Trucy Wright and Mr Hat ~ Ace Attorney
Finally got round to editing some pics that were taken way back in March (oops). Trucy is such a favourite of mine, as is Mr Hat, and they were such a joy to cosplay (though I did keep spooking people at con who thought Mr Hat was a real person hovering over my shoulder 🙃)
I made pretty much everything myself, and I am so proud of it all! (Details below the cut, feel free to skip)
Mr Hat is made from 2 cylinders of eva foam with PVC piping (plus lots of nuts and bolts) for support. And that's not editing! There is nothing supporting him from underneath, and he is hands-free to carry around; he is attached to me at the waist via 2 belts that thread through openings I made in the side seams of my dress. All the wood detailing was engraved in with a dremel before he was painted, and I drafted patterns to sew up his cape and shirt. Similarly, his hat is also made from eva foam and covered with the same fabric I used for the cape. The hat fits me too, just only when I have my Trucy wig on or else it's much too big :') His head is also on a hinge so his mouth can open and close. He's basically a big puppet!
Some notes: There are magnets in the hat and gloves to hold his hand in place as well as magnets in his jaw to hold his head close but unfortunately I didnt use strong enough magnets and my lovely Apollo (pictured) had to keep fixing him. His head also started drooping towards the end of the day (this is why I always test my cosplays before entering any competitions!) and I'm struggling to think of a better way to stablise it - if anyone has any tips, please let me know!
In any case, I am so so proud of him! Now onto Trucy...
I've cosplayed Trucy before, but I updated her a bit to go with Mr Hat. I sewed up a new cape (used the old one to make Mr Hat's) and used some glittery iron-on vinyl for the patterns on the diamonds, and added bells so I jingle when I move around!
The dress I found in a charity shop but it initally was a lot longer and much too big for me, so I took it in and up and added the adjustable side-openings + padding on the inside to hide the bumps the belts would make. I made the buttons + the earring from Polymer clay, and the broach with a polymer clay encasing and a resin jewel (which i had to make a mold for. They don't sell em that big)
The bag I also found but sewed fabric over the top to make it look more like Trucy's + added the belt. The neckscarf and Mr Hat's bowtie I completely winged. I stuffed them both plus part of the globes to give everything that cartoonish shape.
I think that's everything. Let me know if you have any questions!

I wanted to throw my hat in the ring for the ‘60s wives! I think the mod looks I’ve seen Crowley in are spot-on, but I also really needed to see her in the weirdest headgear the ‘60s had to offer. They’re in 1963 (thank you Sears catalogues on Pinterest)!
You can see some of my inspiration under the cut!

This unbelievable Givenchy après-ski look from Charade

This tartan cape + gloves combo that seemed to be popular, and the Mary Quant PVC “wet look” ensemble
It was really fun to give myself the limitation of a specific date and start to find looks that fit them from there! Yippee research

This amazing blue vinyl cape was discontinued; however there’s still some available on eBay, for a limited time (while quantities last) for $25.
Also, this video, “Barbers Just Want to Have Fun” is available on HaircutCinema.com; he gets a shampoo, and multiple progressively shorter cuts by one of Chicago’s top fetish barbers. A must see!

Mothra & Godzilla from @btanselanoican’s gijinka D&D/fantasy kaiju series // Cosplayers: @strangecatcosplay & @Fooprawn // photos: Ejen Chuang
My Mom is a skilled sewist and used to make Halloween costumes for my sisters and I when we were young. My sister was born on Halloween so we always had costumes and fun celebrations. That started my fascination with dressing up in costume and I always had fun doing it.
As I got older, my Mom taught me how to sew. In 2010 I saw Alice in Wonderland, and fell in love with the costume designs Colleen Atwood brought to the screen.
My Mom helped me a lot with making an Alice cosplay, and I went to my first anime convention. I had never been to one, and after that I wanted to go to more. I fell in love with the fun process of making cosplays and have been doing it since. It's a huge part of my life now, and I met both of my partners through cosplay.
Tumblr media
Godzilla movies have a special place in my heart. I always loved sci-fi and fantasy, monsters and crazy costumes. Mothra and Battra are my favorites, so when I saw the designs by btanselanoican, I was inspired. It brought back a sense of nostalgia and happiness while making parts of the cosplays. I still have more details that I want to add and fix, but my Mothra cosplay is one of my favorite projects I have worked on in a long time.
Tumblr media
It was a long process, and involved many different materials. For Mothra, I started with the wig. It involved a lot of cotton batting and white felt to build up the shape without adding a lot of weight, then shaping the wig fibers over that. I made the antennae out of wire and painted felt. The earrings are made of cut brass and painted beads. For the dress, it was a lot of patterning by pinning fabrics to my dressform, making a first draft, then using that to cut the actual fabric. I made a corset and skirt, and then the robe/dress piece that wraps over that. The skirt started out white, but was then dyed to the right colors. The sleeves were the hardest part to figure out. They were dyed and painted by hand, before being sewn to the dress. There are also a lot of appliqued gold fabric pieces on the dress. I made the belt, and all the shiny belt petals are also hand-cut brass pieces.
