Multiple KH Characters and Their Favorite Video Games!

Destiny Island Trio: 

Sora: Fighting games- preferably Smash. He mains himself main characters (Mario, Link, Kirby, FE protags). He sucks. He is the guy who button mashes and corners players to beat the hell out of them. 

Riku: Fighting games- preferably Tekken or Street Fighter. Mains Jin or Lee. Attempts to be strategic but gets way too competitive fast and is busy mashing all the buttons off the controller. 

Kairi: Way too good at fighting games. But she’d probably play lots of Pokemon or monster collecting games. She has many setups that are both competitive or just fun ones for a fun challenge. 

Sea Salt Family: 

Roxas: Persona fanboy. He hasn’t played 1-2 but he can’t pick a favorite between 3-5. Plays all the spinoffs or has someone else play them for him. His favorite characters are the protagonists. Hears jazz music and assumes this is a Persona 5 reference. 

Xion: Resident DMC and Souls-like player. Girl is a monster on the controllers despite being just being born. The way she can effortlessly combo and dodge all attacks makes her a fearsome opponent. 

Axel: Mario Kart. Axel is pretty average at video games (unless they’re like, retro or arcade) but Mario Kart? He’s on it like Donkey Kong. He mains Funky Kong. 

Saix: He has two wolves inside him- the logical gamer and the second, more absurd gamer. Sometimes he wants to unwind, so he might pick up a basic platformer like Mario or Sonic, but on the other side- he’s a menace in a Warriors game. He’s hacking and slashing. He’s killing everyone in his path. Also, he’s a completionist.  He has to get the best markings and everything. Won’t settle for less. 

Wayfinder Trio: 

Terra: Minecraft and fighting games. He tries his best lmao. He’s just got pretty big hands so often he messes up with combos but he’s also pretty impatient and tends to spam certain moves.

Aqua: Rhythm games definitely. Watch her effortlessly get all perfect scores in one try. Even the hardest OSU! map has nothing on Aqua. She also kicks ass at fighting games. 

Ventus: He likes Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Mario Party. He always loses at almost any game against his friends though. 

Bonus Characters: 

Namine: I feel like she enjoys visual novels and Okami. She really loves aesthetic games and is a patient player. 

Xemnas: does not play video games beyond Candy Crush or Solitaire. You kids and your “Splatoons” or “Bayonettas”, go pick up an old Final Fantasy game smh. 

Xigbar: Call of Duty. Fortnite. PUBG. Overwatch. He’s a menace and plays all sorts of FPS games. His sniping abilities IRL translate very well into games. Also likes the Hitman games. 

Vexen: Bookworm and civilization manager games. He’s big on Age of Empires and is a top talent within the community. He loves playing as the Vikings or Mayans for competitive play. He’s also made many custom maps. 

Zexion: Tower Defense managers and Ace Attorney. He loves deducing the crime or finding the best way to defend his base with the minimum amount of units possible. 

Xaldin: He doesn’t play games (lie). He plays romantic visual novels. Plays all kinds of them. Otomes too. He is a lonely man. Also loves cooking games. 

Lexaeus: farming games. He just has a fun time playing Story of Seasons. Rune Factory is nice too but he prefers SoS because he loves the farming aspect more. 

Demyx: Guitar Hero. No argument. This man did all the crazy achievements and was going at it for days.

Luxord: Yeah yeah solitaire and gambling- have you considered he loves playing the Yakuza games? Well now you do. He loves the games dearly and cherishes them and likes to be the biggest Yakuza on the block. Also yeah, he plays lot of gacha games. 

Marluxia: Doesn’t really play video games, but he’d most likely play some horror games with Larxene or town management games. 

Larxene: Horror games or multiplayer games where she can troll people. Banned from multiple servers and people refuse to play with her minus Marluxia. Aesthetically though she loves Trish from DMC and thinks Vergil is number one.

"shut up, man." jay groans as he throws off his phone to the side of the couch after losing yet another solo game, two fingers coming up to massage the bridge of his nose. that, add to that the fact that she has been radio silent for the past week. again.

he didn't know why notursniper was stressing him out so much. he didn't even know her.

well, he kind of did. he knew that she preferred having one assault rifle and one sniper on hand, specifically the awm. that was her favorite sniper. but if that wasn't available, she'd settle for a kar98 even though she thinks it "recoils like a motherfucker." her words, not his. from the several matches they've had since the day they made up, he also observed that she hated the laser attachment the most, and that her—

"dear lord, he's gone insane." he hears his other best friend mumble. he doesn't even realize that he's already smiling, but if he were to go by the looks that heeseung and ni-ki gave him, he knows he HAS gone insane.

he'd justify that he had good reasons of going insane. she just has her way with words.

