if hes nasty enough he can provoke someone into killing him and saving him from having to unpack All Of That- (note from @simple-mooshroom-herder: Xara and Jesse at least grasp that Romeo will probably burn himself out on this bullshit eventually and the best thing to do is interact with him with a certain level of healthy detachment. Eventually he'll see that theres no "getting out of this" and he'll start to do the Work but until then its very frustrating to see that tactic take him nowhere.)
- one day petra notices how he’s constantly staring at all the ppl wearing cute dresses in beacontown and at first she thinks he's being creepy but then realizes that he's not being creepy and actually she knows exactly how he feels bc she also used to look at ppl wearing clothes super not suited for combat like that, like she wished she could wear them too, like if she just didnt have to keep up this image of the Warrior who is Not Soft Ever-
n ok. listen. these worlds have been specifically engineered to be better and kinder than the one the admins came from, and when people mess up- even REALLY mess up- people are generally not only willing to forgive you but support you as you try and get better. it’s instinctual for communities to respond to misdeeds with rehabilitation and reconciliation, rather than retaliation and renunciation (tho its not an overnight thing and it generally takes 1-3 people to spearhead the process, esp if the actions have affected a large group of people). like. ivor created something that almost destroyed the entire world, not just beacontown, yet by the end of season one he’s grown to be a part of the team- n its not just jesse & co being forgiving here, bc when ivor made his s1 build with 3 lava source blocks people objected to it, but by s2 he not only has lava in his build but a giant lake of it. (im assuming the fences around said lake are coming eventually, bc safety is still important, but the implications im choosing to take from this are a) despite almost ending the world people let him into their lives anyway and b) the community not only grew to accept but encourage his self-expression.)
BUT ANYWAY before i go off on that even more one day petra and romeo basically put on an impromptu fashion show in jesse’s house (bc their house is huge and, kind of perfect for a fashion show, and also right next to the order hall’s armory whence they stole a bunch of fancy swords to match the outfits) n theyre having a blast until the hero in residence , returns to their residence (and with COMPANY) n romeo is absolutely Mortified- caught red-handed showing feelings of an almost human nature, oh my god, this will NOT do- n this whole grand soliluquy of shame and excuses and apologies grabs the steering wheel of his tongue but he cant even spit a single syllable out bc jesse and lukas almost immediately dip leaving romeo panicking for a second before they come back with their inventories FULL of cute outfits, including a billion skirts and dresses, some of them are even enchanted so theyre like. super shiny or constantly flowing or things like that.
this actually ends up spiralling into a town-wide... not quite fashion show bc there's no runway or anything, everyone just shows up in their cutest/coolest outfits .. fashion convention?? Anyway several people come up to him and compliment him on his outfit casually before continuing along, not recognizing him not only bc of how hes done his hair and makeup n what hes wearing but he just seems... so happy (he might be wearing something on his head? like a headpiece or hat or something? but also maybe not hmm)- whoever this is, he's not hunched over like he's got several centuries' worth of sins crawling on his back he’s not trying to shrink and make small a human-shaped apology for the simple fact of his existence not dragging his feet like hes ready for, dreading, a hundred mile trek through the desert repenting hes just. hes literally just Vibing
anyway he's mostly been silent or just providing very quiet "thank you"s but when it turns out that some people showed up ready to play music and there's a song that he knows he literally cant help but start jamming out its the GOod Stim everyones a-dancing and a-jiving and some people start to sing and so of course he does too (the healing power of dancing and singing in cute outfits.... unfathomable) but. ppl recognize his voice
and after a few seconds he notices how quiet it's gotten all of a sudden n everyones looking at him like "oh shit thats the admin" and honestly his heart breaks. visibly
but
then someone starts singing, so quiet it takes a moment for him to hear over the sound of an encroaching panic attack (oh god he has airpods in), but when he looks over theyre smiling - theyre smiling at hiM???? AND IT DOESNT EVEN LOOK MEAN??- and doing this very simple step, that he catches onto just as easily as he matches their singing (its a fairly common little tune n dance)
theyre like standing like a good few meters away but as they take turns with lines in the song they slowly inch closer
and he thinks hes starting to recognize the dance that the steps theyre doing is from but at the part in the song thats coming up ur supposed to allemande left and even tho theyre like, less than a meter away now literally no one has really wanted to get close to him, let alone actually touch him, so hes totally expecting them to be like 'psych' and humiliate him in front of the entire crowd-
BUT THEN THEY ACTUALLY GO FOR IT???
he completes the step without even thinking about it n continues onto the next in this state of dull bewilderment where there is but one braincell active in his head and it is just going, in a very tiny voice, "danser?"
