I spent so much time and effort trying to design a worm train fakemon. And yet, before I could even cough up a finalized design, the unthinkable happens.

CHOO CHOO, MOTHERFUCKER

I don't see a name for this magnificent creature yet, but it is undoubtedly one of the standouts of the generation. The only downside is that, as an earthworm and not a marine polychaete, its name cannot be Polyfreight. It's also a bullet train and not a freight train, but you get the point. I would have preferred something less robotic, but it does make sense re: why an earthworm would be pure steel, not part ground, and 9 feet long. It's not like my Dream Pokemon that perfectly matches my aesthetic, but I like its design more than some other gen 9 mons I've seen so far. It's adorably goofy. And again, being a worm automatically makes it top tier for me. Hopefully this is the beginning of a long and beautiful relationship between Pokemon and the phylum Annelida. There's still many things I'd love to see one day which would also become instant favorites. Imagine a leech that learns Leech Life and has Triage (Comfey's ability) to give it priority.

Centro is actively posting leaks for the paradox pokemon, so any moment I could meet Slither Wing, the other mon I've waited with bated breath for.

Not feeling Bisharp's evo. I like the peppers. Roaring Moon looks amazing, it reminds me of Mega Salamence.

HOT TAKES ON THE NEWLY LEAKED SV POKÉDEX

I didn’t mean to see the leaks but I’m wayyy too curious oops. I’m trying to judge these evenly because the pictures we have of the unannounced Pokémon are low quality but I will review this when the game releases!

This post obviously contains spoilers so be warned!!!!

Overall I think the starters are pretty cool! Meowscarada owns my heart and soul I love it’s design soooo much. I never cared if it was bipedal or not and although I would’ve preferred a badass bipedal lynx I’m so happy with what we’ve got (ITS A MAGICIAN GUYS!!!! A MAGICAL CAT!!!). Quaquaval is also really cool, especially the colours omg. I just wish it was a pirate or sailor because as far as I’m aware we don’t really have a pirate inspired Pokémon (also we’ve had two skinny water types in two generations, huh). Skeledirge is probably the most disappointing. A lot of people were correct in predicting a skeletal ghost crocodile but the execution of the final design is just awkward?? I hope when I see it in game my opinion is changed because Fuecoco deserves the world.

The regional(?) birds look kinda boring (they actually look kinda like Tailow and Swellow) but I’m comparing them to how cool Corviknight looked so it’s a little unfair. Their names are super cool though

Nymble and Lokix are not my favourite regional bugs but I guess I just prefer cuter bug friends

Squawkabilly are interesting. When they were snuck into one of the trailers I hoped they’d evolve into a proper Elvis-like bird so I could name one Kass but nope it’s just got different colours which I guess is kinda cool?

I’m sorry but what the hell is going on with Pawmi. It just stands up and gets taller as it evolves with barely any design changes??? Like come on what’s the point on having it evolve three times if it’s barely going to change.

Smoliv on the other hand was done justice. Dollive is SUPER cute and it’s final unnamed evo is fine but it’s kinda hard to tell what’s going on. If I wasn’t choosing Sprigatito I’d have one on my team

So glad everyone was right in thinking the engine on Team Star’s big car was a Pokémon and honestly I think it’s design is really cool! We haven’t had a mechanical Pokémon like this since KlingKlang and it’s a big step up

Tinkatink, Tinkatuff and Tinkaton literally look like those AI generated Fakemon but they’re kinda cute, especially Tinkaton with its big ass hammer?? Definitely considering for my team

Dondozo looks like a Water Temple boss from a Zelda game

We also finally get a dung beetle Pokémon and it evolves into a godlike scarab beetle which is just *chefs kiss*

Bisharp is honestly one of the coolest gen 5 Pokémon and I’m so happy it gets a new evolution!! Dude looks badass

I’ll stop there since the rest of the Pokemon either have already been revealed, are alternate forms or unnamed and besides I’ve been through loads already so I can’t be bothered

Overall opinion: yeah this Gen isn’t great. I wasn’t wowed by all the designs like how I was when SWSH came out. My favourites are Meowscarada, Quaquaval, Dachsbun, Dolliv and Baxcalibur and that’s pretty much it for the new Pokémon shown in the leaks. Gamefreak missed out on a lot of cool design opportunities and instead chose the lazier route (and I’m usually not one of those Pokémon fans that scream at Gamefreak for cutting corners but I will admit it’s kinda shit)

GAME THEORY for new pokemon scarlet and violet: i’m calling this now because i’m convinced. i know i was wrong when i thought the legendaries might be partially based on pens but this one is more solid (spoilers for quietly revealed pokemon in the latest trailer + leaked info about one unrevealed pokemon line in the upcoming game)

the mice specifically. i’m CONVINCED those are meant to be Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters.

the leaked info mentioned a pokemon line that’s a pair of rodents that evolves into a whole family of rodents, and these two have a very toy-like design (bodies kinda remind me of kidrobot dunny?) and also slightly different markings, which some Calico Critter families have between family members. the little dot eyes, the big round ears (a lot of the mice families have those), the neutral expression

the fact that there was a family called the corntop rabbits that looked like this:

anyway i was hoping that the ‘rodents’ would turn out to be marsupials and we’d finally get an opossum pokemon, but i will TAKE sylvanian families, my old familiar kryptonite

Opinions on the SV starter evolutions?

Sorry I'm late! Spoilers under the cut:

I was ambivalent to them but honestly they're growing on me!

Fuecoco's evolutions: Crocalor's little bird nest sombrero is cute and I love the fact that Skeledirge is basically a living keyboard with his bird dancing on his snout to make music! I definitely made the right call choosing him as my starter!

Sprigatito's evolutions: As far as bipedal starters go? Not as bad as it could've been! Floragato having a yo-yo of all things was unexpected in a good way and I've seen people comparing Meowscarada to the Magical Mr. Mistoffelees which is very appropriate imo.

Quaxly's evolutions: Ironically, probably my least favorite of the bunch, but that doesn't mean I dislike them! Quaxwell is cute enough and while Quaquaval kind of weirds me out, I do like how he takes inspiration from other waterbirds besides ducks--indeed, he looks more like a grebe than a duck, which is very creative!
