9 Ship Songs
I technically wasn't tagged by anyone specifically but @isayashai did a catch-all tag, and I'm finishing up a big project which means I'm getting back into the writing headspace, which inevitably means more Pippa/Fenris content. So let's rock and roll. If you want to listen to their ever-growing playlist, it's available here.
1. Sea Meets Earth // Fever Fever
Your skin touched my skin And I could feel the breaking of my cold, stone heart Was about to begin The moment that we Locked eyes
2. Fascination // Nat King Cole
It was fascination, I know Seeing you alone with the moonlight, above Then I touch your hand and next moment, I kiss you Fascination turned, to love
3. House a Habit // We Are the Guests
Wide open skies ahead Here's where I lay myself down and Wait till rivers rise up over my own head Oh please don't imagine a life without me at least not yet This house is a habit and it's lovely to live in it Comfort stirs inside my bed
4. She Knows // John Fullbright
Where could she go that I would not follow Leaving my sorrow behind She knows a thing or two about love She learned long before me The day is already done before it has begun She's the only one that commands the sun With her I will be She knows a thing or two about me
5. Stayaway // MUNA
No one ever told me leaving was the easy part I gotta stay away Leaving you was easy, now I gotta do what's hard I gotta stay away Any little misstep I'll be at your doorstep Talking 'bout forgiveness Giving you my heart back
6. Paperweight// Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk
Been up all night staring at you Wondering what's on your mind I've been this way with so many before But this feels like the first time And you want the sunrise to go back to bed And I want to make you laugh
7. About You Now // Meadowlark
All that it takes, one more chance Don't let our last kiss be our last Give me tonight and I'll show you I know everything changes I don't care where it takes us 'Cause I know how I feel about you now
8. Nebraska // Oh Wonder
Been to Nebraska, I've been to Rome I've walked the desert and swam below Climbed many mountains, traveled the skies I've been to Heaven, oh, how I've tried To get you out my mind but You're still home
9. Things Are Better // Tyler Lyle
You are my sunshine You are my red wine You are my reason to sing And if that day comes, when a song is not enough I will learn to paint

3 for fenris and pippa, 39 for ori and anders (AND YOU'LL TELL IT AGAIN), 34 for both 😊
3. What was their first impression of each other?
Fenris first sees Pippa dancing and singing in the Hanged Man. His very first thought is her laugh is one of the most beautiful sounds he's ever heard. Pippa is a little flustered and intimidated by the tall, handsome stranger with a very large sword, but once they get to talking, they get along like a house on fire, and Fenris ends up walking her home.
39. When and how did they admit that they loved each other? If they haven’t yet, why?
Anders gets brought to Skyhold for judgement, and after a lengthy trial, during which Ori hears testimony from a queue of witnesses, and pardons him. She offers him the position of lead healer which he accepts. He spends the next week in Skyhold getting angrier and sadder because he can see how much she's struggling, and no one else seems to notice or care. One night, after seeing her look at someone else with what he assumes are romantic intentions, and subsequently drinking heavily in the Herald's Rest, Ori approaches him and asks what's wrong. Anders drunkenly admits he's been in love with her since Kirkwall, that he tried to find her after he went on the run, and that being in Skyhold and watching her with someone else is too painful, and he's going to leave. He gives her a single kiss on her lips whilst she stands there shocked, and then walks away. That's when it finally hits Ori that she loves him too, and she chases after him. It's not published, but if you want to read this scene in full, it's here.
34. Do they have any inside jokes?
Ori and Anders have plenty from their days working together in Kirkwall. Pippa and Fenris have a few, but it's much rarer for them to reference them out loud. It usually only takes a shared meaningful look for them to both fall about laughing.

When the fifth blight sends her family across the Waking Sea, Pippa Hawke finds herself a world away from the quiet farms of Lothering. But she is not an adventurer or a warrior. Whilst her siblings are fighting dragons and exploring the deep roads, Pippa is volunteering at the refugee shelter.
Her compassion and patience quickly endear her to everyone she meets – in particular, a fugitive slave from Tevinter, aided by her brother on one of his night-time excursions. But Kirkwall is a powder keg rigged to explode, and with tensions running higher every day, Pippa has to try and navigate a landscape full of combat, corruption and chaos with nothing but freshly baked bread and gentle words to guide her.
it's actually happening! i am SO excited to announce this project officially. thank you to everyone that's supported and encouraged me to write and keep writing, and everyone that expressed interest in this fic! i can't wait to tell pippa's story.

