Man i sent hinge a support request being like "hey you keep showing and recommending me to men despite having set your app to women and nb only" and i got a fucking response like "or algorithm learns your preferences through seeing who you like and who you don't" and I'm like mate that's for, like, other shit like what their favorite sports are and what hobbies they have, not gender. You're supposed to prefilter that. What the hell man.

This self help guide on adjusting to hearing loss and deafness starts by explaining that these things are your fault. Either you made bad decisions that effected your body, or you made bad decisions that effected you spiritually and so you are being punished for your moral crimes. But! Dont worry. Being punished by having one of the best parts of life confiscated forevermore isn't death and you can still scrape out some joy in the world :D
these books have all already been prefiltered at least once to either have a medical professional or own voices author. Titles cant involve stupid trend diets or references to political or religious beliefs.
And still. Still. Im tossing 2 out if every 5 books for having the most harmful shit in them.

The eventual haul! It actually looks more yellowish in person
That jury-rigged draining solution actually ended up being less of a PITA than I expected. Even accounting for the fact that I was balancing a pourover coffee funnel in a regular funnel, on top of an initially empty plastic drink bottle.
I hadn't actually used that mesh fruit bag yet, after picking it up with the idea of containing berries and fruit pieces inside the fermenting jars. But, the mesh turned out to be finer than I thought. And, for plain whole grain of rice brews? That ought to be plenty of filtration (and probably easier to squeeze out). That Makgeolli Guy also noticed less difference than he might have expected with practical results between different levels of mesh.
But yeah, in this case there was also the cornmeal to contend with. As I sorta expected going in, that complicated things. The bag was harder to wring out with that many finer particles, and after that I ended up switching to sending it through a tea strainer prefilter on its way into the metal coffee filter setup. My best strategy turned out to be stirring it around in the filter with a spoon to keep the particles from clogging up the works as severely, and then rinsing out the bit of remaining cornmeal sludge at several points during the proceedings.
It probably would have been fine to just let that settle out again in the bottles, tbqh. But, I am nothing if not stubborn.
The whole process smelled lovely, at least. At least at this point? It mostly just smells (and tastes) like a normal glutinous rice batch, without any real corniness detectable. Pleasantly fruity, and strong as hell with the relatively low amount of water used?
Granted, I did use 200g of cornmeal to 500g of rice. But, I was kinda expecting more obvious corniness to the resulting brew.
Not disappointed thus far, though. It seems like a totally fine batch, and I'm curious to try it once it has a little time to mellow.

tell us 5 boring facts about yourself tag game
Thanks @randomfoggytiger for the tag~
I can’t sleep so I’m playing on tumblr
2. I have tried watching 4 different tv shows but I can’t focus on them because I’m tired
3. I just watched two different YouTube videos on how to clean and disassemble vacuum cleaners, only one was partially relevant
4. Tomorrow I’m getting a new garage door installed, the box is in the garage and I’m dying to start assembling it myself but trying to refrain.
5. If you own a Dyson stick vacuum get in the habit of unscrewing the filter before you empty the canister as accidentally pressing the trigger even for a second sucks the debris into the prefilters and you have to unscrew everything to clean it properly.
no pressure tag:

Currently living in a neighborhood built in the 1980's and the iron pipes are starting to fall apart.
Also, there is hard water, so you get specks of calcium if you don't have it prefiltered.
Vote based on your local government's regulations/recommendations. For example, if your tap water meets the legal requirements for safe drinking water but tastes funny so you filter it before drinking, you would select option 4: "It is SAFE, but it tastes/smells/looks off; I DON'T drink it as-is."
Examples of an off taste could include tasting like metal or chlorine; an off look could include visible particulates or a yellow tint.
We ask your questions anonymously so you don’t have to! Submissions are open on the 1st and 15th of the month.

Day 35.5: Flagstaff zeros
After having breakfast with the family, it was time to start knocking items off my list of tasks for the day. This started with an inventory of my resupply box and food left over from the last section. I had a bit of a surplus, as the mileage differences between the AZT redline and Flagstaff Urban Route meant I had sent myself a bit more than I needed. A good problem to have, but still requiring attention. The next segment should be 109.4 miles, which will take 5 days at 22 mile days, or 5.5 days at 20 mile days, rather than the 6.7 days I’d planned based on redline mile markers at 18 mile days.
After inventorying, I packed up 6 days of supplies to have a bit of a buffer. Water sources aren’t amazing in the next section, so it is possible (though not super likely) I might need to cut a day short to camp closer to a source and then do a long day the following day. I also included some surplus coffee and Liquid IV packets.
Next, I prepared for my errands on the town. I double-checked the list of gear I planned to purchase (including a new fuel canister, a replacement pair of socks for one of mine that were developing a hole, an better dirty water storage container, some thin paracord to replace tent stake pulls, and other minor items).
I’d been using a smartwater bottle as my dirty container, which worked well for a while. However, it was developing lots of lines from repeated squeezing and the pressure caused by it, and I didn’t want it to spring a leak on me. It also had a narrow opening which made it difficult to get water out of shallow sources (which I expect to encounter many of in the remainder of the trip). I intended to get a 2 liter CNOC bag, which solves most of these problems and has the correct threading to mate to my water filter.
Speaking of which, I also had to give my filter a good backflushing. The muddy water I’d used in the last section had slowed the flow significantly, and this would be best to do with unlimited potable water. While it had backflushed clean on trail, I had forgotten that the filters usually need some percussive maintenance during backflushing to shake out loose debris. Once I did this, it took about 30 minutes of backflushing in the hotel sink to get the water to run consistently clear! Hopefully this solves my flow rate problem.
Next, I headed downtown to the knot of outdoor gear stores. A day pass to the Flagstaff bus system was only $2.50, and ran almost exactly where I needed to go. I dropped off some of my surplus items at a hiker box at the first store, but I couldn’t find the water bag I wanted.
I tried some of the other stores (including one that was ostensibly an outdoor gear shop but really only sold expensive, status-symbol brand clothing), having no luck until the fourth and final one I tried, Peace Outfitters. This place was awesome, with super friendly and knowledgeable staff who’d been thru hiking before. They even had some of the smaller specialty items I had assumed I’d only be able to find online. They didn’t mention it, but I think I also got a 10% discount for being a thru hiker. Great experience, nice people, wish they were my local gear shop.
After this, I made some phone calls to catch up with other family, and made my way over to the grocery store to pick up some fresh watermelon and a few other items I’d been craving. I couldn’t find cheesecloth here, which one of the guys at the shop had suggested as a prefilter for my water.
After this, I headed back to the hotel to drop off my things, then to the bus again to go see a movie. I had gotten a ticket to Drop, a thriller/mystery that ended up being pretty good. Not great, but entertaining. Afterwards, I checked out another grocery store by the theater and successfully located some cheesecloth. Then I retired to my hotel for the night, aided by a large Hawaiian pizza.
The next morning, some trail acquaintances and I had debating leaving as a group, but I was still feeling very tired and decided to take a second zero day. This one had many fewer chores, and consisted mostly of chilling in the hotel room and napping intermittently. I took a trip to the grocery store for more economical dinner materials (microwaveable 90 second packets of rice and beans), but otherwise stayed in most of the day.
Tomorrow, I’ll cross MM 600 and start my approach to the Grand Canyon, which should take somewhere in the realm of 5-6 days. From there it will be almost exactly 100 miles until the Utah border and the end of the trail.
