Yoooo Countess Alexa ftw!!! This scene was crazy. I decided to started reading Queen Cecia’s Shorts because of a tumblr rec, so it only seems appropriate to pay that forward. Read this webtoon! It is so good! Especially if you are a sucker for a cross dressing female lead like I am.

With 99 nations conquered and the cup of the ruler in her hands… you’d think she was off to a heroic conquest, but the great queen’s Cecia’s real concern was her uncomfortable corset? The queen of Valencia suffered from complicated laces and heavy corsets, and thus ordered her trusted brother, Duke Aenon Lionheart to bring her a comfortable clothes. Meanwhile, Yuri, a clothing designer was killed in an accident after suffering from a small minimum wage at a medium-sized clothing company in Korea. She was reborn in a medieval country ruled by Cecia. Yuri vowed to revolutionize the outdated clothing dilemma, so she dressed up as a man and worked as a designer at the top of the continent’s highest court to do easy business. But… what happens when Ennon discover’s Yuri’s true identity…?
Read through Chapter 128. Read on kunmanga (Pocket Comics doesn't translate all the details, it seems. The KM translation is, I think, from bibimanga)
DAMN. DAMN DAMN DAMN. This story is really fun! Kind of drags at times, and honestly kind of lame at times (not necessarily boring, but not necessarily interesting), and kind of makes choices sometimes that I don't agree with, but it is a pretty fun ride. The ML is pretty enjoyable (not only because he has a little gay panic for a while there), but their romance is never the most important part of the story, which is nice. It takes a long time for them to get together (like, 90-something chapters? Which is how long it takes Yuri's crossdressing secret to be revealed), though a bit plain to be honest. Their relationship is cute. I appreciate how it is established by Yuri as soon as she realizes Lesta's feelings for her, that they aren't reciprocated, and how she thinks it's strange that he fell in love with her given their large age gap. I'm sort of torn on it, not because I wanted him to be the ML (I never saw anything truly romantic between them), but because MC, by her own admission, is probably older than *he* is, if it takes into account both her memory of her past life, as well as the life she has lived in the current life. But, to her defense, she never SAYS he's creepy about it, and admits that he's very good at not crossing boundaries. It's kind of interesting to see how I, myself, have grown from when I was young; as a youngster, I would've shipped them and hated Aenon. Anyway, as for other things I like about the series: I REALLY liked how the topic of marriage for women back then was handled, and how it showed just how many different reasons women had for not wanting to get married. I especially related to Arsinoe, who wanted a husband who would take care of hard things for her, since she was never taught how to care for them. I do a disservice to her by explaining it like that, but it's a lot more involved than that and this paragraph is getting long. Anyway, I also REALLY, REALLY loved the Queen, Cesia. She was stunning, her personality was fantastic, she was amazing... I loved her. I... was kind of sad that it seemed like she never actually tried to be in any bloody battles, but that's a small gripe. Other gripes I have with the series: Yuri spearheading ALL sorts of industries, from zippers, to rubber goods, to condoms, to tampons... I don't know, it wasn't necessarily unrealistic, considering how Yuri was aware of tampons and used them in her past life, and how she was around zippers in her everyday life back then, so those two make sense, but what would she know of how to make condoms and rubber goods? My other gripe, and the biggest gripe of the series... is that Cesia and Yuri never get together. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I never expected they would. But... *DAMN* they would've been wonderful together!!! Their relationship was fantastic, everything from the way Yuri looked up to the Queen, to the way the Queen looked out for Yuri, and the way she always doted on Yuri, too.... I wish so, so desperately this had been a WLW comic. There were so many moments where the Queen and Yuri could've been together. Cesia LITERALLY confessed to Yuri and wanted to marry her (back when she thought Yuri was a man)!!!! God. I don't know. Knowledge that something will never happen doesn't mean that you can't still wish it would.
Anyway, would read to the end... IF SOMEBODY WOULD FUCKING TRANSLATE IT. I know there's at least two more chapters released in... Indonesia? I think? But no English upload that I could find. I looked over the upload, and I have at least a vague idea of what happened, but I don't know beyond that. Also, I'm not sure if those two chapters were the END of the series or just the end of the season. The author included art from other people (workers? or other artists?), which I don't usually see at the end of seasons, but who knows? But if that's the end of the series, then there's a lot of stuff left unfinished.... Well, whatever. Hopefully I get to finish it some day.

