Volkswagen California Concept, 2023. A prototype for a new generation VW camper van based on the long version of the Multivan. For the first time, the California is equipped with a sliding door on the kitchen side as well allowing extended use of the space around the vehicle. Using VW's MQB technical platform enables a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with Lithium-ion batteries providing an almost completely autonomous 12V power supply. The concept is described as near-production with sales dues to start next year

When tested on the commuter route, starting with a fully charged battery and driving in the mode selected by the PHEV, the Peugeot and the Renault emitted 1.2–1.7 times the official CO2 (33–50 gCO2/km). They still performed comparatively better than the BMW, which emitted over 100 gCO2/km (3 times the official value). Activation of the BMW’s “anticipatory” mode was needed (by programming the route into the satellite navigation system) to reduce commuting CO2 by around half to 67g/km (2 times the official value). The necessity to use the sat-nav to reduce CO2 to levels closer to the other PHEVs tested is not ideal, as driver’s may not use the sat-nav on known routes, resulting in unnecessarily high CO2emissions.
In city tests, PHEVs powered by the engine emit 5–7 times advertised CO2(..)
P.S. In fact, PHEVs are still ICE vehicles that still use gasoline...

Review: 2024 BMW XM Label
Party, Party, Party! That's what you and your passengers will be chanting as you shoot down the highway in the "lit" BMW XM Label!
When you need a party bus, and have a bulging brokerage account … What’s it like to drive the party bus? I found out, sort of, after BMW supplied me with its top-end plug-in hybrid SUV, the XM Label for a week’s fun and guest riders’ amusement. Why’s that? Easy, the XM is way more expensive than, well, anything I’ve ever tested, and it’s packed with doodads galore. Those frivolities get a lot…

BMW i16, 2020. A previously undisclosed proposal for a successor to the i8 has been revealed by BMW head of design, Domagoj Dukec. The car appears to be a more production-oriented version of the BMW Vision M Next concept from 2019. The project was cancelled to allow BMW M GmbH to concentrate on the XM SUV.

Like fully electric cars, PHEVs cost more upfront than gas cars. There's really no point in spending the extra money on a vehicle with a plug-in powertrain unless you plan to use it. We really couldn't care less if people are throwing their money away by spending more upfront and then being too lazy to take advantage of the savings(..)
P.S. Consumerism at its worst, because people often don't think at all about what they are buying and why they bought this car, and how to use it properly...
Thinking about all the things of road transport logically, it turns out that in most situations of use plug-in hybrids are actually already morally outdated technology: in the city, for short distances, you are transporting an unnecessary internal combustion engine and fuel tank, but for longer distances, too small a capacity and rather heavy battery, which also charges too slowly.
Moreover, these hybrids are actually quite expensive to buy, and you need gasoline or diesel as well...! No, I am not a fan of plug-in hybrids!
Plug-in hybrids made sense sometime between 2012 and 2017, but  now, they  are a waste of resources and time...

2024 Volvo S90 Recharge AWD Ultimate Review
Luxury AND efficiency? Oh yes, the Volvo S90 Recharge is a plug-in hybrid that delivers 52 miles of range and I got ... wait for it ... 169 mpg!
Luxurious, roomy S90 Recharge also a super efficient PHEV … Imagine getting 169.4 mpg in a week’s drive. You read that right, not just 69 mpg, but 169 mpg while driving 288 miles. Gas cost? Just $5.48 for 1.7 gallons. Unimaginable! But real! That’s what this week’s fabulous Volvo S90 Recharge plug-in hybrid (PHEV) delivered because I plugged it in each night to my lowly 110-volt garage outlet…

we spent eight fucking hours car shopping today but have finally returned with a new (used) car. it’s nothing exciting (I wish I could go electric but it’s just not practical right now) but it’s a make/model I’m familiar with, it won’t make me completely broke, there’s less than 60k miles on it, and I got the keys before I have to return my rental tomorrow. there was a solar eclipse while I was car shopping. we forgot to eat lunch in between dealerships. and I am still experiencing The Symptoms. surreal day.
