“Charity begins at home”, they say, and for our next event, “Home” is going back to our body, back to the societal constructs of the male gender and gender norms, back to speaking to our collective and individual realities and taking responsibility as men while discussing our different approaches to doing life within a patriarchal society, how we navigate masculinity (toxic masculinity, in particular) that was given from birth. No tree just becomes a tree without going through a process. Some people take it within their power to hack down trees they do not like or disagree with; some people take another route. This series is an attempt to take a different route to discussing these issues. For unlearning and learning to happen, the work does not stop at identifying the problem. Instead, we are attempting to understand the problem without prejudice. So we are asking each other, "How did we get here?" and "How and what are we and why?" You are invited to our very first series focused on men’s views on ‘Masculinity and Toxic Masculinity'. We hope to extend the series to genders and identities. “I am inviting people I respect and think are constantly developing and finding ways to be better. I personally look forward to this series and others to come” - Omonblanks Featuring Okhiogbe Omonblanks Omonhinmin (Conveyor) 21st Jan 2022 @theseaiswide x @omonblanks @wanlov x @omonblanks 22nd Jan 2022 @daniel.m.quist x @omonblanks 23rd Jan 2022 @pureakan x @omonblanks https://www.instagram.com/p/CY0vXK7MzoU/?utm_medium=tumblr
