Bubbles are round? When we blow bubbles ...yes they are round but look at these! A bit of a messy activity but it really shows up the difference between the shape of single bubbles and bubbles crowded together. Try and help your child to reason out why this is. In a classroom situation it’s fun to look at one child then a group of children all squashed together. Or try doing the same with dolls. A doll dressed in a tutu works really well. Then children can see how the shape changes and can reason why this is. This also leads on to lots more learning: How do the bubbles hold their shape? What’s inside a bubble? Why do they pop? Geometrical shapes - how many sides do the squashed bubbles have? What’s the most common number of sides? Look at how they fit perfectly together ....tessellations. Cut out some similar shapes and make a collage. The extension ideas are endless! #bubbles #shapesandspaces #tesselation #primarymaths #preschoolnumbers #numberfun #numberactivities #teachnumbers #mathsthroughart #artmaths #artnumber #artscience #sensoryplay #homeschoolactivity #homeschoolactivity @motherandbaby @babyandtoddlermag @primaryeducation @primarypress @numbermag #numberfun #learninggames #learningforkids #learningvideos #numberlearning #numbersarefun #learningathome
Just Pinned to TPT Products: Develop your students' understanding of place value with these engaging Christmas worksheets. Students will use their analytical skills and knowledge of place value to compare numbers to 10,000. They will need to write either the greater than, less than or equal to sign in each box. #comparingnumbers #grade3 #grade4 #grade2 #elementarymath #primarymaths #mathematics #mathcenters https://ift.tt/2H2ZBeg
Eleanor's worked hard this after after using #barbieandken to compete in a #dienes maths challenge. Start with zero then keep adding what you roll, trading tens for the #dienes. It takes a lot of #patience, especially when #dice numbers keep being swapped. #barbie won btw. Still a good idea if anyone is struggling. I hear it works for #spiderman and #hulk too but they are banned in our house. #homeschooling #mathisfun #ks1 #primaryeducation #primarymaths #homeschooldad #homeschoolfun #addition #homeaddition https://www.instagram.com/p/CBv3zwCBxPY/?igshid=1kvffm6juaitu

Our latest papier-mâché project. Good art/maths exercise. Tessellations and Hexagons. The two words and the associated properties will be imprinted in your child’s memory for ever after decorating this tortoise shell! Much more effective than exercises in a text book or even just drawing tessellating patterns. Why do we have separate Maths lessons? Or separate Science lessons? Why not just more Art and Craft which kids love anyway? Then introduce the maths and science through art? In fact why not get rid of ALL the subjects in primary schools and teach everything through hands on creative activities. All forms of writing, history, geography ... can be learnt from art and craft activities. Makes sense to me! Anyway, back to tessellations! You see them everywhere. Tiled floors and walls. Bricks in a wall. Quilted bedspreads. Religious designs. Tessellations are a set of 2D shapes which fit together perfectly without any gaps. They’ve been with us for a long time. The Latin word ‘tessella’ means little square and the patterns were found and studied as early as the 1600’s. M.C.Escher, a famous artist, was fascinated by the patterns in ancient cultures and began using tessellations in his work. Well, a tortoise shell is tessellated with hexagons. As you can see from the pics here they will fit together exactly without gaps. But art does allow creativity so it’s ok to leave gaps if the contrast of the bright shapes against the black background looks good. Children will also learn that it’s very difficult, in fact nearly impossible to keep to strict regular sized hexagons on something the shape of a tortoise shell. So top marks to nature who manages to do it beautifully! #tessellation #primarymaths #mathsart #hexagon #shapeprojectsmitaash #papiermache #papiermachemagazine #artcraft @primaryeducation @classroom_skills @primaryteaching88 #primaryteachers #teachmaths #ukcurriculum @educationweek #tortoise #tortoiseshell #funcrafts #craftsforkids