Pippa wasn’t sure exactly how long passed. It was likely only a minute or so, but those precious seconds stretched into eternity, everyone suspended in that moment, in the space between life and death. She saw sweat starting to form on Bethany’s brow, and her hands began to shake. She’s hurting herself, Pippa thought. If she doesn’t stop soon, we’ll lose both of them. “Bethany…” she said out loud, almost as a warning. Bethany didn’t reply, and Pippa was about to grab her hand to physically interrupt her casting, but then Bethany slumped backwards and dropped her hands, letting out a long breath. She promptly turned to the side and vomited, trembling like a leaf from head to toe, all colour drained from her face. “Maker’s breath, Beth,” Garrett said. “You look like shit.”

wip whenever
i got tagged by the wonderful @isayashai and i need to post more wips to actually get myself to work on fic, so here is a future excerpt of honey and wildfire where fenris meets pippa for the first time. if you see this and you want to post something, please do! and tag me in whatever you post, i'd love to see it!
Fenris had not expected to find himself walking towards the Hanged Man. He still wasn't accustomed to company, let alone company he enjoyed. It had taken no small amount of coaxing on Isabela's part - as well as Bethany Hawke's assurance that her older brother would be elsewhere - but he had eventually relented. Despite his reservations, he still cracked a small smile as he pushed through the door into the warmth and loud chatter.  There was lively music playing, and as Bethany waved him over to their table, he noticed a small group of people that had cleared a space by the stairs to dance. He sat, giving the assembled parties a nod and smile of greeting, and then his gaze was inexplicably drawn back to the dancers, and one woman in particular.  She looked shorter than him - though not by much. She wore a deep red dress hemmed with gold, and her hair was cut into a short bob, a fringe just brushing her eyebrows. Her feet were bare, and she spun effortlessly in the confined space; the happiness radiating from her washed over him like a warm, summer breeze. She staggered a little, clearly giddy, then she laughed, and Fenris didn't think he'd ever heard a more wonderful sound.

so the light answers
This is silly and short, and mostly unedited, but my jewish ass wanted to write something for Hanukkah, so chag sameach I guess xoxo
“Fenris, where are the candles?”
“Have you tried looking with the regular candles?”
“Yes! We looked there first! That would have been the sensible place to put them.”
Pippa frantically opened another cupboard and rifled through it to no avail. It was the first night of Hanukkah, and the candles for the menorah were conveniently missing. It would be funnier if sundown wasn’t fast approaching, and she was becoming increasingly frustrated. At least they had the menorah itself.
She sighed, closed the cupboard and half-ran up the stairs to start searching the bedroom. She opened drawers, cupboards, she even checked the chest at the end of the bed to no avail, and eventually let out a loud groan of frustration and flopped herself face down on the bed. A few moments later she heard the telltale click of claws against wood, and then Scout’s muzzle was hot against her cheek.
“Hey girl,” Pippa said, reaching out an arm to scratch her ears without raising her head from where it was buried in the pillow.
She heard Fenris appear soon after, and sighed as she turned her face so she could see him. He was leaning against the wall, smiling softly and far too calm.
“Pippa,” he said quietly. “It’s alright.”
“It’s not,” she protested. “It’s important. I want to celebrate with you. I want you to be able to share in this and feel connected and all the things we’ve talked about before.” She sat up, and rubbed her temples. “It’s not just candles, Fenris. It’s your heritage. And Hanukkah is your favourite.”
There was a look of softness on his face that Pippa didn’t see often. He crossed to her and kissed her forehead so gently and reverently, as if she were a flower whose petals would bruise if he touched her with any more force.
“I love you, Pippa.”
She sighed and closed her eyes, leaning against his stomach. “I love you too.”
“Have you tried the attic?”
Pippa’s eyes snapped open. “Fenhedis, of course!”
Fenris laughed as she scrambled up and dashed from the room. “Watch your language!”
As Pippa poked her head through the hatch, she saw the elusive box immediately, and a triumphant grin crossed her face. Finally. She grabbed it and tossed it down to a waiting Fenris, nearly slipping as she made her way back down and nearly dragged him to the waiting menorah.
