ONF and their high maintenance S/O (mostly about makeups and manicures)

dislcaimer : I dont support the mentality of aegyoing/manipulating/sabotaging your partner to buy you stuffs. Gifts are gifts but its not their are not full responsibility. It is also not a duty/obligation for your partner to recognize delicate makeup product when they can't and buy you your makeup product as well.

What i am saying even though here is that bf gifting lipsticks it does not mean guys should do it and also does not mean that if your own bf could not do it then they dont love you. ok let go to hcs.

Hyojin

I think he will ask you to drop the heavy makeup after you two are comfortable with each other. To him it was not your makeup that impressed him to date you.

He is the type that "I don't get make up but ok you look good" type of person, I mean have you watched how he get ready to go out in the Berlin trip? He just do basic stuffs not even a delicate touch XD

I think because he has a sister back at home? But if you think he will at least know a bit of stuffs because he has a sister then you are wrong lol

But he does understand if you wanna doll up a bit. I think he personally appreciates those times when he caught himself felt that you are dazzling.

I think its cute that maybe you only do basic light make up when going out with him but then when you join him with his friends, you wanna look good so you will put on proper make up (not over heavy ones). But Hyojin be like , " oh, come on... Its just my friends XD"

He is the type that waits for you, unless you have really bad time management, he will come over to rush you. "Hey hey hey, we are gonna be late"

Does not interested at make up or beauty stuffs so he would always questions with curiosity when he saw stuffs like.. " Glue? for what? Eyelashes? Won't it be dangerous?" (Especially you are the type that watches make up vids)

Bonus, you are in charge of his skin care, most of the time.

another bonus, the type that laughs at you if you are the type that opens your mouth when you are drawing eyeline

Changyoon

Very similar to Hyojin so I will skip make up and focus on the nail polish

(Also expanding the Changyoon who loves your hand hcs)

He knows of nail polish and the basic stuffs like base, polish and top, but did not pay full attention on manicure and pedicure stuffs

So when the first time you brought out mini UV light to cure your nails, he goes " Woah they got stuffs like that? why no one told me? I spend minutes blowing at my nails to dry during BB era"

Bonus if you work in nail salon or pick up manicure as hobby, i think you might share a bit of design you found online and ask him his opinions. His will comment a bit.

Also you might grasp his hands and try out newly thought designs on his hands

Bonus if he blushes and burst into laughter until you jokingly snap at him, "Ya, its not the first time I do design test out using your hands? Why are you beet red?"

To go deep into his mentality, he does not hate make up, he gets it. But for manicure he acknowledges it as art expression of oneself as well.

I think he prefer short nail manicure, once you get a longer sharper designs and you cant do your task like how you did normally, Changyoon nags you.

Also Changyoon thoughts on fake nail stickers, "Super convenient!"

He would love to try do your manicures if he got the chance. Not just painting plain color, he might also try following designs that your show him.

Seungjun

He is a delicate boy hahahah (watch leaders Berlin trip then you will get it)

Not the type that can recognize different shades of lipstick or foundation, but he still have basic knowledge. I do see is the type that will keep in mind what color you uses and will present you your favorite lipstick color. Or even randomly choose 1 color that he thinks it might look good on you.

I think you two will stand side by side in front of mirror and do make up and help each other check a bit. Especially eye shadow color, and hairstyles (if it is outdoor date day)

The type that notices changes on you but will tease you by keep saying the wrong answers. "Hey you look different? Is it the eyeshadow? Or was it a new earring? eh I was wrong?*devilsh smile"

He has two sisters so he is used and knows that girls and high maintenance people wears makeup. BB cream at least.

Fascinated when he first time sees you do your own manicure, he saw Changyoon paint nails during BB era, but if it is his first time seeing you painting quite complicated nail design from scratch, he goes "OOOOOOH so thats is how it done? 0A0"

I think he might introduce his sisters to you if you are a makeup artist or if you work at nail salon

Bonus if you are the type that do really minimum skin care, because of his (idk if i am using the right word) eagerness of doing facial mask, you might pick that up too lol

Both of you having facial mask on and chilling on the couch watching TV

another bonus, you two bickering because either one of you made the other one laugh too much making the mask cracked if it is dried up cream type.

Jaeyoung

He is like a combination of Hyojin and Seungjun?

Not sure on his skin care stuff but he will do basic stuff and I think he focus on stylizing his hair more? (but unlike Seungjun, Jaeyoung is more on styling using wax and hairspray)

the type who cant tell difference in lipstick shade lol

He thinks light makeup with less procedure/product look good on you. Especially if you are the one who is super insecure and wakes up super early to do heavy but natural looking makeup before work

Owh special mention, natural shade/nude shade themed makeup is his favourite

He has high respect on people who are high maintenance, but if you are too over enthusiastic he will tell you to slow down and go light heart on it, "Its to boost confidence/feel good about yourself right? Its not to impress others by overdoing it right?"