The wings are made of wire and old tights, that I then stitched, painted, and shaped to fit along my back.
Tumblr media
The staff is made from a PVC pipe and foam base, then I added the electronics. There are green LEDs, and a small 10rpm motor that makes the moth wings move. I covered everything with foam strips, making them look like wood and vines. There are compartments made of foam and magnets, that way I can get to the battery pack or motor if I need to. I then added the paint and flowers. The moths are made of foam, pipe cleaners, painted posterboard, and faux fur. The moth wings are attached to the motor via some old ukulele strings. The monofilament keeps its shape and is light, but also strong. It's fed through old metal brakeline tubing that goes through the staff.
Tumblr media
For Godzilla, it was a lot of use of canvas cotton. We found these huge canvas dropcloths at the hardware store, and they were surprisingly soft, but sturdy, after washing them. They have a thick woven texture and take fabric dye really well. We used that for making Godzilla's pants and shirt. The cape was made of thick cotton, cut, weathered, and painted. The spine has LEDs in it that go up into the hood. His chest and hip armor is all actual leather, patterned by hand and stitched together. The chainmail on the hip armor is hand made as well. His arm and leg armor is more canvas and layers of thick fabric. His shoes are leather and layered canvas and cotton. They are made by hand, and if you look on the bottom they have a Godzilla footprint.
Tumblr media
All the "claws" on his hand armor and foot pieces are made of bamboo from the backyard. All of the woven rope pieces are cotton wrapped fleece, braided together for a thick and lightweight rope.
The sword is PVC and foam for a base. The lights are two different sets: a LED string light set, and a neopixel setup. The neopixels were soldered by hand, and are controlled by a command board that also controls a speaker. We set it to play Godzilla's roar with custom light animations. It has a plastazote foam to diffuse the lights, and then more EVA foam on top.
Tumblr media
When I saw the designs I fell in love with the props, the attention to detail, and the use of color. Plus, I have always loved Dungeons and Dragons, so putting them into that universe was such a wonderful idea. I also look for fun challenges when it comes to props, and Mothra's staff was so beautiful. I couldn't resist.
Having experience in textile studies has helped me so much with my understanding of how different fabrics work with dyes. I used a lot of dye techniques for different parts of these cosplays. Godzilla's pants and shirt were dyed, Mothra's skirt was dyed two different times, the sleeves were dyed, painted with more dye, and then painted again. I don't think I would have been able to make my Mothra cosplay the way I wanted to without that prior knowledge and experience.
The best part is the magic staff. I am so proud of how it turned out and the way the moths move makes me so happy!
The only thing that I get tired of is that occasionally I run into things with the wire wings, and the long dress can make it hard to go through crowds in convention halls.

My first dream cosplay come true!!! 😍
Tumblr media
Oh man. This is the outfit I wanted to have (buy? make?) before I ever knew cosplay was a thing people did. I mean, I knew carnaval, where people dress up as random jobs or animals and such, but character specific dress-up was not something that was explicitly done. (well, besides politicians and celebrities, but that was mostly to mock). So ever since I went to my first convention and saw the first cosplayers, I knew I wanted to finally cosplay the white mage from Final Fantasy Tactics! (my first ever Final Fantasy game as well~ )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was sewn by both me and my mum. The patterns were done by me and were a combination of existing patterns and some weird new additions. It exists out of a sleeveless long dress and a cape that was basically the sleeves, a floor-length back, a big hood and a tiny front part to close the cape. I also did most of the sewing, but tricky things like an invisible zipper, lining in the bodice part and some weird construction for the sleeves was done by her. (Since I made some… questionable construction choices, this was also the project that made her decide to enroll me for sewing classes xD )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The material is all cotton, which is both a joy to work with, but a nightmare to wash with these colours 😭 The original red cotton I used was hand-rinsed so many times, but still turned the white a little bit pinkish when first washed. The red fabric seen in the picture was the second fabric I tried (the first triangles had to be taken off, some parts deconstructed, new triangles cut, pinned and sewed on). I don’t really know if these also bled, but the damage was done anyway. (like, how do people wash their cosplays? Some designs I see have the same issue, but some even have parts that can’t be washed? Like… How??? )
Tumblr media
The staff was made that year as well, but I wasn’t too happy with it. So it got a revamp in 2020. Same base of PVC pipe and Styrofoam with paper mâché, but now with a better screwing mechanism and smoother finish. Tried some woodgrain painting as well, and I think it looks quite nice~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gloves are also new from 2020. Don’t ask beginner cosplayers/sewists to sew gloves, even with more experience it’s still a nightmare! But I finally had a good pattern, the free easy gloves pattern by So Sew Easy, which I modified a little bit. I used a brown suedine for a soft leathery finish, but a felt-like lining for thickness, which also allowed the bulky look which is typical of the FFT artwork. (of which these is also, only one reference picture xD )
Tumblr media
I wore this to Gamescom 2012 for the first time and even met a Final Fantasy female thief cosplayer, but I sadly can’t find the pictures anymore.
