I’m doing a series where I list the canon and possible au kids of a power ranger based on their implied relationships, almost relationships and highly implied feelings towards a character. I did Kim, so onto Kat! The canon kids get placed first then the oc’s
Canon children and grandchildren:
Tommy Oliver;
JJ Oliver. He seems to be in his early to mid 20’s in comics, and is child aged in tv show. Personality wise we know he’s got a chip on his shoulder, he has a misplaced sense of danger and is perfectly happy sassing someone while they’re threatening to kill him. Seems to be messy and enjoys outdoor activities such as cross country biking and competitions and fighting and is in karate competitions. His relationship to his dad is Rocky. Unfortunately unknown how he gets on with his mom. Possibly good since she’s the one attending his competitions and Tommy is. Not. Personally I actually like JJ, but more because he’s got some interesting groundwork. Do I think he should be green? -cackles- nooooo. He’d be a more interesting Pink. We’ll see if I like his alternate reality half sister more lol. JJ is the SPD green as well as green dragon mighty Morphin ranger.
Granchildren by Tommy Oliver;
While I have made an au version of her grandsons, and will animate them, I will include the canon two. Nameless kids at the end of a Christmas special for zeo. One of them is a zeo red ranger. Technically the first canon legacy ranger, but he’s nameless and seems preoccupied. Seems on good enough terms with his grandparents and baby brother so that’s good. Their parents are unknown but their dad is probably JJ. I named the older one Ethan, too bad he was never given a canon consideration. Both these two and JJ are blank slates. This is a good and bad thing. But I like thinking this canon version is in a world where Zordon is still alive and he doesn’t know his grandparents are the first zeo rangers. Yet.
Unconfirmed second parent;
Agatha Hillard. I like the idea she’s JJ pre transition, but in the interest of being thorough. Here she is. Unknown if she’s a child or grandchild of Kat, but she is a confirmed descendant. Not really sure on her personality. Kat’s canon descendants are very light on personality sadly. She’s a pink ranger it would seem. She might be Tommy’s, she might not. We do not know.
AU children and grandchildren:
Rito Revulto;
Katri Katastrophe (help with the naming conventions of the Mystics). Aged 27. Half Mystic. His parents rule the universe. Kat, during her imprisonment and servitude to Rita got close to Rito Revulto. Very very close. She embraced her evil, and Rito taught her everything she needed. Evil power couple. Katri is prince and heir apparent of the known universe, a sprawling empire Rito and Kat created after killing everyone who’d oppose them. There are scattered handful of rangers and rebellions fighting back. Katri is very much his parents’ son, but….well. Maybe they’re wrong. Crushing hard on this reality’s version of Olivia Hart. Not associated with any color-yet. Will be black when he does finally fold. His true mystic form resembles a skeletal ghost fox. Normal form resembles Rito’s human form. Glamrock. Think 80’s sci fi space opera anime, now think power rangers. Very much a mama’s boy. Vile set him on fire when he was four to attempt to see if the kid had powers; he does but this is why Rito finally got motivated to kill Vile. Astronema is Katri’s bodyguard, and gets pulled along into redemption because he keeps trying to flirt with the resistance leader’s daughter. No; Kimberly does not like Katri lol.
A couple variations;
A more somber version of Katri is one where Kat kills Rito to rule alone. Katri has been mind controlled since he was thirteen. This one won’t become a power ranger. Struggles with his sense of identity, a lot more shy and quiet around Olivia. Wants to help Kat, but is afraid of her.
One where Kat dies and Rito rules alone; absolute wild child, very difficult to control. Leader of a team of villain rangers, is a red here. Complete idiot, but competent. He later becomes black ranger to Olivia’s white ranger. Deeply in love with his leader but she hasn’t noticed yet. He’s trying like hell to help Rito; but is afraid of him, deep down.
David Trueheart;
Gabriella Trueheart, aged 24. Tommy and Kat broke up shortly after the machine empire. Tommy got back with Kim, Kat got with his older brother. This was…maybe not the best move, and it’s only recently the two families are talking again. Gabriella is trying to connect with her cousins, but it’s not her biggest concern. She’s working her way through college, and parrying any and all attempts to make her a power ranger. She’s close to her parents, and her grandfather. She doesn’t get uncle Tommy at all. Thinks Aunt Kim’s cool. Not a fan of her cousin much. Would be black Dino ranger if she’d just accept it. She does not. Yet. Also not afraid of ratting out her uncle to her parents.
A variation is Kat and David divorced and she’s having to deal with her dad also getting together with Stan Skullovitch on top of everything else.
Eugene Skullovitch;
I thought his mild attempts at flirting were cute. They got together after Turbo’s movie. Kat realized she was never going to replace Kim for Tommy, and broke up with him. She got with Skull after a few months and some very creative ways to ask her out. They have two sons. The oldest is Squire Hillard. Aged 17. He’s average height and kind of a brilliant himbo. He lets his reputation cover him like a mask, but he’s pretty devious when he’s properly motivated. A little bit of a tail chaser. He keeps striking out, but that never stopped him. While he is a power ranger (pink), he’s having fun running a podcast questioning who the power rangers are. This cover is so good not even Kat’s figured out he’s pink turbo ranger. Looks like a surfer bro. Prefers it that way. Half brother of Spike Skullovitch. Has had to save his half brother three times so far. Barely gets along with his dad, county Sheriff Eugene Skullovitch, but they’re trying. He’s closer to Kat and like her is a professional diver. He wants to get into the Olympics. His general outfit could best be described as “someone from the peppermint forest in candyland decided to become a pirate”. He actually has a rap sheet. He’s got middle child syndrome and you can usually find him with his friends, the other Turbo rangers, or with Bulk, or egging grandmas house with Devon. He’s giving Eugene a bald spot is what he’s doing. Spike does his best, but they really don’t see eye to eye. Squire likes his big brother, there’s just a bit of frustration with him.
Devon Skullovitch, aged eleven. Unlike Squire he’s not blond and looks more like Eugene and Spike. Bulk calls him the baby buddy, and it annoys him so so much. Loves video games and fixing cars. Can eat his weight in lasagna. Not associated with any color. Knows his brother is up to something, unsure what. Often getting babysit by half brother. Is known to egg his grandmothers house. A lot. It’s a problem.
Farkas Bulkmeier;
Lois “Heavy” Bulkmeier. Aged 21. Kat got with him after being saved by Tommy and Kim, bur the relationship with Kim or Tommy never went anywhere. Tommy and Kim got back together, Kat was happy being single for the most part. Lois though was an accident baby; however Kat and Bulk make it work and do like the relationship and their kid. Heavy for his part is a lot like Bulk. Rabblerousing loudmouth with a heart of gold. Heavy got his GED and currently is working on going through community college so he can buy Ernie’s old place and take it over. It was a refuge for him as a kid and he wants to keep it going for all the kids who need a refuge, from whatever’s going on. Not associated with a color. He does, however, know who the rangers are, and helps where he can. Kat’s an Olympic diver, and Bulk is the owner of a very popular chain restaurant. Bulk’s Eats.
Kimberly Hart;
Echo Hart-Hillard. Aged 20. They were not raised by Their moms, at first. Dark Spectre used magic to make a child from the dna of the two most fearsome pink rangers he could think of, and then had said child trained. Echo first met Tommy, fresh out of divorce with his second wife Kim, and almost they killed him. He managed to talk them down and it was Zack and Billy showing up in back up who realized who Echo even was. Kim and Kat were good friends, but it was the then twelve year old assassin who inadvertently got them together. Echo’s non-binary and very very good at murder. Not associated with any color. This is probably a good thing. Specter was intending them for psycho silver, but Echo’s glad they’re not a ranger, at least for now. They got to be ring bearer at their moms wedding. Specter is still pissed he’s lost control of the murder child, and moms and teenager are currently hiding out under assumed names. They move around a lot just because Echo still finds it difficult to not solve all their problems via murder. And can’t shake the habit of calling the psycho rangers their aunts and uncles. It’s been rough but they’re happy with their moms.
Jason Lee Scott;
When Jason came back, Tommy and the rest were Zeo at that point. When he began really interacting with them again he noted to his surprise Kim had left for a scholarship after graduating a year early, and Kat Hillard was the current pink. Jason was enamored, but respected she was with Tommy.
While they defeated the Machine Empire, Tommy broke up with Kat on account of the trauma. Jason accepts he was her rebound, but they’ve been together since and he’s content, and so is Kat. They have one daughter.
Dena Louisa Scott, aged 27. Dena Louisa is a cartoonist for the local newspaper, and hopes to one day have her comic strips published across America. She also posts her little strips on her own website. The “bugaboo scouts” is a tongue in cheek recounting of the stories her parents told her about their time as rangers, though focusing on the more hilarious aspects of rangerdom. A group of tiny anthropormorphic bugs with attitude are tasked with saving picnic grove! With lots of shenanigans. Smart, quiet, though more in the line of Jason’s brand of quiet. She does have explosive anger, and has been going to therapy for it. Constantly bucks against authority figures, though she’s taught herself how to work through the urge to argue, especially if it’s a fair point. Loves her parents, who are supportive, and often does her best work while at the park. Not associated with a color. She is however part of the mentor flavored comedy duo. They offer advice, though it’s flavored by the past experience of her parents, which isn’t always helpful to the situation at hand. And Dena’s general advice is either “well hit it really hard” or “have you tried the power of friendship?” And are vague enough to not be overly helpful. Is quite nice to the monsters though, and the minions love her while their bosses. Do not. She’s successfully caused two galactic unionizations.
Aisha Campbell;
Tommy wasn't the one who managed to break Kat out of the mind control; it was Aisha. Aisha and Kat both left the rangers, and Aisha chose Tina as her replacement. They got a job together at the animal shelter, and they adopted several years later as chaos reigned around them. They have one daughter, Natalie, aged fourteen. They adopted Natalie at birth. The girl is wise beyond her years, and often too serious, but she's also got wells of dry humor and likes teasing her moms. not associated with a color, probably better off for it.
Grandchildren of Kat Hillard:
Ethan Oliver, grandson of Kat and Tommy, son of JJ. While he’s based on a canon unnamed character, this is not him. He started as a red ranger and when Rito kidnapped him to make him an evil ranger he became a blue ranger. His element is still fire, however. Due to what happened, Ethan lost the ability to speak. He is in a relationship with their sixth ranger, a purple named Milo Tekkititam. Milo is a troll and a double amputee. His suit acts as his legs, and while Ethan was the last person to warm up to Milo, he really warmed up to him. Ethan’s best friend is Chloe Bulkmeier, daughter of Kim and Bulk. Ethan’s 19. His mom’s from JJ’s undercover work. Half brother to his younger sibling, loves the kid fiercely though. Was able to break his mind control when his younger brother was placed in harm’s way.
(Undecided) Oliver, grandson of Kat and Tommy, son of JJ and Anara. Young, impetuous, kind of a firecracker, is going to give the immortals their first and only grey hairs. Loves his brother, loves power rangers. Hates Rito for taking his brother away. At ten years old he tried to kill Rito for his brother. Rito’s not really offended? He thinks it’s cute and complimented Kat on her grandson’s bloodthirst. Went about as well as you’d expect.
If I think of more I’ll add more :) Kat’s a poor lamb and needs more fleshed out children to her name. As I think of them, I’ll add the other kids to their parents I’ve already done as well. Which yes means Echo’s on Kim’s now, too 😁

