@chantymarostica #tranniversary party was hands down the most special show I will see @jfl42 it was such a important night with all the @qapd_lgbtq I have watched this amazing collective grow from the beginning and it’s just getting started. Hosted by @aliceroselaughs and @beebertrand13 with a killer sets by my #wcws @sarahnashby and @rushkazi the night concluded with Chanty’s Brother teaching him to shave. It was such an affirming performance of gender in the best way. Chanty is a good man and truly lives the philosophy if you lift your community up everyone succeeds. Before I do my coverage of the #iheartjokesawards I can’t pretend like this didn’t happen it did. I will let Chanty explain in their own words. Posted @withrepost • @chantymarostica I’m really glad I worked my ass off to build my own comedy community. Today I don’t feel that I belong to or am welcome in the “real” one. A comic I thought was my friend mocked me publicly for being a proud loud out trans man and advocate for the freedom and visibility of my trans siblings and also mocked me for the violent transphobia I experienced at a comedy festival. A festival that still hasn’t acknowledged what happened, or apologized for the hateful way I was dragged while working for them. I’m just glad my gaybies sat through last nights “Award Show” and were like “what is happening??” because all they experience is support and love and the freedom to share their stories in the community I created for them. I walked across and then laid on coals for my community to to be able to walk safely through the landscape that is Canadian comedy. I receive threats and hate daily for just trying to be myself. Don’t mourn the things you’re not “allowed” to make fun of anymore.
