Long Distance Love - Part 4: An Unusual Date

Author's note: I know this took me forever to finish but, I did! This is my last submission to @choicesnovchallenge2021 and from the OTP ask I received a while ago. One last thing: if you’re a Twilight fan, you might not going to like this fic. Sorry not sorry [Original characters are creations of this author. The phone buzzed on the side table, waking Hamid from his peaceful slumber. As his left hand rubbed his eyes, he considered ignoring it and going back to sleep. Just then, his alarm clock song played and he remembered why he had to wake up early on a Saturday morning. He then turned off the alarm, got out of bed and left the master bedroom.

As he stepped into the living room, Hamid greeted his housekeeper, thanking her for setting up breakfast on the coffee table. He then tapped his phone screen a couple times and made a video call.

"Günaydın, bir tanem!¹" Daphne beamed and waved to the the screen.

"Good evening, my dove." He smiled at the screen, his eyes drinking in every possible detail he could see. "I see your new winter pyjamas arrived today."

"Yes! It's so warm and soft. And look at this!" She pulled the hood of her Totoro pyjamas by its long furry ears.

He chuckled. "You look adorable."

"Thank you. Did you sleep well?"

"I did. I was having the nicest dream about cuddling my girlfriend when the alarm woke me up."

"You thought about going back to sleep, didn't you?"

"Yes, but then I remembered I had a date."

“Aw… I miss you."

"I miss you too, aşkım²."

"So... What would we have for breakfast if I was there with you?"

He switched to the rear camera and showed her to the table. "This would be our breakfast," he said as he grabbed a croissant.

"Wow, Mrs. Meral outdone herself! My mouth is watering.” She moved closer to the screen. “But I think she missed your chai."

"I'm not drinking chai this morning," he answered before switching cameras again and lifting a cup of cappuccino to his lips.

"Why not? You love chai in the morning."

"I do... But cappuccino reminds me of how kissing you tastes like when we have breakfast together."

Her eyes welled up and she looked away.

"Aşkım."

"Yes?"

"Did you forget what we agreed for this date?"

"No crying because both of us would be sad. But I didn't expect you to say that..." She replied, brushing away a tear.

"You're right. I'm sorry."

"Don't be. That was really sweet."

"I'm glad you think so. Now you tell me what we would have for dinner if I was there with you."

She lifted a large hamburger stuffed with lamb meatballs and his favorite beer and smiled coyly. "I was coming back from uni, passed by that one restaurant you like and I pictured you so stoked about having a Turkish dish for dinner, arriving here with a brown bag full of köfte burgers... I miss that..."

"Me too..." He smiled wistfully.

"I'm ruining our date again..."

The two of them chuckled.

"Let's change the subject then. Have you thought about the movie we will watch? It's your turn."

"I did. But I was thinking we could try something different this time. How about we roast/watch a movie we both hate?"

"A movie we both hate?" He raised an eyebrow. "I'm intrigued... What's your pick?"

"Open quickflix on your laptop. I'm sending you the invitation now."

As he turned on his laptop and opened the streaming service app, a notification popped on the screen. When he accepted the invitation, a chat room opened and a poster of Twilight showed up.

"What do you think?"

"I think you're trying to get me in trouble."

"Why? Did Malak sleep in the guest room of your flat again?"

"Yes."

"But she won't wake up any time soon. I saw her posting on Pictagram around 3 am. Briar is in the next room with Arthur very much awake and she might hear me."

"They get easily distracted with each other."

"Exactly. That's why we should watch it now."

"I don't know... This is a dangerous idea. Nesrin is coming here and she's much worse than Malak. Not even her husband could convince her to step away from Twitter after a random person said Edward is emotionally constipated."

"This stranger wasn't wrong..."

"I know, but shhhh..."

Daphne giggled. "Come on... You can survive a little yelling."

"All right, but if they get violent, I'm blaming it on you."

"Okay. If something happens, we abort our mission," she answered with a grin and pressed play.

As the movie started, the couple placed their phones in holders to start digging into their meals and went silent for a few minutes. But it didn't take long until they started talking.

