An attack on a school leaves Aizawa and a small, Quirkless child hospitalized, both struggling for breath. Outside their hospital rooms, their friends are left fighting the HPSC, mysterious Quirks, and growing helplessness to find a cure before time runs out and both hero and child drown on dry land.
Whumptober Day 13. BREATHE IN BREATHE OUT    Delayed Drowning | Chemical Pneumonia | Oxygen Mask
Don't you die on me You haven't made your peace Live life, breathe, breathe Don't you die on me You haven't made your peace Live life, breathe, breathe
- Within Temptation, Dark Wings
Toshinori stood outside his coworker (and friend)'s hospital room, feet braced, hands on his hips, staring down at the HPSC agents that were determined to enter Aizawa's room despite not having clearance, despite being on his paperwork as being forbidden from entering his hospital room.
The dorm kids were inside, those who could find any excuse to be. There wasn't anything they could do, but they were determined not to let their dad out of their sight. The rest of the kids were in their rooms (he hoped) either getting treated or watching over their friends.
No one in the hospital would have thought to stop HPSC agents on their way to the hero wing.
Toshinori wasn't by nature a suspicious man. He liked to think the best of people. But years of a successful hero career, of being the 'Number One Hero', had taught him how to be.
And he was very suspicious of the HPSC agents' appearance here, so soon after the attack. When no one knew just what had happened yet save those who'd been there. Sure, there had been reporters on scene, but they wouldn't have been able to say much, given the students were still minors and Shouta-kun was Underground.
So how were they here so fast? And what could they possibly want with Shouta-kun, when he was unconscious and unlikely to wake for hours at the very least (he would wake up. Toshinori was sure of it. Shouta-kun was a stubborn man, with a heart larger than Toshinori had suspected, and he wouldn't leave them. Not like this. No, he would wake up, even if he had to give them all a bit of a scare first).

He
He is the reason I drink
and see I don't drink
You see
Got me doing all the things
I don't normally do
Like shave past the knee
Play Susie Homemaker for he
Hoping he'd come home
But he won't
But he
Said he
won't hurt me no more
Said He
won't go there no more
Now see
He is the reason
I smoke
No not greens but
Menthols
No But they're shorts
No but they're longs
No but I got the patch
So it won't be here for long
Like he
Sorta like we -
Especially when we
Had a meeting of the minds
And he
Would Glide past my thighs
dipped into my soul
Saw my future in his eyes
And I couldn't stop screaming
And it was true
I didn't stop screaming
Because he
Said
Because he
Promised
He is the reason I suffer
No but its me
That I can agree on
Promised myself I wouldn't
let him enter again
But i swear
if he
said please
Then I'd melt
In hopes that
He would
Clean up the mess
In hopes that
He would
Climb into my bed
In hopes
That here
He'd lay his head
On me
Sweet dreams of me and
He
Is the reason I be
The reason I be
trippin.

I finally finished a fic! Whooo!
Aizawa Shouta and Yamada Hizashi were romantic soulmates. That was a closely kept secret, as was the fact that their soul-siblings (Aizawa's in particular) were numerous, as were the number of soul-children that needed them (Aizawa's doing once again).
But once, they had a third romantic soulmate. Who was used to make the nomu Kurogiri. So it made sense to those who found out about that to try and use it to get through the brainwashing and experimentation to Shirakumo.
This is the aftermath of that decision.
Whumptober Day 12: I THINK I’VE BROKEN SOMETHING Broken Down | Broken Bones | Broken Trust
Shouta stumbled into the teacher's dorms, his body heavy and unresponsive. His mind felt full of fog, unable to do much more than keep him moving at this point. He was relatively uninjured, mostly bruised and exhausted...but he felt as battered as he'd been after the USJ.
Hizashi strode in by his side, looking mostly unaffected to those who didn't know him, scraped and a little battered at worst – at least, until he faceplanted full length onto one of the lounges in an impressive swoop, with no sagging at the knees or wobbling to sully the transition from vertical to horizontal.

Whumptober Day 14. IS SOMETHING BURNING? Branding | Heat Exhaustion | Fire
Shouta woke to the sound of screaming and the sight of someone standing over him with a needle.
That was never a good sign.
It was a worse sight when he knew he'd been on patrol (he'd cut back on patrols since the dorms, since the reveal of One for All to him, since the USJ, focusing more on this Nightmare Class, but he still had some patrols) before waking up here.
It had been a long, long time since anyone had managed to get the drop on Shouta.
And now...Shouta strained against the restraints on his arms, the leather buckled tight and leaving him no wiggle room. He could feel the leather restraints on his wrists and ankles as well, binding him to the railings on the bed...a gurney?

