92 Degree Coffee, Myrtle St. Zenit EM. Ilford FP4.

When I was out and about testing the Zenit EM I went for a coffee at 92 Degrees on Myrtle St.

Since I had a few prime lenses with me I decided to shoot a few low light shots to see what I'd get. All but one of them opened to f1.8 and I took readings on a light meter app on my iPhone.

Dear Pentax,

Could you PLEASE release some new prime lenses that are:

a) wider than 23mm (35mm equivalent on an APS-C crop),

b) f/2.0 or faster, AND

c) charge less than $900 USD for it???

Not a single limited lens of theirs is a combination of A and B. The mirrorless (especially Fujifilm X) users can't have all the fun!

I love my Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens, but I can't carry that thing around with me everywhere!

2023 | straight out the camera

this is a shoutout for prime lenses.

this picture fell out of the camera exactly like this. no tonal correction, no exposure adjustments, no colour manipulation, sharpening or denoising. the image was imported as raw into capture one pro and exported as jpeg with a page length of 2000 pixels. the camera is a sony a6000, which I bought used for 250 euros. the lens is the zeiss 35 mm / f2.8. On the a6000 this corresponds to a focal length of 50 mm. i bought this great lens used for 350 euros. the exposure was controlled by the sony camera.

i am thrilled.

Hooked up the 18mm prime to the X-T20 and took it for a drive.

Always find it a useful exercise to walk a well-trodden path when I play with a lens for the first time in a while. Helps me get the old muscle memory, or whatever photographers call it, back in shape.