If you are a tiktok-er. I think you might ask Jaeyoung to do the my boyfriend did my make up challenge (To add, you cant trust Hyojin and Seungjun on this cos high chance if their prank mode kick in, rip. Changyoon will do it tho but you need to persuade him. Jaeyoung and Minkyun are the easiest to ask)

If sometimes Jaeyoung caught seeing you watching manicure design vids or you happened to try out a new manicure design from tutorial you saw online, he will sit beside, try hard to not disturb you. But while watching he will goes "Uwa, Shingi hada/ this is intriguing/amazing." (Try watch Mini game heaven season 2 0316, when he is the one holding the word board, the face he make as he is watching the leaders appeared in my head when writing this lol)

bonus, if you are doing really intricate work like placing a small sticker or draw a small design or sticking a small trinket? on your nails, Jaeyoung will also focus with you by holding his breath as he watches you doing your tasks

Minkyun

You trusted this boy to do BF do my makeup challenge and you regret it soon after, but the view results are amazing lol

but i think their S/O might lowkey get trauma lol and always decline Minkyun offer to help do makeup hahah

But again, when he do try to do it properly, he is ok

bonus, you two had to get another mirror because Minkyun is standing in front yours to check himself out every time he styles his hair a single bit, and it delays your pace of doing your make up.

Appreciate effort of you wanna look good, also he is the type who sits behind S/O while waiting them to finish up makeup (others will wait outside, But Minkyun is the type I want see whole process of how their S/O "transform")

Also the one who will sit beside you as you do your own manicure, or, the bf who will sit beside their S/O at nail salon watching the whole process.

But his hands are busy as he is also curious, so he will reach out to check the nail polish bottle or even the UV cure machine

So, he is also the type that will follow you into Sephora or makeup selling shops (is not that the others wont follow, but I want to highlight specifically for Minkyun). Hands busy, checking out stuffs.

Unlike Seungjun, the type that really cant tell if you change new lipstick or switched new eyeshadow.

BUT I THINK THIS PERSON, HE WILL SUDDENLY DROP A NEON EYESHAOW OUT OF BLUE IN FRONT OF YOU WHEN YOU ARE PAYING. You are gonna fluster if you are not the type who do daring colors. Minkyun only giggles and say " You wont know if you don't like it if you try?"

the funny bit, its not even him paying when he wants you to try lol

He is more of skincare type person. Similar to Seungjun, both of you cuddling with sheet masks on.

Yuto

The one who sticks to basic stuffs, skincare mostly

Also the type who will try to do makeup challenge diligently, asking you how should he do it rather than making a mess on your face.

The type that gives you thumbs up and affirming nods when you ask him how do you look.

He won't comment too much or nags/persuade you to stop doing heavy makeup eventually because he respects effort and confidence boost behind your makeup/high maintenance mentality

But he is flustered when you suddenly did a "I did a instagram summer gal makeup and show my bf" (for example) as it was way different and you look different. The moment you suggest to make this makeup theme as your usual, YUTO PANICKED, "Stop, stop, Mon sori yo? / What did you just say?"

IF you are office worker, he will nag at you if you are thinking straight to wear that makeup to office lol

The type that just quietly follows behind you when you are doing your shopping tour at Sephora or makeup shop.

But he will stop you if he sees your eyes gleaming as you stand at lipsticks corner lol (If you are the type who loves to collect and have too much lipsticks)

Occasionally surprise you with your fave lipstick color as well. Especially on early days of the relationship, you think he is the type that does not care. But turns out he is observant (because it is you so he is observant at your favorite stuffs)

Owh... i think he will be the perfume sensitive type person? He will mention what type of fragrance that he think you will go along well with.

Also I think the type who will recognizes if you changed perfume. Also the type who recognizes if you used his.

He might ask you to try on a sample and then you two might get a couple lover perfume/fragrance.

A How To on Acrylic Nails

Beauty tends to change just about every month and depending on the location it can be entirely different than what it is at a different place in the world. Sure, people like to advocate for the natural beauty for the simple and just be yourself platforms but sometimes what we add to our appearances define our moods and confidence. Accessories are part of our self-expression and I like to believe it adds extra personality to someone's individual style. Now am I a certified person to be talking about the beauty trends of the world? Simply put no. I am not a fashion student or guru for that matter, but I do have interest. Specifically, in one beauty trend that seems to change and grow each year. Nails!!!

