Spent the weekend at Purina Farms watching my puppy kick ass. Well... He kicked a lot of ass on Saturday, at least.
He won a 4 point major over some incredible competition to become Winners Dog. His puppy antics didn't earn him anything in the final choice of Best of Winners or Breed which, honestly, fair.
No love for him on Sunday. He won his class so I got at least one shiny blue 'first place' ribbon, but the judge was uh... particular towards a certain pro handler showing that day.
Dog shows and politics is something I'm learning about every time he goes to show and it's a WILD and CATTY(and also surprisingly scandalous) world out there between judges, pro handlers, amateur handlers and especially owner handlers. I'm glad I'm not the one taking him into the ring. Maybe once he's finished I might dabble in it for the National Owner Handler Series but... I doubt it.
But as far as the weekend went, a 4 point major over some serious competition? I'm over the fucking moon.

For dogs who love the water, dock diving is similar to the Olympics. Dogs aim for height or distance when they jump off a dock into a swimming pool. It's a splash-worthy sport that showcases dogs' agility and water-loving nature.
Getting Your Dog Ready for a Dock Diving Experience
Teach your dog to love the water, and start with basic obedience training to prepare them for a dock diving competition. Practice leaping progressively farther into a pool from a pier or platform. Remember to congratulate them and acknowledge their accomplishments!
Upcoming competitions for dock diving
Explore the world of dock diving competitions by attending nearby local competitions or events like the National Dock Diving Championships. It's an exciting moment for contestants and onlookers alike.
Competitions for Nosework
The Nosework Competition World
Dogs compete in nosework competitions, which are similar to detective games. They use their incredible sense of smell to look for hidden odors. It's an enjoyable method to use the instincts and cognitive capacities of your dog.
Keys to Nosework Training
To become competitive in nosework, begin with basic smell training using toys or treats. Gradually introduce more difficult hiding places and smells. In no time at all, your dog will be sleuthing out clues like an expert investigator!
Important Championship Events for Nosework
Don't pass up prestigious nosework championship events, such as the National Championship Canine Scent Work. See which canines are the best at sniffing out talent, and find out who becomes the ultimate nosework champion.
Entice Coursing Events
Overview of Entice Racing
For dogs, lure coursing is similar to a fast-paced chase. They demonstrate their quickness and agility by pursuing a mechanical lure through a course. In this exhilarating sport, dogs may let their inner sprinter go.
Getting Ready for Successful Lure Coursing
Prioritize your dog's speed and fitness when preparing them for lure coursing competitions. To get better, practice chasing a bait in a secure setting. Prepare to see your canine race around the course like a fuzzy sprinter!

Dogs are tested in obedience trials for their manners, cooperation, and teamwork with their handler. Through heelwork and recalls, dogs demonstrate their skills and relationships with humans. It resembles a puppy and their best friend performing a dance routine.
Practical Methods for Teaching Obedience
Consistency and positive reinforcement training techniques are key to success in obedience trials. Practice basic obedience commands in a variety of settings, such as come, sit, and remain. Your dog will excel in the obedience arena with time and training.
Important Obedience Trial Events to Participate in
Top obedience trial events, such as the AKC National Obedience Championship, are not to be missed. Watch proficient dogs exhibit their mastery of obedience and see firsthand the close relationship that exists between dogs and their handlers. It's deference, tempered with joyful woofs and waving tails! The most important thing is to have fun and share these experiences with your faithful buddy, regardless of whether you decide to take on the agility course, soar through the air in a disc dog championship, or demonstrate your teamwork in a flyball competition. So, when you and your dog make waves in the dog sports industry, accept the obstacles, reach your full potential, and create lifelong memories.

The Sealyham Terrier is named after the Sealyham House in Wales where the breed was originally cultivated. They're considered a "hypoalergenic" breed because they hardly shed even with their two-layer coat. The under-layer is dense and the outer, longer layer, is weather resistant. They were once one of the most popular terrier breeds, but nowadays they're rare and even called endangered in their native lands. This Sealyham is colored to match Stache, the 2023 winner of the Purina National Dog Show! #sealyham #sealyhamterrier #sealyhamterriers #art #dogart #redbubbleartist #teepublicartist #jensdogscustom

Happy Thanksgiving to all my followers! How are you guys celebrating?
I've got my husband, daughter, my brother, and my sister with her husband and teenage daughter. But, no turkey. Hubby didn't want to deal with prepping it, cooking it, and carving it.