"you know, if you're so bothered by her absence, just ask her for her number.. or twitter. or something. instead of logging in just to check if your little pubg girlfriend messaged you. god, you're so unbelievably bitchless." heeseung snorts as he leaves off all their dishes in the sink.

jay mulls over heeseung's words before he reaches for his phone anxiously typing up another casual "hey, wanna game?" after his last message to see if notursniper would reply any time soon.

ding. his phone ringed and jay couldn't be any quicker to check if it was her.

notursniper: hey loser. missed me?

god was he flustered. he must've looked like a complete desperate idiot to her but of course, he wasn't going to let her know. he wasn't going to let her know that he's been anxious for about a week, worried that she might have thought he still hated her when he was just absorbed in the game. he wasn't going to let her know that every time he'd play, he'd give her cute little icon a stare first, and that her message was the first thing he'd look for each time he'd log in to pubg. he's not letting her know any of that.

killstrike: shut up

notursniper: ? you're the one that's been messaging me non-stop since last week

killstrike: i was just looking for a partner to help me rank up that's all haha

notursniper: didn't you tell me i'm shit at sniping 🤨

did i just... apologize? again? that was not like him. in fact, that was the exact opposite of how jay is. his best friends could be his witness to his stubbornness and inability to back down from a fight. but something about the way she talked to him was so different. she matched his energy and for once, he thinks he's finally met his match.

after a few days of gaming together, jay eventually managed to ask for a daily schedule where she'd be available so they could meet so he could "rank up" when in reality he just really wanted to talk to her as often as possible. more and more, he'd be enamored by how good she was at the game and how she's so attentive to what he needs. aside from the constant insults and teasing that would admittedly get him irked, he thinks he's grown attached to her. and that was the start of his summer-long pubg adventure with notursniper.

"ah, she was sick too.. is it fever season?" he mutters to himself, brows slightly meeting together as he stares at your picture.

you were sat on the bed, looking at your phone while your hand covered your nose with tissue. even with your back turned to the camera, you're still beautiful. it must be fun to be your friend. jay wonders how nice your personality must be. were you actually as shy as the rumors say? or did you only reserve your humor and brightness for your close friends?

"dude, you better stop staring and start texting. at this rate, you really won't get to y/n before we all graduate." sunghoon says after peeking at jay's phone, plopping himself down the couch, turning on the tv.

sunghoon's remark returns the frown back on jay's face, earning the younger a throwpillow to the face. "you better shut up if you don't want him kicking you out his condo." heeseung butts in as usual and grabs the pillow before softly swinging it back to the couch. the tv quickly becomes white noise along with his bestfriends' voices as he glosses over sunghoon's words.

senior year's starting in a week and he hasn't made a single progress with the quiet girl of his class. he's known you since the start of the second semester of sophomore year. he remembers it all vividly. he was late to the first day of class after holiday break and you were staring at the bulletin board, fingers gently tracing on the paper. you were wearing a cream-colored cardigan and you had ribbons tied to your ponytail. since then, he nicknamed you as "ribbon girl."

Doors....doors.....doors

So this post is dedicated to.... doors. I want to highlight their particular function in video gaming, and how judging a door’s particular coding can determine the function of a whole game.

So let’s go back to Goldeneye. Most of the doors that aren’t password locked open really quick, like space-ship doors. Subsequently there isn’t much play-time behind locked doors (except in a few levels). You are rushing from room to room looking for the next conflict. There is mines and traps in terms of maybe gating someone, but with no peek or cover feature, there isn’t much more than rush n’ clear.

Halo is another game guilty of this, and you notice the games heavier in quicker default doors, tend to have less decision making in their combat. Less sniping, less space, more rushing and spraying over and over again (usually enticing campers).

Titanfall is another one with very little in the way of locked doors. I find it ironic that in the future they can have robots as tall as buildings, but not doors that lock.

Battlefield (modern) is an interesting in-between. Featuring destructible environments, it allows players to attempt to hold up places, but since most emphasis is on objective orientated gameplay, it can be easy to form down and not find anyone interested enough to spring your traps.... which is boring.

Rainbow Six first pioneered this type of gameplay in Black Arrow. Now painfully outdated, it’s hard to see how it was the turning point of duck and cover/room siege gameplay, but it was. It was the first of its kind.

Then you have the PUBG types which I’m sorry to say it, but your game is nothing more than Counter-Strike on steroids without a money system. (If payday didn’t exist we’d still have new Counter-Strikes) PUBG like Counter Strike featured a team elimination system of one-life, sometimes objective based gameplay before development split IP into separate game. The door system in PUBG works like Battlefield, doors can be shut or opened, and parts of doors can be destroyed allowing attackers to breach without fully opening doors.

Bad Company 2 was the first Battlefield to feature fully destructible, functioning environments. Still a hallmark for that reason, it set a gold standard for what was expected of a fully destructible environment; the whole thing can be leveled.

