❝ You're right about both points, ❞ ‹ the Detective replied simply, his own tone equally as relaxed and light-hearted despite the earlier warning offered. Though when he spoke next, it was as quiet as before to obscure the words in the wind so only Klavier could hear him in the moment. › ❝ The name's Shuuji. Detective. I'll introduce myself more in a minute. ❞
‹ The mirror would be adjusted slightly, and though Klavier were searching for a metaphorical answer he would soon find that it gave a bit more of a literal one. A short distance behind the two men was a figure with eyes trained forward in their direction, the gaze so sharp it could have legally passed as a weapon in its own rights. Both of their hands were balled into their pockets and their body seemed to tighten closer in, perhaps in response to Shuuji walking them both towards a more commercial sidewalk. ›
‹ After they made it across a street, Shuuji cast his gaze around their immediate surroundings until he stopped upon a cafe — a smokescreen he could use to their advantage, which he pointed out with a gloved hand. ›
❝ There's that cafe I wanted to show you, ❞ ‹ he then spoke at a normal volume, clearly part of their little act. › ❝ They have some of the best danishes in town, from what I remember. Also, it's my treat today, so pick whatever you want. ❞
‹ After he spoke, he offered a wink — a visual nudge that this was just him playing along as if they knew one another to some degree. Safety in numbers, and public eyes to deter any attempts, would be key here. ›

► [ & so it began, the beginning to an end ] [ @procksecutor ]
‹ Klavier was the first to arrive to a barren driveway, devoid of any signs of the caller's promised van — and for a few minutes more it would perhaps begin to feel like a terrible dream, given no updates had been forthcoming since. Eventually however, a distant crackle of pavement rubble beneath heavy-duty tires could be heard nearing the prosecutor's location, its source easily seen to be a heavy-duty police transport van. So the call wasn't a prank, and this wasn't a dream... ›
‹ The vehicle would pull to a stop at the entrance to Klavier's driveway, a door on the passenger's side opening to reveal a tall, muscular man dressed head to toe in protective tactical gear — a man concerned for his safety around the criminal he hauled, and with a dark expression that read as equal parts concern and disgust. He moved towards the van's rear door before he paused just beside it, head now turned to Klavier; all the while, another heavily-geared officer joined him at his side, mirroring the tense, uncertain energy his partner radiated. ›
❝ He's all yours, ❞ ‹ was all the leader of the duo would say before he pulled back the sliding door. The dark interior made it difficult to see, but such would not be a problem for long with its occupant opting to make a swift but calm exit at the nearly-forceful behest of the escorting officers. ›
‹ Once the officers stepped aside, it could no longer be denied; there, in the flesh, stood Kristoph Gavin with hands cuffed behind his back yet, his suit jacket slung over his shoulder to rest. It was... picture-perfect; Kristoph's face held nary a wrinkle to it, his half-lidded and gentle eyes as sweet as they always had been, his smile having sat steadily on his face the moment it became visible. It were as if time had failed to leave a dent in him, his time in jail simply shrugged off his shoulders with ease. ›
❝ My dearest brother... Klavier... ❞ ‹ uttered Kristoph with such a kind tone — it was all too easy to forget his horrific and chilling outburst so long ago with how he spoke now. › ❝ To welcome me so easily... Truly, I am blessed. ❞
❝ Don't run off just yet, either of you, ❞ ‹ spoke the smaller of the two officers, the one who presumably called earlier given his voice was a match to the one who broke the news. › ❝ When you're ready, we need to discuss the terms of his parole with you, so you're on the same page as the rest of us. ❞

Sometimes, Nahyuta wonders why he bothers at all.
It's a shameful thought to be having, he knows. But even pushing that aside, it serves him no purpose, and as such it would be best banished from his mind entirely - yet it always seems to sneak back, like an insect returning to its nest.
He's done more far more harm than good in his life at this point, and as long as he continues on like this, as a prosecutor serving under Ga'ran, many more will continue to suffer because of him. But what choice does he have? In his heart, Nahyuta knows that he is selfish - but he does not want for Rayfa to suffer the way he has suffered, as the son of a criminal; a pariah of society.
So he resigns himself to his fate, and reminds himself to his usual mantras. Even if he were to rebel, he'd never have the power to stop Ga'ran's regime, so the innocent will continue to suffer either way - now with Rayfa paying the price among them. It's an obvious excuse, but it's enough to give him the motivation he needs to carry on in those moments when he thinks he can't go any further.
Yet sometimes, he thinks it would be so much easier to believe the Queen's lies. To accept her propaganda as the truth - and to finally feel as if he's fighting for a righteous cause again. Those are the thoughts that make him feel truly sick, when he has them. But no matter how much he craves to be living and not just surviving... hoping and wishing is sure to only bring more pain - so as always, there's only one thing left to do.
Let it go, and move on.
...His mind turns towards the prosecutor he's about to meet - one Klavier Gavin. Seeing him here now, Nahyuta can't help but feel his lip twist in distaste, though he doesn't know the reason. But whatever his personal feelings are, Klavier's capabilities as a prosecutor cannot be dismissed so easily.
"You must be Klavier Gavin." And so he greets him with a soft tone, a contrast to the sharpness in his eyes. "I hope I haven't kept you waiting for too long."