"I don't understand why people are so crazy about her. Bella is so boring."

"She's the pretty new girl. People from small towns might find that appealing, don't they?"

"In real life, that would mean becoming the new target for bullies. Especially with that awesome personality of hers."

"You just described every single teenager movie about high school."

"I know, right?" She giggled. "Oh, man! Look at R. Patz hair..."

"A hair higher than the sky with its own supernatural power of resisting the humid weather of Forks."

"Jealous?"

"A little."

The couple snickered and took their time to watch some more and eat.

"Get ready, Hamidciğim. Their meet cute scene is coming."

"Is there a meet cute in Twilight?"

"Yep." Daphne nodded with a devilish smile. "Wait for it."

On the screen, the main character walked into the classroom and a fan spread her smell in the air, making her love interest cover his nose.

"There it is!"

The two of them laughed.

"How romantic..."

"His reaction is so strange though. Isn't the 'you intrigue me, yet you smell delicious and I want to drain all the blood from your body in one single bite' his entire conflict in this movie?"

"Precisely."

"Then how come his reaction is like 'my goodness, girl! Go get a shower'?"

Hamid threw his head back as he laughed out loud.

"Hey, I made a joke, but I kinda want a serious explanation. I only know Jacob's side of things."

"Then you're fortunate you've never witnessed a Jella versus Bedward fight."

"You have?"

"I still have scars to prove it."

Daphne giggled.

"Anyway..." He cleared his throat. "According to Nesrin, Bella's smell is a constant reminder to Edward he's a murderer, that his need for human blood is big part of who he is. So that's why he initially feels repulsed by her presence."

"So his reaction to bloodlust is repulsion?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

"That's disappointing..."

"It's not how other pieces of media portray bloodlust, otherwise it wouldn't be a book and movie saga sold for teenagers."

"That's true. I prefer Dracula from Bram Stoker and the movies based on Anne Rice books. But I had to hide in the attic to watch them because none of them are suitable for minors. And it's not just because of the violence."

"Bella's physical reaction to the bite though..."

The couple chuckled and had some more of their meals. Just then, the main character and her love interest began an argument in the hospital. Daphne grimaced as she stared at the screen.

"Are you okay, aşkım?"

"I'm not sure..." She lifted her beer to her lips, as in an attempt to get rid of a bad taste in her mouth. "Did he really just said 'nobody's going to believe you?'"

"Yes."

"Oh, god..." She shook her head. "How is this relationship seen as romantic?"

"I don't know. I asked the same thing to my sisters and both of them said it's not that bad because 'the line isn't used in a context of sexual abuse'."

"But it doesn't matter! It still is abusive."

"Exactly! Thank you!" He sighed in relief. "I knew I fell in love with you for a reason."

She giggled, but then averted her gaze for a moment.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah. I saw a shadow near my door, but it was just Drake."

The dog immediately plopped on her lap and she idly scratched his fur.

"Are you scared of getting caught mocking Edward's hair, aşkım?"

"More like 'not willing to argue once again with my best friend about how Bella Swan has the charisma of a mushroom'."

He chuckled. "You say it because you never watched Fifty Shades of Grey."

"You did?"

"Veronica, Yusuf and a former girlfriend kept talking about it. I wanted to know what the fuss was about."

"And...?"

"The theme is appealing, but the execution was terrible. Besides, the author didn't explore some of the best parts of BDSM."

"Oh, I have soooo many questions about that.”

“Of course you do.” He smirked.

“But let's go back to Twilight because there's something we need to talk about."

As a scene in a green room began, another spat between the main character and her love interest started.

"Did you know that was kind of an attempt to emulate Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's dynamic?"

Hamid choked on his cappuccino for a second. He switched to a glass of water then cleared his throat. "Excuse me?!"

Daphne covered her mouth as she giggled.

"I demand an explanation, Daphne."

"Okay. Observe the dynamic between them for a moment. He's a handsome jerk and she's supposed to be the beautiful main character with the strong personality who constantly defies him. And for some reason, they still feel drawn to each other."

Hamid made a face. "I guess you have a point..."