power rangers has been going thirty seasons strong, or at least it will have been by the time cosmic fury makes its debut in fall, where the longest running team of rangers since mighty morphin return with (almost) completely original suits, the shortest episode list to date, and facing off against one of the original big bads of the show, lord zedd
in the same year, mighty morphin power rangers returns for the once and always special, where quite a few of the rangers from that team's roster face off against a robotic doppelganger of rita repulsa
there were some interesting set photos for once and always, showing an "S.P.A." while in cosmic fury, the rangers go to space to chase after lord zedd
i think its time for a change after we're done here
we're getting very close to closing that gap in the timeline, making a full series worth of ranger teams that lead to the one at the very end of the timeline, that being SPD
...technically hyperforce is at the end of the timeline because that takes place 16 years after time force, which was in the year 3000, but i wanna be realistic and say we probably wont get yearly power rangers seasons for the next a little under one thousand years
so realistically, this is the best place to close the gap on everything
i feel like now is a good time to end live-action power rangers and start going animated
believe me, i love the show the way it is, and i love dino fury so far, i'm quite a few episodes in as i write this, but i think it's time for things to change
yes, they can technically keep going with what they have now, adapting sentai zords while making new suits for the american audience, they *could* do that
but i feel like live action is a bit too restrictive for a series like power rangers in terms of the budget that these shows usually get
im guessing cosmic fury is gonna be a cut above the rest because they have less episodes to work with and said they wanna take risks, but i feel like power rangers could really benefit from going animated, preferably 2D
that eliminates the problems of having to fly your actors everywhere, not being able to bring back characters because they couldnt make it or didnt want to go or are dead, the amount of places you can go being restricted by the sentai footage or the very fact that all of the original footage is filmed in new zealand, *and* you can hire professional voice actors to put in work for this
we absolutely could've gotten an accurate adaptation of shattered grid, but only if it was animated because there is no goddamn way they'd be getting back that many actors to reprise their roles, or put that much money into the amount of battles or set design, unless they gave the show a huge budget like game of thrones or something
i feel like, with power rangers seemingly closing the gap on its timeline, bringing back original cast members and the like, it's time to put an end to the story that quite a few of us have been following for almost thirty years
give us an animated adaptation of the comics, or an anthology animated series that has different arcs about different ranger teams, or a completely new ranger team, with animation, there's nothing you *can't* have your characters do or nowhere you can't have your characters go
granted if they're not given a good budget it could look similar to one's ass, like modern marvel cartoons, but if we're lucky, we could get something like rise of the tmnt or invincible in terms of animation quality
yes, i know, making it animated would take away what makes power rangers such a stand out show in the midst of TV nowadays, but i feel like tradition shouldn't be kept simply because of uniqueness or because it's been that way for so long

RIP JDF
I... I think I'm just in shock right now.
I'm not sure how many of my followers will care about this but gather around and let me tell you a tale.
The tale of Era's first fandom.
Tumblr media
When I was around, maybe nine years old, I was your standard American child who woke up on Saturday mornings and rushed to the television for cartoons. Unlike some kids, I lived off of free cable TV in the form of Jetix and PBS.
I had a list of shows I really enjoyed. Sonic X was my original introduction to the Sonic fandom. Jane and the Dragon got me started on my fantasy kick. And then there was Power Rangers.
Specifically, Power Rangers SPD and Power Rangers Mystic Force.
Tumblr media
(Listen, I know that GIF is stupid and it is just as stupid in the show but I love it and will not apologize for it--)
Now, I'm not here to claim that Power Rangers is the most amazing show in the world or even that it is particularly good. But, Power Rangers is the first fandom that I found, lost, then found again and it basically activated my fangirl gene, eventually leading me to where I am today.
It was also my first "fanfiction" of a sort. I never wrote it down, but I would act it out in my room. I pretended to be a purple ranger and kicked butt with all the other rangers, had friends, and even a very convoluted plot. But, I was nine to ten years old at the time so I think it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Let's jump ahead a few years with the invention of Netflix streaming and the glorious years when every single Power Rangers show and season was available on it. Call me childish, but even as a teenager and even now, I enjoy the Power Rangers franchise.
I will admit that it is mostly nostalgic, not necessarily good storytelling. But I still enjoyed it and like to think that I am quite an expert on the franchise. I've watched pretty much every season (not Overdrive and only a little bit of Turbo because absolutely NOT).
On my reintroduction to the franchise, I ended up randomly picking to watch Dino Thunder. There, was my first official introduction to Tommy Oliver. As to who this character was? I had no idea. But, finding out lead me down the Power Rangers rabbit hole faster than you could blink and he quickly grew to my favorite character to ever come out of the show.
Tumblr media
Tommy Oliver is a character played by Jason David Frank and was the original Green and White ranger all the way back in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He went on to be the Red Ranger for Zeo and the first Red Ranger for Turbo, before turning the title over to the next generation. Jason David Frank returned again as Tommy Oliver for a Red Ranger reunion episode in Wild Force, and then in Dino Thunder as the "mentor/Zordon" character and as the Black Ranger. He returned multiple times since for reunion and milestone episodes, was a constant presence at comic cons, helped develop, and even voiced/acted for his counterpart character in the Power Rangers Boom! comics (Lord Drakkon, aka Evil Tommy), and even got a spin-off comic that I own ("Soul of the Dragon").
Jason David Frank was basically the heart and soul of a very chaotic fandom that many actors, staff, crew, writers, and even fans like to duck and hide away from. But, I respected him so much for taking what he was given in life and running with it. You could see it in every appearance, just how much fun he had talking to fans and being involved with the franchise. He was always just... there.
This is why I think I'm in complete shock to have learned today that Jason David Frank recently passed away at age 49.
I just want to express my gratitude and joy for Jason David Frank as basically being... well, my guide into this franchise.
It's not great. It's not going to win any awards. And it certainly is not a show I recommend to anyone over the age of eleven. But it was my introduction to fandoms and through my experiences, with Power Rangers, I went on to look up and learn about Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Wars, Avengers, Legend of Zelda, I could go on and on.
So... thank you, JDF. Thanks for the morphing times, the Zord fights, the romances, the teams, and the memories.
Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger.
RIP Jason David Frank, May the Power Protect You Forever and Always