Well acrylic nails to be more specific. They have always interested me, sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. See, as a kid I didn't understand them. I remember seeing girls around school with perfectly French tip nails. And as a young naive kid, I used to believe that those were their original nails. I always thought, “Wow their nails are so pretty, why are my……” Yes, I used to think my nails were less than desirable but hey can you blame me? No one told me the secret. My mom didn't understand the concept of spending money on unnecessary things. And to be honest I thought the same into one day I walked to my very first nail salon. I felt powerful, beautiful, different. When I got my very first set of acrylic nails something clicked. Sure, there were downfalls like not being able to open jars, sodas, and sometimes doors, but the perks were so good. I felt like an inner diva rose and said,” You look good.”

Now this blog isn't just me going on and on about how I love Acrylic Nails or how they are a good accessory or even about how they fit in in the new beauty era. Nope, I was interested in how to affordably get my nails done. I figured YouTube is popular with “how to” videos so I figured it was time for me to get a new hobby. I know very little on how to create beautiful nails, but I can give you the information that I have learned from my new hobby, first with what you will need and second the steps to create.

What equipment/products are needed to achieve beauty long acrylic nails?

● Acrylic Nail tips- These are used as a template for nail shapes/lengths and it makes the nail stronger. Also, if you are like me and nervously chew your nails, these help a lot.

● Nail Glue- Self-explanatory but this is needed for the fake nail to stay on your real nail.

● Acrylic Nail Clipper/Nail File- Used to cut and shape the nail. I don't recommend using scissors, because they wouldn't be able to clip the nail even, and it would look bad.

● Electric Nail Drill- Use to file, buff and shape the nail so that it doesn't look like a hot mess. You don't have to have a drill, you can always use a simple file, but it will take longer, like a lot longer.

● Acrylic Monomer/ Acrylic Powders- When combined they make the substance use to create acrylic nails. They smell bad.

● Acrylic Dish- To hold Monomer and the brush

● Acrylic Nail brush- It's a must to have a good quality nail brush, because if not it wouldn't last long and it can even make your application impossible to make.

● Nail Polish Remover- It helps to clean off the brush and fix small mistakes, plus it removes you know, nail polish.

● Nail Primer- Use to make nails last longer, I personally don't use this because I am still learning how to create good nails and they are easier to take off without the primer, but if you really want to use it go ahead.

● Nail Dust Remover/ Mask- Trust me, there will be a lot of nail dust everywhere.

Acrylic Nails Application steps.

Clean your nails- Your body naturally creates oil. Remove all nail polish and overall make them look neat.

File- File your natural nail so that it's in manageable length and then file the top of the nails so that it leaves a little rough surface. This is to help the fake nails stay longer but be careful and don't over file them.

Cuticles- Now you can put cuticle remover and push your cuticles back, but I like removing them with the drill. If you don't know what cuticles are, they are that thin layer of extra looking skin on the edges of your nails. If you don't remove them. It looks like your nails have grown out and they will make your nails look, well messy.

Fake Nail tips- Make sure to take your time getting the right sizes for each finger. If they are too big, it will cover the skin and your nails will hurt, especially if forcefully removed (I used to laugh at any girl who cried for a broken nail until it happened to me, it hurts really bad).

Nail primer- After your nails are in place put a small layer of nail primer. I usually skip this step and I recommend it, if you are new to the nail game like me.

Acrylic monomer/ powder- Acrylic dish and Nail brush will be needed. Put the brush inside the dish with the monomer. Gentle rub the brush against the glass side to remove excess liquid. Gently place on powder and create a bead and then place on the back end of the nail. Repeat the steps but this time apply the bead on the middle of the nail and then on the tip of the nail. Each time you do this remember to swipe the brush so that I combine gradually and nicely with the fake nail. This takes practice and I mean a lot of practices. You will mess up but don't get discouraged and try again and remember you can always use the electric drill to fix your obvious mistakes. Make sure to apply the mixture fast because it will dry out.

Electric Drill- With the drill you will trim the bumps and undesirable mistakes, then file and buff.