"But of course, Elizabeth and Darcy's dynamic is poorly executed in Twilight. Edward never changes and reveals himself as a guy who has a heart of gold like Mr. Darcy. He continues to be just a good looking jerk throughout the entire saga. In spite of it, Bella still falls in love with him because the truth is she doesn't need him to change. She's in love with the idea of Edward she made up in her head. And the Edward in her head is perfect."

His forehead creased. "This must be the best definition of Bella and Edward's relationship I've ever heard. It reminds me of Tristan and Isolde opera."

"Does it?" Daphne then narrowed her eyes. "You'd better elaborate that because if you ruin Richard Wagner for me, I'll rat you out to your sisters." She pursed her lips.

"You almost ruined Jane Austen for me and I can't ruin a Wagner opera?" He tsked.

"Elaborate!" She demanded.

"Okay.” He nodded. “Along the series, Bella and Edward follow the same pattern Tristan and Isolde did. They're willing to make the biggest sacrifices and even die for each other, but they don't love each other. Because, like Tristan and Isolde, they don’t know each other that well. And when they do, they don’t seem to understand each other or make any efforts to do so. They love the idea of love, of being in love, but they're not truly in love."

"Oh my goodness, it's so true!" But as realisation hit her, Daphne grimaced. "Oh, god, the Romeo and Juliet reference... Ugh, Hamidciğim! You ruined a Wagner opera and Shakespeare for me!" She whined.

"I take responsibility for Wagner, but Shakespeare wasn't my fault. Stephanie Meyer did that on her own." He raised his hands defensively.

"You know what? I'm ratting you out to your sisters."

"Aşkım..." He fake pouted.

"I don’t care how cute your pouty face is. I'm telling on you."

Just then, she leaned to the side and a pillow appeared on the screen.

"Daphne?"

"Are you trash talking about Bella again?!"

Daphne feigned shock at the accusation. "Who? Me?"

"Is that Briar?"

"Yes."

*"Who are you talking to?!"*

"Abort mission?"

"Is that Hamid?"

"For both of our sakes, yes."

Daphne bit down her lip as she tried to suppress a laugh and another pillow flew next to her.

"Well, that was fun while it lasted..." He joked.

"Oh, it's fine. We can continue later."

"I cannot believe you’re trash talking about Bella with Hamid!" Briar yelled.

"Okay, I think I have to go now."

Daphne giggled and waved to him.

As he ended the call, Malak walked into the room wearing an old T-shirt with the cover of Twilight first movie. "Morning, abi³!"

He looked up and closed the laptop. "Good morning."

"Are you working on a Saturday?" She sat next to him and grabbed a croissant.

"I doubt that. He looks suspiciously happy and we have croissants for breakfast instead of simit and cheese," Sevim chimed in, plopping herself on the sofa.

"I was on a movie date."

"I knew it!" Sevim smiled proudly and grabbed a croissant.

"But it was too fast. You guys usually talk until the battery of both of your phones die." Malak arched an eyebrow.

"Daphne had to leave."

"Aw, that's too bad..." Malak then smiled at the housekeeper, who placed a tray with chai for the girls. "What were you two watching?"

"Romeo and Juliet."

"The 1996 version? Oh, I love that movie! Some of the lines remind me so much of New Moon."

"Don't I know it..." He mumbled.

"What?"

"Nothing. Wanna watch a movie?"

"Sure!"

"Then I'm picking! I've had it with those sappy romances you like." Sevim grabbed the remote control and turned on the TV.

"Hey!" Malak protested. "Why is she so annoying?"

Fighting back a chuckle, Hamid finished his breakfast glad that, despite the distance, he had a fun date with his girlfriend.

The Curious Case Of The Fur Babies

Author's note: Today is the birthday of one of my favorite people here and I wrote this for her. @thequeenchoices migaaaaaaaaaaa! Happy birthday! I know I owe you Hayden x MC Christmas fluff, but here's something else I've been working on. [Leading characters are owned by Pixelberry Studios and original characters are creations of the author] Book: Perfect Match Pairing: M!Hayden Young x F!MC (Natasha) Rating: T Word count: 1307 Summary: Hayden is a little worried about his pet child behavior lately. But his certainly not ready to fin out what is going on with Dipper.

