Happy One Year Publishiversary to ME!

It’s been one year since I published my first hockey RPF fic! As a little anniversary celebration, I’m going to post a bit about what I accomplished and my goals for next year.

According to my AO3 stats page, I published 32,000 words in the last year. Compared to what I wrote the year before (a VERY dry 20k thesis), this is quite a jump! And that doesn't even take into account all the discarded moments, rewritten scenes, etc.

I wrote a combination of angsty and sexy stories (usually without much overlap). This is also what I tend to read. Surprise?

I wrote one fic that was over 10k, and I wrote it for a deadline. This was a good project to see how much I can write under pressure, but it also gave me horrible insomnia for several weeks.

I wrote one fic that was 5k, and I wrote it with no deadline. I nitpicked this story much more because I had the time, and in this case, it worked out. Typically I can’t stand to go back and reread things I’ve published, but a few nights ago I managed to reread about half of this story, and I didn’t hate it! That was very exciting.

Goals for Next Year

As I reflect on what I’ve written last year, I’ve also thought about my goals and ways I’d like to improve.

Since it seems the 5k mark is a good length for me to push myself into the learning zone while also not pushing myself so hard that the story is bad, I’m going to aim to write three stories over 5k and one story over 10k. I also want to publish a story every other month.

At least two of my stories will be wlw and at least one will have a nonwhite lead or love interest.

Finally, I want to make more hrpf writer friends! I want some internet buddies to chatfic with and read drafts! (Is Twitter better for that kind of thing?) Anyway, I just fixed my anon and DM settings, so if you're interested in that kind of thing, reach out!