Dino Fury Mid Season 1 review
Tumblr media
So here's what I think so far of the season
Giving it an 8+/10. It's just amazing but I need to see the rest to get a full rating but I'm happy to get my inner child out again^^
-overall I'm really enjoying the season and all the dynamic the characters have. Even the antagonists have this sort of atmosphere I like.
-the rangers each have their strong points and I love the individuals stories, Amelia's whole deal with ghosts and figuring out what's up with her parents has me pretty interested.
-I think my favorite ranger so far is hard to choose but it's either Javi or Ollie. The other rangers are great as well but these two really grew on me the most, I know some people don't like Ollie but personally he's kinds reminds me of myself being ambitious and stuff. Javi is just adorable and if anything happens to him I'll burn the city down(seriously where's this guy's boyfriend??)
-Antagonist wise I really love Void Knight's dynamic( I got spoiled on a small detail and stuff before I watched the season._.) But after ep 10 he just kept me in the loop. Mucus also brings out this joyful sense that Poisandra gave me, personally i hope she gets a weapon like a mushroom lance or maybe she's like morgana from spd with a whole evil and serious form.
-the zord designs really popped off this season I love all of them and its just...whoever made them needs a raise cause my god they look so fucking cool.
-the dino key mechanic is one of my favorite power systems in the franchise, I have a headcanon on maybe the rangers have different aspects they can use with them(like if the blazing battle armor makes lava for Ollie but for Izzy she gets sharp cuts through any material.)
-Jane and J-Borg are alright, they aren't too over the op with the whole Skull and Bulk dynamic that beast morphers had so yeah.
-Zayto's journey to finding his people really has me hooked as well but i have a bad feeling that him sending out messages will bring something dark and malicious to earth...good luck to him. Also when is Aiyon getting here?
So overall this season is just so good, I can't wait to finish it up. I'm going to find a guy for Javi just you wait keytar man

For efficiency sake I will combine my two most strong interests that I have had since I was a wee tot. Power Rangers/Super Sentai of Oz.
The Scarecrow is the Blue Ranger
The Lion is the Yellow Ranger
The Tin Man is the Silver Ranger
Dorothy is... the Gingham Ranger because why not but then when it gets adapted to Power Rangers they use video editing techniques to make her the Ruby Red Ranger because again, why not.
Toto becomes like the dog from SPD/Dekaranger
Hmmm
Oh their mechas/zords are the things that they want (home/brain/heart/and somehow a physical manifestation of courage)
The morphers/henshin devices are shoes. They have to click their heels 3 times to transform. Maybe they do a little boogie like Kyoryuger because that seems fun
Hm. The Good Witch of the South and of the North are their mentors.
Halfway through the show the Big Green Head becomes part of the mentor team.
The monsters of the week could include the apple trees. The little monsters that run about in crowds I think would be flying monkeys and poppies.
The Wicked Witch of the West is the big bad obviously.
I can't think of anything else to add so I'll be done with this now

An Essay: The Appeal of Tommy Oliver
First, obligatory Tommy Oliver gif.
Tumblr media
I've been thinking about this for a while, seeing people ask as to why Tommy Oliver, one of the faces of the Power Rangers franchise, was so beloved even to this day.
I have to admit that when I dove headfirst into this franchise, I was not a Tommy Oliver fan at first. No, that first belonged to both Sky Tate from Power Rangers: SPD and Andros from Power Rangers In Space. But I slowly got attached to this ranger in multiple colors. It does beg the question of why.
Let me start off with a disclaimer stating that I'm not an expert in any way, shape or form. These are just my thoughts here on display.
The one thing that I think appeals Tommy Oliver to me personally is, beyond the cool powers and suit, the subtle character development.
Now, when I speak character development, I understand that it's not in the way that most would think. For the most part, Tommy's whole personality stays the same save for Power Rangers: Dino Thunder. It seems that the only thing that changes is the suit that he wears.
However, throughout the seasons that he's been in, there is actually a decent amount of subtle character development in his arc from start, to middle, to finish (sort of).
When he starts, he's the new kid who gets mind-controlled into being a loyal and effective servant of Rita Repulsa, the main enemy for both Season 1 and half of Season 2. He's freed and becomes a member for the team.
But this gets tempered with losing his powers, gaining powers, and then losing his powers of the Green Ranger permanently.
I want to focus on this for a moment because Tommy Oliver at this point in time is trying to find his footing on the team. He's the new, fresh ranger who really doesn't know his way around. Sure, it's not present as much in the 90s series, but it's more pronounced in the Boom! comics. And from what we see, Tommy has a hard time.
Flash-forward to the White Ranger arc. Now, everything is propelling forward for Tommy! He's the new leader with these new super-duper powers!
Already, this signifies a big contrast to his beginning. Rather than be the evil Green Ranger, he's now become a Ranger
Well, no. Not really. Because he not only has to deal with the loss of the Command Center along with everyone else in the beginning of Season 3, but also with dealing with Kimberly's loss of powers with the addition threat on her life, which presents subtle tension and a subtle stress on Tommy. It's not present as much as I would like but let's save that for another day.
Add in the Power Rangers Zeo where he goes from getting broken up with Kimberly to being brainwashed again by the Machine Empire. At this, it's also implied that it has permanent side effects as seen in one later episode.
Power Rangers Turbo, well, there was the Pit of Despair. And Power Rangers: Dino Thunder has a million essays on the effect the ranger life has on Tommy's psyche.
All of this happens and I'm surprised that Tommy is as well-adjusted as he is. But it also shows the whole completion of his arc, from bad guy to good guy to leader to eventually a mentor to a team.
Also, I don't think that most of his popularity is his fault. The Super Sentai version of him (Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, in case you were wondering) was also very popular. And the fact that he lasted long enough as he did (five seasons in total) gave his arc a sense of the completion.
And the fact that he goes through a lot and still has a sense of the responsibility without shying away from what he's done.
That.
That's kind of why his fans like him.
Do you agree? Comment or reblog as to why you like him, Tommy Oliver fans! Sorry it got so long!

