stumbled across bbc atlantis on iplayer and holy shit. this show was something. they crammed it so full of recogniseable figures from greek mythology like medusa, hercules, the minotaur and then said "oh yeah and pythagoras is here too. the guy with the triangle theory. he is also here. and he's traumatised and autistic". then in the second season they said "oh, he's gay and his boyfriend is icarus btw"

they made a highly famous mathematician into an overly anxious gay loser and then, to quote that one post about dead boy detectives, they tossed him at tumblr like a wedding bouquet

I love every version where icarus and apollo were tragic lovers but to me personally icarus is hopelessly in love with his best friend a twink nerd mathematician named pythagoras

Okay so I have been here before, having a 2 frame clip that made me go insane and its for a pairing that isn’t even popular (and I have no idea why because they’re canon but the show was cancelled even though s2 was way better and it had found its feet and yeah I’m still bitter)   They’re Icarus and Pythagoras from BBC Atlantis (pythacarus is the ship name and man I miss my blog for them I accidentally deleted it years ago because I’m a dumbass)

Here’s a vid of a few I made on this pairing for anyone interested (and because they deserve so much more love and attention than they get...the pairing not my mediocre vids lol)

Their love story was so well done, it had angst and romance and slow burn and was beautifully understated and just *there*. And before we even got to their story in the 2nd season we had a 2 second gif of a forehead touch in the trailer that just inspired us all so much and we wrote fanfic and had headcanons all over this small scene where we had zero context (and at that point it wasn’t absolutely clarified that it was gonna be a love story) but later the actors just kept releasing tidbits which all built it up and finally, watching their love story unfold and become canon (as they kissed) is a night I’ll never forget asfghjk

I mean they had dialogue like “You mean everything to me” “May the Gods be with you” They counted the stars from a rooftop together, they were SO SOFT with each other (and the actors both liked my tweet I sent them about how beautiful their portrayal was) 

and it was just so special and now I’m feeling it all over again with the kiss between Aziraphale and Crowley, my heart and imagination is running wild (and I’m an angst queen so would like a little bit of delicious angst) And I can’t stop thinking about how Crowley PULLS HIM IN and Aziraphale has his eyes closed and I’m just HFBGDSHFVGADSHFGA

So yeah I need all the fics and headcanons I can get about this leak and what everyone thinks will happen because I cannot wait until July!

Repressed uneducated little 15-16 year old me watching Atlantis as it aired: wow Jason sure is attractive, I can't believe men are actually able to kiss one another that's pretty cool, time to think about this a lot but never watch this again for no discernible reason

Queer as fuck 23 year old me, watching Atlantis for the first time since then: Jason is gender goals, he and Medusa are both hot but not in that way, that kiss was everything, I'm experiencing the non-binary urge to change my name to Pythagoras, what the hell have I been doing avoiding this show

you mean to tell me that the writers of bbc merlin went on to make bbc atlantis; a show with a canon gay couple that had their first kiss when one of them is at the brink of death and being held by the person that meant everything to them; a show with tearful betrayal scenes that double as confessions, lines like [talking about love] “it’s not in the words, it’s in the eyes”, and 200 different cinematic parallels to merlin and you tell me that none of the subtext in merlin was intentional? ok then

You know whats sad, that BBC Atlantis season 2 had one of the most beautiful, understated CANON romantic love stories between two men and no one EVER talks about it.

I loved Pythagoras and Icarus I had a whole ass blog here for them (until I accidentally deleted it asdfghjkl) and the way they were written and developed was so natural, so real that it’s one of the best couples I have seen on TV. I don’t like rep that is forced or just done for the sake of it because tbh I find that insulting for everyone. But when it’s true to the show and characters and it’s just there, which it was for Pythagoras and Icarus, then that has far more impact imo.

Atlantis introducing a gay couple in the very last episode hoping to be renewed when everyone knows fully well one person in the couple will definitely die if that happens.