A salty and fresh oily smell spreads in the air while Natasha turns off the stove burner and pours melted butter over the bowl of popcorn. Movie nights with Hayden became more common than either of them expected once life returned to normalcy in New York. Given how their lives were turned upside down after they started dating, normal and boring days may be just what they need.

Picking up the bowl, Natasha returns to the living room and takes a seat next to her boyfriend, who's looking through the options in the movies catalog of the streaming app.

"Okay, popcorn and drinks are ready. Now tell me what we're going to watch," said Natasha.

"Twilight saga."

She doubles over. "Really?"

"I know online reviews and people nowadays say it's a terrible story. But it has been trending on Quickflix for weeks. It kinda made me curious."

"Well, when you put it that way…" Natasha ponders about it as she pours orange juice in her glass.

"So, is it a yes?"

She nods.

"Awesome!" Hayden smiles proudly, picks up the remote control and presses play.

Along the movie, the couple comments on a few scenes and laugh. Still, Hayden's eyes eventually land on the corner of the room, where his border collie sleeps soundly. Between the second and third movie, he makes a beeline for the corner, then crouches down to pet the dog.

"Babe?"

"Yeah?"

"Everything okay?"

Taking his time to respond, he stands up and returns to the couch. "I don't know… Don’t you think Dipper's behavior is strange lately?"

"How so?"

"She sleeps a lot, she gets tired easily and she's cranky sometimes. Normally, she would be with us here, interrupting the movie to play, asking to be petted, sleeping here near me." He looks down his hands then glances at the dog still sleeping.

“Hmm…” Natasha looks away, lost in thought.

“What?”

“It’s probably nothing, but I noticed she’s eating a lot lately. She threw up this morning…”

"Ugh..." Hayden whines.

"We should take her to the vet. Maybe it’s nothing, but we can’t be too careful, right?”

"Yeah, I guess…" His shoulders slump as he sinks into the couch.

"You know what?" Natasha stands up. "We should go right now."

"Now?" He stares as his girlfriend in confusion. "But how about the movies?"

"Dipper's health is more important. Go get your wallet and her documents while I get her travel bag."

Hayden nods in agreement and quickly grabs everything he needs to take his dog to the vet.

Later that day

"I'm sorry… Dipper is what now?" Hayden asks as he tries to absorb what he just heard.

"Your dog is pregnant, Mr. Young," the veterinarian says with a smile.

Hayden sinks into the chair near the gurney where Dipper lies down, letting out a yawn as she rests her head on her pet parent's hand.

"Really?!" Natasha grins.

"Yes. Though she didn't cooperate during abdominal palpation, all her signs check and her blood test came out as positive," the vet explains.

"Yeah, sorry about that, Dr. Sanders. Usually, Dipper is more docile." Natasha simpers.

"It's alright, Miss Park. Some dogs experience these mood swings during pregnancy. She's definitely not the first dog that doesn't like palpation exams."

"Can we know how far long is she?" Natasha asks.

"Well, she hasn't gained much weight yet, but she already has vaginal discharge, so I'd say she's about a month pregnant."

"Does it mean she'll deliver in a month?" Hayden inquires.

"Something like that. We should take Dipper to the other room where we can confirm her pregnancy through the ultrasound," the vet says.

"Sure. Let's do it!" Natasha beams.

"Excellent. I'll see if the exam room is ready and be right back."

"Thank you, Dr. Sanders."

"Of course. I’ll give you three a minute."

As the veterinarian leaves, Natasha turns to the dog with a broad grin. "Giiiiirl! You're going to have fur babies!" She cheers and pets the dog, who wags her tail.

Her pet parent, on the other hand, still seems somewhat lost, fiddling with the ends of his scarf.

"Hayden? Are you okay?"

He gives his shoulders.

Natasha approaches her boyfriend and cups one side of his face. "What's going on, babe?"

"It's nothing. I'm just trying to understand how."