Um, I was wondering your opinion on a concept.
So usually, when people 5hink of Power Ranger s, they think of the line "Once a ranger, always a ranger". And it's like, meant to be a really heroics thing understandably: these people will never stop defending freedom and love and peace and stuff.
When a ranger stops being a ranger (like as an individual, not necessarily losing their powers), it seems like it's often because they died or something similar, or that it's seen as an unheroic and low-key cowardly thing to do (like temporarily with the Overdrive folks before they decided to return. Again, not referring to the powers, but to the idea of being a hero).
The only exception I can think of from the top of my head is Jack from SPD, who decided to step down to focus on improving the world in his own way. And since then, I don't think he's become a ranger? But I could be wrong. (If there are more examples, please let me know!)
What are your thoughts on this mantra? Personally, I think it would be nice if there were a few more examples of people who stepped down permanently from being a ranger, in a way that's not framed by the story as cowardly. After all, I think, if Power Rangers were real, there would be many valid reasons for a ranger to decide to step down. Plus, it would be an interesting story to tell. What do you think?
(also sorry for the really long ask)
I think like a lot of things, "Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger" is something used positively and negatively by both the franchise and the fandom. As you say, it's obviously supposed to mean over anything else that the Rangers are still heroes even when they hang up the helmets. On a more meta note, it's an easy excuse for the show bringing back previous rangers for crossover episodes despite their seasons typically ending with losing their powers for good.
Jack is probably the most famous example of someone giving up their powers willingly because that wasn't what they wanted to do with their life (which is why Jason Bischoff's scrapped idea of Jack becoming a ranger again for an SPD Elite Guard team or whatever leaves a bad taste in my mouth.) but another (and i think the only other) example would be Albert, the first Dino Charge Purple Ranger. While like, yeah, it was obvious from the beginning that he wouldn't stay a ranger because the Energem was meant for Kendall, the episode made it clear that while Albert was a good person and heroic in his own right, he wasn't capable of handling all of the responsibilities that came with Rangerhood, and that was fine. That was realistic. I wish the franchise discussed this idea more with other characters, that not everyone is capable of being a Ranger because being a Ranger requires more out of someone than just being a good person, but I can understand with the show at least they don't want to discourage the kids.
And that's where the concept of Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger becomes used negatively, imo; when the franchise and/or the fandom take it to mean not "you can still do good, even if you don't have superpowers" but instead "my favorite character should ALWAYS have superpowers." It's partly why I've come to despise the concept of the Omega Rangers so much. It enforces the belief that Jason, Zack, and Trini need to keep being Rangers in order to really help others; that attending a Peace Conference isn't a valid way to help people because it's not flashy and glamorous. This panel from PINK sums it up very well:
Tumblr media
and Soul of the Dragon's entire plot hinges on deconstructing the idea that being a Ranger is the only way to live a life of goodness.  I have my grumbles over that book but it’s VERY clear in what it’s saying
So yeah! Overall, i think the stance is well-intentioned, but it's easy to skew it in a way that benefits shallow fanservice over realism and character development

-human version of ‘you wanna see some real speed’
-talks and talks and talks about her cars for hours on end
-main caregiver is Rose but sometimes Summer if they are in the same universe
-so much rough housing
-has knocked multiple of Mack’s circuit boards loose as a result
-Will is the only one that can really old his own against her

-his team will just find him curled up under a pile of blankets in the loft at random times
-Greyson is not a regressor
-super stimy
-will just jump on Jarrod if he is sitting in the loft
-“Hey Case, what’s up little one?” Shaking hands and humming “oh? Ok let’s go bug Theo for some pizza.”
-really likes being carried
-though everyone knows to show him their hands before touching
-he needs a little warning
Rpm
Scott
-originally didn’t know what was happening and was very scared and confused
-quickly turned into anger
-“I’m in the Air Force! I’m the red ranger! I’m not a baby!”
-is actually a baby lol
-Ziggy loves taking care of little Scott
-uses it as his own form of therapy ((yes being a CG can be as much a coping method as regression))
-age range is between 2-6
-when on the older end just breaks everything he touches
-it drives dr K crazy
-literally breaks the side mirror off Dillions car “not my fault Dillion!”
-best play mate is Gem, Gemma is fun too but Gem can pick him up so he’s the favourite twin
-younger age range just likes being put in a car and taken for a drive
-Flynn has been banned from driving the baby

Currently working on: My own personal comic not associated with DB or even any of my blogs. But as for DB stuff? A few submissions, a few surprises for ppl who didnt ask me for anything, NSFW Krillin fics, & NSFW Krillin comics.
Anyone can join in if you'd like. I'm not good at picking ppl to tag without tagging too many ppl lol. 😅

Time to Hate-Watch Turner and Hooch, Episode 5
Because I am bored. And I hate myself. Of you aren't ok with me hate-watching and commenting, well then this is not the post you are looking for. Please move along.
Ah, yes, reminder of the love triangle they put in a kids copaganda show for the parents. Again. Because reminder: they did that last week.
Ew, bad shaky camera work.
Oh god she was listening to that music as a personal stake out sound track by choice? Like, why?
"You're all hopped up on juice boxes and I don't like it." I did like that line.
Laura is 5 years old.
I do like the theme song.
You know what also is weird about this supposed kids show? The episodes are nearly 50 minutes long. No kid is going to pay attention to that long of an episode.
So much natural lighting and making Hooch very yellow in some scenes and not others.
I'm probably too tired to watch this tonight.
Honestly that poor girl. Such a big crush on a very oblivious dipshit.
Branden is a fucking gift to this show. Again, I am just so glad he kept acting after Power Rangers SPD. Not many former PRs stay in the business, let alone get steady work. I'm really proud of him!
Rain. This show must be filmed in Vancouver. Actually, I vaguely remember hearing it was shot there. ... (Googles)... Haha
Tumblr media
I mean, air cold enough mid-day to see their breath + rain had to = Vancouver. I mean I guess Portland too. But either way, California my ass.
Dreary natural lighting. Classic Vancouver. I can't believe anyone could actually think this would look like California.
Having Laura recognize a lot of people so that they could give her information to make her getting the information super easy is certainly a choice... by writers who don't want to work to hard. Then again, I think this is supposed to be a a family friendly show...kind of. Line, this isn't a straight up specific demographic this is targeted towards. They just have done a few things I absolutely would not put in a kids show this day and age. Like, it honestly so bizarre to watch.
I'm not fond of stories like this. Guy is getting married, all aspects of the case have a relation to weddings. It's just too much happenstance in this episode. And I'm tired, I should have very little ability to notice most of the is shit tonight.
Oh god, this would be so painful if I wasn't so sleepy. Like, what the fuck are you doing, Laura. Well, at least this is showing Lyndsy's versatility and expressiveness. My god this is such a different character then Alex on Nikita.
Tired sidenote, my watermelon is very good.
Laura gets up to leave after getting this woman to hang out with her. The woman has to remind her that she doesn't know where she lives. I liked that.
"Thank you for your never-ending aquatic references." Ok, this show does have some good lines.
(This is honestly like kind of watching Lucifer. I hat the show, but occasionally there are so lines that I really like. Though I did stop watching Lucifer because I just hated it too much. I was only watching it out of boredom.)
I am really glad that they have a Native guest star. It's nice to see more Native rep on shows the past couple years.
Messaging: Kids, you gotta stand up for other kids being bullied because you are just as bad as the bullies if you just stand there. I'm really ok with this messaging. Good job, so that I mostly don't like.
I'm sorry, I'm so tired.
"His name was Jean-Luc-" Me: stares at camera in 'Robert Duncan McNeill directed this episode and is the primary Executive Producer on this show.'
For those of you who don't know, RDM was Tom Paris in Star Trek Voyager and a character who's name I can't remember that he also played on Star Trek TNG.
Fun fact, Tom Paris was initially going to be the same character he played on TNG, but something about rights blah blah blah, made that a no-go.
Sorry, back to me hate-watching while tired.
Oh god there are 21 minutes left.
Why is Laura holding a guinea pig? And why does she have a karaoke machine?
Why is Branden's character having a romantic time with his fiance while on a case? Ugh, the unprofessionalism. Like, aren't they only a two hour drive from home? Why is this happening? Do they think of distance like the British? Or people who live in Saint Louis? (Seriously, in Saint Louis some people think 20 minutes is a long drive. Granted, ten minutes is a long drive for me, but the position I have to sit in to drive really aggravates my Interstitial Cystitis (meaning I have to pee so, so bad the whole time I am in the car)).
I want to take this moment to apologize. I am very sorry about the tangents and the personal health and whatnot. But at this point I'm too tired to go bad and delete things or care about what else I'm going to write, so I'm just going to keep going without my filter on. Of you make it through this whole thing with me, bless you you sweet, sweet, probably bored soul.
🎶Ooo Heaven is a place on earth 🎶
Oh god, so much tomato stuff. All over the bathroom. The very white bathroom. Good luck with that...Scott? Is that our main characters name? Scott? I don't care to look it up at th- yeah it's Scott, Laura just said it.
Uh, shouldn't that have been made of metal? Either way, shitty craftsmanship if the dog could break it that easily.
That can't be how you train a bomb sniffing dog.
No way someone who's been a police officer for a few years wouldn't know that there are drugs on literally every bill.
Again, family show why?
Neither of them thought there would be a back door?
This while thing is insane. Not in anyway that I find entertaining. But I'd probably be more pissed if I it was more conscious. You should probably be reading all of my angry sounding things as just very tired and a bit sedate because of the tiredness.
I'm sorry Branden's character was a soldier in combat and he's never been shot? Unless I'm misremembering. But seriously, he doesn't know what getting shot in the vest fells like.
Oh look, the girlfriend fires at vehicles driving towards her too. In the same episode..I hate when things are related like that. Not upper level writing.
Why was the Secret Service also looking for those people? What? That can't possibly be their preview.
(Before I finished the episode, I discovered that for the second time this week, I did not get to the litter box fast enough (as in since this morning) to prevent my cat from moving the liner enough to pee between it and the box. So, at 11pm I had to go clean that out.)
Like this guy wouldn't know that he was copping to extortion by saying that.
God, why are they making this case the dad was working on (stupid arching plot in a family tv show why? For the adults who can tell this show is bad already?) even more complicated? Like, is this going to get Heroes level stupidly complex? Because that shit killed that show. Ok, so it probably won't be that bad...just the kids show equivalent of that bad.
Oh good for you, girl who's name I never learned! Quit the job with the evil boss! Please let her be OH NATALIE! Once again, thank you Laura for saying the name of the character whose name I wasn't sure of. What was I saying... Of yeah, I hope Natalie comes back and wasn't just on one episode. More native characters on TV please!
Oh wait, am I just realizing the girls in the live triangle were both on Glee, or did I remember that in a previous post? I know they were both on Glee from the moment I saw them in this show, but, like, I somehow didn't realize it was a very mini Glee reunion when they were in the same scene?
Wait, where did Scott wash Hooch if it wasn't in his own place the first time? Where was that bathroom? Wait, unless this isn't the bathroom in him home? I was definitely too tired to watch this. That might be saving me on the anger level, but it's certainly making it a bit difficult to keep track of some stuff.
Oh bad edit/consistency moment with the foam on Scott's face. Always hating to me.
Episode over.
Closing Thoughts: This show is still driving me insane with it's not on point demographic aiming and just silliness that isn't really good-silly, more like bad-silly. Also, I'm tired.