Y’all I have a great idea! (Just hear me out)
So the Purina National Dog Show is great and all, but it’s only for pure-breed dogs.
I think that there should be a Mutt Dog Show™! Everyone knows that mutts are the cutest, plus the show could also “sponsor” other mutts that need adopting that are similar to the ones being shown to help find forever homes for our homeless furry friends!

Omg tell us about the Rowlf guy Fig……… 🤲 (i ask as someone who knows nothing about Muppets lol)
Okay I’m off work!!! I’ll go into my tangent…
Rowlf was the very first muppet to be introduced to television! He was used in purina dog chow commercials and they were very similar in tone and humor to Henson’s other commercials like Wilkins coffee…
Tumblr media
In other words, he was the first muppet to be on tv and be recognized on a national level. He was also featured on the Jimmy Dean Show! The guy with the sausages!
Jim Henson would often ad-lib Rowlf’s lines and make Jimmy Dean laugh right along with the crowd! I have tons of clips of just Jimmy laughing his head off when Rowlf says something hilarious out of nowhere
youtube
And of course Rowlf’s roll in The Muppet Show as the resident pianist/musician aside from the Electric Mayhem. He’d have funny ditties to perform that genuinely were written very well! ‘I’ve Never Harmed an Onion’, ‘What a Wonderful World’, and ‘Cottleston Pie’ are some of my personal favorites. He also has recurring bits where he appears as a doctor and cracks jokes for a few minutes with Piggy and Janice
youtube
He doesn’t get very much exposure since Jim Henson’s passing since many, including Henson himself, felt that Rowlf was the muppet closest to him aside from Kermit. He was difficult to recast but ended up with Bill Barretta who also performs others like Dr Teeth! Whenever he is used now, it’s usually one note, but at least they make all of his lines count
youtube
To make a long post short, he’s a mellow dog with a southern twang and super likable! He’s funny, soft, and memorable despite being a simple dog puppet. All of his lines and jokes were given special care even after Henson was gone, and Rowlf was better for it
He is my favorite muppet by far, I hope you all like him too!

November 19, 2021 | Pharaoh hounds
A few of my colleagues got puppies in the last two years. (An article on June 16, 2021, on Cision writes that a “survey commissioned by Purina® Beyond® uncover[ed] that a whopping 3.7 million (10 per cent) of Canadians newly adopted, purchased or fostered a cat or a dog during the pandemic.”) There are also many dog (and cat and other pet) videos on social media. From this mostly self-induced bombardment of puppies and dogs, I felt a tug to have my own puppy, which led me to casually browse through petfinder.com, a website in which you can search for adoptable dogs by breed. One breed stood out to me: the pharaoh hound.
Tumblr media
Here are some did-you-knows about pharaoh hounds from akc.org:
The pharaoh hound originated in ancient Egypt.
The pharaoh hound is one of the oldest domesticated dogs in recorded history.
Reliefs of the pharaoh hound can be found in the tomb chapel of Mereuwka and the tomb chapel of Senbi. (Does anyone have photos of these?)
However, according to luvmydogs.com, the pharaoh hound is “the national dog of Malta” and though it “has long had a reputation as one of the oldest of breeds, said to date to 3,000 B.C.E[, m]odern genetics [...] show that the breed was created much more recently, perhaps in the 17th century on the island of Malta.”
My understanding is that the pharaoh hound is an ancient breed, but the breed we know today “was created more recently”; did I understand that correctly?
There is a thesis titled “An Egyptian’s Best Friend? An Analysis and Discussion of the Depiction of the Domestic Dog in Ancient Egypt” by Melissa Marie Thiringer available online, on the University of Memphis’s digital commons. I have not read it, but from its abstract it looks interesting. The thesis also mentions the relief of a dog(s) in Senbi’s tomb.
