Reading the reactions to the Minecraft movie trailer has caused me to start thinking, so I'm gonna lay some points down that have been brewing in my mind.
1. Minecraft Story Mode is not that good
You guys are acting like prequel fans. Stop before you morph into r/Prequelmemes
2. This has Marvel Director Syndrome attached to it
The director of this movie is Jared Hess, who's well known for Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Nacho Libre (2006). This probably explains Jack Black being in this (he starred in Nacho Libre and was going to be in Napoleon Dynamite as Rex). My theory on why is probably an attempt to pull the millennial market in by saying, "Look! It's the director of your favorite goofy indie move!" Think Eternals (2021), which had Chloé Zhao direct after already making Nomandland (2020), which won Best Picture for the 2020 awards, in what I assume is an attempt to bring in a more serious crowd.
3. The End Poem is neat, but really doesn't fit modern Minecraft anymore
Yeah, it's cool and goes hard, but it just... really doesn't fit the game anymore? It's hard to explain, but the End doesn't really feel like a goal anymore, unlike the older versions, where that was the big thing being built up. Now you have 50 thousand different things to do that make you think, "Why bother?" once it comes to the End. So the poem isn't really a thing to think about anymore.
4. This is literally just one of those unlicensed novels from the 2010's
You know what I'm talking about, so, um, congrats for sticking to A source material, I guess.
5. Of fucking course it's not gonna be what you want, that isn't profitable :(
There was no way in hell this would be the "deep, reflective experience" you guys keep clamoring for. That shit only really happens with indies, and Minecraft is WAY TOO PROFITABLE as a franchise to even be considered for one. That leaves us with an attempt that was always gonna be existing to solely capitalize on the 8-12 year old demographic at best or complete slop at worst.
6. Probably won't be as bad as you guys are saying, tbh
Yeah, it doesn't look good, but it's just gonna be another Jumanji-type movie, and I have a high tolerance for that kind of stuff. Probably gonna be a 4-5/10 at best. Not gonna watch it (I don't go to the theater much unless it's an event or my dad decides to go, and he isn't that big of a Minecraft fan), but what can ya do :|
IN CONCLUSION
Tumblr discovers regular blockbuster movies based on popular property and is enraged at it.
Go listen to [USA] by Anamanaguchi now. You'll thank me later.
#minecraft#minecraft movie#anamanaguchi#[usa] anamanaguchi#my nerves have become dulled#i feel nothing about this#interesting to analyze but nothing about this storm will stick#I'm gonna do MvC2 combos on PS3 later

i don't really care about the role of capitalism and automation in the context of the "clanker" memes. y'all would be saying the n-word and hating slaves for "stealing your jobs" or something if it was still overt slavery.
and i don't care about the AI-obsession's role in it. because no, when you say "my daughter better not bring home a clanker" you're not talking about chatgpt. chatgpt is an LLM not a gen AI. it wouldn't be operating a robot. what you're talking about is a class of person you're allowed to hate.
there were some funny clanker memes. mostly the reddit stuff 5 years ago on r/prequelmemes. 90% of what i see now is just "haha i want to commit violent acts but it's okay, they're not even a Real Person™".

People would’ve liked the prequels more if they actually watched the damn things and understood the fact that it was a drama secondarily and a political commentary primarily instead of making fucking memes.
Hello there” is funny, I’ll admit, but r/prequelmemes ruined my favorite movies in the public eye and I’ll never forgive yall for it.