Okay, I saw the blurb reference for ask, and now I GOTTA, just because: Matt Cook + All of his OC babies~ (we all know WHY)
lol yes we know why. I was debating whether or not I cover Matt dear, so thanks for deciding for me XD
canon children:
none that we know of
OC Children:
Kimberly Hart:
Kelson Hart. Aged 21. Older Twin brother to Kira Hart. Kim’s a single parent, raised her kids mostly on the run after Matthew died when they were four, but she and Matt never got married. More of a friends with benefits thing, off and on until she got pregnant with twins. Kelson has nothing to do with his family. Intergalactic diplomat at 21. Does not live on earth, but shows up every Christmas. He is not associated with any color. He blames power rangers for a lot of his family and planet problems actually. He loves his mom and sister and family, but he can’t bypass their glaringly massive differences in opinions.
Kira, aged 21, younger twin sister to Kelson, green ranger on SPD B Team. She’s often her brothers body guard when he’s on earth for official business, but they bicker constantly when they actually speak to each other outside of work. He blames the power rangers for everything, she thinks he’s an idiot. The reason Kim was on the run in the first place was an unreformed Zedd heard about the kids and as Matt used to work for him, decided those kids were his, actually. As payment. Matt died killing Zedd. That wasn’t power rangers fault, that was Zedd’s fault.
Billy Cranston;
When Billy loses his ranger status and goes to work for Grace, Matt is also there as the green ranger. Billy keeps his distance for a while; the guy is more or less a massive dick. Especially over something that wasn’t Billy’s fault. Billy’s also not taking pot shots at his friends or Zordon over it with Matt. They start dating after the War, and Matt’s final betrayal. More because he finally wore Billy down, but Billy had a good time hanging out with him again. And then both of them had the rude realization at the same time of “I am attracted to this man-fuck he noticed-oh he’s into it” which snowballed. They adopted one kid, and had another via help from alien technology mixed with a little magic. Nora, aged 26, is a professional hockey player. Matt decided he was going to support her sport even if it wasn’t his sport. Billy quickly developed a love of hockey at one of her events when she was little. Mostly because this game is ridiculous. Though he does worry about her on the ice. A lot. They adopted her when she was five, and she’s loud and enthusiastic and very rarely is she ever sad or genuinely upset. Her opinion on things is mostly “be friendly at it or challenge it to a fight” and generally speaking the options work enough she’s never needed to figure out other plans of action. She met her wife during a game. She’s from an opposing team. Nora gave her a concussion; she knocked Nora’s front teeth out. This was par for the course and they bonded in hospital. Billy’s still trying to figure out HOW. Matt thinks it’s hilarious. Is the green dragon ranger. She is legitimately feared by most and can solve most problems without suiting up. The threat is enough.
Their other child is Abner. He’s socially transitioning, he’s 18. He wants to be a writer. He and his sister have a very loving if slightly antagonistic relationship. When Abner came out to her, Nora’s response was “well now you don’t need to steal my clothes. Give them back” which lead to an argument but not the one Abner was expecting. They negotiated the clothing situation. Abner’s not giving back a pair of boots; they look way too good on him. Matt and Billy both support him. Matt sometimes slips up with name, however he’s quick to correct himself. Billy helped Abner choose his name, and was the first person he came out to. Abner is a little self conscious about his looks, and about his public image. More in regards to if he’s going to make his family look bad. Like Matt he tends to brood and focus on negative details way too much. Like Billy he tends to strive for perfection and his vocabulary makes it hard for people to understand him.
Eugene Skullovitch;
Matt dives head first into the villain persona, and is happily doing so. He's thriving. Until he's forced into an ultimatum; save Bulk and Skull from certain death by the hands of Goldar, or vanquish the Solar Rangers. Against his better judgment, he saves Bulk and Skull. Skull, unfortunately for timing wise, had said he'd kiss whoever saved their lives minutes before Matt saved them. He's a man of his word, but he also punched him in the mouth immediately after. Matt's confused as hell. So instead of chasing after Kim, begins chasing after Skull because what was THAT. This leads to a very weird redemption arc because Matt has realized 2 things; he likes being kissed by Skull and he does not want Skull mad at him anymore. Cut to fifteen years later; they've got a kid of their own and no actual idea how they got there really. But, they're happy, don't hate each other's guts, their kid's thriving, it's all good. The entire empire of evil absolutely hates them though and Matt somehow managed to get himself on the shit list of Thor. As long as he doesn't go out while it's thunderstorming he should be fine.
Their son is ten, his name is Jude Cook. Jude is one of the weirdly luckiest kids alive. He's survived an insane amount of attempts on his life, falls, kidnappings, and things he should otherwise not survive. His parents have stopped asking how. Loki helped give them a son, which is partly why Thor's pissed, so they've at this point accepted demigod baby is just gonna do what a demigod baby do. It's probably for the best. Spike's his older brother, and is training with Loki to be some sort of spirit of shapeshifting mischief. They both love causing mild trouble. Like Skull, Jude's got a fear of flying which makes things a little interesting. Skull's got his sons and his partner on a very very strict promise; if the shenanigans could cause an enemy of something power, walk away. Walk far away. Neptune exists. We don't want to get on the bad side of Neptune.
in a tangential version, Billy coparents with the two, and studies demigod ten year old, and deals with the Norse gods being in his business. At the very least nobody's been sucked into Ares' prison jar, so that's good.
*Bonus Poly of Billy Cranston, Matt Cook, and Eugene Skullovitch has all above children mentioned. They live in a large house, Eugene's a famous rockstar and restaurant chain owner, and they actually use every room in said house. In this version they met via Matt asking the only person he knew with experience in bdsm for some help with his newly realized kinks; Skull's payment was pizza nights and then Billy got dragged in because he was certain Matt was abusing Skull, but realized it was fine, actually. And fun.
Tommy Oliver;
Tommy and Matt did not really like each other at the beginning. Matt blames Tommy for so so much, but can't do anything about it, and Tommy's missing Dragon Green something terrible and dealing with massive amounts of PTSD for related but different reasons than Matt. Rita trapped them together in a gladitorial area of the Dark Dimension, and Tommy and Matt managed to talk to each other and get into an understanding. When they started dating, it was actually Grace who saw an opportunity, not Rita. But it’d be three more years before she could enact the plan. She didn’t tell Terona, and she was intending to eventually get every coin as well, for a full set.
Verdun Cook is 24, he’s the green dragon ranger, and he’s never met his dads. He’s a top agent for protection of earth. He thinks his parents gave him up to Grace. They think he died in infancy, an unfortunate complication in how he was made. They also think the dragon dagger was destroyed as well, around the same time. When parents and son finally meet, Tommy and Matt are furious. Billy’s furious. Terona's furious. He got Verdun to Tommy and Matt when he found out, even. Everyone’s furious. Matt and Tommy have Verdun live with them to acclimate to civilian life, and get used to being a person. His entire life has been as a weapon; he’s trying to very rapidly learn how to be human. It’s not like he was a success in the program either; the plan was a whole team of legacy rangers in their parents Colors, and he was the only one they could get.
Currently the only people allowed to mess with Tommy and Matt’s DNA is Billy and the Aquitarans and, hilariously, Zedd. He only made a clone. He was very transparent about what he was intending for the clone. Tommy knows where the clone is. He DIDN’T know where his son was, that he was alive, what Grace was intending or what he was doing. He and Matt are in agreement; If they had to chose they’d choose Zedd with their DNA.
When they thought their biological son had died; they adopted. Ricky is fifteen, not associated with a color, and is trying to get used to this with along with their dads. Ricky really is trying to be nice as well, but his overenthusiasm and attempts at bonding are often coming off too strong and borderline antagonistic. He doesn't mean to be. But the bright side is Ricky’s got someone to hang out with. And better yet, Verdun knows nothing about video games, pop culture, or really anything. So. Who wants to watch Star Wars? Ricky's got mixed feelings about his brother, but they're ranging from sad to excited, there's nothing jealousy related. Their dads are awesome, and he's sad Verdun never got to grow up with their dads. And he's excited to be able to have fun with his brother. Ricky is very excitable, and works on the school newspaper. He does volleyball, and has goals to be valedictorian when he graduates. Friendly, upbeat, can sometimes take things too far, but he tries to make those moments right.
They’re all making up for lost time with Verdun. It’s long overdue. At least both kids get along.
Trini Kwan;
Trini smacked sense into him after the upteenth pity party. She also forced him to come along for a mission in space with the Solar Rangers. He wanted to be let in on the whole thing? Fine! They could do that! Welcome to space Matt, everyone you meet is going to die or kill you! Have fun!
After, he put the dagger up, and he and Trini actually talked about what happened on the moon. She also retired from being a ranger, and they focused on taking a page from Bulk and Skull; being helpful as civilians. Matt asked Trini to marry him, and Trini said no. They made a game of it for a few years before she finally did say yes, when they were both financially stable.
They have Minh, and do foster parenting. Currently fostering JJ Oliver, due to unforeseen events leading to both Tommy and Kat unable to care for their kid for the time being. It’s hard being s foster family, but it’s nice being able to see the kids go back to their parents or move on to hopefully better situations. Matt’s at peace, and Trini is too. Trini is a plane mechanic; Matt is a fireman.
Zack Taylor;
During everything Zack and Matt were friends with benefits, though Matt tended to use Zack as an emotional scapegoat as well. Zack finally had enough after a bit, and told Matt either he got his head out of his ass or they weren’t continuing. He was serious, too, and Matt got left in the lurch for a little while before actually looking at himself long and hard and deciding whether or not his grudge was worth losing Zack again. It wasn’t. His parents loved Zack, Kira loved Zack, and most importantly he loved Zack. He came out to his parents and family, and then put in the effort to get over himself to get Zack back. One daughter by surrogate parent, and Matt owes Kim big time. She’s made it clear though. This was for Zack. He gets this, and accepts he and Kim are probably never even going to be friends. His and Zack’s daughter is Layla Cook-Taylor. Layla is sixteen, tiny firecracker of positivity. She has her low moments, but she’s never down for long. She likes swimming and playing guitar. She dances with Zack in dance classes and Matt adores her so so much. She’s frank and earnest and tries her best. She doesn’t give up easily if ever. White ranger. Saba loves her, too. Yes Matt has gotten in arguments with the uppity dagger why do you ask?
Jason Lee Scott;
Getting with Jason felt a little like leaning how to breathe again. Jason came home and Matt quickly got into sparring with him every weekend, like old times. It devolved into a lot of pent up rage related sex. And then all of that was gone…and there were two angry hurt teenagers who didn’t know how to be healthy about love or sex. Cut to fifteen years later, Jason’s a mechanic, Matt’s an accountant. And nothings changed. In between then and now, Jason had a kid. He doesn’t remember who the mother was, and anyway Diego Scott was left on his porch basically. He’s four. Matt likes the way Diego likes piggy backs. And dinosaurs and zombies. Matt likes how whole he feels with Jason and Diego. It’s pretty late in life, but he’s willing to make a go of this, if Jason is willing. And so far, he is. Diego keeps the two on their toes, being ready to get into the thick of everything and anything. But he's four, that's typical, and he's Jason's. And Matt thinks the kid's the best.
Sharkie;
Surprisingly the two manage to click and gel together really well. Three kids, two boys and a girl. Lexie Cook aged 24, Gavin Cook aged 19, and Quincy Cook, aged 17. Sharkie and Matt bonded over being left behind by their friends, though Sharkie doesn’t have any ill will to Bulk or Skull. Stuff happens. The first time he morphed he did it to impress Sharkie and she laughed in his face. He then spent the rest of his life trying to impress her, and stumbled into becoming a better person in the process.
Lexie Cook works as a radio host for a popular music station. She has a popular segment where she runs down the monster of that week and ranks it’s strengths and weaknesses and how to avoid it while putting out a prediction for the next week’s. She does this in between her music playlist, and she’s been right in her predictions a few times. Starts and ends her show saying hi or goodbye to her parents. She has a huge sweet tooth and will do anything for sweets. Lately her brother Gavin's been Off, so she's been adding him in the hi and goodbye, and a 'hang in there bud' as well. not associated with a color
Quincy “Flea” Cook is one of the punks at school, and one of the comedy duo. He's antagonistic to the 'goody twerps' Matt just knows is the power rangers, and neither he nor Sharkie really know if they should step in or just let this play out. Currently letting it play out. Quincy’s grown a lot since the current team's shown up, and he's gotten braver, less self serving, and a lot more noble. Matt's just made sure he's well aware he needs to get out of a situation if buildings are falling. No exceptions. He can grab the person closest to him but he is staying out of the area. Sharkie is making sure he also knows when to stop antagonizing, and know who and what all monsters are. Quincy is in love with art but he's got a Reputation. He's gotten a reputation for being spraypainting sides of buildings. His murals are always well done, but with a sense of humor, and often calling out the villains. Something's up with his older brother though, so he's been trying to figure out what. not associated with a color
Gavin Cook's currently working for the villains. Mind controlled, he's not really even interested in power rangers, normally. Evil ranger sixth ranger, he's been living with a roommate since he was eighteen in an apartment near his parents house and sister's apartment (the reasoning being this is his first try at being properly independent, and if he needs help they're near him to assist if need be). They don't spend enough time with him to know anything other than he's not acting right. Quincy's actively trying to figure out what's wrong though, and Gavin's dreading the day he's going to be told to attack his own family members. He's the villainous Maximum Ranger, and he's waiting for the good rangers to free him and his roommate so he can get back to not caring about power rangers. and hug his family. and go get therapy because yea...he needs to Unpack This. When not a mindcontrolled villain, Gavin's pretty chill. He lets Quincy hang out to get away from their parents, and usually is playing music while watching his brother. He really doesn't give a damn about power rangers, could care less. Matt was one, and that's fine, he's not anymore and Gavin doesn't care about the legacy. He works at the local coffeeshop, which is where the good rangers love hanging out. He hates spying on them, he used to love the atmosphere, and he knows his dad and his job is why he's currently here. All his parents know is he went missing for a week and came back, well, off. They're there when he asks for help, the kicker being, right now Gavin literally cannot.
(maximum is a shade of green)
Marleau Eskin;
He got with her in high school to get back at his former friends and ex girlfriend. It was a joke, turns out he’s the joke. But he and Marcel don’t talk to Marleau anymore. Matt’s a sports reporter, and Marcel’s a professional esport gamer in his late 20’s. Matt sees his kid on the weekends for weekly lunches and check ins. Had to take a second when Marcel said he’d started dating Minh Kwan. Had to decide if the anger was worth it. It wasn’t. He’s not talking to the group still, but Marcel’s got his blessing, and he's fine with Marcel seeing Minh. That has to count for something. Matt was able to prove without a shadow of a doubt that Marleau was a negligent parent, and had left their kid in frankly dangerous situations when he was young. Marcel broke his arm left alone at a park, and Matt was never more happy or enraged. But, it lead to Marcel being genuinely happy as the son of a single parent, so Matt's happy to let him live his life. Also somewhat relieved Minh or her family heard the last name 'Cook' and is still letting this happen. Marcel is not associated with a color.
Stan Skullovitch;
They were kidnapped together and replaced with putties. They were tortured together, and formed a trauma bond. Stan had enough sense to say 'no' to a relationship with someone who 1) hated his brother and 2) was still in highschool. However they kept running into each other over the years. When they did get together, it was when Matt had his head out of his ass a little, and was in a stable job. Stan was a singer at a lounge, and the trauma attraction had settled into a healthier flavor. Everyone's got their opinions on the two getting together but it seems okay right now? Rita as Mystic Mother used magic to give them a child because as Matt pointed out in a confrontation with her; she kind of owed them big time. Ulysses "Bones" Skullovitch is twelve, and kind of a natural wanderer. It's not unusual for him to leave the house at dawn and come back around dinner time with all sorts of things in his pockets. He's not loud, but he's not shy. Prefers watching than acting, though will step up if need be. Stan finds it hard to not worry about him, but Spike and Spike's friends keep an eye on Bones while keeping their distance. He's alright, he's just the kind of person that likes being by himself playing. However he might be getting some friends, and Matt's starting to wonder if power rangers is a genetic thing. Bones will be a red ranger when old enough.
Violet Arias;
she slapped him. Then yelled at him, then apologized because his cheek was swelling and her nail had accidentally caused a cut on his eyelid. He had to wear an eye bandage for two weeks and she gave him flowers. Then he apologized for, well. everything. After that they started dating, balancing his ranger status with school and her trying to be okay with it. They've been in hiding with their kids since Zedd put a price on Matt's head. Myrtle and Tyrian are fifteen and ten, respectively. They don't know their dad was a green ranger and still is when called to be so, Matt's not going to put them in danger over this. As much as he can help, anyway.
Myrtle Arias plays the trumpet in the school marching band. She's extremely good at coded cyphers, and wants to be the president of the united states one day. She's also on the chess team. She has no opinions on the power rangers or the monsters that seem to constantly show up. She's just trying to get through school without being shoved in a locker. Hard to connect to her dad, who was a popular kid, so it's easier to talk to and connect to her mom. is not associated with a color.
Tyrian Arias learned his name's the actual name for the color royal purple (named after the snails whose shells are used for the pigments) and decided he was going to make this his entire personality. He is a ten year old sixth ranger, he is not hiding this. His only saving grace is that he is constantly telling so many tall tales his parents aren't entirely sure if he's telling the truth (and if he is there will be WORDS with whoever gave him Purple), and everyone else thinks he's just an exceptionally imaginitve kid. Matt is...hoping the extra excitable new ranger is not, in fact, his son. However, deep down he knows it's Tyrian and he's freaking out.