Overall

It's fun to create the nails I want but it does take practice, and patience. I sometimes take a day to finish a set of nails. I manage to do one hand and I get too tired to do the other one. After they are created the fun part is decorating them. I personally like gel nails because they last longer than regular nail polish. To decorate with gel polish, you will need a UV Nail Light because gel polish only dries under it. I am serious, you can wait 20 years and gel polish will not dry on its own. Now after all these steps you are probably thinking,” I prefer paying for acrylic nails” or “this is too much work.” But let me tell you, you will save money and it's actually very rewarding when you create them on your own. Sure, nails aren't for everyone and with the way beauty trends change there's a good chance acrylic nails will be a thing of the pass. But I still recommend learning to create them. It's a form of art, which helps reduce stress, you save money in the long run (well if you get your nails done regularly), and it's a form of expression. It added a spice of, THIS IS ME, vibes and you get to create something from nothing. Plus, you can also show off your new skill to your friends. If you do decide to learn this skill remember to keep practicing, it's okay to take your time and don't give up. I advocate for this trend because it gives me confidence that I can do anything. I like to express my mood through the colors that I chose and give my personality a voice with the designs I chose. I also ran out of things to do in my time off and when thinking about what to do in my isolated boredom I came to the realization that doing acrylic nails could be fun. I did think of the more common hobbies to pick up like exercising , painting, even writing, but I wanted to challenge myself in a way that those other hobbies couldn't ( I hate running, I paint like a three year old and writing acquired extra focus/ thinking). Creating nails challenge me on a creative artistic level. It also gives me motivation to succeed because doing all that effort for them to come out ugly was not an option. I recommend looking at a lot of videos and overall staying positive. Yes, they will come out looking a bit funky at first and your fingers might feel like they are going to fall off but it's really fun to try. Whether it's this beauty trend or a different one just remember don't let others stop you from expressing your individuality.

a/n: honestly idk if this is even fluffy but fudjbfd i hope it’s ok,, the plot was totally different in my head but as i was writing it, i guess it just went down a different path huh

summary: Due to losing a bet, Taeyong has to get his nails painted. But it’s not too bad when you turn out to be the person painting his nails, which prompts him to visit you more in hopes of asking you out.

"Y/N, Taeyong is here for you," your co-worker calls into the back room, causing you to roll out of your spot on the old leather couch. You stuff your phone into the front pocket of your black apron and toss the empty bag of potato chips into the trash bin next to the exit. As you enter the nail salon from the break room, a young man with lush faded pink hair sits in his usual seat, which is at your manicure desk near the front of the shop.

"Hey, Tae," you greet the latter as you take your seat opposite of him. As per usual, Taeyong sports his signature winged eyeliner and smokey brown eyeshadow look paired with a glossy red lip. He is a regular at the nail salon you work at now, always requesting you for a manicure.

Taeyong first entered the small town nail salon a couple weeks ago. During that time, Taeyong's hair was a more deeper pink and he was a lot less confident. You had just finished painting the nails of a customer, showing her to the drying machine. The entrance door rang, signaling another customer. You quickly ran behind the front counter since everyone else was busy with nail painting.

"Good afternoon, welcome. How may I help you today?" you asked and meet the face of the pink-haired customer. You were slightly shocked that the person was a male since not many males visit this nail salon. Behind the man stood a small group of guys, presumably his friends, all with different unnaturally dyed hair colors. The friends were pushing the man to the front desk, while the latter tried his best to escape their trap. One of the guys, with dark blue hair, mumbles something to the person trying to escape. You only caught on to a couple words, 'bet' and 'pretty.' With one last shove, the man appeared in front of you with an awkwardly distraught smile.

"How may I help you?" you repeat, trying not to laugh from the scene that just unfolded in front of you.

It seemed like the stench of nail polish and acetone had finally hit him as he cringed while trying to place an order, "Uh... A - manicure... Please."

"Okay, do you have an appointment with someone?" you questioned, registering the order into the computer behind the counter. A small smile spread across your face from the hilarious and uncomfortable faces the latter was pulled from the strong scent, though it appeared as if there was something else bothering him as well. The pink-haired man shook his head 'no' a moment later, trying to process what I meant. His group of friends lit up with a roar of whispers and chuckles from behind.

"Okay, that's fine. We'll just place you with someone that's not busy," you click a few buttons to purchase the manicure for the man and he slides his credit card into the slot.

"Follow me," you instructed and handed him the receipt. His friends sent him thumbs ups and kissy faces but you didn't pay a mind to them to witness it. Past the curtains that separated the waiting area from the nail stations, you look around the shop to see if anyone is open for a customer. But each manicure location was seated with another except your own.

You pointed to an empty seat to your left, telling him to sit down and pick a color, and then slide into the seat in front of him. As you pulled out the necessary items and tools you need, you could sense the confusion from the latter.

"Are you looking for any specific color?" You take the keychain of fake nails painted with different tones from him and help flip through the selections.

