Step 1: Set A Clear Goal

Bad examples: “I want a computer”; “Buy a computer.” (it is important to be more specific)

Good example: “I want to buy a $500 used Apple computer within six months without borrowing money from others.”

Second good example :

“What do I want?” = “A $500 used Apple computer.”

“When do I want it?” = “Within six months.”

(Next he needs to specify when he wants it. The best way for him to close the gap between his current situation (no computer) and his goal (buy a computer) changes depending on when he actually needs the computer. If he just wants a computer within the next three years, he may be able to buy it by simply saving his money. (If you have specific conditions for achieving your goal, you should include them in the goal statement)

The more specific the goal is, the more specific the action plan will be. Whenever you set a goal, get into the habit of asking yourself, “What specifically do I want to achieve? When do I want to achieve it? What specific conditions do I have?

Problem Solving 101

Hello my blog! Akhirnya kembali aktif setelah 3 minggu ini beristirahat karena masalah kesehatan. Saya kemarin harus beristirahat total, alhamdulillah sekarang sudah sehat kembali. :)

Dua bulan terakhir semenjak memutuskan untuk keluar dari pekerjaan saya, saya jadi memiliki waktu luang yang cukup banyak. Tak ingin menyia-nyiakan waktu, saya mengisi waktu luang untuk menulis blog dan membaca beberapa buku. Sebenarnya membaca merupakan salah satu hobi saya sejak lama, namun semenjak internet berkembang pesat saya lebih suka menghabiskan banyak waktu untuk browsing atau aktif di media sosial. Jadi referensi bacaan saya menjadi sangat berkurang.

Sepertinya tuhan mendengar keinginan saya untuk lebih banyak mendapatkan ilmu dari membaca dengan mengirimkan pasangan yang mempunyai hobi membaca. :) I swear he is totally a book junkie!

Salah satu buku yang direkomendasikan oleh mas Ghufron adalah buku dari Ken Watanabe berjudul Problem Solving 101. Watanabe merupakan mantan management consultant McKinsey & Company dan saat ini Watanabe menjadi CEO perusahaan yang ia dirikan. Pada awalnya Watanabe menulis buku yang menurut saya must read ini untuk mengajarkan anak-anak Jepang untuk dapat berpikir selayaknya problem solver sejati agar mampu mengambil peran proaktif dalam pendidikan dan membentuk kehidupan mereka sendiri. Namun ternyata karyanya menarik perhatian para pembaca dewasa dan menjadi Japan’s number one business best-seller pada tahun 2007.

Menurut saya, Watanabe memberikan penjelasan yang sangat baik mengenai step by step memecahkan sebuah masalah secara detail namun dengan bahasa yang sangat mudah dimengerti, sederhana dan disertai gambar-gambar ilustrasi yang menarik. Sehingga kita bisa dengan mudah menerapkan konsep problem solving pada masalah yang kita hadapi, guys.

Sebagai contoh kasus, saya ingin sekali menabung agar dapat membeli kamera yang saya inginkan yaitu Fujifilm x-A2 beserta lensa fix 50mm. Untuk mendapatkannya saya akan membuat perencanaan dan menetapkan cara yang efektif untuk dapat membeli kamera itu dengan menuliskannya seperti berikut ini.

So, masalah yang saya hadapi bisa diselesaikan dengan menerapkan cara-cara yang diajarkan oleh Watanabe di buku ini. Apabila kita bisa menerapkan konsep ini pada masalah kita pasti akan sangat bermanfaat sekali bukan? Pastinya menghemat waktu serta tenaga tanpa perlu bergalau ria pada masalah kita. :)

Today, I was going through the daily reports with the Northeastern University Co-op Interns before sending them out, and we noticed a slight miscue in the Macro Formula for one of them. We took a step back to look at the bigger picture, and then used some key problem-solving skills to fix the Macro and update the system.

Mereka menyusun rencana untuk mencapai mimpi, mereka kemudian mencari tahu cara paling efektif untuk mencapai setiap tujuan yang lebih kecil dan mengambil tindakan diperlukan.