Ranger Rankings - Power Rangers Operation Overdrive
Premise - 4
Operation Overdrive is such a loose title that it allowed them to be one part Lightspeed Rescue and one part Thunderbirds, with a little Relic Hunters thrown in. It's a good idea, and lent itself to a lot of globetrotting - it was also relevant to pretty much every plot episode.
Character Dynamics - 3
The balance here isn't quite as bad as usual. Sure, Mack gets most of the plot - the final six or seven episodes are very much about him coming to terms with his android status, while the others get one or two spotlight episodes. Rose and Will have skills that help the team more often than not so they get a bit more screentime, while Dax is mostly comic relief. Poor Ronny was basically a blank slate though - she's competitive, and she likes Halloween. That was literally all we learn about her all season.
I did very much enjoy Spencer and Mr. Hartford though; they had a lot of input in the team dynamic, moreso than most of the other mentor characters. Spencer was, as I expected, the MVP of the season.
Sixth Ranger Arc - 3
I was tempted to give this a 2.5, since Tyzonn slots into the team so easily, but on second thought he does get a decent arc. His introductory four episodes do a good job of setting him up, and his role as a Rescuer (not the mouse) gave him some good motivation to join the team, as did his rivalry with the Fearcats. His relationship with Vella was a bit of a late addition, and felt a bit like Cruger and his wife's relationship but condensed into a shorter time period.
Plot Development - 3.5
Given the premise, this series ran the risk of being one and done adventures all season, but they pretty much all flowed into one another. It wasn't so much a progression as a flat line, but I did appreciate the balance between serialised storytelling and easy to get into episodes for casual viewers.
Villains - 3
I have to give Operation Overdrive props for trying something different. Four different factions of villains, all operating at once, and all with the same goal, was ambitious to say the least. It didn't always work - once the Fearcats showed up, Kamdor and Miratrix got shoved aside quite easily, and none of the four groups really got to do very much other than yell at each other. The best example of them was during Once A Ranger, to be honest - I'd have liked some more mini-alliances rather than just a fourway split all the time.
I also have no idea what the point of Norg was at all. His final fight in the last episode was nice, but 31 episodes of being yelled at by literally everyone, including the Rangers, didn't exactly enamour him to me, which is a shame. Kelson Henderson has played better characters, for sure.
Team-Up - 4
Once A Ranger was a nice return to form after the previous team-ups in SPD. The set-up was pretty clever, and while the Overdrive Rangers gave up a bit easily, it had that nostalgia factor that really made me smile. Something about the Retro Rangers' theme tunes all playing while they were fighting was awesome, and the lack of a Megazord fight to finish everything off was a refreshing change. They do get a bit boring.
Overall - 3.42
Hottest Ranger - I don't think anyone really did it for me this season. Props to Mr Hartford for Big Dad Energy though.
Notable Episodes:
Face To Face (Parts 1+2)/Man Of Mercury (Parts 1+2) - Basically a four-part story introducing Tyzonn to the team. Made me ship Mack and Ty, which was something I hadn't expected to do
Once A Ranger (Parts 1+2) - Retro Rangers, unite!
Things Not Said - The truth about Mack comes to light, and propels his story arc into its final phase.
Way Back When - Usually I hate a recap show, especially so close to the end of the season, but this one uses the framing sequence to propel the plot of the last three episodes, so it's actually important for a change.

