Only four more breakfasts to go until they do lunch & dinner service in December! // Throwback to our breakfast from @albertas_busselton Alberta’s, Busselton who just won Best Casual Dining at last night’s @wagoodfoodguide ‘s awards. This has been on my to-eat list for ages ever since we heard that it is opening - exciting to have Chef Ben Ing, the former head chef at Noma, Copenhagen (voted the number one restaurant in the world for 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014) open up a place in Busselton with his partner Kirsty, the former head gardener at Noma. Made the drive from Perth early in the morning to reach Alberta’s at 9am (2.5 hours drive from Perth) as I’ve heard that they have limited serves of the menu items and it can sell out before their closing time. Love the sleek fitout, tastefully-done open-plan kitchen and beautiful alfresco area they have. We ordered the following: - House-made juice: apple, pear, Tahitian Lime $8.50 - Multigrain toast, smoked Hen’s egg with kale and topped with crispy Lardon $22 - Baby gem lettuce, trout roe with herb vinaigrette and sunflower seeds $20 - Bahen & Co chocolate tart $18 - Strawberries and almond cream tart $17 Favourites were the fragrant multigrain toast with delicious gooey smoked egg with kale (not normally a fan of kale but Alberta’s kale was nice and crisp - not a hint of bitterness too) and crispy Lardon (house-made from a whole pig) and the strawberries and almond cream tart. Everything was fresh and sourced locally and their focus is on no-waste and sustainability. Can’t wait to visit again when they start doing lunches and dinners - starting in December. #Albertas #Busselton #BenIng #BreakfastinPerth #PerthBrunch #PFRInBusselton #PerthFoodReview #PFR_Douth #PFR_Albertas (at Busselton, Western Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClRCHRrPLzp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

ALBANY must-visit: throwback to when we visited Ocean & Paddock @oceanandpaddock // Delicious battered mulloway (aud18) with their complimentary in-house sauces. Ordered the grilled whiting too (aud26) but preferred the battered mulloway. The service here was second to none. We ordered and were waiting for our meal for 30+ minutes. Turned out they had put our order as takeaway instead of dine-in so the fish were actually in boxes instead of being served to us. They refunded and replaced our order with fresh ones. Also gave us a complimentary Mexican corn for being chill about it. I was perfectly ok with a replacement and did not expect a refund too. And then a complimentary corn on the house. Overheard the owner giving tips to a young server who just started and explaining that diners come to a restaurant for the full experience: food and service and that it was their job to make a customer’s experience good when they visit the restaurant. He also said that “in hospitality, you have the chance to make someone’s visit special and to make their day. How special is that?”. His prep talk made me smile - how special indeed it was overhearing the way this business owner trained his staff. We need more of this. Delicious food and just 💯 service here! Do make a booking before you visit! I made mine around 3 weeks in advance coz I was really looking forward to trying the Best Fish & Chips in WA. Thanks for such a lovely experience @oceanandpaddock - visited March 2022 and will definitely be back. #Albany #OceanAndPaddock #FishAndChips #Douth #PerthFishAndChips #mulloway #whiting #Perth #AlbanyFood #PFR_Douth #PFRinAlbany #PFR_OceanAndPaddock #PFR_FishAndChips (at Ocean and Paddock) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClQ3_E2PP69/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

PARADISE FOUND 🌸🌼🍀🌿🍃 // Golden Valley Tree Park @goldenvalleytreepark in Ballingup is located 2.5 hours from Perth and 1 hour from Busselton. Unreal serenity here with the beautiful white pear blossoms and it was like stepping into a magical painting. Can’t wait to visit again in autumn. Save this for your Douth trip. ❤️💯 From their website: “Golden Valley Tree Park is the largest arboretum in Western Australia, both in terms of area and number of species. The Park is divided into two sections, one area of 25ha for Australian trees and the other area of 35ha for the World Collection. There are over three thousand individual trees planted of over five hundred different species, some specimens of which date back one hundred years to when the original farming properties were established. Every year the collection is increased. It is managed on a voluntary basis by a not for profit incorporated association, Golden Valley Tree Park Inc., (GVTP Inc.) in partnership with Parks and Wildlife Services (PaWS). The Park is open daily and entry is free. The Bibbulman Track traverses the site. At the entrance to the Park stands the original Golden Valley Homestead which was fully restored during the 1990's. The house was built in the 1880's, and its large Organ Room is used to house the administration of the Park.” #GoldenValleyTreePark #Ballingup #GoldenValley #Arboretum #Beautiful #PearBlossoms #PFR_Flowers #PerthFoodReview #PFRTravels #PFR_Douth (at Golden Valley Tree Park Balingup) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjMk7OHv5xd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

