Molly's clown outfit from a while back is so cute and whimsical. What was your inspiration and thought process going in? Also, would you mind sharing the pattern for it? What sort of places do you recommend to get patterns from in general? Thank you so much

Last April, I attended a lecture on the philosophy of clowning. It was all about finding joy and whimsy in life, stomping out seriousness, that sort of thing. So that was my inspiration!

For inspiration, I looked at both actual clown outfits, clown dolls, historical clowns/ pierrots/ jesters, and modern Halloween costumes. There’s lots of different areas to draw inspiration from, but for my first clown outfit, I decided to keep it simple. I went with the most basic harlequin color block style. Normally it’s a onesie, but I was into making separates at the time and didn’t have time to draft a whole new pattern.

My fabric choices were guided by what Joanns had in stock. I wanted polka dots and very colorful/ 90’s kidcore/ rainbow aesthetic. I wound up with two teal and white polka dot fat quarters, a half yard of a rainbow print, a roll of rainbow baby rick rack, and two kinds of narrow polka dot grosgrain ribbons.

I also used stash materials including red bias tape, narrow teal ribbons, solid red grosgrain ribbon and baby rick rack, white cotton fabric, red buttons, lightweight interfacing, and variegated thread.

For patterns, you don’t need any specific one. As long as you have a basic dress pattern with a puff sleeve, and a bloomer pattern, you can hack it into Mollypop’s clown separates :)

I used:

basic dress bodice, lengthened to shirt length. (Do NOT cut bodice front on the fold. Add a seam allowance at the center front to allow for splicing together the two different fabrics).

Long puffed sleeves— short ones can also be lengthened. One of each fabric. These were hemmed, trimmed with rick rack, and gathered with elastic.

A bloomers pattern and rectangular waistband to make the puffy pants. The pant legs were also hemmed and trimmed with rick rack. Then they got an external casing from red ribbon to run elastic through. Gathered top to the waistband, put a snap at center back to close.

To make the neck ruffle, I trimmed a white rectangle with more rick rack, then gathered it. Then I bound the neckline with a bit of bias cut polka dot. Another piece of red ribbon was used as a sash.

I drafted her hat from a cone. Any witch hat pattern could be used instead. I took inspiration from the “brimless” witch hats in the manga Witch Hat Atelier.

Her braids got wire braided in, just like I saw done in my sister’s school play when we were kids.

Lastly, her big smiley face sticker is from a real clown at a clown event I attended at the university :)

You also had knitted thigh high socks on, which now were wrapped around eddies hips, he pounded into you quite rapidly seeing as you actually didn't really have time to have sex at the moment. 

“I´m getting closer,” you moaned, “Eddie please” 

“I’ve gotcha baby, so, so soon,” he replied, and pressed a deep kiss to your lips. 

Just as the kiss broke and Eddie grabbed a hold of your ass, to be able to pound into you faster, there was a knock to the door. 

“Fuck, Its Steve” you said before he even said anything. 

“I´m sorry baby” Eddie said and pressed a sloppy kiss to your forehead.

“I know baby, I know” Eddie said, and ran his thumb over your slightly pouty bottom lip. “But Harrington will kill us if we ignore him to have sex”

Eddie slid out of you and you felt achingly empty as he did.

Outside clad in a Christmas sweater was Steve Harrington twisting his car keys round his fingers as he waited for someone to open the goddamn door.

“Hey man you’re here already?” Eddie said as he opened the door.

“I dunno what you’re on about,” Eddie said as he chucked on his leather jacket and some mittens, he also grabbed the bag with presents that stood packed and ready, to cover up his slightly obvious boner.

You came over with a makeup wipe, erasing your lipstick trail on Eddie, whilst smiling sheepishly at Steve.

“Cmon guys I’m not stupid,” Steve said rolling his eyes, “but can you not, when I have the kids in the car waiting.”

“Okay mom” you and Eddie said in unison.

You, Eddie and Max were tucked in close together in the backseat, whilst Steve and Dustin were sitting up front.

