wait. people are complaining because its $6 a month? nah.
EDIT: to clarify, this is merely about the price (which i understand is small to me, but due to exchange rates etc. can be more for others) not the principal of charging for a service that was already free.

followup - the case of tiktok and zlibrary
i think a potential rejoinder to that piracy post is that the point of obscurity isn't to avoid discovery by the feds (impossible, even with private word of mouth), but to keep the scale small enough that it's not worth the effort to suppress.
an example brought up in a few replies is the case of ZLibrary, which hosts a large collection of pirated ebooks. the story goes, there were widely circulating TikTok posts promoting ZLibrary. ZLibrary became very popular. not long after, the US justice system moved to seize its domain names, meaning that if you typed in the URL to ZLibrary, the DNS (Domain Name System) would not direct you to ZLibrary's servers, but to a page saying the feds had seized this domain.
(this can be compared with the more standard practice of ordering ISPs to block a domain. in this case, the DNS registration is untouched, but your ISP will intercept requests to that domain, usually serving a blank page instead. this is easy to bypass using a VPN. in the ZLibrary case, the US government actually overwrote the DNS records, so nobody could obtain the IP address of ZLibrary from that particular URL anymore.)
imo there is no question that the feds knew about ZLibrary before it got popular on TikTok. however, you could still argue that they would not have been so quick to seize its domains if ZLibrary had been less popular. (not 100% sure if that's true. it takes time for the courts to make their move.)
but that's not the end of the story. subsequently, ZLibrary came back under a variety of domains - and also over the I2P and Tor anonymisation networks, which do not rely on the DNS. It was also backed up by the "Anna's Archive" project. if you want to download a book from ZLibrary today... it's not even hard. you can literally just get the current URLs on Wikipedia.
so if the story of ZLibrary demonstrates anything, it is that to some extent, the domain name system was a vulnerability. but only to some extent. because the site can register new domains faster than the feds can squash them. as long as the servers remain out of reach of the feds, domains can change, and proxies can be established.
this is all by design. the internet was invented to route around obstructions (for example, a computer getting blown up by a nuclear bomb). the web and the DNS, less so - but while it's mildly inconvenient to have to find a new URL for ZLibrary, it's not a show-stopper.
so i reckon if anything the case of ZLibrary demonstrates that with the right system design, even when the feds make their move, it's possible to bounce back. TikTok did not kill ZLibrary, at most they just tripped it up for a bit.

Another "Introduction to Piracy" post
There's a few of these going round but they can be dense, spread different information through different reblog chains, and other such impracticalities, so here's a fresh, quick & simple one.
1) Necessary Software
You're going to want two things: a VPN* and a Torrent client. Personally I recommend Mullvad for the former - flat charge of €5/month pay-as-you-go, unlimited data and solid speed, very privacy-focused - and qBitTorrent for the latter.
Once you've installed both of those, you should open qBitTorrent and make sure it only runs through the VPN's internet connection: open Tools in the top bar, then Options->Advanced, and select Mullvad from the Network Interface drop-down box.
*For those unaware, a Virtual Private Network routes your Internet connection through a proxy server and then encrypts it, hiding your activity from your ISP and giving any sites you visit the impression that you're based in whatever country the proxy server is.
2) Finding your desired content
There are many sources of pirated content out there on the Internet, and you can find an awful lot of it on 1337x.to, but personally I always consult the FMHY.net directory, a site dedicated to cataloguing how to find different content by type - films, games, programs etc. If you're worried about the safety of downloading these things, risk of malware and such, honestly you don't really need to be these days - any of the dedicated sites & repositories listed on FMHY should be safe, and if you're going to a general-purpose one like 1337x then as long as the file you want lists a decent number of prior downloads it'll most likely be fine (just avoid The Pirate Bay these days, it is not the haven it was 20 years ago).
3) Downloads
Now, content generally comes in one of two forms: either a direct download, or a torrent. A direct download is exactly what it sounds like, you just receive a copy of the files you want (usually packaged in a ZIP file).
Torrents are a little different. With those, you download a .torrent file, then you open up your torrent client and add it there, then tell it where to save the actual content you want. Torrents are a peer-to-peer download system, meaning instead of downloading the whole file from a specific server you're downloading many parts from everyone else who's previously downloaded it (and is running their torrent client) - this means that how long it takes is entirely dependent on how popular the content in question is, so something obscure and old might take a very long time while a popular new release might be limited only by your internet speed. It also means that you should really keep the .torrent file once your download is finished to help everyone else, an act known as seeding; the alternative, to delete it once you've finished, is known as leeching, and it doesn't harm you but it's generally considered rather impolite.
I think that covers everything, if anyone has any questions or suggestions feel free to say so and I'll update this as needed, until then - hoist your black flag and have fun!