BUSSELTON: MANO WRAPS // @manowraps is a must-visit in Busselton - these savoury buckwheat wraps were so good - incredibly crispy and delicious! Ordered the Roma (free range chicken, mushrooms, red cabbage, green salad, mushroom truffle sauce) and Salmon (smoked salmon, green salad, red cabbage, carrots, mayo); regular sizes at $17 each. Had these saved and been wanting to try them since their Shed Markets days when I first saw them on @fonfonpalida ‘s feed. They have their own physical store now in Busselton and there are a few tables and seats there. Both flavours were good and personally I prefer the smoked salmon. Can’t wait to be back again and try more of the savoury wraps, the sweet crepes and their gelato! 😋 #ManoWraps #Busselton #BuckwheatWraps #Crispy #Wraps #SmokedSalmon #Chicken #BusseltonFood #PFR_Douth #PFRinBusselton #PerthFoodReview (at Busselton, Western Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cecn8tEPc-T/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

BUSSELTON: SHELTER BREWING CO // Our lunch at @shelterbrewingco @shelterbusselton just at the start of @busseltonjettyinc last weekend where we had the following to share: - WHOLE MARKET FISH (GF, DF) $42 whole market fish/600g on the bone, fried, ali amarillo chili, cucumber, red onion, coriander, lemon (gf,af) - PORK KNUCKLE (GF, DF) $38 slow cooked pork knuckle, honey & mustard, cabbage, red onion, apple - BEEF BRISKET (GF) $39 12h slow cooked grain fed beef brisket, salsa, tortillas, coriander - MUSSELS (GF AVAILABLE, DF) $33 australian mussels, white wine, tomato, garlic, chilli, sourdough - SQUID (GF) $18 salt & pepper squid, chilli, dill mavo, lemon My favourites were the market fish, pork knuckle and mussels. The fish was cooked just right with the refreshing cucumber salad on top. Mussels were plump and juicy - also cooked perfectly. The pork knuckle was delicious too and we ordered two serves of this - only gripe being the apple slices which seemed to be pickled with something else (maybe fennel or radicchio) which left a bitter taste. Beef brisket was a bit dry in some parts. The entree salt and pepper squid was tender and springy - we ordered two serves of this as well. Thank you so much to my aunt and uncle for treating us - such a coincidence that we were in Busselton together and great to catch up with family again after three years. 🙏❤️ #ShelterBrewingCo #Busselton #ShelterBusselton #BusseltonFood #Seafood #Fish #ButterfliedFish #Mussels #PorkKnuckle #Beef #Tortillas #Squid #PFR_Douth #PFRinBusselton #PFR_ShelterBrewingCo #PerthFoodReview (at Shelter Brewing Co) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeaQ1rBvgW-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

VOYAGER ESTATE // throwback to the Discovery menu - seven courses at aud140pp. Still dreaming of this - one of the best degustation menus we have had in Western Australia. This FRUX menu is something special and spectacular. @voyagerestate - Bravo @santifernandez_gz 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 For the earlier post on all the courses we had, click #PFR_VoyagerEstate Featuring: - Line Caught Fish, Citrus, Scallop - Aged Duck, Red Shisho, Peach - Lamb, Garlic, Sunmer Greens - Marron, Geraldton Wax, Foraged Plants Delicious food and well-balanced flavours and perfect pairings. My favourites were the fish, marron and duck courses. Incredibly impressed with this first visit. 😍 Hoping to visit again before Head Chef Santi leaves WA for Spain. 😢 #VoyagerEstate #MargaretRiver #FineDining #ModernAustralian #PerthFoodReview #PFR_Douth #GourmetTraveller #PFRinMargaretRiver #PFR_FineDining #PFR_VoyagerEstate (at Voyager Estate) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbzyTdMP3vo/?utm_medium=tumblr