"Herr Emoworth-" Klavier gently pinched the man's ear lobe, giving it a small tug, "-Have you ever thought about getting your ears pierced? You'd look very cool with an industrial and lobe piercing...Would you let me pierce your ears?"
“ ugh, hands off, klavier. ” edgeworth pushes klavier's hand away from his ear. the topic of a piercing surprises him though. he never thought of such. though, manfred had one, and a part of edgeworth wanted to wear one too when he was still a rookie. “ ... ” he vaguely touched his earlobe, a slight rub between his thumb and index finger before dropping his hand to the side, huffing.
“ i... suppose i did, when i was younger. my mentor had one, so i had some influence to do the same, but i never did. ” thinking, edgeworth's brows furrowed, considering for once. “ i'm afraid i do not know what an industrial and lobe piercing... is. you have to explain it to me. if it sounds stupid, then you will already know my answer to your question, got it? ”

Of course, Phoenix didn't want Trucy to suffer just because of what had happened. He'd struggled for some time to make sure he could keep her safe and ensure she was cared for after suddenly losing his job and having striking little savings to fall back on due to his record of pro bono work. He could appreciate that sentiment, though it wasn't as if Klavier expressing it to him now was the first time he'd considered how he would get groceries.
He liked to think that any pride he may have had was unequivocally dashed against the rocks with his disbarment, but it would be a lie to claim that he had no feelings about the idea of the person who brought about his disbarment now offering to bring him groceries. He had enough help that he wouldn't have to rely on that. Not because of a personal dislike of Klavier, per se, but more because he had no intention to rely on a close relative of Kristoph's for anything.
“Like I said. I've got it covered.” Or, more specifically, Miles and Trucy helping him out ensured it was covered. Between keeping up the lease for Mia's office and his apartment, along with bills, things could get stretched a bit thin at times, but they'd been making it work.
In any case, Klavier brought up another subject, tangentially related to the first. It was still in relation to Trucy and concern for her, though it was evident that wasn't all that was motivating the question. “Right… Didn't realize you were a prosecutor, a celebrity, and a school principal.” It was something he'd gotten in a bit of trouble over, the fact that Trucy was missing more school now that she wanted to tag along when she could when it came to investigations and trials. But that was a relatively recent thing, and he'd need to have a talk with her about it if it kept up. Right now, he had other concerns. So long as she wasn't at risk of expulsion, he could let it go for right now. “Let's see… If I were a lawyer, I'd probably object to that on relevancy. Or… hm, leading, maybe?”
Klavier shook his head. Of course not - how would it be related? Can't a prosecutor ask in concern? Apparently not, but alas Klavier will continue. After all, he would have hated to find out a child would struggle, simply because of something he had a hand in. Klavier is a lot of things, but he's far from an emotionless husk.
"If you were struggling with feeding her, I would happily lend a hand. Obviously, I wouldn't give you any money. Not that I think you wouldn't spend it on her, but because if there's any left over, I wouldn't want you to keep it. No - instead, I would have happily got some groceries sent to your doorstep." That's the least he could do - but that's where wording comes into place. If. Because Phoenix said he has enough, and Klavier would take him for it. He didn't see for any reason that Phoenix would lie.
"Just because I dislike you very much," with dislike being such a severe understatement, "Doesn't mean I dislike her. She's an innocent party."
However, he felt the need to press Phoenix a bit more on the matter of parenting. Because when he considers the times of when he saw that dynamic duo together, something certainly doesn't add up. It may seem like a particular thing to question Phoenix on, but if it opens up a chance for Klavier to scrutinize Phoenix further, then it's a chance Klavier would accept with open arms, like a starving man to bread.
"...You know, if memory serves right, it's illegal for someone her age to not receive an education. Is it a great assumption you're Hausunterricht her? If not, then I'm very concerned to see her at around 10am with Herr Forehead in the courtroom." Klavier smiled, leaning in, "I'm certain you can't see my concern, ja? Unless you're going to say she skipped multiple years and graduated early?"

klavier: Lol. Heads up if you try to make a candle with food coloring, the food coloring will just sink to the bottom of the glass, and when the flame eventually reaches the bottom all the food coloring will catch fire and become one giant tall flame that you cannot possibly blow out and the glass will start to crack and then you’ll throw your tea on it in a panic and then the extremely hot food coloring will boil and sizzle horribly and then the glass will shatter. Please take my word on this. phoenix : What did you do klavier? klavier: a Mistake.