"You know how..." She gives him a knowing look.

"Fine…” He makes a face. “But when?! She never leaves my side when we go out for walks. She only was in heat once. Then Sloane told me Dipper was in estrous cycle last month. I think..." He scratches his head in confusion. "I should have scheduled her spaying sooner…" He says, running his thumb between the dog's sleepy eyes.

"Babe, we had a lot going on ever since we returned to New York. You're getting your engineering degree, you decided to move out and live by yourself. Then I moved in…" She smiles softly, caressing his cheek. "You heard what the doctor said. Dipper is healthy, she is eating well, she has the right weight. Now we just have to take care of her so she can deliver healthy puppies."

Hayden lets out a tired sigh.

"Come on… Don't tell me you're not even a little excited to see new cute furry faces in one month," Natasha says, nudging him playfully.

Hayden looks back at his dog and a coy smile spreads on his lips. "Maybe… She will have the cutest puppies."

“Of course she will! Look at this adorable face!” Natasha blows an air kiss to the dog, who wags her trail frantically.

Just then, the door opens. "We're ready to take Dipper for the ultrasound and hear some heartbeats. Will you help me take her to the other room, Mr. Young?" The vet looks at Hayden expectantly.

"Yes." With a resolute nod, he stands us, picks up Dipper and turns to Natasha. "See you in a few minutes."

Eight weeks later

"Oh my God! They're too cute!" Nadia squeals holding one of the five Aussie Collies near her face. "You are too cute! I just can't with you!"

"I can imagine how much trouble they get you, but oh man!" Steve beams petting another one of the puppies. "When did you say we can pick one?"

"Six weeks. They'll be bigger and more independent then. The change will be less hard for them," Hayden smiles idly scratching Dipper's fur.

"I always preferred cats, but Dipper definitely changed my mind about dogs," Sloane adds.

"Wait until you take one of Dipper's puppies home. Hamza will lose it," Natasha jokes.

"Oh, he already is. That's why Khaan and I didn't tell him the puppies have born. He'd want to go back home with one of them. And we're soooo not ready to have a puppy at home now," Sloane shakes her head frantically, making everyone laugh.

"So… Did you figure out who mated with Dipper?" Steve asks.

"Yep. It's our landlord's Australian Shepherd. He helped with some of the vet bills and will stay with one of the puppies too," Natasha explains.

"Oh, he's pretty! Nice catch, Dipper!" Nadia winks at the dog.

Everyone chuckles.

"Okay, I think it's time to let Dipper feed the puppies," Hayden announces as he stands up to give space for the tiny dogs to follow their mother to her bed.

"Aww… Hayden is a protective pet parent. That’s so cute!" Nadia praises as everyone leaves the spare room Dipper is with puppies.

"He seems pretty attached to them. Are you sure he's going to agree on giving the puppies away?" Sloane whispers.

"He was struggling. But I reminded him that we live in a small apartment and we can't have five mini Dippers growing as big as she is and making as much mess as she does," Natasha murmured.

"Good call," Sloane nods, suppressing a giggle.