Before this you had the Red Faction games, going back to Nintendo 64. This game series, though ugly now, pioneered destructible environments as well as doors.

Much of the duck n’ cover system likely started when you had House of The Dead games and Time Crisis in arcades. Though they were on-rails, it’s easy to see how open-world integration of these systems were likely inspired by on-rails shooters. (Some other notables, Alien, and Jurassic Park)

Doors seem to be a definitive factor in determining the gameplay that occurs. It can be a more immersive feature for some games and for others it can detract from the overall gameplay.

So to close, before you make a buying decision on a game, check it like you would a house. If the doors are no good, chances are you won’t enjoy your time there (Sorry, Jim)

Review: Call of Duty: Warzone (2022)

Call of Duty: Warzone – A Battle Royale of Corporate Greed and Brain-Dead Bandwagon Jumping

You know what the world needed? Another battle royale game. I mean, with the likes of Fortnite, PUBG, and Apex Legends, it's not like we were already drowning in a sea of last-man-standing titles. And who better to bring us this fresh and innovative experience than the masterminds at Activision, a company that's about as in touch with their customers as a blindfolded lumberjack at a crowded dance party?

Call of Duty: Warzone is Activision's latest attempt to cash in on the success of others by slapping a shiny new coat of paint on a tired and overused concept. Congratulations, you've taken the mind-numbingly repetitive formula of "drop, loot, shoot" and turned it into a soulless cash cow, complete with the most aggressive microtransaction marketplace this side of Candy Crush.

Speaking of microtransactions, remember when you could earn cool stuff in-game by actually playing the game? Yeah, those days are long gone. In Warzone, you can spend your hard-earned money to buy overpriced skins and weapon blueprints that do little more than show off your lack of financial responsibility. But hey, at least you look good while getting sniped from 300 meters away by some kid who's probably playing on his mom's laptop.

Let's not forget that this is a Call of Duty game, and with that comes the usual war propaganda. Activision has seemingly made it their mission to crank out a new title every year, each one an opportunity to pander to a fanbase that apparently can't get enough of shooting vaguely foreign bad guys in the face. It's like they're allergic to original ideas and just keep recycling the same old tropes over and over again. But hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

Despite all its flaws, Warzone does have one thing going for it: the game looks fantastic. The graphics are top-notch, and the map is huge and detailed. But that's like saying the Titanic was an impressive boat – it doesn't mean much when the whole thing is a disaster.

So, if you're the kind of person who enjoys throwing money at a screen for a fleeting sense of accomplishment, or you just can't get enough of the same generic shooter experience year after year, then Call of Duty: Warzone is right up your alley. As for me, I'll be over here praying for the day when game developers stop trying to milk every last penny out of their customers and start making games that are actually fun to play.

after a tough day of contributing absolutely nothing to the greater good of society, jay decides to do what men like him choose to do to relieve stress: by playing a high-stress game.

what he wasn't expecting, though, was to get a snarky partner who would actually reciprocate his angry chats (as a result of his bad temper) and shit-talk him back. like what they're doing right now.

jay was pissed. there's no way he's losing this duo match. it's down to three teams and he can't risk losing more points for his rank when he's so close to reaching crown four, so he breathes in and out, trying his utmost best not to let the arrogant demeanor of his partner get on all of his nerves. notursniper heals him and fends off two players while he heals, leaving just one more team. 

you got this. you got this. jay internally chants before a barrage of shots echo from his phone's speaker. he's too busy to look for the enemy to notice his partner's been knocked down. the motherfucker's proning. the circle's getting smaller and jay's getting anxious over the constant request for healing when all of a sudden:

"fuck!" jay shouts in frustration, watching the loading screen as the game demotes him from crown five to regular crown rank. "great. that's just great." in the heat of his frustration, jay adds notursniper just to be able to message them— and as soon as he sees them added to his "friends" list, jongseong taps his frustrations away.

impulsive by nature, jay taps a few times and gets so close to removing user notursniper as their pubg friend but he hums in thought. having a higher rank meant having more skilled enemies and he's never seemed to get past top 40 players without dying, so it was a miracle he got until the top 2 tonight. his teammate's shit-talking aside, he'd say they were actually really good.

"what?" his own intrusive thoughts snaps him back to the real world, to see that she actually removed him as an in-game friend. what the fuck? in a span of panic, he tried to add them again. 

a few days pass by but alas, no response from her. jay does not know why he's itching to check on his phone every now and then. heeseung and sunghoon don't even want to question why he's been staring at phone with his brows furrowed for hours now.

it's only because they're a good player and they can help me rank up. that's it. 

soon enough, jay's routine has become waking up, going to school, and checking if user notursniper has accepted his request at every waking second of the day. the same goes for the following morning when jay anxiously opens the game again and finds one new message from a friend.