the most iconic episode of each power rangers season: disney era edition
in honor of “it’s friday, i have no life and i’ve gotta put my endless power rangers knowledge to use somehow or i may implode”... i’m proud to present this listicle no one asked for. (see part 1: saban era here)
disclaimer: these are not necessarily “the best” or “my favorite” episodes of each season, merely the episode which i feel best captures the tone (erring on the lighter side) of each season. this more like “if you’re gonna watch just one episode of each season, i recommend...” episodes. i’ve excluded crossovers and specials from this list because who’s gonna say that ANYTHING is more iconic than “once a ranger” making fun of the unlikelihood of tommy having a phd? certainly not me, and that’s just not fair to the rest of a pretty iconic season. okay. on with the list.
ninja storm: "i love lothor" marah and kapri convince lothor to make a tv show to conquer earth because "it worked for britney and christina." cam and tori take a cooking class because they are good friends, the rest of the ranger boys take the same class because they like cute girls (can relate). blake and cam accidentally fall under a love spell with tori, while the girls in the cooking class (including kelly) all fall for a very leave it to beaver version of lothor. cam insists the way to a girls' heart is acne face wash.
dino thunder: "isn't it lava-ly" cassidy CANNOT function without devin who is suddenly mysteriously busy. ethan is the lovable insufferable know-it-all we all love and appreciate as he prepares to enter the "detonation man" video game tournament. he makes himself a t-shirt that says "i am detonation man" but ends up losing to devin who is secretly a detonation man whiz. trent gets sidelined for the nth time because the footage simply isn't there. the megazord hangs ten. (god i wanted to pick "lost in translation" so bad, but it's not representative, it's just good)
spd: "boom" ranger tech boom, an adult man who should know better, lied to his parents and told them he was the spd orange ranger (who simply doesn't exist) and when his parents come to town, some of the rangers bend over backwards to help him perpetuate the lie, while jack and sky have bonding adventures in space. boom's parents learn the truth, and love him just the same, because this is wholesome content, OKAY?
mystic force: "inner strength" xander cannot fathom that he isn't the best ranger or that he has anything to learn from daggeron who is literally only there to teach the rangers things. he puts both feet ENTIRELY in his mouth. the rangers take the hogwarts express, edging toby ever closer to the inevitable therapy he most certainly needs after being their work supervisor. a giant does not eat the rangers, but thinks about it. if you ever wondered what i mean by "mystic force is just harry potter meets xena with spandex" ...this is what i mean.
operation overdrive: "it's hammer time" the rangers meet actual norse god loki, disguised as actual norse god thor (who are actually norse gods, who actually exist in this universe, i cannot stress this enough) in mexico while searching for mjolnir. nascar legend ronnie robinson is mistaken for actual norse goddess freyja, and spencer disguises himself as ronny disguising herself as freya to seduce loki and it works.
jungle fury: "true friends, true spirits" rj accidentally befriends flit, camille pretends she doesn't absolutely love and care about the little bugger. lily calls flit "cute" and theo nearly pulls an optical muscle with how hard he rolls his eyes because he's that predictable. flit tries to be helpful but isn’t (he is, however, incredibly lovable). rj loses control over the fact that he's an ACTUAL werewolf, but figures it out after fighting himself. slapstick humor ensues as the rangers try to catch a fly.
rpm: "heroes among us" gem gets a gold medal, scott gets jealous, dillon gets vivid flashbacks. honestly though, we get truman family focus AND the boom twins being their cutest selves? AND gem learning the power of friendship after flying his chicken into the apocalyptic waste to save one reckless red? classic. (and we get some good citizens of corinth content which is a+)