i love aenon (him struggling with his perceptions abt the world is👌👌) but rereading this chapter... Yeah he deserved that 8-month expedition. In the scanlations I didn't read it as the queen punishing him (it sounds more like she was griping and sent him out on a whim), but now that I read the official translation it's clear that this is a form of punishment (and that he's quite offensive to her, actually)

Queen Cecia's Briefs 54
Ennon questions why appearances is important, and gets lectured by Yuri, the tailor.
Who do you think you're talking to, mister? Did you forget what I do for a living? Does what I do seem pointless to you? (...) Never have I thought my work meaningless, nor have I thought I was only masking someone's poor character. Clothes are important, your grace. More than people think. If it weren't, then why are you here putting on a cravat, instead of wearing the usual potato sack yo ucall clothes? Am I wrong? I'm not saying we should judge everyone by their appearances; I'll give you that. But, your grace, do you think her majesty wore that particular outfit on the first night? She would have looked good no matter what she wore, isn't that right?
You think I'm saying this to get an apology? How we present ourselves is important. We all know her majesty is beautiful, but are you aware that she can portray a different image depending on how she dresses? When she went out to the lake, she made herself look warm and innocent. And it was thanks to that that the single ladies were able to approach her and warm up to her. Now, think about how she looked at the banquet. Did she look friendly and approachable to you? (...) Rather, you could say I know exactly how she looked, since she was molded into an image I created in my head. I made her that night, not into a beautiful queen, but a fearsome conqueror. That was my work, and that is what I do.
At the risk of offending you, I will say this. What you do and I do is not so different, your grace. You, me, and even the queen. Promoting images, establishing identities to serve a purpose, and making people happy; These are what I do, you grace. It is no different from politics. Your grace, is it so wrong to want to cover up your flaws? To want to seem better to other people? To want them to like you a little more? I took time today to part my hair and wear pretty clothes. Even though I'm not so good-looking, like you or the empress. Does that make me a bad person?

Title:: Empress Cesia Wears Knickerbockers (Queen Cecia's Shorts)
Genre:: manhwa, comedy, drama, romance, historical/medieval, slice of life, gender bender, fashion, female empowerment, isekai, reincarnation
Summary::
Queen Cesia had taken over 99 nations and is now ruling justly… there’s only one thing that she hasn’t conquered and that’s her wardrobe. Tight corsets, uncomfortable frills, puffy sleeves that are in the way, etc. Not being able to take anymore, Cesia orders her adoptive younger brother Duke Aenon to go out and find the most comfortable but also suitable for a queen fashions.
Meanwhile, seven years prior, young poor commoner Yuri climbed to the top of a statue to watch a parade on main street when she lost her grip and fell. From the hit on the head, Yuri remembered her past life as a modern slave to a fashion company. Since recalling her past life, she decided that she will use that knowledge as a tailor to better her life and change this world's fashion for the better! And gain wealth in the process! She travels to another town where there is a high end fashion guild and demands to see the owner. After proving herself worthy of a partnership, she is given a stipulation. She must dress as a male for the success of the business.
Status:: ongoing
Warnings:: none
My Notes:: The humor!! Yuri often uses modern jargon and terms that just confuses everyone making it hilarious! Like an inside joke the readers have with the character. Also I don’t recommend reading comments for this story as the majority prefers the 2nd ML and often bashes the real ML. While the romance is there… it is also not the focus or driving point of the story. The focus is Yuri and the Queen living the life they want and how they get there, which is a very interesting change from what I’ve been reading lately and it is much appreciated!
Official English:: on PocketComics