"C-can I just get - uh black?" the pink-haired man studders. You had already predicted that he'd prefer some dark color like black or red. It matched his aesthetic, even though his hair was the opposite. The clothes he wore was all black, black ripped jeans and a black graphic tee of some old 80s band. His ears are lined with silver dangly earrings. Even the simple black choker around his neck screamed a dark aesthetic. So it wasn't surprising that he chose black for his nails.

You held the man's right hand, coating each of his short fingernails with a quick base coat before doing the first layer of the glossy jet black polish. You could feel that he was trying to keep as still as possible, which only made him shake even more and therefore, making it difficult for you to stay inbetween the lines. To keep his hand steady, you gave it a light squeeze in your hand. The pink-hair man's face burned up from the short action, turning bright red. Your mouth formed a slight smirk but you kept your head down.

"So how badly did you lose that bet?" you teased, grin growing larger with every shade of red his face reaches. He stammered, causing his hands to stiff. You laughed at his reaction and caught how red he tips of his ears were.

"What did your friends bet you to do anyway?" you continued since the customer couldn't form a straight sentence.

"Well... They thought it would be funny to teepee the house of my boss - but I didn't go through with it..."

"Heh chicken."

"I'm trying not to get fired here."

You chuckled and moved on to the second coat of black nail polish, "So I guess getting your nails painted is your punishment?"

"Yeah... Ugh, this is so embarrassing."

With a raise of an eyebrow, you paused to look up at the latter, "What's wrong with painting your nails?"

This caused the man to bolt up with embarrassment once again, his face somehow got redder. He rapidly waved his hands back and forth with panic, "Th-that's not what I meant! It's just my friends- I mean my friends are embarrassing!"

"Woah there, I was just teasing you," you replied, grabbing his hand again so that he didn't mess up the wet polish.

Finishing the final layer of top coat, you helped the pink-haired man up from his seat and over to the drying stations. You instructed him to simply stick his hands under the UV light for five to ten minutes before it dried. The man looked hesitant to hold his hands under the neon purple lights, mumbling that he'd get skin cancer or something along those lines. You returned to your station with a smile to clean up for the next customer. As you put away all of the polishes and tools into the draw of your desk, you felt a light tap on your shoulder. You turned to find the pink-hair man standing behind your chair with a shy smile.

"I'm - I think it's all dry. What do I do now?" he asked innocently, poking each of his nails gingerly with his pointer finger.

"Oh good, they look great! And you're all done so enjoy your day!"

"That's... it?"

"Would you like a pedicure too? Or do your friends also want to match with you?" you joked and moved to stand up, leading the man to the exit. His previous group of friends seemed to have abandoned him since the waiting room was clear of wild-haired men.

"Oh, by the way... Earlier you said that people can make appointments with someone they want?" the guy questioned by the door.

You nod in response, "Mhm, why?"

"Ah - my sister? Yeah for my sister," he sputtered, rubbing his hands together, "What's your name? - To, you know, tell my sister."

"Y/N," you giggle at his efforts, "And you?"

"Taeyong."

"Well Taeyong, I hope to see your... sister... and you soon!"

After his first visit, you assumed you would never see him back here again, with how uncomfortable he had felt. You thought maybe you had teased him a bit too much and he was scarred for life. But not even a week later, the same pink-topped man enters the nail shop, requesting for you. When you asked him why he's back, especially so soon, he responded that the polish on his pinky nail chipped. With a roll of your eyes, you helped him repaint his pinky nail. He was disappointed by the short appointment, so that prompted him to visit regularly now, even if his nails are perfectly intact.

Today is Taeyong's fourth visit within the past month. By this time, he has transformed from the shy awkward person to a more bold and flirtatious person. Instead of you shooting the teases that make him flushed all over, the roles are reversed where his sly actions and flirty remarks knock all the air out of your lungs. And he uses that to his advantage.

"What color?" You don't know why you ask that with every visit because Taeyong's response is always black.

Except for today, "Hmm, why don't you chose for me today? Spice it up for me, baby."

Cursing to yourself for putting your hair into a ponytail, your ears are probably firetruck red. It isn't the first time he's called you baby, or babe, or babygirl. Hell, he even calls you princess from time to time. No matter how many times Taeyong calls you these flirty pet names, it will always catch you off guard and cause your body temperature to skyrocket to an unhealthy level. It's pretty obvious that you have a huge crush on Taeyong, even if you've only known him for a few weeks. And it is blatant torture for him to tease you like this.

"Let's go with...light pink, to match your hair?"

"How adorable. So you like my hair this way?"

You ignore him, afraid that if you'd open your mouth, you'd embarrass yourself. With a silent sigh, you grab his right hand and feel the usual tingling under your skin from the contact. His hands are extremely soft and warm, so you take your time to paint his nails just so you get to hold them longer. Pathetic, I know.