Significant influence comes from Youtubers, Streamers and Podcasts that talk about the buyouts. This advertises a potential to make money of cards, consequently making other reserve list cards a target. My Relationship. I bought reserve list cards from the start of 2020 till the end of december. I’ve even bought some as late as March after the boom. I spent and traded about $9,200-$9,600 on MTG Reserve List Cards. I estimate that I’ve spent about 7,000 in Cash and the other $2200-$2,600 as trades. Todays market value’s my collection of reserve list cards at approx $14,351 USD or $20534.87 NZD. I plan on holding at least for another 5 years to gain a 100-200% increase. 2. Steam, Xbox, PS4-5, Nintendo online co-current online player bases explodes over lockdown. Reasons: > People are self-isolating at home, nothing to do, limited education. More inclined to get distracted by playing games to pass the time. > Game Publishers and other services promoting deals and sales for people to buy new games. Opportunity to make more from accessibility and user pool. > Sheep in the crowd are more likely to hop online to play with friends since social distancing is in place. Keeps people connected and sane. Boosts optimism and friendships. My Relationship. I was playing CSGO and other games over the course of lockdown. There was no certainty about Uni. No one knew what to do as Universities and Schools prepair and co-ordinate for online learning. I noticed more people on networks, servers and streaming services that connected people from playing games to a form of communicating media. Steam database suggests a large increase to co-current players playing CSGO, Dota and PUBG. 3. In home entertainment sales for consoles, desktop PC’s and TV systems increase in demand and price Reasons: > Again, people in lockdown, to busy themselves and pass the time, consumers will opt to a form of rewarding entertainment. > Prices for parts went out of stock. > Families with younger people are constantly bored and will bother parents as they work. > Limited supply of consoles released, as a result, high volume for buy orders. > Shares for streaming services like Netflix, Disney, Amazone Prime, HBO, Lightbox and Quickflix My Relationship. Parent’s used Netflix religiously, best way to kill a TV series was in Lockdown with all the free time on our hands. I personally sought to buy a custom pc, however there was no stock for the parts and second hand markets for parts was over valued. Bad time to buy unless you were a month out from the first lockdown. 4. Small and Large Buisnesses transition online for a click and collect or deliver service. Reasons: > Keep people with retail jobs busy and earning > Better making something than nothing, It effects the way buisnesses calculate their quarterly budgets. > Essential for small buisnesses to make ends meet. > Great for people who are stuck at home and need products to help with their day to day lives. People can have that accessibility. My Relationship. Working part-time for a retail store. In the first lock down, we were not working but the leadership team were apllying for the government buisness subsidy. We did not get it, so bunnings cut it’s losses by closing several stores that did not make much. For us, eventually all our services were online for customers to participate in click and collect. We never made the smae back on a normal day but at least it was something. 5. Essential goods become high demand and are bought out for price gouging. Reasons: > People will buy out common sanitary goods, masks, hand sanitiser, toiilet paper. > Buisnesses will start to limit purchases per person. > Smart individuals or teams will buy in bulk and then sell else where for a a 100-200% mark up. > Opportunity to try new recipes for fun or testing. My Relationship. Working in retail, the team is the highest priority to make sure we have enough essential sanitary goods. The rest we can sell at a limit. However during the first lockdown, we sold out and we caught people selling for a rediculous mark up just down the road or even outside the store. 6. Social media marketing increases sevenfold Reasons: > People are spending more time on their devices. > More exposure for online marketing and trade. > Most buisnessess can only operate online. My Relationship. Started to notice more adds on FB and Instagram with people pushing ideas or products from lockdown. Most servicess were pushing the click and collect service online so you could still recieve your goods face to face. 7. General population make large asset purchases within New Zealand instead of spending the money on travel and overseas spending. Reasons: > People are stuck inside NZ and can’t travel as freely as planned. > Funds saved will go towards other desired luxuries. > Shortage of cars and higher second hand market on trade me. My Realtionship Both parents bought new cars to replace old ones. Parents also planned trips to go down south. At the same time, prices were a premium and no sales of the sort, except for travel which was dying for people to spend money on their service to come and use. 8. Global Share Markets enter a 4-6 month depression at the height of the first and second lockdowns. Reasons: > Cashing out, flooding quanity buy orders. > No confidence in some brands and markets as COVID-19 ma > Cover living expenses, people have uncertainty if you don’t make as much as the average earner in NZ My Realtionship Following stocks and learning more about investing in them. This was a great time to invest, however, no one quite knew where the bottom was. 9. Government relief checks for Small and medium sized buisnesses. Reasons: > Keep people’s jobs alive > Keep confidence in the government. > Provide assistance for those who are suffering from hardships. My Relationship. Bunnings did apply for the stimulus relief fund over the first lockdown but was not successful to recieve the fund 10. Industries dependant on Travel, Immigration, Location based entertainment, forced to reduce workforce. Reasons: > No one can travel > No airflights, or travel into country unless you are a resident. My Relationship. I’ve met new people who have left the travel and travel entertainment industry as a consequence of covid. This has also shriveled up cost of running the buisnessess.