which power rangers shows are good? I've only seen RPM onwards and I can only really say I like RPM
i’d rec these 4:
lost galaxy is a ton of fun for some of its story beats and the way it attempts to adapt gingaman into something very different, though main character-wise it’s pretty bland imo so it might be difficult to get invested in if you’re more of a character-focused person
lightspeed rescue is basically the opposite for me where i love most of the rangers and would rec it on that merit but once the titanium ranger stuff is over with it’s really not the most narratively exciting
time force is great but it’s hard to deny that the majority of its impressive aspects are just yoinked wholesale from timeranger. think it’s still worth a watch though for the smaller things they did change. wes/jen is way better canon het than tatsuya/yuuri for starters lol
dino thunder is good! the rare one where the rangers being in high school doesn’t feel too tiring. they’re just really nice funny kids who have a chill friend group vibe. and the original villain mr power rangers invented for this season is very cool for the most part.
as for the others i’ve seen, mystic force is. pretty alright? i really like its first ~half at least but unfortunately it falls apart a lot as it goes on as they tried to shove every single magiranger development into Way less time than would’ve been optimal. and i’m not a huge fan of spd, overdrive or jungle fury personally, they just didn’t click for me, but i wouldn’t call any of the 3 bad - they all have plenty of moments that i found enjoyable.
but rpm will really always be the benchmark to which no other power rangers can quite compare..... tfw

Hello! Someone who doesn't watch Super Sentai here. Could you tell me what yours thoughts are on why Hasbro decided to adapt Ryoulsuger (i bet i misspelled that) instead of a previous one like ToQer, LuPat (misspelled those too, didn't I), the one with the animals or the one in space. Maybe they want to do something more "traditional" before adapting the more "different" shows?
Okay so the simple answer is “dinosaur robots sell” but I have Opinions so LET’S GO!!!
ToQger is a great show. Cute characters. Engaging plot. A genius fucking plot twist. Brightly colored, dynamic suits.
It is also about trains.
Now in Japan, well… trains are a bit more a part of life there; it makes SENSE. But, really… when I think of trains in America I think Thomas. Also, it’s megazord can grow a dick, technically. Look it up.
That said, ToQger would make a great season!!! It has bright colors and an Orange Ranger (Something never before seen on-screen in PR unless you count Kat Manx, who is officially White). The color changing is so fun. It’s big bad is human and I do so love villains with non-monster forms. (Relating to the BeMo half of the trailer, CONGRATULATIONS ROXY FOR BEING THE FIRST MULTICOLORED FEMALE RANGER I ADORE YOUR EVIL FACE!!!)
But by this point it’s been skipped over several times, so… well, fingers crossed.
Lupinranger vs Patoranger is MY FAVORITE SENTAI. W Red killed me. The suits are amazing in their clear differences yet simultaneous similarities. The characters are all so entertaining.
However: heroes fighting.
It’s been done before, but those heroes in America have always been simply manipulated/brainwashed/mind controlled/corrupted/etc. into being villains.
THAT said, my prayer is that they’re saving LuPato for the 30th anniversary. Between the repainted old props as Lupin Collection pieces, the fact that the Core Patrangers (a POLICE TEAM) are the colors of Syd and Bridge, as well as what Sky THOUGHT his color would be, as we near the year of SPD (2025), the fact that Ryusoulger has a crossover with LuPat, and the old concept of Hexagon (basically Power Rangers: Civil War), I’m being a hopeful dumbass. Alternatively, could totally make the Lupins and Pats two Rivals in some sort of hero contest.
…I haven’t seen enough of Zyouhger to argue it, but I think it’s blocky style mixed with cool animals and fun suits would sell, if they hadn’t JUST made an animal Sentai. Maybe in a series or two. Maybe. (Hasbro could you like… air two different PRs a year all these excess Sentai are killing me)
As for Kyuranger, rumor is that Hasbro doesn’t want to touch Yellow’s pointy helmet. Other than that, I WANT IT SO MUCH. The mecha? Gorgeous. The suits? So utterly unique. The potential to bring in Ari and Remi from the comics in as mentors P L E A S E ! ! !
Also a season NOT ON FUCKING EARTH would be great thank you.
But, as for Ryusoulger… Dinosaur robots sell. The suits are pretty, Hasbro has got my hopes up after BeMo that they could fix the Nada/Gaisorg arc, especially its end (the death was just so messy and badly written despite the end of the episode goodbye message Breaking me). I’m hoping for an extra girl Ranger, since that seems to be the Thing these days with one girl teams (Kendall, Avatar Roxy).
Also knights. That would be… so cool if they included that part.
And, yeah, it’s also just a Safe Bet. Mighty Morphin, Dino Thunder, and Dino Charge are all LOVED by the fans. They sell well, too. There’s tradition there, no Era without their Dino team (Saban/MM, Disney/DT, Neo-Saban/DC). But this… this will also be the first series with NO relation to Saban, and BeMo was in the works already when Saban sold. Using tradition, hopefully, they can show off exactly what this era will meet.
And I really want to believe that it’ll be good.
tl;dr a lot of bullshit reasons, some hopes, and money + hopefully making their name.
