Animal of the Day!
Southern Lapwing (Vanellus chilensis)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southern Central America; South America
Size (Weight/Length)- 400 g; 35 cm
Diet- Small fish; Insects; Crustaceans; Mollusks
Cool Facts- Also called the quero-quero in Brazil and the queltehue in Chile, the southern lapwing is a small wading bird found throughout wet grassland. The southern lapwing’s fossil record goes back to the late Pleistocene alongside much larger mastodons and megafauna. Today, they’ve made a home in cattle land. Chasing after herds of cattle, southern lapwings catch insects that the cows stir up. Southern lapwings tend to be monogamous and encourage older offspring sticking around to help raise newer chicks. Extremely defensive, both the chicks and parents will try to chase predators and humans alike away from their nests.
Rating- 13/10 (Ah, yes, look at that birb. What a lovely birb.)

Quero-Quero (2024). Tapari, Santarém, Pará, Brasil. Outra ave arisca, e, de novo, uma das poucas fotos que consegui tirar dela.
Southern Lapwing (2024). Tapari, Santarém, Pará, Brazil. Another skittish bird, and, again, one of the few photos I managed to take of it.

A exaustão emocional é bem pior do que o cansaço físico, porque dormir não adianta quando é a alma que está cansada.
