if you don’t know what is going on right now, educate yourself. this country’s continuous silence to the oppression of the people who have practically placed this country’s economy on their backs and carried it! instead of thanking us with something so simple called EQUALITY!!! they’d rather kill us unapologetically and try to justify it!! AMERICA HAS HAD ITS KNEE ON OUR NECKS FROM THE BEGINNING AND IT TOOK 8 MINUTES FOR THE WORLD TO REALIZE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG!! To the corporations who have made public statements of support for the black community, sounds good.. but it’s time to take things a step further. Too often we see companies who might piggyback off a trending hashtag but really are contributing to the appropriation and exploitation of the black community behind the scenes. We ask all brands who have release a “public statement of support” to show us what their board room, their senior staff, and their corporate employees look like as well. I want to take a minute to reach out to those who are makeup enthusiast such as myself.

I am sure you have all seen the myriad of social media post and public statements from almost every brand and company declaring their support for the black community and black lives matters. While this is great, it also allows companies to piggy back off a current trending hashtag and does little to actually support the black community. As many of you may or may not know, the beauty community can often be a toxic environment for Black people. Its just been recently that some brands started actually creating foundations and concealers that had more than 2 “dark” shades. Black women and men are serverly under represented in the beauty community. It’s time for that to change!

To combat performative allyship, Sharon Chuter (founder of Uoma Beauty) has started a campaign for #PullUpOrShutUp. Calling for companies within the beauty industry to publicly release statements with the number of black employees they have leadership roles at corporate level.

Several brands have replied, several have not. The numbers, well aren’t surprising. But this is a chance for those companies to take steps in the right direction. And many of those who are lacking have already pledge to change this. This isn’t a witch hunt, it’s a call for transparency so companies can be held accountable to their claims of “solidarity”

If you will be buying makeup, skin care products, or any other beauty related item in the near future, consider checking out this IG for responses from various brands. If you support the black community, stand with them and refuse to patronize any company that does not respond.

I yearn for low maintenance hair (so much so that I just had my first keratin treatment on Friday) and have been all about natural, air-dried waves lately. Frankly I’m tired of wearing my hair up ALL the time and don’t have the energy to spend an hour styling it only to go nowhere. Am I the only one that feels like that’s time better spent elsewhere right now? - Typically I would never consider a brand like @sexyhair but with easy summer waves in mind I decided to try their Healthy Sexy Hair Fresh Hair Air Dry Mousse when I saw it on @octoly. It’s enhanced with Mimosa Oil and Moonstones, and is a lightweight, non-aerosol air drying mousse that helps tame hair and prevent frizz without weighing hair down (essential for me when it comes to letting my hair air dry). It provides an easy, no heat necessary, tousled look, and is ideal for enhancing natural texture. I use a wide tooth comb to detangle after washing and conditioning, then I work about 5-6 pumps (lots of hair over here) into damp hair, and use my Aquis towel to gently scrunch and activate my natural curls while absorbing excess water. Then I leave it to air dry and try to avoid touching it for the next hour. Once 98% dry I’ll use my diffuser really quick to give it volume and naturally tousle my hair. Overall it’s does just what it claims and I’ve been happy with the results. - Now when it comes to the brand itself, I have been doing some research and can’t say for sure whether their views align with mine or not but I am obligated to post a review via the Octoly terms. If you know anything of the brand history please do not hesitate to let me know. I do see that they partnered with other brands under the Henkel Beauty Care umbrella to contribute financial support to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund (not sure how much), and have some (albeit a small %) of black representation on their page. 👉🏽How to Build The Strength For Your First Handstand Push Up: 🤸🏽‍♂️ - 1️⃣ Hold the handstand for time against a wall (15-30 secs is good to start with) - Repeat 4 times - 2️⃣ Do feet elevated push ups 3 sets of 10-15 reps is a good starting point - 3️⃣ Do Pike push ups: These will strength your shoulders & get you used to pressing up vertically (it’s basically a super elevated push up) - 4️⃣ Do 25-50 push ups in row: If you can do that then you should have enough strength to push yourself up. - If you want to build up your upper back, shoulders triceps and core all at the same time then master the handstand push up; you will be glad you did. - Have any handstand push ups questions?