"So Y/N, how's your day been?"

"Eh, kinda boring - until you showed up," you gaze into his dark eyes, leaning in. You had hoped that you can at least tease him once back for the multiple teases he sends your way. But to no avail, as Taeyong leans even closer with a daring smirk. "Is that so?"

You disconnect the eye contact to continue painting his nails, hiding your face from Taeyong. Damn you and your beautiful face.

"I bought this really pretty blue dress but I have nowhere to wear it to. So it's just sitting in my closet, collecting dust," you switch the subject quickly.

"I have somewhere for you to wear it to."

"Hmm? What, where?"

"A date?"

"Well, yeah that's obvious. But one problem, I don't have a date."

"So that means the position is open for candidates?"

You put the brush cap back into the small bottle of nail polish and stare up at the latter, "Wait hold on. Is this your way of asking me out on a date? Because if it is, my answer is yes."

"And if it isn't?"

"Then, I might have to fly to Mexico and change my name from embarrassment."

"Well, that's a good thing I am asking you out on a date, but I don't mind you going to Mexico, only if I get to accompany you though."

A couple of days have passed after, marking your first date with Taeyong. The sun is making its way towards the horizon as the doorbell of your apartment rings. You quickly slide into your small heels and grab your purse before opening the door. Types of varnish:

Acrylic Varnish – These are quick drying and non-toxic water based varnishes which generally have good UV resistance meaning that they can be used outside as well as inside. They can be used on other materials other than wood, so are more versatile than many varnishes. They are clear, highly transparent and do not tend to yellow, but they do not tend to penetrate into the wood as well as oil based varnishes. Being water based you can clean up with water, which makes then very user friendly, but they sometimes do not spread as uniformly as other varnishes. They are generally available in gloss, satin and matte finishes.

Exterior Varnish – As the name indicates these are varnishes which have been specially formulated for use outside. They have added UV protection so that the wood beneath the layer of varnish is protected. They are often microporous which allows the wood to ‘breathe’ and have an added fungicide to prevent mould growth. Relatively flexible, but slow to cure, even if they are touch dry relatively quickly.

These 3 above are the main types of varnish that I would consider if I was to add varnish to my chair. There are other types of varnish such as Yacht Varnish, Alkyd Varnishes, Shellac and Lacquer, however I am not considering these ones as they are either too expensive or are not relevant when creating a chair.

Much like paint, varnishes have finishes that vary from Gloss through Satin to Matte. This describes the finish and how reflective it will be. Gloss is the shiniest and smoothest, while Matte describes a dull and un-shiny finish.

What would I use?

Out of Polyurethane Varnish, Exterior Varnish, Acrylic Varnish; I would most likely use a satin Polyurethane Varnish with UV protection as it would allow the chair to be used both indoors and outdoors. In my opinion my chair is quite summery and it is very likely that It could be used outdoors. I would get one in a satin finish as I think gloss is too shiny and is more suited for something like floors. With satin it adds a sleek shine finish but not too much that it reflects light.

What is Finishing Oil?

Finishing Oil is a blend of high quality oils for use on interior wood. Used to enhance the colour of the wood, it is suitable for use on work tops, kitchen tables and bathroom furniture, and can also be applied to cork, stone and terracotta. Water, heat, alcohol and food acid resistant. It gives a matte, satin or gloss finish depending upon the number of coats applied. Ideal for surfaces requiring a hard wearing and water-resistant finish, it is safe for use on toys.

Oil finishes bring out the natural colours of timber. A wet surface will be an indication of the final colour.

Types of finishing oil:

Standard linseed oil - takes ages to dry, at least two or three days per coat, and you need multiple coats when applying it to new wood, normally three to five coats but in some cases, as many as fifteen to twenty coats can be applied. Boiled linseed oil, on the other hand, ‘only’ takes a day to dry. But neither are suitable for outdoor wood.

Mineral oil - is actually a very effective laxative, which you should be able to buy at your local chemist. While it doesn’t give you the same sheen as the other oils we’ve talked about, it’s perfect for things like kitchen chopping boards where you need a non-toxic finish.

Danish oil and Teak oil - dry faster than linseed oil, which is traditionally used on willow cricket bats. The finish they provide is also much more resilient. Apply Danish and Teak oil with a soft brush or cloth, being careful not to use too much at a time or it won’t sink in. Sand the wood in between coats with a fine sandpaper. You will probably find 3 or 4 coats of oil is your optimum, delivering the best results.

Tung oil - dries with exposure to air. It’s a plastic like, clear coating that is used away from wood finishing in printing inks and oil paints. Often considered to be the finest and most natural finish for wood, it does require a different application process.