She pressed herself close to him as he lit the shamash and the first candle, and warm light filled the space around them as he murmured the blessing, one arm wrapped around her. They stood and watched the flames. The air was still and hushed, and in the silence, Pippa felt completely serene. Almost sacred.
“Happy Hanukkah, Pip.” Fenris murmured.
Pippa could hear the emotion in his voice, and pressed an idle kiss against his shirt. “Happy Hanukkah, Fenris.”

* * * * * * *
"Admit it, Miss Hawke. You're outmatched."
Pippa's heart raced, her breath coming in short, sharp pants. She was backed into a corner, that was undeniable. But she refused to give up so easily. Sweat beaded along her hairline as she grinned up at her adversary from under her fringe.
"Never."
She darted forward, staying low just like Carver had taught her, and wrapped her arms around Fenris' legs.
"Oh fuck, Pip, Pip, fuck stop I'm going to fall-!" He toppled to the floor long before he finished, laughing all the way down and landing with a thud on the carpet. Pippa released him, also laughing, and stuck her fists in the air.
"I win!"
"Not if I can help it," Fenris said, and launched forward to grab her. She shrieked gleefully as he yanked her down, rolling her onto her back and pinning her to the floor by her wrists. Pippa managed to wriggle one arm free of his grasp but he only raised an eyebrow in response and collapsed on top of her, becoming a total deadweight.
"Fenriiiis-" Pippa whined, still giggling breathlessly and futilely attempting to shift him off her chest.
"What?" He asked innocently, the mirth in his voice apparent and profoundly irritating. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Sweet maker you are so annoying!" Pippa thumped her fist against Fenris' back to no avail, and it only served to make him laugh harder.
Pippa continued to struggle, heaving her arms against Fenris' torso, but it was no use, until she brushed a spot just under his ribs that made him jolt like he had been struck with an electric spell. She poked it again and he squirmed, trying to maintain his hold on her, but Pippa was incessant and he writhed so much that she was able to wriggle free, flipping him onto his back. She straddled his chest and pinned his hands either side of his head, panting heavily from the exertion whilst he scowled up at her from the floor.
"You're a cheat."
She smirked at him. "We didn't specify no tickling in the rules."
Fenris' only response was to stick out his tongue and sulk, and Pippa collapsed into giggles again.
"You're just sore that you lost."
"I never accepted defeat," Fenris replied coolly, with a loud huff.
"Right. That's why I still have you pinned against the carpet. Because you won." Pippa tried to sound as skeptical and deadpan as possible, but she was still too breathless to have any real conviction in her voice. She softened, and leaned down to nuzzle Fenris' nose with hers. "How about a truce?" She murmured, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
Fenris immediately responded, humming like a contented cat against her mouth. "That seems acceptable."

build me up from bones
After a night of wine and laughter, Pippa Hawke and Fenris share their first kiss. [ao3]
How beautiful to find a heart that loves you, without asking you for anything but to be okay. ~ Khalil Gilbran
The fire was still flooding the room with warmth, and Pippa leaned closer, eyes heavy lidded from the wine, and fixed on Fenris' mouth. Their lips met, and for a second, she was breathless, but then Fenris pulled away and she looked up to see him rigid in his chair, boring a hole through the floor with his stare, resolutely not looking at her.
Embarrassment washed over Pippa in waves, and tears burnt in her eyes as she stumbled over half formed apologies and got clumsily to her feet, just about ready to jump into the harbour. At the last second, a hand snapped out to grab her wrist and she froze.
"Don't go."
”Don’t go.” Fenris pleaded, so quietly she could barely hear him over the crackle of the flames. Pippa paced backwards until she was level with his chair, and waited, stomach still lurching and shame still prickling up the back of her neck. Fenris released her. "I was a slave. I won't bore you with the details, but I'm... not used to people asking for my permission."
He still couldn't meet her eye, and her heart ached for him. "Fenris," she said quietly, "I want you to know I won't ever do anything you don't want me to."
