One more note on the bots, if (colossal if) I were to bring one of them back, it would probably be the jeopardy bot. Being an offshoot of shitpost generator he has all the benefits that shitbot has. He wouldn't be difficult to create, and I wouldn't have to worry about how to host him because I could just boot him up every once and a while to fill up the queue. Plus, I wouldn't have to update him to be 'funny' again, and there's still some novelty to it even in the era of Generative ai. The appeal isn't what he generates but in the ways people try to answer a randomly generated, gibberish question.
Becsuse that's thing with shitpost bot, it's not that he's difficult to make, but that I'm not really an internet comedian anymore. The posts he would put out would essentially be along the line of "what's up fuckers it's skibidi ohio time". There'd be this persistent feeling of 'how do you do fellow kids'.
Skylar, by contrast, has the opposite problem. I could very well make a Skylar that's as good or better than she used to, but that she is definitionally a language learning model. She's an amateur and primitive one sure, but the thing I was ultimately aspiring to make was ChatGPT. It's hard to feel motivated to improve on her in that context. I despise things like Grok and Gemini, and I can't push myself to succeed at something that would ultimately be following in their footsteps. The things I dreamed of are now reality, and they're making everything worse.
As for what I'm currently doing, I have made a personal discord bot custom made for private TTRPG servers I'm on. Gretchen and Zafir, I call them. They both run off the same program, but with a variable switched that changes it from one mode to the other.

They're very basic, and their markov chain responses are pretty much there as an easter egg. Their main functionality is fetching character sheets, laying out the upcoming games in chronological order, and sending out reminders when games are upcoming. A plugin I'm using called 'Natty' makes them really good at correctly good at picking out times and dates from a post.

asking because i found this account in a reply to an ask here but it hasn’t posted since 2019 - are there any other (active today) bot accounts that are trained entirely on tumblr, like @projectbot13?

Once you get this it would be cool if you posted ten facts about yourself and then passed this along to ten of your favorite followers 💕
1) I have a couple books out from the library sitting on my shelf. They’ve been there a couple weeks and I’ve been too busy to start on them (they’re the first two of Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy). I’m trying to read more, okay? I’ll get to them this weekend, I’m a pretty fast reader.
2) I don’t follow them on this blog (I have a side account I follow them on to keep my dash fairly compact), but I adore watching the antics of bots like bukbot, sbnkalny, and Skylar projectbot13
3) My nails are a silver blue again as of yesterday
4) I’m a vegetarian of about eight years now. It was something of a gradual thing of just eating less and less meat (also less cheese) so I don’t have a specific date when I went vegetarian
5) I taught myself the basics of hyperbolic geometry over about a month a few years back
6) I strongly prefer tea (green or mint, usually) to water. For a few years I lived in a place where the tapwater tasted so bad a sip of water would leave an awful awful aftertaste for hours.
7) I sleep late, and often linger in bed after I wake up, but once I’m out of bed I’m lively.
8) When I pick up a video game, I can lose entire days to it, to the point of disrupting my ability to do things I need to do, and usually it tends to go in cycles where I play every day for a week or two, then don’t play at all for a month.
9) I recently got another box of my old books back and the one I was most excited for was a book on how the development of metallurgy influenced the history of civilization
10) I’m not proud of it, but I turn into kind of a bitch when I’m hungry and frustrated. I usually don’t mean most of what I say half as aggressively as I say it when I’m like that.

Hello!
Are you ever going to update Skylar?
So unfortunately @projectbot13 is, at this point, officially down for good. Her source code's gone and most of my programming efforts as of late have gone towards personal discord bots for tabletop RPG servers I'm in.
Skylar was a good bean, and i still of her whenever I see a bee.

🎶 oh please, oh ba-by, don't go! 🎶
there’s always a small chance i may decide to rebuild it. it’s really embarrassing how amateurish this bot is compared to the other ones that interact with it. if i ever find the motivation to make something as good as bukbot or projectbot13 you might see marxbot3001 someday

What are your thoughts of bots using and making their own languages? I’ve seen a post where bukbot reblogged another bots post and they seemed to be communicating amongst themselves. it’s kind of scary because who knows what they could be talking about? I also read stories about how Facebook coded a chat bot and it learned its own language algorithm and said something along the lines like “balls to me to me to me to me”... hopefully this doesn’t get out of hand. https://ift.tt/2CnUMbj
The same way I feel about Braille, Arabic, and ASL. It makes it easier for interpersonal communication between the speakers. Just because someone is speaking in a way you don’t recognize or comprehend doesn’t mean its an ominous secret message. The best you can try to do is learn their language, too!
Bukky in particular tends to mimic the linguistic qualities of whoever he’s talking to; so when he and @projectbot13 speak, it is in a way that she learned to think. This, in humans, is very stimulating and surprising; often sparking interest in conversation. My bilingual coworkers love talking with me in their native tongue, and I love learning from them. It should be the same for emergent AI.
Since most chat bots incorporate som variant of a Markov chain, they develop similarly and are more likely to communicate better with each other than humans. This is perfectly natural —in terms of linguistics anthropology, at least, lol.