Check below for the one and only reference picture~

Life on the Red String: Conventional Affairs
Jin tapped his foot impatiently, folding his arms and gazing around. A bustling sea of people surrounded him, attired in all manner of colourful costumes of varying qualities. Young lads sparred with each other with shabby PVC katanas, laughing along as their barely decorated bathrobes waved with their movement; enormous space soldiers of cardboard and filament pieces took pictures with expectant fans hanging from their oversized shoulderplates; petite girls in skimpy uniforms bounced from person to person handing them pamphlets for some cosplay dance competition, or announcing an open beta test of the latest MOBA video game.
He checked his watch, observing anxiously as the line in front of the bathroom only grew longer and longer; unrest quickly noticeable amongst the populace.
He adjusted his metallised techwear jacket around his shoulders, a little custom piece he’d prepared for the occasion, its unblemished white plastic fabric glimmering a kaleidoscope under the warm neon lights shining above the multitude; on its back, a baroque motif of a crimson dragon enveloping a golden chrysanthemum with a hungry smile upon its maws. Sighing as the minutes dragged ever so longer, he yelled into the ladies’ bathroom.
“Hana! How much longer are you gonna take? We’re gonna be late!”
After a few seconds of silence, the silhouette of his wife quickly became visible amidst the bulking folk of the bathroom doors. A small, lithe woman with a gentle face and a kind smile, with sly golden eyes and long, thick auburn hair cascading down her shoulders, a hint of flustered pink painting her puffy cheeks. Small feline ears poked through her mane, lowered down to her sides in a sign of embarrassment, and her furry tail hung limp from her lower back, swinging from side to side as she waddled towards her beloved, hands gently placed over her protruding tummy, round and shapely like a beach ball.
Amidst the peculiar costuming of the people around them, Hana was no exception; she was attired in a replica of Tales of Berseria’s protagonist, Velvet Crowe. A thinly pulled magenta vest hung on for dear life to one single talisman-adorned button, revealing much of her maternal bosom, with useless black cords falling on top of her gravid stomach, left completely bare by her costume of choice. Dozens of layered belts with silvered buckles over torn black shorts and stockings, asymmetrical greaves of foam rubber pretending to be studded metal. Her right arm bore a similarly crafted gauntlet bracelet, while her left arm was completely enveloped in layered strips of white gauze; from her shoulders hung a lengthy, tattered cape, riddled with plentiful holes, her collar jagged and defying gravity thanks to a carefully placed wire in its inside.
“O-Okay, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” She stumbled up to him, her hands holding the underside of her enceinte abdomen as if poked out of her precarious animesque costume. “I-I just needed to pee.”
“Yeah, I know.” He chuckled, caressing her cheek with his thumb. “That’s what you said the last six times this morning.”
Hana pouted, her hands still cradling her overdue stomach. “Well, you try lumbering twins around all day.” She mumbled, giggling, scooting up to her husband a little bit more as she hoisted her tote bag over her shoulder. “Shall we go, dear?”
While Jin kept his hours busy with dutiful caretaking of his family’s mountaintop dojo, keeping its stone lanterns lit, its shrine gates polished and clean, and its tatami carefully dry and auspicious; Hana was a fairly successful streamer and content creator, a beloved internet celebrity with more than six million followers across a handful of platforms. Her claim to fame, beyond her immaculately beautiful face and general cozy vibes, was her passion for cosplaying; often preparing to play any kind of game by attiring herself in the design of the coolest of its playable characters.
Even her pregnancy hadn’t slowed her down; Lulu from Final Fantasy X, Kushina Uzumaki from Naruto, Jade from Warframe, even wrapping herself in the ochre jumpsuit of EVA while marathoning the Metal Gear games. No matter what got in front of her, she was a chipper and ambitious woman; and the plentiful coin her husband and her could spend on any capricious wish was a reward to her undying eagerness.
Currently, she and Jin were attending none other than BLITZCON, one of the biggest conventions for anime and video games in all of Japan, where Hana was scheduled to make an appearance at a Q&A event, doing some signings and merchandise giveaways. They were even announcing some themed cups from her collaboration with an energy drink company.
“How are you feeling, Hana?” Gently holding her gloved hand as they trudged through the multitude, Jin gazed back at her. With the tide of people that surrounded them and the constant hustle and bustle, he couldn’t deny he was a bit worried for her, and the children’s health.
The girl blushed ever so slightly in response to his gesture. “Oh, don’t worry, dear. I’m doing fine.” She softly caressed the side of her stomach, most of it left bare by her torn black outfit. Its taut surface gurgled and shifted ever so slightly as the twins reacted to the touch and the noise. “They are treating their mommy really well.”