- when they linked arms the person briefly seemed surprised that he didn't like, chew their arm off or anything (he had. kind of snapped at people a few times during the past few weeks), but then their shock turned into a wide smile and they sort of- nodded? at someone over his shoulder like 'come and join us, it doesn't look like he's going to kill me after all you guys can put the eulogy writing on hold'
what rly makes his heart do the confused and hopeful conga is that this isnt even anyone romeo knows, its a total stranger. or- like- he saw them while he was pretending to be jesse he just didnt care to get to know them beyond ‘name and gimmick’- its not even someone who has any reason to think he'd be cool to befriend its literally jsut someone taking a chance on him (tkae a chance take a chance take a chance take a cha)
afterwards hes like "i should thank jesse for putting you up to that, it was fun" and theyre like "what? jesse didn't "put me up to" anything, dude, you just looked super choked. * something something surfer lingo who would i be if i just left someone to feel bad when they could be having fun dancing you know?*"

Maddening Lions Update #3!
[WARNING. SPOILERS FOR FE3H AHEAD. CURRENTLY PLAYING LIONS ROUTE BUY SOMETIMES I TALK ABOUT OTHERS AND SOME PARALOGUES OVERLAP SO SORRY IN ADVANCE]
So for a time, my roommate kidnapped me to play Minecraft (foxes!!) but the Madlions continue! And I have moved quite a bit further. So much further that I'm splitting this update into TWO updates because I have too dang much to say.
And DLC wave 3 is out! Regrettably, I am so late in this run that I am not making as much use of the sauna as I could, and I am missing like alllll the new quests and whatnot, but I am loving the new outfits! I got all my boys in summer wear, and most of the girls are wearing evening wear (unless they're mounted--summer wear overrides for combat, but evening doesn't because the skirt is too long).
I have class outfits overridden and I swear we're Valkyria Chronicles now but everyone looks dapper af and I don't care for the Mortal Savant outfit so really this is better
Here's what we've been up to!
The Great Bridge of Myrrdin:
HEY, LORENZ, YOU'RE ON THE WRONG SIDE.
This absolute sunofabitch comes at me ready to throw down as a level 40 Paladin and comes back home to us as a LEVEL 14 SOLDIER. I understand that I did nothing to improve him over time and I shouldn't be surprised, but honestly I expected at least his current class to stay unlocked. Was I gonna use him? No. But it was simultaneously hilarious and jarring. I even made a meme:
Tumblr media
AND DEDUE IS BACK MY BOOYYYYYY!!
I keep forgetting that Dedue returns at the beginning of this chapter instead of the end. It's so inspiring~ I had him classed as a Warrior before he left, and he was about 5 levels behind (yikes) but he survived well enough. With the power of Byleth's healing and exp gain, he caught up quickly enough.
For this battle, our main force went up the middle, and Byleth and Dimitri went on a magical bridge adventure on the side. Even though I re-learned the hard way that I AM NOT A FRONTLINER at the start of the timeskip, I believed erroneously that Byleth would be okay over there. I am not ashamed to admit that I had to pull out the Sword of the Creator to end that shit sooner than otherwise.
Paralogue: Dummy Thicc Thickets:
Sometimes I forget that not every battle requires you to kill every last one of them rout the enemy. Sometimes the battle objective is to defeat the commanders.
This is not a battle I forgot that in.
So, uh, Marianne was about level 9 when we started this one. The rest of the roster was mostly mid-high 30s? With Dancer Flayn creeping up the highest around 39. With the power of torches, some trial and error (and Divine Pulse Intervention--thanks Sothis), thicc thickets (40% cover is #blessed), and aggressive Striding, we gunned it for Maurice and beat the absolute shit out of him before he could so much as protest.
Thicket is love. Thicket is life.
And Marianne gained a single level casting Physic. *tiny sad low exp gain flags*
Worst Class Reunion in History:
I learned from the last times I did this map. Hahaha. With all students recruited, Gronder was monumentally easier. And I can't speak for Golden Deer players, but for Blue Lions, I'm telling you: avoid the center hill. The not-Bernie archer could not do enough meaningful damage to anyone I put in their range, and most importantly, it gave us much-needed distance from Claude's disgusting wyvern range.
I like to see the special dialogue, so I went out of my way to send Dimitri to fight Edelgard. This is probably one of the most chilling interactions between the two of them. Holy cats does Chris Hackney deliver this shit.
Gronder is such an intense and important battle, and I wish so hard it was executed just a little better. The pieces are all there, but some don't fit together correctly, or create discord between story and gameplay. I have never quite understood why the Alliance chooses to so aggressively attack when my Kingdom intentionally stays out of their way. If the battlefield were covered in actual fog, it might make more sense (though SOTHIS it would be a NIGHTMARE). Instead, Claude comes off as capricious, not as a "Master Tactician."
But with some suspension of disbelief, Gronder still packs an emotional punch. And hot fucking damn, Chris Hackney's voice acting. The cutscene after Gronder is some of the most intense and moving shit in the game. The way his fucking voice cracks at, "But you seem to have all the answers, Professor," is utterly destroying. I love the Blue Lions for many reasons, but I'd recommend it just to get to this scene alone. It is beautiful and humbling.