‹ To say something was the "least expected" thing one would have imagined encountering would imply they at least thought it was a possibility; what he had here was something he'd never expected to have asked of him. When he picked up his phone, there was a flurry of words that, if he heard them right, meant today was about to get real interesting. ›
❝ Ah, hold on. I think I understand, but start again from the top? ❞
‹ While Shuuji was already getting his things together to take a trip out to the Prosecutor's Office, he'd admittedly not caught everything that had just been blurted out to him over the phone. All he picked out so far was something about a raccoon being inside somewhere; this could mean many things, but all of them pointed towards Shuuji packing some of Rook's gear today to bring with him. ›

Starter for @procksecutor because we couldn't resist after that plotting ♡
"I wait, what?" Perhaps he hadn't HEARD the blond correctly? Was age really starting to catch up to him? Damn, the mid thirties were rough... but no, no, Phoenix SWORE he had heard right. "You... you want a rematch?" That alone would have been cause for surprise, but what had really taken him off guard had been the CONDITIONS.
Very... specific... conditions...
"And you want to watch me do my job?" Didn't that defeat the purpose of doing individual investigations? Did that mean the defense attorney would be PRIVY to all evidence the prosecution gathers? God, that'd be nice... Imagine how easy my job would be, for once. Sounds great, honestly. "... Why?" Ah, but he wouldn't vocalize just how relieved he was to hear the offer.
Always play hard to get. Besides, Phoenix had a FEELING he knew why the other was requesting no, demanding such a rematch.

Had this not been what he'd wanted - to push Klavier away? To keep himself from hurting the other further. From wanting to try and fix the unfixable. From burdening others with the myriad of issues that continue to plague his existence, no matter what he does.
Why does it have to feel wrong, then? Why does that defeated, weak tone in Klavier's voice cause his chest to feel constricted.
❝ ..Of course. ❞ He's watching as Klavier prepares to leave - to shift the scales of their dynamic back to what it should be. Why does that bother him? ❝ If that is what you wish. ❞
There's a pause, and he isn't sure if the words he says next have been intensely deliberated on, or bypassing his usual filters entirely. ❝ I had not intended to disappoint you, nor turn down the prospect of friendship. ❞ Inhale, exhale. ❝ This is simply a matter I'm not very knowledgeable on. ❞ I just worry that I'd be more effort than it's worth.
❝ I just.. ❞ And the words catch in his throat. ❝ ..You're dismissed, Prosecutor Gavin. ❞
"...Ah." Of course. Klavier weakly chuckled, tilting his head back as he absorbed the answer. Well, Miles could have let him down a lot more gently. But, at least he was straight forward - Klavier will give him that. Not many people are willing to be straight forward.
"That's...It is what it is, Ja? I'm not too upset about your answer, Herr roter Anzug." But by his quivering tone, he was not too upset - yes. He was very upset. But he'd rather not acknowledge it - it'd be bad for his image.
He moved to sit up, back facing Miles just so he could gather himself together. It didn't take long - it was effortless as he soon stood back up, adjusting his blazer and chain as he turned back to Miles with a charismatic smile.
"Forget about it - let's do that." He clicked his fingers, soon pointing to the other.
"In fact, from now on I'll only approach you if it involves work matters, so we will only have to worry about our role of boss and employee, respectively. No friendship. How does that sound?"
It sounds terrible, to Klavier. Too extreme. Though truthfully, he'd prefer no contact entirely over not being able to get Miles' attention outside of serious discussions. But Klavier does want to give him that power of choice, believing that it'd be for the best if Mr Chief Prosecutor himself decides.

@procksecutor - continued from here!
In some respects, Phoenix had finished what he'd set out to do. That was, what he'd put his mind to when he entered law school. He'd met Edgeworth again, he'd gotten to the bottom of the 'demon prosecutor,' and he'd learned much from Mia along the way. He'd stood up for those who lacked a voice, just as he had, and he'd succeeded in bringing them justice. But even knowing this, it was difficult to accept that his badge was gone. Was he really to accept that his law career was a short, three-year stint in his life? That all of the good he'd have done in the courtroom was limited only to that brief time?
Maybe it was time to make way for the newbies. He had to clear the stage for the rookies who were just establishing a name for themselves, though one could easily be mistaken for believing that he still fit in that category when he was disbarred. As difficult as this may be to accept, the deterioration of the justice system, flawed as it was already, was even more difficult to swallow.
It was progressing, alright. In a direction where underhandedness was a norm more than an outlier. Where people's faiths were shaken, and only rattled further with each case. Accepting that change, as someone who had spent his short career fighting it, was difficult. He looked past the stand and towards the judge's seat, beyond the young prosecutor. It was a shame to see someone so young had already resigned himself to the direction things were headed in. Or unaware, perhaps? Purposefully blinded, even.
A hand settled on his shoulder, padded with the sherpa lining of his hoodie. His own hands remained in his pockets. “Yeah. Guess you're right,” he agreed, managing all the nonchalance he could in spite of the personal nature of the subject. He could claim to himself and others as much as he wanted that he was over it, but this didn't make it any easier to believe. “I wouldn't say I don't have to worry about it anymore, though.” His gaze lowered, the brim of his blue beanie shadowing his eyes. “It affects everyone, the way things turn out here. You've seen the stories.” It was a shame, having to bring Trucy up through this. To have to turn on the news and see more cases each time that people cited as malpractice. People's lives were being made worse by this, even cut short...
“But I doubt that means much to you, coming from me.”