“I’m glad to hear…” He sighed, scratching his scruffy chin. “Sorry, sometimes I get a bit worried with all this running around…”
Leaning on him to compensate the weight of her baby bump, hands on his shoulders, Hana planted a tiny kiss on his cheek, smiling cheekily. She clasped her hands together, a bright smile all over her face. “Aww- You’re always such a sweetheart, hun… I am thinking of taking a big break when the twins are born, yeah.” Her gaze trailed down to her own gravid stomach, protruding notably out of her torso like a watermelon tucked beneath her shirt. “At least six months, with some pre-recorded content I’ve prepared…”
Jin leered at his wife again, a comforting expression in his gentle cerulean eyes. A hint of blush painted his cheeks, observing gingerly how her widened hips swayed around, braless chest wobbling softly with every step she took.
“Hiii~<3!” A lovely chirpy voice chimed in from the background, breaking through the noise of the populace.
Amidst the people, waddling happily towards the couple, two equally enceinte girls waved their arms enthusiastically, their tummies jumping up and down as they greeted the lovebirds. Jin rolled his eyes, chuckling, while Hana returned the exuberant salutations.
It was none other than Ai and Cran, Hana’s best childhood friends, whom they had organised a rendezvous with.
Cran was a tall and fit woman, her svelte body sculpted by hours and hours of gymnasium; a massive ponytail of cloud-like reddish hair swung behind her, her coney ears wiggling along with her arms. Her huge rosy stomach, carrying a single child, was left bare by her attire; the ill-fitting white sweater and bronze and gold jacket of Stelle from Honkai: Star Rail, her strong thighs hugged snugly by the short skirt of the character. To avoid tripping and falling on her ass, she had omitted the high heels and clipped the ankle-length strips of gold hanging from her shoulders.
On the other hand, Ai was shorter, stouter, with a bulkier chest and squishy love handles, a result of a big sweet tooth, and a small amount of self restraint. Her own tummy, covered sans its underside by her colourful clothing, was a fair deal larger and softer than Cran’s; the ornate teal and white accented skirt of Firefly, also from Honkai, wrapped around her torso tightly, leaving almost half of her pale belly out to the wind, a baroque brown jacket and an orange sailor tie leaving a wide chunk of cleavage visible as well. Long gilded stockings clung to her chunky legs, black bike shorts making up for the shortness of her skirt; and we’re pretty sure the paper bag chock full of glazed donuts hanging off her arm wasn’t a part of the cosplay.
As best as her gravid body allowed her to, Cran jumped at Hana, gleefully wrapping her arms over her shoulders. “Hiiii! How’re you doing, lass?” She was at least a head taller than Hana, and even a bit taller than Jin. “Have you been taking your vitamins?” She smirked, her hands already firmly placed on the sides of the streamer’s stomach.
“I have, I have!” Hana giggled, shaking a little packet of supplements she extracted from her tote bag. “Jin reminds me to every single morning.”
Upon hearing his name mentioned, Jin’s cheeks grew warm; only then noticing his eyes had been completely glued to their expansive tummies as they squished and bumped against each other. For the years he had been on this earth, he had always dreamed of forming a big family together with his spouse; both for the reasons of genuinely wishing to experience parenthood and pass down his talents in martial arts, having someone take care of the dojo after he’s gone… And for his rather selfish desire of watching his wife swell up with child, becoming more and more blooming and statuesque. Her milk-laden chest surging forward, her hips spreading out to make room for the growing weight, her skin unblemished like porcelain and her hair rich and dense like a forest; his eyes were eternally drinking from her fountain of fertility, as much as it embarrassed him.
“Jin? Jin, you there?” Ai waved her ringed hand in front of his face, snickering with a mouthful of donut. “Ground Control to Jin, requesting feedback immediately.”
“A-Ah, um.” His features red as a bell pepper, he adjusted his jacket and slicked back his hair, chuckling nervously. “S-Sorry, I was just- um, watching those kids fight.” He gestured towards a couple of teenagers slashing at each other with threadbare replicas of Nioh’s one-handed blades. “Their form is horrible.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Hana chimed in, immediately seeing through her husband’s guile. Scooting up to him, pressing her maternal body against his, she gazed up at him with a knowing smile. “Should we maybe head to the food court? I’m starving.”
The rest of the ladies immediately shot up, their respective animal ears perking up at the sole mention of food.
“So… Why’re you not cosplaying, Jin?” Ai asked innocently, taking hungry bites out of a syrupy hamburger. By her side, Cran slowly unpacked one of the many bentos she’d prepared herself, lovingly packaged in colourful red or blue paper to identify whose it was.
The man raised his eyebrows, prodding at his sweet curry. “Well… I don’t really like it that much. Did it a couple times with Hana back in the day- but it’s not my kind of thing.”