Paralogue: One Big Turtle:
Hey did you know that Lethality procs off Gambits, too? Because that was an absolute delight to learn.
I almost didn't do this paralogue because of the FOG and Leonie and Linhardt being so low-leveled like anyone not on the A-team, but this was really the only chance I was going to get to fight a 3x3 beast on Blue Lions, so my curiosity won out. Plus, the dialogue in the cutscene leading up to this is some of my favorite. It is really a shame that Linhardt and Leonie don't have more dialogue/supports.
With enough torches, this level is reasonable, and fighting The Immovable was fun! Probably as much fun for me as it was for him. And I finally took Flayn to fight a Saint, which is a riot.
"Oh, hey, Cethleann!"
"UNCLE, SHUT UP!"
Next Update: Bernie/Petra Paralogue, Retaking Fhirdiad, Ferdie/Lysithea Paralogue, and Saving Claude!
Roster (post Saint-smacking):
To see the class progression, please check my earlier updates! It's a lot of text to repost 😭

MCSM Season 3 Chapter 2:Old friends,old enemies
On Beacontown,at night,Jesse and Lukas were fighting off a few mobs, while discussing about an adventure they had along with Petra,Axel and Olívia a few years ago, after they defeated the Admin, they were exploring some temples built by the three Admins, and were talking about the treasure they found:
Lukas:Remember when Axel got stuck on that hole?We had to push him with all four of us,it was hilarious
Jesse(Male):Yeah, but i don't think he thought that was funny...
Lukas:So,how about that weird red glowing pearl we found in that chamber inside the old temple built by the Admins?
Jesse:Well, seeing that it was our treasure,i placed in the treasure hall, but i'm not sure about what it does...
Lukas:Maybe we should ask Ivor about it
Jesse:Nah,Ivor is to busy trying to fix his relationship with his friends,he's been trying to talk things out with them since we defeated the Wither Storm, but i guess they were to mad at him for,u know, creating an modified Wither to destroy Gabriel, which ended up killing Elleegard, and destroyed almost half of the underworld, but besides that,if think they were more mad about Ivor taking the Ender Crystal in return of his silence about their true story envolving the Ender Dragon, but i heard they are all united again,he told me that Magnus forgave him,and even wants to blow a few things up with him,Gabriel is trying to forgive him,but he almost blames Ivor for what happened to Elleegard.
Lukas:But what about Soren?
Jesse:I don't know,Ivor told me that he tried to contact Soren, but he simply vanished when he abandoned us while confronting the Wither Storm,i don't know were he is...
Lukas:Man,i can't believe he's been missing for so long
Jesse:Well, all i know for sure about Soren is that he is a true coward.
Lukas:Jesse,i know this is an weird question, but, have u heard anything from Aiden?
Jesse:Aiden?No...i didn't heard anything about him or his friends since we left Sky City dimension,7 years ago...
Lukas:It's just...i kinda miss him,and Gill and Maya too, they were my friends and the original Ocelots, and even if they were mean to us..they were..
(Jesse places his hands on Lukas's shoulder)
Jesse:Hey,it's ok,i know they were u friends and u miss then, but you have to move on,look who you became today Lukas, you are an writer and adventurer, leader of the New Ocelots, and OUR friend,Aiden,Gill and Maya were not good people to you, they dragged you to do bad things, they treated people very bad and didn't care for anyone except themselves
Lukas:but...
Jesse:Wherever they are now,it's not of our businness
Lukas:Yeah,you are right...
Jesse:Let's just finish these mobs and get inside ok?
Lukas:ok...
When Jesse and Lukas get inside their houses,The Blaze Rods show up of their hideouts and talk about their plan of revenge
Maya:Did your heard Lukas? He said he misses us..
Aiden:And?
Gill:Annnnndddddd he miss us?
Aiden:Why would i care,he abandoned us and choose to stay with the Order of The Losers,he doens't deserve our pity
Maya:Are you sure?
Aiden:Yup,now he is our enemy
Gill:Wait, didn't u kicked him out of our group because he was espending more time with the Losers then with us?
Aiden:SHUT UP GILL!!!
Gill:...
Aiden:If anyone ever mentions Lukas again,be welcome to say goodbye to the team!!!
Maya:Whatever you say boss..
Aiden:Now let's get the plan started,Gill, did you brought our weapons?
Gill:Yes boss
Aiden:Good, you,Maya and the others are going to break in the treasure hall and take the Pearl of Vengeance
Maya:And what about you?
Aiden:I'm going to make friends hehe
He deviously laughs along with Gill and Maya,Aiden did actually miss Lukas too, they were very close before Lukas started hanging out with The Order of the Stone, and he felt like Lukas abandoned him,so he decided to kick him out of the team and see him only as an enemy