Proses Pemecahan Masalah Yang Terbukti Untuk Mencapai Tujuan :

Step 1: Set a clear goal.

Step 2: Determine the gap between the goal and the current situation.

Step 3: Form a hypothesis about how to close the gap and achieve the goal. 3A List as many options and ideas as possible. 3B Select the best ideas as the hypothesis.

Step 4: Check the hypothesis. Go back to step 3 if the hypothesis is disproved. 4A Determine the analyses and information required to test the hypothesis. 4B Analyze and develop action plan

Develop an Implementation Plan

seperti yang ditulis dibawah postingan ini memprioritaskan ide-ide pemecah masalah dari kanan atas hingga paling terakhir kiri bawah.

Q: anda/ tim memprioritaskan tindakan berdasarkan asumsi bahwa anda/ tim dapat melakukan segala sesuatu sendiri. akan tetapi, bagaimana bila jika membutuhkan bantuan orang/ pihak lain?

A1 : sebagai contoh tim ingin membuat poster dan menyebarkan di sekolah. akan tetapi, tidak ada satupun anggota tim yang mahir dalam seni membuat poster (maka kamu dapat menaruh opsi tersebut di kiri bawah). beberapa menit kemudian kamu menyadari bahwa kamu dapat meminta bantuan john seseorang yang mahir membuat poster untuk membuatnya. poster yang dibuat dapat menarik dan mudah karena mendapat bantuan john (lalu kamu dapat memindahkan opsi tersebut dari kiri bawah menjadi kanan atas)

dengan mendapatkan bantuan dari orang lain kita dapat melakukan implementasi gagasan pemecah masalah lebih banyak (jika berdasarkan gambar dibawah dapat melakukan ke-13 ide). setiap orang memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan, dengan meminta bantuan orang lain kamu dapat menutupi kekurangan.

meskipun meminta bantuan orang lain, kita tidak selalu dapat mengimplementasikan semua ide pemecah masalah dalam beberapa kasus.

setelah memahami akar masalah dan melakukan interview serta analisis , hal yang harus dilakukan adalah mengembangkan ide-ide solusi.

tulislah ide-ide yang kira2 dapat memecahkan masalah sebanyak apapun sekalipun ide gila, selama itu solusi yang menarik dan kreatif.

prioritaskan ide-ide tersebut menjadi jumlah yang lebih sedikit, untuk memutuskan ide yang harus dilaksanakan (karena ga mungkin ngelakuin semua ide-ide dalam jangka waktu pendek)

Problem Solving Toolbox: Problem Solving Design Plan

If you start collecting and analyzing data without first clarifying the question you are trying to answer, you’re probably doing yourself more harm than good. You’ll end up drowning in a flood of information and realize only later that most of that research was a waste of time.

To avoid this problem, you should develop a problem-solving design plan before you start chasing after information. In the design plan, you clarify the issues you are trying to solve, state your current hypotheses and rationale, and list the analyses, actions, and information required to prove or disprove those hypotheses. Developing this plan before you start researching will drastically increase your problem-solving productivity.

Additionally, putting your plan down on paper will not only clarify your thoughts. If you’re working in a group, this plan will also help your team focus on what needs to be done and provide the jumping-off point for your group brainstorming. You will be able to focus on only what you really need to know to make a decision.

Determine The Analyses And Information Required To Test Hypothesis

This is where the information collection and analysis part of the problem solving process comes into play. You’re not collecting information just for the sake of collecting it, or analyzing it just for fun. You’re doing it to help you make better decisions.

How to analyze?

use 5W+1H Question

you can interview one per one, ask only these three questions and write down how many students raise their hands for each one (and count their own answers as well)

People often fall into the trap of collecting information and conducting analyses just for the sake of doing them. Don’t forget that the point of all this research is to help you make informed decisions. Try to collect and analyze information efficiently and effectively. This will help you make better use of your limited time and resources.