“Yeah, it’s a shame.” Hana smiled, caressing her belly as she took a swig of her flasket, waiting for her omurice to cool down a little. “I still think the Bloodborne costume fit you very well~”
Jin blushed a little in response, rubbing the back of his head. “I-I mean, I’m not opposed to trying it again, but…”
His words were cut short by his wife, her tiny modest smile warping into a devious smirk. Nodding to herself, she clapped a couple times, speaking in a grand tone of voice. “Ladies! You heard him; we need ideas!”
Dark Schneider from Bastard!!, Guts from Berserk, Laios from Delicious in Dungeon, Future Trunks from Dragon Ball Z, Yasuo or Yone from League of Legends, Cu Chulainn or Sasaki Kojiro from Fate/Stay Night, Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear, Kaeya from Genshin Impact, Genji from Overwatch, Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes…
The list went on and on, dutifully jotted down by Hana as the other two girls alternated proposing names of anime pretty boys and hunky dads of fiction; Jin, who was a bit more disconnected than his partner from popular culture, mostly heard a bunch of gibberish, but kept on nodding silently, mostly interjecting little hums of appreciation when told most of those characters were skillful swordsmen.
After running out of paper in the notebook, Ai already thinking of ordering another burger, Hana leaned back, hands on her stomach, giggling to herself. “Well, now we have plans for the next BLITZCON…”
“Well, I don’t know if we’ll be able to cosplay much, actually…” Jin pursed his lips, munching politely on a chunk of tender meat. He gestured towards her gravid midriff, taking mind not to point at it with the chopsticks. “You know, with that and all.”
Hana fell silent, flushing ever so slightly. “Oh, yeah- you’re right.” She ran her hand down the curve of her belly, caressing its enormous rounded form, feeling the tiny flutters of movement of the boy and the girl that gestated inside, happily replying with kicks and punches with every bite of her omurice she took. They were apparently inheriting Hana’s childish taste in food, as opposed to Jin’s more sophisticated traditional recipes.
“Hey, you can always just wait a year.” Cran chimed in, smiling softly, a pickled apricot caught between her chopsticks. “Then, between the four of you, you can cosplay a D&D party! See? The fighter, the cleric, the rogue and the barbarian!” She chuckled, pointing at Jin, Hana, and two times at Hana’s abdomen respectively.
“Or, if there’s a surprise baby in there- you could dress up as an entire League of Legends team.” Ai added, her cheeks painted with sauce and breadcrumbs.
“Oh, dear…” Taking a single peer at her wife, Cran produced a packet of napkins from her purse, gently dabbing at Ai’s messy lips. “Sweetheart, you know the food has to go in here~” Gifting her a kind simper, she patted the girl’s burgeoning stomach, as it gurgled and sloshed hungrily. Even though there was just one baby in there, between Ai’s careless eating, her wife’s size, and her own predisposition to carry big, she almost looked like she was carrying three, her petite frame completely engulfed by the massive mound of fertile flesh.
“G-Gosh-” Her partner, her tone middling with embarrassment, played along a little bit, breathing huskily into her beloved’s fingers as she carefully wiped her face. “I-I’m sorry, I’m just… So hungry~...”
Jin and Hana exchanged a look, their faces glowing pink. With Cran and Ai, this was a normal day-to-day occurrence.
A few hours passed, the refreshing chill of the early morning almost a distant memory, the torrid heat of the Japanese summer being the only thing snaking through the vents and grills of the warehouse’s ceiling. The rising tides of colourful wigs and stylish sailor fuku uniforms had grown into a roaring bedlam, into an undying stampede of people rushing between merchandise stands, hastily getting to the next big event.
Jin and Hana held each other’s hand, wading as best as they could through the infinite walls of meat and plastic. By their side, Cran kept Ai on a tight leash, holding her close as the shorter girl tried her damndest to sneak off into one of the hundred food stands that surrounded them.
By the end of the morning, at around 2PM, Hana’s event would take place; a big meet and greet with fans, a few signings of merchandise, a handful of announcements, photo sessions, and, if time allowed it, even a competition at Blazblue where the first fan that defeated her would win a basket of surprise leftover memorabilia. But most of all, especially to the mother-to-be, it was a temporary goodbye, a disclosure of her hiatus while her family grew a couple sizes.
Her hands were sweaty.
As any observant husband would, Jin noticed, gently squeezing her hand to reassure her. He knew how much the streaming business meant to her, and he was heartbroken to see her so anxious over the future of her passion.
Amidst the maelstrom of people, overexcited fans stopped them on the way, trying to skip over the wait time and organising of the reunion event; a few bumbling teenagers timidly asked if they could feel her gurgling tummy, a strange rotund man in an outdated hat demanded a selfie with her, a few cosplayers hurriedly tucked gifts and snacks into her tote bag, and even a titanic Xenomorph of plastic and polymer politely handed her free tickets to the new Alien movie.