He flinched at that, curling in on himself a little. "Don't -" he said before making a visible effort to stop himself speaking, to sit up and look - not at her, but at least in her direction. "That's what I mean," he continued, hands fisting in the lavish velvet of his seat. "I don't – I can handle cruelty, or violence, or indifference, even. But I - I don't know what to do when someone is kind to me. Everything I've learned just tells me it's a trap."
Pippa perched gingerly on the edge of the table. "Do you want to kiss me?" She asked, gently, patiently.
"Yes," Fenris breathed, finally looking up and meeting her gaze. "Very much."
Pippa couldn't stop her heart from fluttering. "Do you want to take the lead then? You kiss, I kiss. You stop, I stop." She smiled encouragingly.
Fenris' brow slowly unfurrowed as he processed her words. "I... yes. All right." He slowly got to his feet, standing in front of Pippa and taking a long, steadying breath, before leaning down to brush his lips against hers.
As their mouths met, warmth flooded through Pippa. Even chaste like this, the gesture felt heady and sweet. Fenris' arms remained at his side, so Pippa kept hers in her lap despite an overwhelming urge to pull him down by his shirt and kiss him until she was dizzy. Still, she couldn't stop herself smiling so wide her cheeks ached.
Fenris pulled away, looking a little perplexed.
"All right?" Pippa asked.
"You're smiling."
"Yes," she replied, unable to refrain from teasing, "That tends to be the reaction when I'm happy."
Fenris' mouth twitched at the corners in response, and it only made the butterflies in her stomach multiply. "You liked it, then?"
"I did," she murmured, suddenly aware of how close his face still was to hers. "And you?"
Fenris reached up to gently cup her cheek, humming appreciatively. “I did.” His thumb stroked over her skin, and when he spoke again, his voice was practically a purr. “May I… do it again?”
Pippa nodded, tilting her head up in invitation, and when Fenris covered her mouth with his this time, she couldn’t help but let out a little moan against his lips. Her face felt hot where he was touching it, and then he inhaled sharply and deepened the kiss, his other hand coming to rest on her back, pulling her closer. She made a small noise of surprise when she felt his tongue, but it quickly shifted to a soft moan, and she mirrored him, placing her hand on his face. He flinched a little in surprise, but didn’t pull away, continuing to kiss her with a desire so tangible it made her clothes feel far too tight. She was aching for more, wanted to ravish him right there on the rug in front of the fire and trail her tongue down his chest, but she’d be damned if she let her enthusiasm push Fenris into something he wasn’t ready for, and given that this was undoubtedly the most wonderful kiss she’d ever experienced, it was easy to suppress those urges, and store them away for another time.
When Fenris finally pulled away, Pippa chased his lips with a small noise of protest, before opening her eyes and blushing, ducking her head with a shy smile as he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Fenris was frowning a little, and Pippa regarded him questioningly.
“What is it?”
“It didn’t hurt,” he murmured, only half looking at her. Pippa tilted her head slightly, and Fenris continued. “The tattoos, they - if someone touches them, it’s unpleasant. Mostly, it’s just discomfort, like an old injury that hasn’t quite healed. Sometimes it’s painful.” He held his hand out, staring at the white, vein-like markings stark against his palm. “But it didn’t hurt when you touched them.” He looked up, eyes meeting Pippa’s, and she felt her stomach lurch.
Without breaking his gaze, she very slowly took her hand, and traced the lines from the base of Fenris’ palm to his fingertips. He inhaled sharply, and Pippa immediately withdrew, but he shook his head and reached out his other hand to cling to hers.
“Don’t-” His eyes flicked down to where his fingers curled around her wrist, breathing heavily, and shaking ever so slightly. “Please, Pippa,” he breathed. “Do it again.” He pulled her hand up to his face to touch the lines on his chin, “Here. Please.”
“Fenris-”
“Please.” He urged.
Pippa relented, and feather-light, ran the pad of her thumb over the markings. Fenris inhaled again, and Pippa watched in surprise as his eyes fluttered a little, and he leant into the touch. “What is it?” She asked, softly.
“It’s… good.” Fenris said, as she continued to gently brush over his skin.
Pippa blinked. “You… you like it?”
Fenris nodded, and slowly lifted her hand away from his face so he could press his palm flat against hers, sighing again softly at the touch. “It doesn’t hurt,” he repeated, voice full of wonder, an almost child-like awe on his face as he stared at their hands.
