This is a fab Irish bar that knows how to entertain and serve Guinness! I went in with my fiance on a Wed night and even on a Wed, the entertainment was buzzin'! The weekends are always chocka, but in such a good way. One of my favorites in town.
Ma Egerton's Stage Door - 9 Pudsey Street Liverpool
I was feeling it was high time I visited this pub. They had some good beers on tap, but I recently saw something about their pizza and thought I'd pop in for lunch. This pub, from 1846, named after the longest operator, Mary Egerton, has all the look and charm you'd expect from an older pub surrounded by theatres of the day, but with close proximity to the Empire Theatre now, they offer food and bev to theatre patrons and actors before and after shows. I ordered the Sean Connery, which was the Margarita Pizza. Good. Coupled with the Dick Turpin best bitter out of Cheshire, it was a really nice visit!

What? Two pubs in one!?! This place is cool! On one side you have a steam punk sort of pub with cosy upstairs rooms for small intimate gatherings, the other side is a classic old pub with curtains, warm decor and outdoor seating! I really like this place! Plenty of local taps, charm, candle light, warmth and friendly service etc. This one is high on my list for mood, ambiance and decor.
Do not attempt to adjust your phone, the floor is in fact...uneven! But that didn't stop me from having a nice chat with Sue the bar keep, laughing with my cariad and simply having a good time in this legacy pub.
Today I had the pleasure of stepping into this cosy traditional Liverpool pub on Roscoe Street, close to St. Luke's (bombed out church) and the Chinese arch. It was a fab visit to this quiet, yet talkative pub! No music, no TV, just chatter and good bevvies. They advertised this whiskey blend liqueur called Shanky's Whip, what's that you ask? A whiskey (made in Ireland) with vanilla & caramel! It was yummy! I also had a terrific citra session-Pale Ale from Scotland called Jarl. Good, really good beer! Refreshingly light, yet flavorful! If you are looking for that warm pub with unique beverages, pop on in!
Wait, I've been in Liverpool for nearly a week and my first pub visit back is a natural wine bar? Well not quite. My fiance and I had a quick one at the Vines, then decided to roam....
...we wound up poppin' in this cute cosy place on Berry St. to finish the evening. There wasn't a wine list for us to look at, but we were approached with a friendly smile and asked what we liked. Then, two great glasses of wine were delivered! We also got smoked almonds and olives. Probably the best OLIVES I EVER HAD! I found this to be a really nice, and enjoyable visit and I'm thoroughly glad we wandered in!
(I understand they do bread and breakfast in the morning)
Cool old block and pub. I've only been in once. Nice vibe, somewhat younger crowd. Today I was just riding by on my bike and saw some magical sunlight, so I stopped for a snap.
This pub is similarly described by the owner... a relaxed pub to take the weight off and chill. I popped in on a sunny, reasonably hot day and had a pint of a recent favorite of mine, the Theakston Mild. If my memory serves me, I believe they charged me 2.80. I'm pretty sure it was under 4 pounds with crisps! My visit was so relaxed, I went very skimpy on the photos, so I'll certainly have to come back! With wood paneling, plush seats and dating back to the 1800's and something, it had just the right feel so give 'em a visit.
I wish I was there at Ye Cracke, the Cavern, the Grapes, or the Jacaranda to celebrate this new offering! I mean, isn't it exciting to hum and sing a beautiful new Beatle tune in 2023!?! Well I think it is!
What do you think? Do you like it? Have any good Beatle stories to tell? If so, please share in the comments, thanks.
I was running an errand to get a passport photo for my fiance. The photo place on Renshaw needed some time as there was a queue. It was nice out, the sun was beaming, so I walked across the street to the Liffey. What I really liked about this visit, was the two old mates just reminiscing, smiling and sipping. It was such a warm moment and scene! It's one of my favorite pictures in Liverpool, really makes me think of all the great times I've had with my old, and new friends!
This pub, in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool is just what you need if you want to overhear a conversation, then join in! With just enough local cans and taps, you'll find something to satisfy your bevvie needs. Take in the quirky off beat decor, joke with the friendly barkeep/owners and leave thinking, that was more fun than repeats of the Royle Family on the telly! But seriously, it's nice to see this lively small pub in the outskirts of the big Cains Brewery Village (nothing against Cains) thriving with a fun combo of kitschy, warmth and smiles.
Since this pub is cozy, I'd suggest friending them on FB to see if they are possibly filled up with an event before heading over.
I am not affiliated with any of the pubs I post on this blog, just in it for fun.
If you did, it probably meant you were heading to the best Irish Pub in Liverpool, Pogue Mahone! Located on Seel Street, Pogue's is basically a quintessential Irish Pub featuring live music, football, Guinness, Irish Whiskey and most of all live music! I've never been in where it wasn't fun. Fresh Guinness, live music, happy patrons, great staff, warm decor, what more can you ask for? I mean, patrons sing along with the talent, shoulder to shoulder. Best mates laugh about the evening, the ladies dance, the bar keep crack jokes and all the while the patrons smile. One of, if not my favorite place in Liverpool.
It's good! Although it is a tiny bit sharper, or not quite as sweet as the real deal. I haven't looked into it, but I'm pretty sure it has less calories, certainly less filling to me. Unfortunately, this curiosity was brought on by some digestive issues and it was suggested I cut back (or limit) on big plates, greasy foods, coffee, tea and alcohol. It's ok, wake up calls are good, they ensure you continue to wake up! It was on tap in the Irish pubs in Liverpool and on tap in Dublin, so the need is there, good on ya Guinness, well done!
Years ago now, when I was about to visit Liverpool, (from the States) my adopted Grandma, Laura Slattery (a neighbor across the street) said; "Oh gosh, if you make it to Dublin, you have to go to Slattery's for me, I've been to the one in NY and Boston!" I thought, why not? Upon walking there, some guy said to me, "Oh, better not go that route." I was getting nervous. When I got there Ronnie greeted me at the door with a dripping bloody eye from a recent fight! Inside, the bar keep bitched about brexit woes and repeatedly threatened to chuck out a German group on their arses! Lastly, there was a father & son team selling hot goods from a box at the bar. It seemed like I was in a troublesome scene from Irish movie, but truly it was quite fun and exciting! The Guinness was great as was the stew. Being a legacy bar around 200 years old, I have to think there would be plenty of stories and I'm glad my neighbor mentioned it. The photos from this post come from my third visit with my good friend Brian. We had a chill visit, with some Jameson and Guinness.