The Starlight Princess Ch 02
Instrumental – In a Hidden Grove – Flute Solo, Sunlit Garden
In a hidden grove, deep in the woods, cradled in a tiny valley, laid a little cottage. The cottage walls were whitewashed, its beams and door-posts and windowsills aged to dark wood and sheened to a satin shine with the passing of many hands.
Outside the cottage flowers ran wild, as if they were simply told to grow as they would, and ivy crept up the beams to tangle in the edges of the roof.
Inside sat a tiny girl at a table far too big for her, her legs swinging under her chair as she stared at her book. Longingly she kept peeking out the window at the golden sunshine, bright and thick as the butter she helped her father churn, that laid abundantly across the dancing flowers. The trees that ring their little grove sang in the breeze, the shadows under them promising coolness and air scented with sweet spicy pine.
She sighed heavily and the man across the room glanced over, eyes loving and indulgent. He put down the dress he had been mending and came to stand at the young girl's side, bending over her shoulder.
“What's wrong, little star?”
She looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes, too wide and innocent, pleading.
“Can't I go outside? It's too pretty out to stay in here all day!”
He hummed thoughtfully, looking down at her slate.
“Finish this problem and promise to finish the rest after dinner, and you may go outside.”
The little girl brightened and hurried to finish her problem, pushing away from the table and rushing for the door as soon as the last mark was made on her slate, free at last.
“You didn't promise yet,” the man called after her, unmoving and amused.
The girl paused, at the edge of freedom, caught. “Promise,” she called back, and then she was gone, with the sound of her father's indulgent laughter trailing after her.

“Never let anyone see your skin.”
It was the first lesson Snufkin had learned, one of the few things he could remember of his father.
“When you give someone your skin, you're tied to them, and you can never go back to the sea. And if someone steals it, they'll hold you trapped until you find it again. Someone worthy of knowing is rare, so guard it with your life, and before you let them know, be sure.”

Snufkin followed the fillyjonk into the mansion slowly, pulling his paw back out of his grip quickly, as soon as he registered what was happening. It felt like he was walking through a nightmare, unable to turn back but afraid to move forward, everything happening through a fog.
They exited the hallway into a library, and Snufkin's world focused on the chest sitting on the table top.
The open chest, with his seal skin folded neatly inside.

The pair found Snufkin on his way back from Mymble's, taking a rambling path through the Valley.
He jolted a little when Moomin called out his name, but smiled at them warmly all the same, raising his paw to wave as they rushed to meet him.
“Snufkin! Can we talk about something?” Moomin asked as soon as they were close. “It's something good! At least, I hope it is,” he added quickly when Snufkin hesitated.
Telling someone like Snufkin 'we need to talk' without context was almost always a good way to get them to panic, if silently.
As it was, Snufkin nodded and didn't pull away when Moomin took his paw, pulling Snufkin along as they walked.

Preview:
In his apartment in the teacher's dorms of UA high, Pro-Hero Eraserhead carefully set down another official letter from the Hero Public Safety Commission and tried not to give in to the temptation to destroy the fancy paper in fury and frustration.
This was the fourth letter they'd sent, and they were getting testy.
Shouta was getting pretty testy about it, too.
The first one had managed to sound reasonable enough – an offer to help train Eri, to help her with the power that still frightened her at times (though with so many people excited about her Quirk, she was learning all the ways she could help people, all the ways she could see it as a blessing as a curse. Not for the first time Shouta was grateful he'd seen potential in Midoriya and not expelled him that first day (even if he would've been re-enrolled a day later, it was a usually very effective scare tactic to get students to take this seriously and if they didn't, well, the second one stuck) given how enthusiastic the boy was about Quirks and all the ways they could be used.).
Between knowing she was safest here, with him and his Erasure, with so many willing teachers, with people who cared about Eri rather than her Quirk and were willing to treat her as the frightened little girl she was, and knowing what he did about the Hero Commission and their tendency to care only for 'the greater good' (read: what most benefited the Hero Commission) Shouta hadn't hesitated in sending a polite but firm 'no' from the first letter and giving the original letter and a copy of his reply to Nezu.
He could handle it himself, sure, but this year had helped force him to really face how often he couldn't, and how much he needed the people around him. So to Nezu the letters went, to be stored in one of his mysterious hidey-holes.
The second letter attempted to sweeten the deal. By then, the adoption papers had gone through, and Eri was officially a Aizawa-Yamada, just like Hitoshi.

Snufkin huddled into the corner of the couch in his sister's living room.
Most of the time he didn't enjoy being indoors for long periods of time, with a few exceptions, such as Moomin House, and even then he needed to leave eventually. He'd gotten better, able to spend from dinner and overnight, but he needed to leave almost as soon as the sun was up the next morning.
His goal was to be able to join them for breakfast the next morning before running off, but for now, no one was more understanding than they were about his need to be outside.
His sister's house was one of those places that he couldn't figure out if he was comfortable in or not. One the one paw, it was cluttered, as if to make up for all those years of being The Oldest, of having little that was hers and hers alone and wouldn't have to be passed down to (or broken by) her siblings eventually. On the other, it wasn't as if her things were obsessively tidy, like Mrs. Fillyjonk's, and she didn't mind if he mussed it up to a point. It was already so cluttered, she really couldn't tell if it got messed up somewhat. So long as it was Clean.
But everything had a place, to keep it from being Too Much, as it sometimes was back in Mymblemamma's home, with everyone's shared possessions scattered everywhere. And there was so much of it...
Despite what some people thought, Snufkin did keep himself clean, it was just...living outside all year round meant he didn't stay as clean as those who lived in Proper Homes. So sometimes, he still had just enough dirt or grass on him for the fussy to get upset over, and that was before they got onto him about the tattered state of his clothing, as if anything would stay pristine when he spent so much of his time wandering around in the woods and on beaches.
Which all were thoughts to distract him from why Snufkin was actually here.