Before Pippa could ask anymore questions, or work through the implications of what had passed between them, the markings on the back of his hand began to glow. In fact, his entire body lit up. Not the searing blue she had become accustomed to in battle, but a gentle luminescence, like soft candlelight from behind a linen screen. Pippa was awestruck, but when Fenris noticed, he started and jumped back, staring at his hands in confusion and slowly dawning horror.
“What is this?!”
The light was already fading, like it was sinking back into his skin, and sensing his growing terror, Pippa launched forward and grabbed one of his hands, pressing a soft kiss to his palm and then clutching it tightly. “Fenris, Fenris it’s alright. You’re safe, I promise, you’re safe.” When Fenris caught her eye, the fear in his eyes began to subside and his breathing returned to normal. Pippa held his gaze. “You’re safe.” She repeated, smiling reassuringly, and reached up to cup his cheek. He smiled back, and as the tension left his shoulders, the glow returned, not as brightly as before, but unmistakable, and Fenris shimmered in front of her like starlight on a lake. It was the most beautiful thing Pippa had ever seen.
“What’s happening to me?” He asked hoarsely, clutching Pippa so tightly he was threatening to cut off the blood supply to her fingers.
“This has never happened before?” Pippa asked.
Fenris shook his head. “No.”
They remained in silence for a long while, before Pippa began to speak slowly, ideas forming as she spoke them aloud. “"Fenris," she asked carefully, "have you... has anyone ever touched you because you wanted them to? Really wanted, not just... because you couldn't say no?" Fenris frowned at her, and Pippa carried on. “Your markings are everywhere. It’s hard not to touch you without making contact with them somehow. And for most of your life, whenever someone put their hands on you, it was unwelcome. You didn’t want it. Then you were fighting to survive and in battle and people were trying to take you back to Tevinter, so - could it - is it possible that the markings don’t always hurt, but just when they are touched without permission? When the touch is unsolicited?” Fenris remained quiet, staring at his hands and processing Pippa’s words, and the silence encouraged her to continue. “Could it be that this is how they react when you want someone to touch them? When you’re happy?”
Fenris continued to stare at his hands in silence for so long that Pippa was afraid she’d broken him, but then the corners of his mouth twitched into a smirk and he looked up at her. “Pippa, if you wanted to know if I fancied you, there were much easier ways to find out.”
Pippa started to laugh, and it was so infectious that Fenris joined in. She’d never been so delighted to be teased in her life. “Well,” she says, wiping a tear from her eye, “Carver always said I had a knack for turning men on, you’re just the first person to take it literally.”
Both of them collapsed into giggles again, and Fenris stepped back between her legs and pulled her in tightly against his chest, still chuckling heartily. “I knew you were going to be trouble as soon as I set eyes on you, Miss Hawke.”
“How dare you,” Pippa said, muffled against his shirt. “I am a delight.”
“Yes you are.” Fenris agreed, and Pippa could hear the smile in his voice.
She pulled back, and smiled at him coyly, her eyes as sultry and seductive as she could make them. “Trouble or no, you still wanted to kiss me.”
“Yes I did,” Fenris said, leaning closer and tilting her chin up with the side of his finger. “And I find myself very much wanting to do so again.”
“What’s stopping you then?” Pippa murmured, and Fenris’ reply was to close the gap between them and press their lips together, and he shone so brightly that Pippa could still see it behind her closed eyes.

will i ever publish this? who knows not me
The door to their bedroom was ajar as Fenris approached it, and Pippa was standing frozen in the middle of the floor. He frowned, and knocked on the wood with a single knuckle.
"Amatus?" He asked softly. Pippa turned around at the sound of his voice, and he realised with horror that she was crying. He crossed the space between them in three long strides, and cupped her face, brushing tears away with his thumb. "Amatus, what on earth is wrong?"
To his surprise, Pippa burst into giggles, still weeping even as she brought a hand up to cover her mouth.
"I'm sorry, Fenris," she said, through her laughter. "It's just… I'm just… oh Maker's breath I can scarcely believe it…"
Fenris would be far more worried if she wasn't radiating incandescent joy, but the sight of her tears concerned him nonetheless. "Pip, what's happened?"
"Amatus, I'm pregnant."
send me a 🌹 and I’ll post a section from a random WIP
