I was half joking about Trudy being a stepford wife made by her husband but the more I think about it, the more it would be sort of a natural progression with the kinds of characters Beth May plays. As a player Beth really seems to like exploring characters and how their "creators" have shaped them into who they are (more than average in a show that explores intergenerational trauma). Season 1 really explored Ron's lack of confidence and insecurity in being loved as a direct result of Willy, and in S2 a lot of Scary's own insecurities are implied to stem from the absence of her biological father. These examples are much more ephemeral in a trauma-y kinda way but do highlight a creative interest in dissecting the ties between a character and their maker.

As of episode 1 when I'm writing this, Trudy's closet equivalent is her husband, an "inventor" working in his basement 24/7 on something. There's no hints or mentions of how they met, only that she follows his law and only his law. While this could just be entirely to fulfill Beth's love for extensive misogynist jokes via 1950s housewife, I generally expect the inherent theater kid need for well-written angst to win out here.

Because DBD is the PERFECT combination of the two. Smooth voiced fancy eloquent Public Figure is ALSO the cares-too-much stubborn detective. He breaks many laws.

The main character is known as the Obituary Writer (OW) and he writes the obituaries of everyone who dies in their little town of Crestfall, Idaho. And he solves murders. Sort of in his spare time.

He has exactly three friends and one of them is The Angel of Death and the other is a phantom bicycle. he also has three man eating cats. He is Canonically Very Pretty. His story doesn’t, as of yet, involve a love interest but he has an incredible story line with his best friend.