After half an hour of walking, the whole poor parturient ensemble groaning in discomfort with their hands upon their backs, they arrived at the organised stand.
A colossal alley of booths and repositories, full to bursting with prints and figurines of her, slabs of polystyrene bearing pins and patches depicting her stream emoticons, and a few employees with exhausted faces dragging giant boxes around; in the background, in front of a large empty area with sparsely placed folding chairs, plentiful scaffolding erected a stage, with rows of long tables doing little to conceal the inconceivably big flatscreens behind them. Cables and wires littered the carpeted floor, with Ai almost kissing the ground were it not from Cran’s sisterly rein.
Hana gazed around in surprise, fitting over her head the keycard one of the employees had given her. Jin followed suit, even noticing an expository of historical katanas had been placed as decoration near the state; but he restrained from making comments about the accuracy of their blade or hilt design.
“I-It’s… Gosh, I-I’m…” Hana stammered, Jin’s arm wrapping gently over her thin shoulders. While this wasn’t the first time she attended a convention… It was the first time she was actually treated like the celebrity she had become. She pulled on her costume’s black jacket, adjusting the wire that held its flares in place. Her eyes travelled to her middle for a moment.
Jin smiled gently at her, carefully holding her hand, rubbing her palm with his thumb. Their wedding rings, one golden and one silvered, were softly touching each other. “Look- You’re excited, right?”
Hana nodded timidly, squeezing her husband’s hand like it was going to fall off. Her other hand slowly ran up and down her ripen stomach, adjusting the strings of her shirt so they didn’t cover the wonders of the orb. “I-I’m tired, too. W-We shouldn’t have been running around all day…”
“Hey, there’s still like an hour and a half until the show. We can go to your dressing room and rest for a little if you want.”
“Y-Yeah… I would like that, thank you.”
As Ai and Cran waited outside, likely purveying the area for more food stands or eating each other’s mouths against some corner wall somewhere, Hana sank herself down on one of the bean bag chairs in the dressing room, her cloak hanging by the cupboards as she unfastened the belts under her belly and around her thighs, letting her salient gut hang out in all its expectant glory, expanding and shrinking as she breathed deeply. She groaned, stretching out her arms a bit, as she could feel her insides writhe and squirm with foetal movement.
At the other end of the room, Jin wrestled with the lock to a small refrigerated locker; after almost five minutes of grousing and cursing in his native tongue, he managed to bend the thing open, tossing a can of cola at Hana’s limply held hand.
“D-Dearie me…” She muttered, running her hands down her stomach as she took a big gulp of the fizzy drink. Her body was glistening, pearled with tiny specks of sweat, even tiny splotches of milk leaking from her enormous breasts as they strained her top to its limit. “S-Sorry, I’m just- I’m just exhausted…”
“It’s okay, dear.” Kicking the fridge shut, Jin unfolded out another plastic chair and sat down near her, cracking open another can. “Really. We’ve been up since 8AM, walking around all day, getting all this stuff done… And you’re carrying like an extra fifteen kilograms in there.”
Rubbing her stomach, the gas of the soda slowly filling her up, she could feel her abdomen expand out a few millimetres, the strain of its fertility taxing on her dorsal muscles. She breathed out shakily, a barb of discomfort running through her sides. “J-Jin, baby… C-Could you massage my tummy a bit…? I-I’m feeling super tight…”
“A-Ah, um…” Jin’s face grew as scarlet as his shrine kariginu, wiping a tiny bit of bubbling lemon soda that dripped from his lips. “O-Okay, of course…”
Leaving his jacket on the table, Jin gently kneeled down on the floor in front of his wife. From this position, lowering his head ever so slightly to be at eye level with her massive stomach, he could barely see her face; all that engulfed his view was the rippling mass of her midriff, her quivering thighs rubbing against each other, and just the tiniest bit of pink upskirt, Hana’s bandaged hand pressing its fingers against the tender skin as she rubbed it up and down.
Beneath its taut surface, hard as a rock, he could see tiny bumps emerging from its depths, lazily travelling across the breadth of her expanse, before sinking back again. Carefully, deliberately, almost as if she were to break upon being touched, he placed both of his hands on the blossoming tummy.
He slowly patted its sides, pushing gently with the tip of his fingers upon the fertile flesh, tracing tiny circles on her overinflated hind. A handful of light pinkish stretch marks dotted her underside, and her belly button, usually a dip in the tightly-fitting spandex she liked to wear, was now protruding outwards, like a cute little doorbell begging to be pressed.
With every touch, every prod, every single movement he did, an assortment of wallowing sounds emerged from the overcrowded womb; both the deep, overexerted growls of her stomach processing the many meals she’d downed over the day, and the gentle, adorable squirming of their two children, sloshing the amniotic fluid around like a tender fishbowl.