Moomin wasn't surprised when he woke up early from hibernation a second time. Thankfully it was actually edging towards spring this time, if the melting snow outside was any sign.
At least it was anticipation nerves that woke him, not fearful nerves and worries and nightmares.
Snorkmaiden woke up a day after Moomin did, and his parents the day after, so it wasn't so bad. Plus, he got an early start on the spring chores, so his part would be done early enough he could wait for Snufkin's arrival without worrying about getting them done or missing Snufkin's arrival while folding dust covers and beating a winter's worth of dust out of the rugs.
It was strange, to wait for Snufkin with Snorkmaiden by his side, but if things worked out, then someday they'd both be waiting for him like this, equally anxious and eager.

HC: Somebody makes an Alcor horror game, and Dipper decides to see what its like for shits and giggles. He screams when the fictional recreation of himself jumpscares him. In fairness, the fictional recreation was absolutely horrifying in its design, and the jumpscare did manage to take him by surprise and anybody can be startled and it doesn’t mean he was actually scared - or so he argues.
Read on AO3 // Read on FF.net
Of the triplets, Hank was the most into video games. It was the challenge of them that called to him. Generally, he preferred the puzzle games, the games that required concentration and could be as quiet as his jigsaw puzzles, but he could ignore the violence, should a game with it catch his attention. He'd already seen too much, with his cult bashing mom and demonic uncle, to let obviously fake blood bother him.
His sisters enjoyed playing them against him too, and Uncle Dipper could be just as much of a geek about it as he could other things.
This newest game wasn't one that was to the usual taste of anyone in the family, but after reading the description online, Hank had to buy it.
It wasn't everyday someone dared to make a game whose big boss, everyone agreed, was an obvious expy of The Dreambender, despite the game creator’s denials.
With that sort of enticement, how could any of the triplets resist?
It was a decent horror game, all told. Good atmosphere, unsettling music, brief hinted flashes of the 'demon' at the center of it all – little things, like eyes watching from the darkness that disappeared when you turned the camera to look at them straight on, black shadows whipping past the edge of the camera, tiny growls that seemed part of the soundtrack at first but were too dissonant, too close, to dismiss.
The fact that the trio were playing it at night when they had the house, the old, old, house that made noises as it settled and was full of demon-touched, if familiar, items didn't hurt either.
But the best part of it all was at the end, when 'Alcor'...oh, pardon, not 'Alcor', not 'The Dream Bender' but 'The Nightmare Warper', finally appeared.
With a screech that shattered the quiet, almost peaceful music that had been playing, a surprise rush of teeth and claws and too many eyes and limbs at the screen, a jump scare that caught all three triplets by surprise.
Once breaths had been caught and heart rates began to slow back to normal, nervous and surprised laughter under control, three evil grins were shared. They had to show their parents...no, they had to show Uncle Dipper this!
“...to shoot,” Hank finished explaining the controls, leaning over his uncle where they were all sprawled on the floor of the living room, working through the game's tutorial level. “Think you can handle it?”
Dipper scoffed. “It's a video game based on me,” he said, and all three could hear the pride lurking in his voice, mixed with a little pain, both from the same source – the was feared and known enough to inspire something (other than Twin Souls). “And I'm a demon. I think I can handle it.”
“Get 'im good, kids!” their mom's voice called out from the kitchen, where she had moved her current craft project, citing a need for a large, flat surface – the kitchen table, in this case.
The triplets, one and all, suspected it was half so she could watch the fun. They hadn't told her what was coming, but their mom was frighteningly good at sniffing out mischief.
Dipper stuck his tongue out in the direction of the kitchen before turning his attention back into the game.
As the kids had predicted, their uncle's laser focus (that their mother claimed had only been sharped by his transformation) soon had him utterly absorbed in the game. His forked tongue stuck the tiniest bit out of the corner of his mouth, golden eyes intent as a cat stalking prey as he squirmed and twisted, as if his character would move along with him.
It was a good thing for the triplets that he was so engaged, or he may have picked up on their anticipation ahead of time and ruined the surprise.
The unholy screech Dipper let out when he counterpart roared into life on the screen, complete with controller flying into the air as he toppled backwards and blipped behind the couch, was well worth the wait.
And G-grunkle Stan's “SHOW ME THE OBJECT OF MOCKERY!” as he came barreling in from the other room as Uncle Dipper began to protest that he was just surprised darn it stop laughing” was the cherry on top.
Utterly worth having to cajole their uncle into replacing all the light bulbs he'd shattered in his surprise, in the triplet's opinion.
