#pokemon retold: red

This is my current fic I’m working on. It doesn’t require anything else to be read first and only has 5 chapters so far (prologue plus 4 chapters).

Obligatory warnings:

Pokemon Retold: Red is a retelling of the generation 1 video game titles "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue," but follows the game "Red" more closely, down to version-exclusive pokemon and the like. This retelling's main character is Red, who was born deaf, and must communicate with others around him with sign language in a country that largely sees him as unworthy or burdensome.

I would like anyone who intends to read this story to know that it will deal with themes of mental illness, ableism, and some violence. This does mean it is likely to lean on angst at parts. While that is not meant to shock or harm anybody, if this is not your cup of tea, that's completely understandable, and I'd recommend reconsidering reading this story. I do not write with the intent of hurting anybody mentally/emotionally. :)

Also, if you have issues with LGBTQA+ topics or people, please stay very far away from me and my stories.

Although part of the Pokémon Retold series, this story will be designed to be read as a standalone story.

DISCLAIMER: I am not deaf. I do not know any deaf people irl. Although I have done some research, at the end of the day, this is a fanfiction that I have written mostly for my and others' enjoyment. If you find its description of a deaf person to be inaccurate or, worse, offensive, know that it is wholly unintentional. For others, you should not get your opinions of real life deaf people from a fanfic. Please take my depiction with a grain of salt and don't assume anything about irl deaf people off of what's presented here. Red's depiction is heavily based on what I think being deaf in THIS SPECIFIC SETTING would be like for a person.

Blue: (walks in and signs at him) what are you up to?

Red: (distractedly signing back to him without ever taking eyes off screen) "who wore it better, Lance or Leon?" (turns screen to show tweet with a side by side picture of Lance and Leon both in capes)

Blue: Why are you starting a war between Kanto and Galar at 8 in the morning, have you even had coffee