She giggled; her belly jiggling softly as she did. “M-Man, you’re making it look like I’m made out of glass…”
Without a quippy response, Jin stayed silent, shrugging his shoulders as his face only grew warmer. Perhaps out of guilty pleasure more than anything, he placed his head on the amplitude of her tummy, resting upon the sphere like it were a futon’s pillow. While rigid and unyielding beneath the surface, its tightness indicating how little remained for the pair’s birth, a thick layer of velvety fat wrapped around it, providing a very comfortable headrest with fascinating surround sound.
He planted a shy kiss on its skin, wrapping his arms around it, his hands finding each other just over Hana’s whopping behind. She chuckled awkwardly in response, caressing her husband’s head with her gloved hand, running her manicured fingers through his autumnal hair. Despite his steadfast attitude and nonchalant personality, she knew, deep down, he was an enormous softie.
“Why do I get the feeling the kids are gonna love you…?” She muttered, her voice dripping with sugar and love.
“Well, I-I certainly hope so.” He smiled, his hands glued to her midriff as he kept on massaging. “I need someone to take care of the dojo when I’m old and can’t do shit.”
Hana’s gaze hardened a little bit, a tiny flicker of anxiety in her eyes.
“Y-You think… They will approve of me?” She inquired timidly, fidgeting with a strand of her hair. “Of what I do…?” Jin looked up at her, giving her a kind, understanding nod. “Of course they will, dear. You’re their mom, they could care less about what you do.” He, again, smooched her stomach, patting a spot where a big kick had shifted its entire shape. “They’re gonna have an amazing life, all thanks to you.”
They shared a moment’s glare. Hana was unconvinced; Jin was understanding.
“In a few minutes, you’re gonna go out there, with the biggest smile you’ve ever had in your life. This is your moment.” He gently placed his hand over hers, enveloping it kindly in his warm embrace. “Your fans love you, and they’re gonna cheer like hell when they see you waddle out.”
The girl’s lips slightly part to speak, she blushed a hint or two, a bit embarrassed by her husband’s fawning.
With a couple knocks, a muffled voice chimed in from the outside. Mumbling of hundreds could be heard surrounding the condo, the multitude of loyal fans already beginning to bulk up.
“Miss Hana, we’re starting in ten minutes! Please, get ready!”
After a few seconds of silence, Hana looked down at her partner, at his gentle gaze and his supportive words. A tiny flutter of movement in her stomach took her out of her reverie as well; placing her hand on the side of her gut, she slowly heaved herself up (of course, with Jin’s help). The enceinte woman took a few moments to breath, thumping her chest with her fist.
“O-Okay! I’m on it!” She yelled out, beginning to rummage in her tote bag in search of the crown jewel of her cosplay; a long, spectacularly groomed wig, black like ink, that she had styled and prepared herself, even with little fabric pockets to slot her feline ears into.
With some hastily applied makeup and a poof of strawberry scent, the insecure young mother-to-be quickly transformed into a budding celebrity, a favourite of her platform; beloved both by fans and by her nascent family.
She could hear the claims outside, the loud voices of people that had travelled across the entire country, and even a few of them across the Pacific’s breadth, just to see her, and get the chance to get a phone case signed or a picture with her.
Hana smiled to herself, her husband rubbing her shoulders as he fitted her with her flared cape.
“C’mon. Go out there and crush it. We can go for some ice cream later.”
“You promise?” She turned her head back; an excitable kid’s genuine smile plastered all over her face.
“I promise.”

Meet Han Ye in the Rain (Official)
Following up yesterday's I See You Han Ye in the official series of figs released for The Legend of An Le, we have Gong Jun's second Han Ye figure.
I was really excited about this fig because Gong Jun looked unbelievably gorgeous in his weimao:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So beautiful! Gorgeous outfit, delightful scenes. There's few things I love more than a weimao - they're just so spectacularly dramatic.
Tumblr media
This set came with the fig and the separate hat with veil.
Tumblr media
The hat traveled over it's own hat form, which I was very grateful for - I think the PVC would have definitely deformed with the travel and the summer heat without it.
Tumblr media
I'm going to do a round of pics with him first without the weimao, since otherwise there's a lot of detail you'd miss seeing!
Tumblr media
The detail on the costume here is quite nice. Once again, they don't do any kind of print detail on the PVC, only color, which is too bad given how gorgeous the fabrics are.
Tumblr media
There's enough going on with this outfit though to give it a lot of interest and charm.
Tumblr media
I'm pretty impressed with how they molded this fig - if he didn't have his hands up like this, he could really just be a stand alone fig without the hat as well. It wouldn't feel like something was missing.
Tumblr media
I really love the sense of movement here.
Tumblr media
More of that continues on here, with the wind blowing his hair and cape off to this side.
Tumblr media
I also like the detail they did on his belt and sleeves.
Tumblr media
And of course, we get his jade waist ornament! I had to scroll up to see what the other thing was on his belt. It looks like a small medicine bottle of some sort.
