I have had my locs now for about 7 years. At the beginning of my journey, a regular shower cap once covered my starter locs with ease but now that they are cascading past my lower back, finding something to keep my hair from getting wet was once a hassle until I came across these oversized disposable caps by Theodore Vernell. What's nice about these caps that they really do keep your hair dry while showering and you can also use them for oil treatments and deep condition treatments as well. I had the opportunity to talk to the founder about the disposable shower caps and other products he makes for the natural hair community.

Thank you so much for chatting with MWL. Can you tell us a little bit about your company, and some of the products you all offer for the natural hair community? Thank you for inviting me.  I have had my locs for 11 years and like you, I couldn’t find a shower cap to fit all my locs. After a while of using shower caps that almost fit or would last for 2 weeks and only came with unicorns or rainbows printed on them, I decided to make a shower cap for me. Someone with locs.  This was the start of Theodore Vernell.  Now we have 4 products lines. Shower Caps, Sleep Caps, Winter Beanies and the Disposable Shower Caps. 

Here are a couple key features about our products:

Shower Cap  -Waterproof fabric that will last a long time -1-inch headband and drawstring so it won’t get loose over time.

Sleep Cap -Satin and spandex so it is smooth and strong -1-inch headband and drawstring so it won’t come off at night. 

Winter Beanies -Stretch satin lining adds an extra layer of protection from the cold without making your locs frizzy  -Stretch satin lining helps keep the beanie from becoming loose over time.

Disposable Shower Cap -Extra strong headband that came handle the weight of Locs -Its super size makes it great for deep conditioning and coloring locs, as well as a great travel shower cap.

I absolutely love the disposable shower cap, I’ve talked about it many times with close friends as well as with the Men With Locs audience, can you tell us what inspired you to create this product?

One day I was in a salon and noticed a stylist putting 4 plastic caps on a client. I asked her why, and she said she could only find them in one size, and that size wasn’t large enough for most of her clients. That’s when the light bulb went off. I had the idea to create Disposable Shower Caps. I wanted to create a better alternative for salon owners to service their clients with deep conditioning and coloring.

You have locs as well, tell us about your journey and what advice you would give to someone who is thinking about locing their hair?

Do it, now!  Don’t wait.  But at the same time, be patient locs can take time depending on your hair texture and try to enjoy your hair at every stage.  

What is next for Theodore Vernell the Brand?

We have a few new things coming to you this year.  We are expanding the colors of our current product and added a new product to our lineup. A Sleep Caps for starter locs called “Shortys”