Dustin sang loudly along to the radio that played Santa Claus is coming to town, all whilst Steve was begging him to stop. Max, who had grown tired of their bickering, had put her headphones back on.

Eddies leaned over to you and with his lips almost against your ear he whispered:

“I’m straining so bad against my jeans, I’m starting to regret opening the door.” 

You chuckled slightly.

“I remember begging you to continue,” you whispered back.

“I’m sorry, we should have done that” Eddie said, shifting in his seat to stop his cock from rubbing against his jeans.

“If I get Steve’s car seat wet then you’re the one cleaning it up” you mumbled to him which had him chuckling before kissing you temple, mumbling a quick “I promise”

He didn’t have to, because when you got out of the car there were no stains on the seat, giving away how absolutely desperate you were for the long haired, soft eyed man beside you.

“Hey guys!!” Joyce said enthusiastically and was quick to give you all hugs and cheek kisses. “I’m so happy to have you all over.”

Inside the kitchen El and Hop were stood eating the snacks, that were put out for the guests, behind each other’s backs whilst also telling each other off for it when they caught one another red handed. 

“You two are unbelievable,” Joyce said, shaking her head fondly. “Leave some for our guests okay?” 

“Okay Joyce” El said before scurrying off with Max, both of them taking off towards Will’s room, which already seemed to have a lot of people in it.

“Hey guys, not cool, wait up!” Dustin shouted and took off after them.

“I can’t make any promises babe” Hopper said before grabbing another salted pretzel out of the bowl, putting it in his mouth.

“Guys, dig in, before it all disappears.” she said with an eyeroll. 

When she noticed that Eddie was carrying the bag of gifts she smiled sweetly at him and said: 

“Eddie, Honey you can put those under the tree.” 

“I`ll help you,” you said and grabbed his arm. 

“How’s the pant-issue?” you asked quietly as you sat down with Eddie in front of the tree.

“It’s dying down but it’s still, you know, there.” Eddie replied and put on of the gifts under the tree. “How are your own … issue?” Eddie asked, trying to be discreet about it. 

“Don’t get me started, it’s literally still dripping down my thighs.” you said, and Eddie smirked at you. 

“I wish I could help you sweetheart,” Eddie said. 

You and Eddie made your way over to the couch, you sitting down in his lap. His big hand grabbed a hold of your thighs and hoisted you up into a more comfortable position.

Next to you were Steve and Robin, Robin laying down, resting her head in Steve’s lap, ranting about her last embarrassing encounter with Vickie in their budding but somehow still turbulent relationship. 

“ I do not get how you’ve done it over and over again Steve, like sleeping with women is hard.” she said, gesturing wildly with her hands, almost hitting Steve in the face. “Like isn’t it exhausting to sleep with different women all the time? “Oh please, like you're perfect” Robin said, causing both herself and Eddie to snicker as Steve huffed, slightly offended. “Now does anyone mind if I go a bit TMI?” 

Robin looked around the room and was met with mostly curious looks. 

“Okay, so I was,” she began but then she hesitated. “The kids are still in Will's room right?” 

Jonathan nodded and Robin continued.

“That is correct,” you said.

“Then you’ll get to pick the next one,” Joyce said, smiling at you.

The others gathered around, forming a cluster around you. You handed the blindfold to Eddie asking him to put it on you. 

“Now this gives me deja vu” Eddie whispered as you turned around for him to tie the blindfold on you. “and its almost getting me hard again” 

“Shut up and blindfold me Munson” you said.

“Also not the first time I’ve heard that” Eddie chuckled as he bound a delicate knot at the back of your head.

He spun you around a couple of times and then sent you off, to choose the next Santa.

It landed on Dustin, who took the job with the outmost responsibility.

He put on a show to say the least, giving out presents to everyone. 

The room felt so much like home in that moment, when people you loved and cared about were together, laughing and smiling, having a good time. 

Still a teeny tiny part of you wanted to go home, go you know fix the fact that you were still so god damn horny.