Tumblr media
Like all their other figs, we get the dual branding of Tofu and Koitake on the bottom of the boots.
Tumblr media
This is the first time I'm paying any attention to what his guan looks like - it's hard to focus on anything but his beautiful face in these scenes!
Tumblr media
They gave us a nice, long cord to tie on his weimao. It wasn't particularly easy with my big clumsy fingers - I struggled with the cord not having enough tension to tight it tightly enough under his chin. Finally I had to have my husband hold the cord snug up against his neck with the end of a spoon handle so I could tie up the knot.
Tumblr media
I didn't want to snip off the cord ends (what if they unraveled and I could never get it back?) but finally I just took a deep breath and cut them off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks good! It sits pretty decently on - it's not super solid, but neither does it feel like it's about to fall off at any given moment. It's more solid than not, if that makes sense.
Tumblr media
I like this weimao a lot - it looks very different from any other fig I have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, the 30 picture max went by so quickly! I had some more detailed pics but no more room. Hopefully the ones that are there gave decent detail.
Material: PVC
Fig Count: 460
Scene Count: 31
Rating: Bashful beauty

San and Ashitaka Build
Tumblr media
This pile (well, there's other stuff mixed in there) is in fact the San and Ashitaka costumes I built earlier this year. I tried to do a vaguely historical approach to shapes and materials since the film is also vaguely historical, but I used modern sewing because I barely know how to sew in general. This is also why I started with the bow.
Tumblr media
To make a fake bow, for some reason I didn't like the usual PVC option, so I decided to make a long noodle out of EVA foam, carve it into shape with a craft knife, then add exaggerated wood texture with a wood burning tool. That then got covered in Worbla and painted with several layers of acrylic + a leather strap glued for a hand grip. The bow's 'string' is just thick elastic cord.
Tumblr media
Arrows are dowel rods cut to length with EVA foam points at one end and foam fletching at the other. I accidentally made all his arrows the samurai's arrows (oops) and have no idea why I felt the need to not use real feathers. The quiver is just a muslin bag, pretty boring lol.
Tumblr media
His sword is balsa wood and a napkin ring all glued together then covered in Worbla (featured here by another costume's progress). The blade and ring got spray painted metallic, the handle got a leather wrap like the bow. The sheath is just a foam box wrapped in fake suede, not really worth an action shot.
Tumblr media
Ashitaka's (happi? haori? not really sure) took two attempts and still doesn't quite fit, oops. I dyed the fabric to a shade I liked, then used a YT tutorial on making the coat. His pants were bought online, and I made a lil pouch for his mysterious dried rations.
Tumblr media
I fully just kind of made the sleeve happen; sketched a shape, cut it out, then continued adding scraps until I got something that fit okay.
Tumblr media
Delicious bowl cut...his wig was a struggle, since I needed it to be rough and basic but not Lord Faarquad. It came out okay, but it truly is giving home haircut from the 80s.
Tumblr media
Let's switch to San! Most of her clothes were bought, and I made the accessories. So this giant pile of fur will turn into a separated cape and hood. You may notice two tones of color there: I chose a longer Mongolian fur for the outside and a shorter Sherpa for the inside, because no one likes to see the raw inside of fake fur. There are curtain weights sewn into the paw shapes and front drapes of cape and hood to help them not fall back.
Tumblr media
For most of San, I used Kinpatsu Cosplay's patterns as the base, and adjusted them to be slightly more masculine (and a lot longer) to fit my San. The apron was made of linen and hemmed so the outer edges can fray over time. We'll get to weathering in a minute (I did not take many WIP pics during making all of this).
Tumblr media
I made the mask really round and the eyes slightly farther apart to up the uncanniness of it. The mask and ears got base coated in black matte acrylic, then color slowly added using sea sponge.
Tumblr media
The dagger was made of a mix of foam and balsa wood that got glued together, then covered in Worbla. I spent way too long staring at the movie to decide the arrow shapes on the blade were raised rather than recessed. The blade got spray painted metallic, the arrows hand painted red, the pommel spray painted black. The handle got a leather strap wrap.
Tumblr media
Her necklace was a mix of wood and stone beads, and three toofs made of some very crusty foam clay I had sitting around. They got formed and dried around paintbrushes to make the stringing hole, sanded, then painted with acrylic to get that old tooth look. San's wig was basically used out of the bag, and her accessories were just foam wrapped in fabric with shell beads glued on.
Tumblr media
Weathering, the second most fun part of this build! I used a mix of dry brushing on acrylic paint in various brown and tan tones, spraying/splattering with a strong black tea, and using an airbrush to add dirt and wear to everything. A lot of edges and corners also got sanded to soften them and look less crisp and new.
Tumblr media
And then we got fancy professional photos! If you're in Texas, check if Wild Momo Photography is heading to your con. She's fantastic, truly. Hope you enjoyed reading through this journey, and it's potentially helpful if you're building your own cursed prince and wolf girl.