Hi do u have some links to watch DWD?
i'm gonna rattle off a list of places that will for sure have links up within an hour of the film's release (although they'll be cam quality for now, but within a day, hd quality should be up)
torrent sites (if you live in a country where you can sneakily use a vpn to download: opera has an in built free vpn option)
• pirate bay
• popcorntime (you can both watch and/or download here)
• yify
• otorrent
streaming
• gomovies (best one and my most preferred one)
• fmovies
• 123movies
• tvseries
im not gonna put up links because the links keep changing but just google the names and look for proxy lists to see which link works
i also know that @daisiesonafield-blog will be putting up links once it's out
also, if i get a chance to and have the time to, i'll download it myself and put it up as a google drive or dropbox link :)

hi! sorry to bother but i had a question about the hypmic lives? i recently got back into the fandom after several years and i wanted to know if there was a general set amount of time we have to wait before the dvds for the lives are for sale? and if its possible to buy any of the previous ones?
hii first of all welcome back to the pit fandom!
you are in the right place with this question bc i definitely know a thing or two about this <- guy who owns multiple copies of every live lol (except the solo lives bc oh god that was expensive)
this'll get long so answer goes under the cut
to start: i am a strong supporter of pirating media you cannot feasibly access otherwise, so don't hesitate to do that. i can't tell you where to actually find the lives online bc i personally do enjoy collecting the physical copies of the lives and throwing my money at the franchise, so i have no idea. but i'm sure they're all out there somewhere if you want to look!
if you are interested in buying them, they'll usually be out within a year of the actual lives taking place. 9th live just released a few weeks back, and 9th live took place nearly a year before that, so sometimes it can be a pretty long wait
10th live may be a somewhat special case because it's the first time we've had multi-angle cameras for the livestream, and i don't know how or if they'll include those on the dvds? i've heard each day is like a 3hr live as well so i'm sure it'll be a big (and pricey) thing even if they don't do anything with the multi-angle camera stuff
in short: i would expect 10th live dvds to be out in about a year, and i would personally guess that they'll cost in the neighborhood of 20k yen at least
(zero out was 16,830 yen on amiami, same price for dvd and bluray, and it seems to me like 10th live is an even bigger live... so i'm expecting it to be more expensive)
if you want to watch 10th live through an official avenue and don't want to wait, it is currently still available for streaming on abema. you can pay for the stream and watch it as many times as you want until the 14th (so there's only a few days left of that) but you'll need a vpn for it to be available in your area (unless you happen to live in japan)
as for the previous lives!
9th live is actually still available on amiami, where i usually get my lives. neither the bluray nor dvd is sold out yet, so you can pick it up that way (but again they are 16,830 yen each)
for older lives, you can generally find them on proxy sites (again, that's only assuming you don't live in japan)
personally i use fromjapan as my proxy. i don't think it's necessarily better than other proxies out there, but it's the one officially affiliated with hypster, which is what i'm mostly buying from lol, so it was just more convenient for me to set up an account there
you can typically find listings for the older lives for quite cheap, sometimes you can even find big lots containing all or most of the lives (usually some cds as well) for a really good price
they also sometimes pop up on mandarake, but won't necessarily be cheapest there
although the prices can be really low (like less than 2k for some lives; for example i just did a quick search and see a copy of six shots for literally only 1,150 yen) keep in mind that there will be shipping! so factor that into your budget as well
one tip on searching, do your searches in japanese (for example search for "ヒプノシスマイク" instead of "hypnosis mic") because sometimes a lot of things don't show up when you search in english. that's the case on fromjapan at least, not sure about other proxies
another tip is do not buy from sites like otaku republic... or whatever it's called, i don't really remember. basically even with expensive overseas shipping, proxies are still so much cheaper, in my experience, than these other sites that mark up prices to absurd rates. like i'll see these english sites selling a doujin for 10,000 yen that you could get for literally 500 yen elsewhere, it's absurd
but ahem yeah tl;dr
10th live dvds should be out in about a year
10th live stream can still be purchased on abema for viewing until the 14th
9th live still available on amiami (possibly elsewhere as well)
older lives best bought through a proxy (fromjapan or whichever you prefer)
keep international shipping in mind if you do not live in japan!
1st live does not exist btw*
2nd and 3rd live are bundled together on one dvd
*like there is no published dvd of it, some footage has been released as part of anniversary celebrations though i'm not sure if that's still available... i'm sure it's somewhere!