What oil would I use?

Out of these oils I would most likely use Tung oil as it dries fairly quickly and still gives of slick finished appearance. It is viable to use outdoors which would allow my chair to be used outdoors where as with linseed oil is would deteriorate outdoors. Tung oil also has the quickest application method as I wouldn't necessarily have to wait days in between each coat.

Finishing Oil vs Varnish:

I think it is essential that is use either Finishing oil or varnish once I have assembled my chair. Either one will give my chair a nice clean and polished finish that will finish off the aesthetic to the wood. Both give off a very similar effect, however I think varnish acts looks more like a reflective sheet over the top of the wood whereas finishing oil sets more into the wood slightly darkening the wood. As I am not hoping for my chair to have that sheet over the top of it and I would rather just a clean, darkened finish I am more likely to use some tung oil. This will still give my wood a natural finish while still appearing clean and sleek.

As I have never made furniture before, this will be the first time I will use a finishing oil or varnish. So it will be interesting to see the effect it will have on my chair. I am also happy that I am still able to learn new techniques and processes during the stresses of the FMP.

Welcome back to my Blog!

Y’all know the saying makeup is all about experimenting with new looks, a means to express moods and show different sides of your personality. As much as I love my neutrals and pinks tones, I also sometimes like to experiment with some irrational and unconventional trends and tweak them to my liking. So, when I was asked to go and pick some new products from 3INA more precisely the UV collection, you can imagine how excited I was. I might be latish in uploading this but it took a while for the LED torch I ordered from eBay to arrive, however here in Malta we are not short of events and nights out so anyone out there interested in this collection can go and get it 🙂

Needless to say all products have ultraviolet light activated components. This collection contains cream eye shadows, pencil eyeliner, lip gloss, blush, nail polish and top coat. All products glow under UV light. I received two cream eye shadows, an kohl eyeliner and a lip gloss. In order to play around with these products I went a got myself a UV light to test out the products. So let’s get the review out of the way first 🙂

The Fluoro Cream Eyeshadow in the shades 401 and 402 : This long lasting, easily applicable eye shadow comes in fluorescent yellow, orange and pink, which ultimately gives off an neon effect. The cream eye shadow is highly pigmented, long-wearing, waterproof and sticks to skin like a glue. I can say that it dries out quickly so layering this product is a bit tricky. Ideally you have to have the look in mind and work it in a little faster. At the touch it feels like a liquid lipstick but it does not dry on the eyes as much as a the liquid lipstick and is quite comfortable to wear. Because of the long-lasting attribute, it might need a bit of work to take off but I must admit that with the Clinique Take the Day off it went off without the need off putting any pressure on the eyes.

The Fluoro Lip Gloss in the shade 200 : The lip-gloss formula is of vinyl shine, non-stick and provides a glassy finish. It contains moisturizing oils to ensure that one’s lips are hydrated for a longer period of time. Like the eye shadow, this product comes in fluorescent yellow, orange and pink. Not much a fan of glosses personally I really do not like them as I do not like my lipstick to go off hence the reason I am a hard core liquid lipstick wearer. The yellow colour I got did not to my lips other than add a layer of sheen, but of course story is totally different when using the UV light.

The Fluoro Eye Pencil in the shade 700 : This eye pencil contains a smudge-proof property and comes in the color of black, but under the light, it gives off a neon blue color. For me having a black kohl liner is a staple in my collection, whether it is for lining the waterline, or when smudged along the lash line as a subtle alternative to liquid liner. The liner itself is super creamy and easy to apply, I loved the high pigmention, as I love for my liner to show up and be seen 🙂 Of course the cool thing about the liner is that through the use of UV light, it is transformed from black to cobalt blue! (LOVE) which of course both of the colours are extremely wearable and really fun to play around with.

Isn’t this look awesome and cool – OMG I AM TOTALLY OBSESSING OVER IT!!!. I knew when I asked Marlene to create a #look for me she would do an extraordinary job but she exceeded my expectations mainly because I did not imagine how daring she was going to be – and oh am I glad she did! WOW a true work of art. I mean she used the lipgloss for my lashes and to highlight underneath my eyes – I was blown away as I would have never thought of that … well clearly the reason why she is an awesome well sought after MUA 🙂