LIBERTE ALBANY // delicious Pink Galah cocktail and more from @libertealbany - this has been on my to-eat-list for years and glad to have finally ticked it off the list. Love the old world charm and decor of the place. Albany rock oysters were fresh and the Akoya Rockefeller oysters were the dish of the day. Menu on @perthfoodmenu or click #PFR_Liberte What we had: - Albany rock oysters, yuzu and lemongrass vinaigrette $24 (gifted) - Akoya Rockefeller: akoya baked with Pernod cream, Cavolo Nero, garlic, Gruyère, parsley crumb $32 (gifted) - Garlic Chilli crab noodles aka crack noodles $28 - Marron and Pork Banh Xeo: crispy filled crepe with local marron, pork belly, spring onion, bean sprouts, Nuoc Cham for dipping $36 - Profiteroles, Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream, Chocolate ganache, hazelnut, pistachio $16 - Pink Galah cocktail $16 - Ho Chi Minh Iced Tea cocktail $22 The Akoya oysters were baked in Pernod cream and coated in garlicky crumb - this cheesy and crusty deliciousness sat atop a crispy Cavolo Nero (kale). Yummy with a fresh squeeze of lemon. First time trying oysters raw and they were very fresh, creamy and not fishy at all. They smell of the ocean and the yuzu and lemongrass vinaigrette pairing was appetising. Very nice with their best-selling Pink Galah cocktail which was yum - hint of sour notes and sweetness. Could easily drink three of the Pink Galah cocktails in one sitting. Garlic chilli crab noodles aka crack noodles were flavoursome (think tangy, sour and spicy flavours) but we couldn’t find much crab on the dish - more crab would definitely have made it more crack. The banh xeo was crispy but again we couldn’t find much pork or marron which was a shame. Ended with their profiterole desserts which was Vietnamese coffee ice cream sandwiched between deep-fried profiterole - very strong coffee flavour which kept us awake throughout the drive back to Perth. Thank you so much Anthea @akoya_adventures @leeuwincoast for organising the complimentary oysters for us to sample. Glad to support a local Albany business and see different renditions of Akoya oysters offered across the state. #LiberteAlbany #Albany #Oysters #PFR_Douth PFRinAlbany (at Liberte) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca_svirvmpS/?utm_medium=tumblr

SEAFOOD BOARD FOR TWO 🦞🦪🐙🐟🥟🥗🍟🍋 // aud95 from Little Beach Store @littlebeach.store - our delicious lunch after a morning at Castle Rock aka Porongurup National Park and en route to Albany (26 mins away). Located right beside The Old Marron Farm @theoldmarronfarm_ . Menu on last few pics. The barbecued marrons with lime-wasabi butter and spicy seared Albany octopus were cooked to perfection - especially love the sweet and juicy marrons! Could have ordered another serve of marrons on its own. 😍 Coffin bay oysters with shallot vinaigrette were fresh and the slightly tangy fresh green salad had yummy dressing. Crispy prawn gyozas didn’t have much prawn and the beer-battered fish was overly salty. Definitely save this post for your Albany visit! Highly recommend the marrons and octopus here. Personally I prefer marrons over lobsters any day. 😋 #TheLittleBeachStore #OldMarronFarm #Kalgan #Albany #SeafoodBoard #Marrons #Octopus #Oysters #AlbanyFood #PerthFoodReview #PFR_Douth #PFRinAlbany #PFR_LittleBeachStore #PFR_OldMarronFarm (at Little Beach Store) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca_E1FGv9U4/?utm_medium=tumblr