I think I’ve only read batman year one and the long halloween
Which comic series would you recommend I read next to get a better understanding of the batman lore?
oh i don’t feel qualified to answer this but i will Try My Best…. let’s see… there’s this reading guide that i rely on very heavily and goes into separate guides for each of the members of the batfam. but!! it also has some general batfam comics recommendations at the start.
i haven’t read all of those, but out of those that i have read and recommend for the lore, there’s batman: contagion, no man’s land (it is a massive event but really really great, can’t recommend enough), and bruce wayne: murderer?/bruce wayne: fugitive. but those do kind of catapult you straight into it. no man’s land is better on that front i think though (as in like. explaining and setting the scene)
i’m not sure if you mean like. specifically batman/bruce lore? because i only interact with him by proxy of those major events and also my reading for tim. doing my readings for tim is largely how i got introduced into it. there is a section for bruce in that guide though! and if you’re going for a general batman/batfam/gotham thing, i would still recommend the guide. i use the tim guide for myself and it’s great!
and i know you didn’t ask BUT i’ll put it out there anyway. for reading comics, i shamelessly pirate and read all of mine online here.
i use a basic adblocker extension on my phone and it’s never given me any issues with popups etc etc but i don’t know what it’s like without the adblocker. still it’s better than a few of the other comic sites i’ve been to, at least imo!
i hope that was a little bit helpful! 🫶🫶

okay im just now getting into w101 fanfic even tho ive had an account since 2008.
FIRST OF ALL.
holy shit did you know theres an official wizard101 fanfic page STILL HOSTED ON THEIR SITE updated as recently as 3 years ago. what the hell
your nb wizard fic where they become a prof wrenched my heart open. belladonna crisp trans headcanon is so goddamn real
cantrips. like. okay. so. let me explain this one: i just got back into the game like a month ago and cantrips BLEW MY MIND. as a kid i LOVED the spell quests where the rules of w101 were seemingly broken and spells were cast outside of battle. it always felt like early w101 "deep lore" was about the spell circles -- go into Dalea Falmea's tower with the classic textures, for example, and there's a really fascinating visual that represents all the possible points of the like... swinging compass thing. it got removed in the new texture rerelease but it's super striking! we see the spell circle ALL THE TIME and we have NO IDEA what the symbols on it mean and why and then when cantrips were introduced and we can just. DO ANY MAGIC ANYWHERE?????? that blew my mind is there fanfic with cantrips or that examines spell circles (more spell circle headcanons: the only reason such a young wizard is allowed to fight monsters is because the spell circle stops these beasts from tearing them limb from limb, instead forcing them to fight thru the magical proxies of cards. another hc: being sent back to a world's hub when you run out of HP is the spell circle activating a failsafe for you.) (be interesting to see a p101 fic which deals w the pirate like. PERSONALLY SMACKING PEOPLE AROUND vs the wizard w their protective magics... that always interested me) but yeah! cantrips, archmastery, all the Weird Edge-case Lore
wizard101 fanfic is so real im gonna post a homestuck crossover soon
HI <- saw this ask and forgot to respond/post it!
YEAH .
I've never actually checked out the official fanfic page!
unfortunately i have memory issues so i cant remember if/when i wrote this fic but based if i did
I Also Love The Edgecase lore and the stuff abt the like, constraints of the game. which i know you can easily bypass in fanfic (like saying the pet snacks are objects, not cards, etc) but its FUN to work with a unique and interesting system already implemented in the game as the structure of this universe. Also YEAH . pirate101 fics are so different bc when i write them i haven't really written any with gunslingers so its all Up Close and personal fighting (i have a pirate101 tag i think you can look through for that, also one extended fic on my Ao3 for it)
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS POST THAT HOMESTUCK CROSSOVER FUCK YEAH

"I want to watch this but it's not available on the streaming platform I use :(" "where can I watch this omg" "maybe I'll buy an X subscription after all" I'm begging you learn how to torrent...
Actually more specific instructions BC it's 2023 no one should be paying for TV anymore
1) Download vuze bittorrent client (They have an android app as well as windows so you can torrent movies/music etc on your phone if you want)
2) Type in a pirating site of your choice into a search engine followed by the word "proxy" e.g. limetorrents, rarbg, pirate (You'll find a favourite the more you use them)
3) Once you find a link that works save it and you can keep using it as long as it doesn't get taken down. I've been using the same one for months
4) Type in the movie/TV show/video game etc. you want to download and find one with a good number of seeds (This is the number of people who will share the file with you making the download faster) you can check for additional information such as subtitles and language etc.
5) Open the torrent link in your bittorrent client (e.g. vuze) and watch it download. Congrats you are now a pirate!
6) Cancel all your unnecessary subscriptions... You are free at last...
ALSO: it's important to have a good adblocker extension and an antivirus installed because there can sometimes be fishy links (Although in my experience the risk is greatly exaggerated even on sites like piratebay)
It's also recommended to use a VPN because sometimes pirating sites won't work if you don't have one active. Many antiviruses have free VPNs as standard that you can switch on whilst you sail the seas and switch off automatically once the data allowance is reached.