BRONX COLORS Masterclass Pro Foundation(Original packaging)It might be very premature to put this in favourites considering I only had a sample and in wrong colour (sort of), but it lasted a few uses and I was delighted with this formula every time. It's "my type" of foundation, one that looks very natural on the skin, pretty much invisible, which is what I want from foundation as I dislike the obvious look of makeup. I actually have plenty of such formulas, Bourjois Healthy Mix, Maybelline Fit me Matte + Poreless, Essence #insta perfect,… so it doesn't stand out that much, though the coverage is highest among such formulas, yet still in that light-medium or possibly medium category. It's very lightweight and the finish is skin-like, so neither matte nor dewy. I even like the scent which reminds me of Bailey's liquor. Sadly getting one of the lightest shades is proving to be a challenge, so I guess buying a full tube of this will have to wait. BRONX COLORS Boosting Hydrating ConcealerThis is very similar to the foundation and to two of my favourite concealer formulas, Maybelline The Eraser and even more to the Bourjois Radiance Reveal. It's also very natural looking on the skin, it blends like a dream and has a light-medium coverage, which for some might not be enough, but I don't like heavy formulas, especially under the eyes. I can and have been wearing this as a foundation too because I really love how natural this looks, despite having this in a shade that is too dark for me, but it adapts. Another plus is that this is one of the largest concealers in terms of quantity compared to my other concealers with 10 ml of product. REVLON Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish925 Birthday SuitThis was already in the last monthly favourites, though at that time I've only had it for a few days. Not surprisingly it was my most worn lip product in this month. Not only is it super comfortable, similar to Ultra HD Matte formula, which I also love, but here I'm also a big fan of the shade. This is the glossy version of Revlon's liquid lipstick, but it's thick enough that it manages to hold on the lips for quite a while, as I can still feel a layer of it after hours, even after eating an drinking, so it's actually better than lip balms and the glossy finish, for my preference, luckily settles to a more cream one in time. I'm also a big fan of the Kiss Cushions, but I didn't ended up wearing them that often because I don't find my shades suit me that well, but these two formula as some of my favourites for dry lips, while their Overtime lipstick has an outstanding staying power. DIEGO DALLA PALMA Lip Pencil80 Antique PinkTo be fair, I don't think this is the best formula I've tried, for one the staying power could be a lot better, but it's nicely soft, easy to apply all over the lips and the pencil is larger than an average lipliner (it's also a lot more expensive, which is a minus in my books). The reason it's here is because I like this colour on me. It's a medium pinky-mauve shade that finally looks like Mac's Soar lipliner does on people with a medium skin tone. If you're pale like me, then you're familiar with the struggle of trying popular shades (or dupes of those shades) that end up much darker and with different undertones on you and this shade works for pale skin tones without ending up too purple, too brown or too dark. GARNIER Ambre Solaire Ultra-Light Sensitive Face Fluid SPF50+Ambre Solaire Sensitive expert+, UV-Schutz Fluid mit Hyaluronsäure, LSF 50This is my new drugstore love. It definitely filled the void of not having such easy access to Asian sunscreens, as this is equally light and elegant on the skin as those. It has alcohol right after water, but I just don't care. This is a very liquid fluid that applies with ease on the skin even in larger amounts. There's zero white cast and not much shine when you apply it, then within minutes it's just gone on my normal-dry skin. It’s a tiny bit tacky on the skin for a while, but then in sets into a smooth, velvet primer-like finish. Despite the alcohol, my skin doesn't get tight later like it does at Etude House Sunprise fluid, which has a very similar texture. This will replace my Asian sunscreens because it's easily available everywhere here and the price isn't too bad (since it's everywhere, there are good discount options). The packaging is very thin and sleek, so perfect for carrying in pockets and it has precise nozzle that dispenses as much as you need. I should have bought this sooner, I regret now getting Lavozon one and enduring the excessive shine because this is so much nicer. GARNIER SkinActive Hydra Bomb Night Tissue MaskSkinActive Hydra Bomb Tuchmaske NachtThis was my first Garnier mask. I've always assumed these suck or at least there's not as good as Asian masks, but this was a pleasant surprise. Nivea's and Balea's were such disappointments when it comes to the sheets, but this was actually one of most comfortable ones I've used. This and Schaebens Hydrogel Pink one are my new favourites from our drugstores. It's nice to see we now have some nice options and I don't have to order online. Sheet: Not super thin, like some Asian masks have, but it was very soft and comfortable. Fit was pretty good too. The sheet alone makes this a great "treat day" pick.Essence: this has more than enough of liquid. I used the remains on the entire body. It's toner-meet-serum type of texture, so not as light as toner, yet not as thick as some serum. It feels great on the skin.Scent: Nothing special or strong. Just a light chemical scent. Effect: just a classic moisturising effect. On my skin it got a bit tight when the serum/essence dried, but not in a sense that my skin needs extra moisture, it's just the essence forming a kind of filter.
