I have this theory, however unfounded, for the reason the Fantastic Four are seemingly shown entering the orbit of our Earth in the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene. Spoilers-ish!

It's been stated that the Fantastic Four we see in First Steps are not part of the Sacred Timeline (this is implied; I don't recall the exact phrasing, but what was said hinted that they are from a variant universe). This is clear enough from the whole retro-future aesthetic they've got going on. It's also been stated somewhere that Reed (aka Mr. Fantastic) has been investigating or researching the multiverse.

My theory is that the Fantastic Four fail to save their world from Galactus, and so commit to finding some way to travel to a different Earth in a different universe. For what reason? Who knows. Maybe they just want a new home, maybe they're trying to warn other Earths about the threat of Galactus...
